I am distraught, as recently I realised I have been charged by Skillshare since 2018 (I have not used the site at all). Yes, it was my fault for not cancelling the Premium subscription in 2018, but my gripe is that I was not sent ONE email about this. Not ONE email with a bill. I don't have access to that credit card, so the only way I could see I was being billed was by logging into the site, looking at settings, clicking on membership and seeing I had a premium account. To me it seems like they were hiding the fact that I was being billed to decrease the chance of me cancelling the subscription. I am a NZ student, I don't have the money to pay for Skillshare and honestly, this is the most upsetting thing that has happened this year (and this has been a horrible year to begin with).
I just got charger $99 (like 90% of people here in the comments), without any notice... I didn't remember to cancel it because I almost didn't visit the site at some point, I just really didn't expect they would charge without telling me anything...
I'm a Brazillian, so I'll be charger 4x the original price in Reais.
I really need a refund, please, otherwise I'm gonna be in serious trouble!
Teachers beware! Read about my experience before using this platform...
After gaining over 200 followers, creating 29 hours worth of content in 8 classes, bringing in at
Least 5-10 referred users, engaging the community, encouraging other users, speaking positively about
Skillshare to people in my learning network, creating projects for all my classes and other classes,
Being one of the very few people actually producing iPad based music production classes - one day,
Without warning they removed all of my classes. Some new 'Guidelines' had been adopted and my classes
Did not meet them.
Initially, it was hard to get specific reasons. Then they provided the reasons - all of which I cited
As incorrect and gave evidence why. They were simply untrue. But I continued to be reasonable and
Prove their arguments to be inapplicable, unfair, or plain wrong. I am happy to supply all my evidence to anyone who would like it. So beware of this platform - on the surface, it looks sweet and a lot of stuff in there is great. But it's not run by professionals.
The courses are taught in a friendly manner by people that really know their stuff. I started in IT 14 months ago and have learned SO much! I did CompTIA A+ primarily on SkillShare and passed within my first year because there is so much material, including screenshots, in-app video capture and so on.
I signed up for a trial and then canceled and removed my credit card. When I checked my credit card a few months later, I was charged for not reason for an entire year of Skillshare Premium. I asked for a refund and they said no, because of their 7d refund policy. It's all a big scam. Don't even try to create an account, you'll get charged for nothing and the quality is even below Youtube tutorials.
Skillshare is being used to provide opportunities to our engineers to explore new skills, enhance existing skills, or fulfill skills gaps. Skillshare provides a wide range of courses that can be viewed online or on mobile. We find that the selfdirected pace of Skillshare fulfills the needs of most of our engineers, eliminating much of the need for traditional training.
This site scammed $120 out of me. Much like other reviews I signed up for a FREE trial and ended up canceling it a few days in. I got confirmation that I cancelled and lost access to the content. Then out the blue, almost a month later, Ive been charged over a hundred dollars. Sure enough I rechecked the website and I had been regiven access to theyre classes. Ive jumped through countless hoops about getting my money refunded and still have heard nothing. Needless to say I havent used it and I warn anyone from even looking at this company.
I canceled my Skillshare subscription on iOS in 2021. Since then, I have been billed yearly. I never got a renewal email from Skillshare. I recently saw the renewal notification from Paypal. The payment wasn't visible under the "Active Payments" view there, so I couldn't cancel it. The "Memberships & Payments" tab on the Skillshare website is completely blank. I cannot see previous payments or cancel the subscription (again). I reached out to Skillshare a few days before the subscription was to be renewed and asked to cancel the subscription and process a refund for previous years. They did not acknowledge that I requested the cancellation. Instead, they said that they could provide a 50% refund for the previous year, which they still have not done. Nor did they cancel my subscription before it was renewed again. Once the renewal was processed, it finally showed up in Paypal, so I canceled it there and sent the transaction to the dispute center. I then got an email from Skillshare saying that subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled and that the subscription has been since 2020. No kidding! They didn't mention canceling my subscription or the refund.
I canceled the free trial as soon as I subscribed to it, I was still charged the premium membership. No way to contact them, they ask to go through hoops to get a refund. They know it is scammy, they turn a profit because of it, I hope this will change.
When I signed up for the free membership I was of course trying it out with the 2 months, I signed up and received a date that I would be charged on, great, planning money whoo. I have been billed 6 days early, and it is taken my account down to near empty because they charged me early. They do not have a customer service number, just an email refund request that can take up to 3 business days to just contact me, so I am stuck in the $#*!ter for several days because they charged me early. I am fully canceling, I didn't hate their product, just the billing factor, I actually enjoyed the website but will no longer be willing to use it because of this MAJOR issue.
I was about to register on that webpage, but then I decided to look if it was a scam or not. Thanks to all these reviews I decided to better not do it and stay away from Skillshare the most I can. Thank you guys, you saved a soul. And remember that the moral of the story is to look on google if a webpage is a scam, ALWAYS.
I use it for my job to learn new skills like advanced Excel skills,
SharePoint, AEM, Visio, JIRA, etc. I look there before anywhere else.
I'm glad that I bought membership of SkillShare.
Love the practice exercises. It clears explanations with examples.
Thoughtful progression. I can start where I left off is best part :D
I took the sample free trial Skillshare.com and was able to create proper structure and syntax in programming HTML and CSS. It was almost the end of my free trial but I wanted more so I went and got their membership & now learnt too much about programming
I like that I find a variety of courses that have helped me a lot in my
Personal and professional growth, I consider that the staff that
Teaches them is 100% trained, has given me a free month to prove
The service.
I have had many benefits, since from the comfort of my home I can
Get all kinds of online courses, courses are available for the
Improvement of very good office techniques.
Undoubtedly Skillshare helped me to believe and trust more in my
Potential as a teacher, and know that I am an instrument to change
Societies.
First of all, please scroll down and note that the positive reviews are all from the same date, at least on the first page (5/28). HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS and if anyone working for Skillshare is behind this, this is fraud.
I was a monthly pro member paying about $15/month. A week after paying for a month, I woke up to an email thanking me for paying $99 for an annual subscription! I demanded my money to be refunded as I absolutely DID NOT switch to annual. And even if I did, why would they charge the full $99 after taking $15 the previous week!?
They have fraudulent billing practices and this is clear from reading the countless negative reviews all over the internet. And I don't mean the people who were using a free trial and forgot to cancel and are angry. NO. I mean people who had premium monthly subscriptions and were switched to annual without their consent.
They did refund me but had the NERVE to say it looks like I switched over to annual. Seriously? In my sleep?! And NO my account was not hacked into.
Also, it seems recently they've been mass deleting courses off of their platform. It's like they don't want a good reputation. This all seems worthy of a class action lawsuit.
As the majority of reviews point out, they take money out of your account without warning and once they have it they toss you aside so they can work on taking other peoples money. They took 96 euro out of my account and havent heard back about it since, Im writing it off because it doesnt seem like they will ever give it back, my hard earned money that is, that these entitled pricks seem to think they can go and swipe out from under my eyes.
Great business idea but a company run by scumbags is not sustainable, thanks to websites like this. DO NOT WORK WITH SKILLSHARE.
Udemy is a fantastic website I would highly recommend, great service and good ethics, unlike these pri**s.
EDIT: Just received my refund and they offored a promotional discount for a new subscription. Still, not ok to take 100 euro out of my account, id assumed it was going to be ten euro a month after the trial as the offer stated. Im paying rent late because of this, thankfully my landlords alright with that.
Being the organized person I am, I made sure to cancel my subscription before my free trial ended. However, I was shocked to discover that even upon canceling it early on, Skillshare STILL charged my credit card for the yearly membership. I would've understood if I had forgotten to cancel or something along those lines, but it absolutely shocks and disgusts me that they still charged my credit card after I canceled my account. I actually really loved the courses that Skillshare offers, but what they did was unacceptable and I do not think I can happily use their services any longer. I have already deactivated my account while waiting to sort out this mess, hopefully with a Skillshare representative.
Ease of use. Up-skill your knowledge to the fullest by using this tool/platform.
