Shutterfly's reputation reflects a mix of strong product quality and significant customer service challenges. Many users appreciate the quality of photo books and personalized items, often highlighting the durability of products. However, recurring complaints about service delays, order inaccuracies, and inadequate customer support overshadow these positives. Customers frequently report issues with refunds, communication breakdowns, and technical difficulties on the platform. This blend of satisfaction with product quality and frustration over service reliability suggests a need for Shutterfly to enhance its customer service approach to improve overall customer experience and retention.

I have been using Shutterfly for years. I actually store all of my photos on their site. This year, this holiday season as been a horrible experience with them. I ordered my Christmas photo cards before Thanksgiving and was told they would be delievered by 11/30. Just what, they did not show. When I called, I spoke to some reps in a foreign office who basically told me that there was nothing they could do and that they were too busy to worry about customers receiving their orders. I finally spoke to a Customer Service rep named Elana - who promised me my cards would be printed and would be expedited and I should have them by 12/11. NO Show again. PLUS other photos prints I ordered were supposedly delivered to my cities post office on 12/7 and still NO SHOW. They can't fulfill their obligations or promises... Too big for the level of service they provide. Avoid them like the plague this holiday season and find another vendor.
I ordered a picture calendar from Shutterfly. The calendar came and most of the pictures were sideways. I called to have it redone. They told me they would give me free shipping as if they were doing me a favor. I get the second calendar and most pictures had the heads cut off. This is a company that specializes in pictures. How hard can it be to make a calendar? This is the third time I have gotten a calendar that is wrong. They wanted to give me an $8.00 refund for a $25 calendar. I'm done.
Their app continually times you out without saving your work, so you have to redo what you were working on. Once you finally get what you want, and think the order is done, their techs feel the need to change it and get it re-approved by you, causing the order to be delayed. Estimated arrival dates seem to have a range of +/- 20 days. Recommend ordering Christmas cards before Halloween if you want them on time.
They sent me a card missing pictures. They stated it didn't save the pictures in their system and I could purchase new cards at full price to resolve the issue.
I used Shutterfly because of a Groupon I bought. While making a calendar, my daughter started crying so I made her a bottle. By the time I was done, the app complete erased all the progress I had made. I had to add all the images to the calendar all over again. It took so many hours to make two calendars. The app is awful because if you stop working, it removes all your work. It happened twice for me.
Also, 4x4 photos are "free" but shipping costs around $7. That's approximately 28 cents for a photo when you can buy photos off Amazon for 15 cents... Amazon is the way to go. I doubt I'll ever use Shutterfly again
It's been over a month now since my order was expected to be delivered. This is a Christmas gift and now I probably won't receive it in time to give to it's recipient. Your customer service is impossible to get a hold of. There's no pace to send an email, your chat service is always offline and by phone the wait times are absurd. This is the most horrible experience I have ever had with a business. PLEASE provide an update on my order asap!
What's the point if my Christmas cards don't get here in time to mail? I have never had to wait this long for cards. In fact, I thought I was really on it this year. Took our family picture on Nov. 17th, ordered it on Nov. 19th. It is December 9th and they are still not here. Once they do arrive, I still have to label and mail them. Their big mistake is that they are using the US Postal Service. I have no idea why they don't use UPS.
Did not receive item in time for event. Shutterfly said they didn't understand why the shipping mistake happened. Would not send replacement. Bottom line, don't pay for expedited since they don't honor it
This website is horrible. Once you put stuff in your cart, you cannot see it again and remove or edit your cart. You can get no customer help. They say you can chat when you call on the phone. Today the wait time was 17 minutes and the chat icon on the website says chat offline (which it has said for the past three days). I needed my prints, so I went ahead and just ordered because I am so frustrated with trying to get what I really want. I feel like I got totally ripped off. I will never use this service again.
Used Shutterfly for many years and always liked their work. I have a habit of checking the cart with them, because they will say something is on sale and the cart says otherwise. Just started working on an order and found the Covid surcharge. You will not see this until check out! It's not much money, but the principle of it knowing that big business received government funding due to Covid, but workers don't see benefits from it. Shutterfly's explanation is like they are the only ones suffering from it. I canceled my order. I am not paying them a dime due to Covid!
If you haven't seen Shutterfly's new 6x6 Instant Book, you should check it out! I give it a 10 out of 10 Stars!
- It was easy to create
- Great quality! Thick pages, vibrant ink, hard cover.
- Fantastic price point at $9.99 each (20 pages)
- Fast delivery. It's the Christmas Season and I received it in less than a week!
- I'll be creating many many more of these great little books
Thank you Shutterfly for creating a product I love!
I went on a bit of a printing kick for the holidays. A friend mentioned shtterlie. All I can say for sure is their "free" or discount items come with absurd shipping, negating the promotion, and the items are always far less that described by way of quality and quantification.
The Christmas photo cards I ordered came out very well. But beware about the envelopes--- they had my return address on them but almost all of them were smudged. Very few of the envelopes sealed, despite trying to seal them and then put a heavy weight on them. I ended up having to use scotch tape which looked horrible.
Plus they sell you a liner which they don't put in, you have to put it in and seal it-- and when I asked customer service what to do with them he said,"Put it on the side?" You can't reach customer service by email and customer service by telephone was very unhelpful.
I've been delighted with everything I've ordered from Shutterfly. The latest order was a set of 4 placemats -- each with a different image. I don't use them as placemats, though they'd be fine for that. Instead, I use them as work surfaces -- beautiful images, easy to wipe off and use again. They're very well made -- plastic covering and big enough for a 300 piece puzzle that I can cover with a 2nd mat or for a beading project. I love having beautiful work surfaces that I can clean and put away when I'm done.
Never shipped my item and I had to make multiple inquiries about my item. I had to ask multiple time to get a refund. So I canceled the item and will never use them again. Total trash
I ordered one 8x10 with an Estimated Delivery date of Nov 19. It's Dec. 1 and the only status that Shutterfly shows is "Shipped". They also have NO customer service online. The Customer Service link merely points you to a FAQ, with no way to contact customer service other than telephone! How 1990! Terrible company. Stay away!
The price advertised for is generally not the price you'll be paying. Then they don't let you combine discounts like 40%off a regular item and free shipping when you reach a certain price. Total scam.
My wife made me a photo album for my birthday. It's been 5 months and counting. Avoid this company!
I've ordered two other books 3 and 4 years ago, great quality. This time, for $60.00 and 21 pages, the binding is very flimsy, the pages aren't well- secured, and the cover is an odd plastic that's not well attached to the book itself. I paid 13 dollars extra for'enhanced color', didn't see a difference. And, some of the photos are slightly tilted, not set straight on the page. The other Shutterfly books I've made were far better all the way around.
This is the second time I've placed an order through Shutterfly for a Christmas present. This time I ordered the gift three months in advance because LAST year when I ordered from them it took more than a month to get my package and I wasn't able to give it as a gift because it arrived AFTER Christmas.:(
This time it has been six weeks and I am STILL waiting on one of my items to be delivered. I cannot tell if it is disorganization on Shutterfly's part or if it is USPS, which I suspect it may be, but as long as they keep going through USPS I am NEVER ordering from them again. It's a nightmare. I'm going to just go ahead and buy my mom another gift because I don't know if this one will materialize by Christmas.
Mpix has much better quality anyway, so if you are ordering anything that has pictures that have been through post processing they are a much better bet. They're selection of personalized products is just a lot more limited.
