The app is full of scammers. The professionals don't have licenses and the pictures and positive reviews posted are often fake. Be ware! Hired painters and they created such a mess that the house was worse than before they started.
I joined as a thumbtack Pro almost 10 years ago with my personal training business and for several years it was an unbelievably great platform for my business, quality leads, good clients, and an unbelievable ROI. I referred many other Pros to the platform as well. That being said the last 2 years it is a completely different company and genuinely feels like a complete scam. I went from converting almost 95% of leads to clients to literally less than 3% in the last 2 years. I've changed nothing with my business and the only thing that's changed is there unbelievable price increase and what feels like fake leads to generate their company money. For anyone looking to sign up for thumbtack now I would highly recommend you run in the other direction, they used to be great for me but but since 2021 or so they have cost me way more money than I have made from them and I do believe a class action suit might be on the horizon for this company.
Garbage leads. Pay upfront and can't get any money back. Support sucks. 2+ week response time. They imported my google reviews, but only 10. I have 200+ reviews with a 4.65 rating on google. Now I start out on thumbtack with a very poor rating as they pulled most of the 10 from the 1 user ratings. Leads are garbage. I thought Angi leads were bad, try these guys when you feel like donating money. Really wished I would have googled them before I tried them out. Out $400 and can't get it back!
A bunch of thieves stealing your money by fake leads. I received many lead for my security guard business. I intentionally give them a price bellow market value, offered discounts and additional services but still I didn't get the job. They send you fake leads and pocket your money. Stay away- go Facebook.
Being a professional on Thumbtack is very difficult. You are totally at liberty of reviews which gives customers control to dictate how you do business regardless of your legal rights you have running your business. There should be a process that if you reimburse a company or show evidence of resolution the review should be removed if documentation can be submitted. I was extorted by a customer as well. Still stuck with a bad review.
The contractors on this site have no idea what they are doing. One I hired Left 4 out of six rooms of my home in absolute mess. Thumbtack has washed their hands of it. They're guarantees are fraudulent at best. $14,000 worth of damage to my home and none of it was covered.
Hi Darlene, thank you for sharing feedback with our team. We were able to locate your open case with our Trust and Safety Team, and it appears you're still working with our team, and they're awaiting further documentation to determine your eligibility for reimbursement through the Guarantee. Please respond directly to their most recent email, on September 19th, with any documentation or questions you might have.
I called them to schedule an appointment and they walked me through how to give ot over the phone
I am never going to call anyone else to service my appliances. Theses guys ate number one in my book. I will tell all my friends and family about them. If you need something worked on definitely give A-Tech Repair Inc. a call.
It's great to hear you hired an excellent pro! Be sure to review this pro on Thumbtack too: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/review-a-pro. We look forward to helping you with your next project.
Pepe of Ultimate Garage Doors *******269) came out this afternoon to asses the problem with my garage door. What I thought was going to entail a very expensive job, was a matter of making a few adjustments and proper lubrication. He explained everything that needed to be addressed, compared ti another company that wanted to replace the motor! I would highly recommend.
Be careful with Thumbtack. They don't verify license status. I hired a plumber on their site and found out he was unlicensed which caused me a lot of hassle with trying to get a permit for my project. It was a hard lesson learned, but it looks like any old Joe can get on Thumbtack and start advertising services.
I contacted Thumbtack after I was cheated by an unlicensed contractor who destroyed my tub and did a horrible job painting my kitchen cupboards. I contacted them and their response was, they ran a back ground check and it came up ok, so he stays on the site. I just learned that on all these kinds of sites, the workers pay to be on it and can pay to have bad reviews removed. Never use this site!
I have been on thumbtack for two years and only got two jobs. The vast majority were scams. Their business model is set up for you to fail. You pay thousands of dollars for credits for people who are scam artists, not looking to hire or unresponsive so you spend tons of money on fake leads.
Those who claim they "hire" you are given only a very short time to review and many of those I dealt with (tax preparation issues) come in for a free consultation and never really hire you at all. No money is paid to the pro! Especially when I tell them that there is nothing they can do about their IRS tax problem except make arrangements to pay it. I then get a bad review. For not charging them and for telling them the truth. Review process is one sided and if people don't pay you when truly hiring you there is no way to let the community know they did not pay you. I would not waste my money with this company!
I tried this service for 6-months as a pro and I routinely got bogus leads that went nowhere!
The leads were expensive and often the customers don't respond at all when you respond with a yes I'm available.
It's one thing to bid on a job and not get it, it's another to get zero response from a customer after an inquiry of your business.
Customer support was very non helpful and refuses to even credit your account for bogus customer leads! Very disappointing experience!
From good to worst lead generators.
Thumbtack struggled to advertise on CNN and other known TV Station. In other to be able to compete with other lead company, they have to change their lead pricing and makes it so bad that, a project such as " I need a TV installation" will be sent to at least 15 Pros. Is TV installation a rocket science?
The fact and truth is that, they needed to compete and grow their business via adverts but at the detriment of their Pros.
Yet, with their bad and greedy services, they are still looking for more Pros and wanted Pros to refer another pro to get free credit. A reasonable Pro should not in any way refer Pros to thumbtack. It is a business killer.
Just less than 2 years with thumbtack we have spent most of our profit from other businesses on their shady baits.
Very Inconsistent and hidden pricing.
Please Pro. Do Not Waste your Money! Do not refer pro.
Money Hunger!
As a business owner who was using thumbtack beware. They have doubled their prices for the contractors. We pay a lead fee when a customer is interested in our services. If you customers are not getting people contacting you I would do what you can to find that contractor through google Facebook whatever means necessary. I can not afford the prices they charge so unfortunately customers are missing out. It's sad but those are the facts and they do not want to do anything about it. So to the customers please try to find people you are interested in through Facebook the web instagram however you can find them!
I'm also a Pro on Thumbtack been with them going on six years. When I first started pricing was reasonable. They would sell you a pack of credits and show how many you need to send a estimate. Credits 1.67 each. Then they went on and change from credits to dollars they would even show you how many you need. Estimate 12 credits = 20.04. They don't do that any more. When they change to what their doing know, I called to get a ball park pricing. The person I spoke with could not give me a figure. He said it all depends on the job size. Makes no since. And still no figure. I sent a estimate that use to be 20.04 I just checked my payment 75.00 dollars. That is F**K UP Talk about Price Gouging Thumbtack is getting away with it.
I paid nearly $100 and have sent out over 10 quotes and missed out on countless more by seconds. Thumbtack has a lot of potential but all you have to be good at is quick to respond to a request. People that are hiring are not always getting quality, they're getting the 5 quickest quotes. Very frustrating when you have to join the race and are limited to how much you write in your template. Also, people that are looking to hire are getting the cheapest labor or skilled person out there so if you're a professional this drives your product or service down just to compete with the other quick respondent. Don't understand why a lot of the requests ask for so many credits and others with the same type of job are at a third or quarter of the credits. If they had a deal that keeps you around until your first hire then that would have more incentive to stay with thumbtack but this system isn't in the providers favor.
We found Continental Custom Iron on Thumbtack. The guys came up with the perfect design for a railing along the walkway as well as a railing for our swimming pool based on our somewhat sketchy ideas. They were quick, efficient and right on time. Their estimate was extremely reasonable and we could not be happier. I would use them again for any future needs.
This company has no idea what its doing and if you have a problem, forget it. The answer is NO.
They allow Thumbtack members to leave "anonymous" reviews about your company. Which seems fine at first glance, until you realize that if the review has been made in error or is just completely unfounded or false there is no way for you to verify the if it was even someone you did work for. When you request additional information to prove the validity of the review or the claims being made by the reviewer, forget it, they won't even tell you if the reviewer marked you as hired.
My company has purchased over 100 leads from Thumbtack and we still don't have a single job from them. When you compare that to the amount of business we get from Angie's List, Yelp or Google. There is no reason to do business with Thumbtack.
Don't try and get your money back. Once you buy those credits that money is gone and they wont let it go for anything.
If you look at the leads in thumbtack you can see how many pros have responded to lead and how many pros have been reached by customer. Either way thumbtack collecting money from all those contacts om same lead multiple times i have even seen leads with 7 to 8 contacts.
The only person making money here is thumbtack and customers getting free information.
This company is a scam and dose not do business the honest way or fair way.
There is no limited number of leads to reach out by a customer. There is no restrictions. Bark is same too
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback, we're always working on improving. We believe it's important that customers have the opportunity to contact a few different pros, to find the one best suited for their project. While we understand that means not all leads will always result in a hire, we have resources available to help pros build a successful profile and gain a competitive edge, to win more jobs. You're always welcome to reach out to our team if you're interested in updating your profile or need success tips for the platform.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
