It was horrible experience we got last weekend 1/6/2019. Our two dogs were sent to Rover.com dog sitter home. But one of our dogs Roxy ran away from her back yard and was hit by unknown car not far away from her house. We found Roxy body in the intersection 83 and northfield Dr. Our whole family are really sad. We post this message because we want to share our experience with other people who send the dogs to Rover.com
We were working with a local pet sitter, paid up front as required and the person flaked the day before she committed to take care of our dogs. Apparently, any chump can list themselves as a pet sitter on this site.
Hamilton boarding facility, not legal, under investigation by PAWS, 2 dogs died under her care and likely many more. Tried to reach out to Rover and can't email or speak directly. AI answers the chat only. No idea what the screening process is to be allowed to post a business with them. Use with caution. Go see the facilities to confirm they are legit.
They are a complete scam! I applied to be a sitter, and as soon as I created an account and added my bank information, they deducted $49 without my consent. When I called to ask why, they claimed it was an application review fee—something I never agreed to. I requested to cancel my account and get a refund, but they put me on hold forever. Their customer service is terrible, with representatives who barely speak English. No wonder their review is 1.3 on Google. Avoid Rover.com!
I am writing this after the pet-sitter lost my cat. Rover.com is an absolutely irresponsible, unethical platform that does not verify anything the people advertising on its platform claim. It is no better than walking up to a random stranger on the street and giving them your pet to watch. Nothing stated on the website is verifiable or valid. Further they tell you, they assume no responsibility for your pet or anything that happens as a result of using their service. The sitter who lost my cat is still on the platform, advertising her services, no resource. I have not been refunded for the cost if the sitting service nor for the full cost of vet care as a result of the sitter losing my cat. Luckily, with no help from the sitter or Rover.com, I found my cat after he was lost over 24 hours. They endanger the safety of your pet. Learn from my mistake!
First time using Rover. Little did I know last time I would see my adorable companion! Within 3 hours of the reservation, I get a call my baby was hit by a car. Rushed to the ER only to be told my angel Expired. You cannot imagine how heartbroken and devastated I felt. Mourning! Last time I see him. 😭 😭
We used Rover.com for the first time and it will be the last. We landed from our flight and received several messages from our Rover provider that while she was at our home our patio door glass shattered. We reported it to Rover when we got home and filed a report. Claim denied 3 times by Rover to cover the cost of the damages. DO NOT USE ROVER.COM! $800 in repairs we are stuck with!
I hired a Rover sitter for my house and dogs for a weekend. They trashed my home, causing damage and hours of cleaning. I reported it to Rover and filled out all of the required paperwork, nothing was done. Not even a phone call to me. Hire Rover at your OWN RISK! I will never allow someone in my home from any service again. Towels ruined, dishes broken, dishwasher broken, hours of cleaning!
This happened in the last few days and the video has been posted on Instagram and Facebook of a rover.com pet sitter named McKenna slamming a puppy to the ground. Caught on the owners camera Her boyfriends name is Ryan Rose and he stated they had been at the beach all day and we're sunburned and tired.
This was a terrible experience. I had 2 other 'iffy' experiences with other Rover sitters
My animals were distressed.
I explained to Rover in multiple emails to which they did not respond, the details of how i found my animals and my home. I also explained that i didn't want to leave a bad review for fear of retaliation and that Rover should interview other customers especially those that don't leave reviews.
I asked Rover several times using their directed emails *******@rover.com and *******@rover.com to learn how to leave a formal complaint describing what happened, I can't bear others' pets being vulnerable to this.
I don't believe Rover vets their sitters well and I also don't believe they have good control over their review system.
Thank goodness my time away was brief.
Just know that if your pet is injured during a pet sitting, walking,et cetera ROVer WILL NOT PAY as they advertise? Just had a dog sitter watch my small dog for thirty minutes And as a result of an accident, his only good eye was damaged.
I don't believe it really was the sitter's fault, however.
She indicated to me that she would report the incident to rover all within the 48 hour.they require. And I had over $900 in vet bills.
Yet rover refused to pay one dime because I did not contact them. They were given all receipts. Doctors notes everything they asked for promptly.
The corporate machine is working well for them.
I hired a Rover sitter to board my two small dogs for one night due to an event I worked that required a 16 hour day. When I picked up my dogs the next morning at our previously scheduled time, my "sitter" was passed out on her couch. I found out my dogs had not been walked yet nor my diabetic dog fed or given his insulin shot (which instructions were for an 8 am feeding/medicine). Her drunk boyfriend/husband tried to give me a bag of fast food condiments saying it was my dog's supplies. I found my 6-pound Maltese cowering under an end table visibly shaking and terrified. The funniest/worst part of this is, Rover is 'still deciding' if I should receive a refund. Ultimately, I'm lucky as my dogs came home alive.
Garbage - I hate place I took my dogs
But had little choice because as I arrived and saw the place i was already on my way to beach with family. I trusted the over 100 five star reviews. Now one dog infection that cost me $500 more than the $600 the service cost. Also just got a note FROM the person on Rover saying they are getting evicted due to home zoning law restrictions and number of pets allowed. When I look at date Of eviction it's before I dropped the dogs! Nice they turned their house into a place for dogs but it's a mess and dogs running amuck. Looks like third world country and too many dogs running around for them to control. I won't go back and I won't use rover be user they clearly are not controlling quality and their rating system is suspect.
In four days, the sitter I found through Rover.com lost our dog twice, forgot where his food was, fed him table scraps (though told not to), and left our house a mess. Later, after he got fired by Rover.com, he sued us.
When I contacted them for help, Rover's lawyers refused to cooperate or give us any information on the guy, even ignoring a subpoena. They claimed "confidentiality" and that their sitters were "independent contractors." On their website, they claim to run background checks on their sitters, yet they didn't even know his true name or check his ID or SS#.
Do not trust this irresponsible company with your pets or your keys.
I probably should have read the reviews before using the services of Rover.com. Their website claims 24 hour support if any issues come up. That is simply not true. They have an automated system that loops you back around with automated responses. I had to wait more than 20 hours for an email response that did not even get my issue correct. The pet sitter I hired through their site cancelled on short notice and I was left up in the air with NO sitter. Their customer service could not have cared less. No referrals to back up options, no empathy for me or my pet, and no direct human contact. Only vague emails directing me to use their website. This company does not give a $#*! about the people or animals they claim to care so much about. Simply put, way too many other options out there to put your pet's health and safety into Rovers hands. Please do not utilize any of their misrepresented services.
I have used Rover one time last June and again recently I made preliminary arrangements with a different sitter that I did not go forward with. I am very concerned that Rover.com allows sitters' profiles to be deliberately false. The false information I encountered was "non-smoking household," the house reeked of cigarette smoke, "no children," there were children present as young as 5 years old, "only two dogs" when actually there were 4 dogs and 2 cats. When I come across deliberate misleading information such as this, I wonder what else is being disguised and not as advertised. It is such a disappointment to discover this service to pet owners is operated in such a blatant smoke and mirrors manner. Lesson learned - I will not be back.
Sitter sent non-stop text messages and videos at midnight, 4pm, off hours with pictures in my apartment. She decided to use my apartment as a crash pad. Did not feed at the right hours. When I kicked her out she left garlic in my cat's bowl. Tried to kill my cat. Reported her to Animal Cruelty. There's a place in hell for her.
To everyone else who has reviewed this site, thank you. I thought I could earn a little extra by being a pet sitter in the Las Vegas area, but you have thoroughly warned me that this is not the way to go. The registration process, which I never completed, was tedious and seemed quite unnecessary. It sounds like the site doesn't actually check your credentials or references, which creates more work for its users. Word of mouth or an ad on a bulletin board would be a more effective way to find a reliable pet sitter.
The Rover.com idea sounds good. But when you start meeting with those sitters, you will find it is way too hard to find a good one. People who are willing to do this business usually live in a smelly dirty house/apt, either because they have their own dogs, or they host too many dogs everyday so the place is full of smell. Anyway it is far from expected. The ones that seem okay comparing with their peers increase their rate every month. I think they really need money from this business. Not what they claimed they love dogs miss dogs whatever. Considering not knowing what happens when you can't see, I decide to use a dog hotel. At least I can see my dog by my eyes.
Good luck finding someone who can communicate and show any level of customer service. Our experience has been purely awful with a few rare gems. Overpriced, unresponsive, and not accountable for terrible communication. You must book before you'll get anywhere and a sitter can cancel on you at any time and you have no recourse. The stress and lost energy of trying to use Rover is too much. Not worth it.
Answer: 888-453-7889 for general inquires, 888-727-1140 for emergencies.
Answer: Please ask your question before expecting answers! :)
Answer: Call 18887271140 and even though it seems it is only for their sitters, don't be fooled, go ahead with the process and keep track of who you talk to. Make sure you have an email on file with them, that's usually what they ask for first.
Answer: 888-727-1140 is the main numbe to call. Hang out until you talk to the right person.
