My relationship with Squarespace.com began when Squarespace acquired Google's domain business. NOTHING has worked as it should since Squarespace took over: Squarespace consistently sends bad and poor information about when fees are due and domain renewal dates. Squarespace's auto-renew feature consistently fails to auto-renew (we then get several urgent warnings from Squarespace that domains will be lost because we haven't timely paid). Employee time spent troubleshooting with Square-space customer service was a waste (and an unnecessary, unwelcome expense for my small women-owned business): the issue(s) persists. We are manually monitoring, managing, investigating, troubleshooting and resolving our own issues with Squarespace domains. (Squarespace gets the SAME fee(s) we paid Google, so we have the right to expect the service to be the same, and to not damage or harm our business—which it has). Ultimately, my business will move our assets from Squarespace. One thing we know for sure: the "experts" and individuals who pushed Squarespace on the public lied. My small consolation is that this portion of our business is still considered small, so we are not losing millions of dollars due to the failures and bad service of Squarespace. (This part of our business was scheduled to scale from September 2024, so the delay in having to move to a new provider and the process to vet and approve a company—to protect our brand and reputation—is today costing us client business and earnings. I guess THIS is how the U.S. government will justify its claim that the U.S. economy is great: bad companies slash services to save on employee pay, while charging or taking the SAME fees. This is NOT at all an acceptable way for ANY reputable entity to do business in ANY country, and especially NOT in the United States—where generations of my family were born, raised, and do business or work.) I do NOT recommend Squarespace products or services to anyone.

My domain worked fine for years at Google Domains, but got auto-transferred to Squarespace due to Google Domains shutting down. As soon as this transfer happened, DNS stopped resolving to my domain and my website became completely unavailable. Squarespace support sent me a canned response saying not to worry and it should be resolved in 5-7 days. We're talking about a production site here. Squarespace doesn't care. Squarespace may be good for a personal site that you are fine with being inaccessible, but avoid if you actually use your site for business or anything important.

I heard rumors about this web design company and I'm sorry to say that it a scam even though I don't think it right for squarespace should charge money after all the world is in danger of World war three. It would be good idea to do a free plan like other websites

It's an amazing resource for creating all sorts of websites and even your own blog spaces using templates.
The results you can achieve with Squarespace are fantastic. They provide you with the in-depth analytics too so that you know where to tweak to make your website work more efficiently.

Fist of the number you call tells you to talk with them on the computer. To top things off you don't even know who is on the other end. The communication with em them are very poor. They have held on to my refund over three months and still have not received it. This company should be out of business

We have always purchased domains through Google Domains until Square Space bought that business. So, we purchased two domains via Square Space with WHOIS and Information set to "private." After the purchase and within two hours, the phone calls started to pour into my phone...15 in one day with "website Designers" referencing one of the domains I just purchased. Do Not trust this company unless you purchase the domains from a third party. So disappointing.

Cool for the price
July 9, 2019

SquareSpace offers one the ability to make a website with the purpose of selling a good or product to customers. As opposed to other sites, SquareSpace is a little tricky to navigate. Price for SquareSpace services are higher than competition such as Weebly. However, SquareSpace offers a lot more features than most of the competition.

I found it to be terribly difficult to use when I tried it a little over a year ago -- prohibitively so. I have a friend who uses it, so I intended to do so, but even the simplest things were terribly difficult. Pretty templates, but not worth the effort.

I don't have a problem with these guys, really; I've been looking around to create a website for audio book publishing, but this (strange) 300 mb limit makes it impossible. This site inculdes audio book publishing, so I don't understand why they would include a template for it. I have two audio books and both are nearly 1 gig.

I say I don't have a problem with this site, but, I never actually used their site, because I can't do anything. Other creator website don't even have an audio book template. What's even more strange is, a YouTube guy receommended this site.

Lacking In Features
July 20, 2021

Squarespace is a pretty good website builder for an average user. However, it lacks in features. It's simple to get started and the learning curve is moderate. I recommend Squarespace for portfolios and vCards only. The features and flexibility for using Squarespace for an eCommerce site is not great. Overall, the website builder is good.

Don't do it!
June 10, 2024

Don't do it!

I don't normally write these kind of things on the Internet, but I think it's important that a warning be given to anybody considering Squarespace as their provider.
Squarespace is set up for people that have no idea what they're getting into. When we started with our website that was us. As we grew and learned more, we found a number of limitations and what you can do with their platform.
The biggest issue is once you are on their platform you're totally locked in. Due to the other issues that are already been talked about here with the almost total lack of support and the way the process for moving your domain Is set up, it either takes a very long time to get out or you just have to give up and start over again.
They make it very attractive to get in and get started. The platform is easy to use, which is attractive. But going for easy in the short term will limit you almost entirely in the long run. Take the time to learn a real web platform and start simple. You won't regret that decision. I've regretted the decision about Spacespace for over six months now. It took that long to get out of them.
Don't do it!

BEWARE
December 9, 2015

These guys host beautiful glossy web sites, but the back door is not so beautiful. NO phone support & lots of software protocol & operational issues. You can lose your on-line presence due to some of these issues & little warning or response. SEO Metric problems for sure. Don't e in a real hurry to get a response or attempt to use their chat... never available.

Oh my god YES!

Oh my god YES! This company gets it. They've created an incredibly easy way to make a website for cheap! Getting a domain and a year of service is about 96 dollars. Amazing deal, amazing service, amazing product.

Thank you Squarespace
March 16, 2015

Squarespace has saved us thousands in merchant fees (along with stripe) plus thousands in admin bills from web developers, plus months in development time. I really really wish I knew about this company before we spend so much money on rubbish sites. I cannot recommend them higher.
My only criticism is that there are a few customisable things that are tricky and not included - rolling payments, popups, affiliate coding etc, but the pros are significantly higher than any negative I could think of.

Their so called award winning customer service is major BS and going downhill fast. Ive had them for 2 years now- the lady who built my site liked them. Recently I needed help with website billing and Domains because I am moving and changed my primary URL, wanting to cancel the other and all I could get was people emailing me links from India or some other country- who cares where they were. Point is they are NOT HELPFUL! You have to do it all yourself and there is NO HELP>

I've been with Squarespace since they were little more than a small start-up company. Yes, as other reviewers have pointed out, they are a bit pricey compared to other web builder/hosting companies, and their design tools do take some time to get used to, but their templates are very professional looking, and there are some really great looking websites on Squarespace. But the main reason I rate them 5 stars is their reliability and superb customer service. They helped me last year to transition from Squarespace 5 (the old platform) to Squarespace 7 (the current platform) most efficiently and with no downtime. Their web-building software is not for dummies like Weebly (I don't mean that as an insult because I also use Weebly for a very simple site that I have), but Squarespace has some superb design features once you get into it. For those who say it's difficult or confusing, I would guess they are not reading the tutorials that are on the Squarespace website. Once you've taken the time to go through those, it's nowhere near as difficult as it might first appear. I also use the Wix website builder. For a premium website, I wouldn't go past Squarespace. For a budget website, Weebly is fine. Wix is somewhere in the middle.

I've designed a number of websites on a number of platforms, and Squarespace is my favourite by far. It does take time to get used to their design tools, but once you do it's well worth it and the results are stunning websites. For me it's all about the user experience when they visit my site, and simple navigation, compelling aesthetics and clear structure are paramount. Highly recommended.

Awful experience. A SCAM
December 31, 2021

I don't recommend using this platform at all. I was recommended by someone who told me Squarespace had free options for websites. When I created an account, I had access to all of the templates. Naturally, I thought if it was letting me use them, it was free. Since I hadn't purchased any type of subscription. I then spent FIVE HOURS building my website. After running into multiple code errors that not even my web design friend could figure out, and struggling with the tools which were difficult to make sense of, I finally decided to publish my website. Still thinking it was free, I purchased a domain but found that my website was still not accessible. It took another 30 minutes to find how to publicize my website, only to discover that I need to pay $16 monthly to publish. Furthermore, when I looked into canceling that subscription, the cancellation takes down my website immediately, without even giving me the remainder of the month which I paid for. I feel like I was scammed of my money and hard work. Horrible experience.
