Weeks before I was planning on going out of town for 2 days I contacted Athena through Rover.com. We had a meet and greet, she accepted the job, I felt good about it, and paid for it. The day before I was set to leave I reached out to her for confirmation, as I had not heard from her. First she tried to tell me that she was doing me a favor by coming, and that she could only come at 3pm. The time window was 6-9. Ok, so then she tells me that she always confirms the day of, instead of before, except that she knew before the day of that she was not coming in the necessary time window. She totally blew off my dogs, one of which has Canine Addison's Disease. Her excuse was that she had personal training at 6. PERSONAL TRAINING! I HAD THIS SCHEDULED FOR WEEKS! Now to Rover's part, they won't even let me leave her a review because it was only a meet and greet, and then a "cancellation". WHAT? Sadly I am/was a sitter on Rover, but I am getting off of Rover, as I don't want to be lumped with those people!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
September 10, 2023

Rover did NOT value me or protect me after a crazy woman threatened me. This woman lied to me. She added a dog without telling me. She added two cats without telling me. She didn't pay for any of the extra pets. She then asked me to take care of her CHICKENS!

She left simple feeding instructions and I followed them to a T! She has had no notes about the pets on her page. She has a dog door and allowed the dogs to go in and out as they pleased. There was standing water all over the backyard. There was dog and chicken poop all over the backyard.

The extra dog was aggressive and scary. I was afraid of it. I thought it was going to bite me. I didn't feel safe with this dog. This is the same dog that apparently ate something outside that made him sick. It has NOTHING to with me. This woman verbally abused me. She threatened me. She yelled at me. I was afraid for my safety.

I blocked her and reached out to you for help. Then she was allowed to post a review that tarnishes my name and was completely false.

I am not looking for special treatment but this woman blatantly lied about me. This is NOT acceptable!

I hired a sitter on Rover. I left early for a short vacation and by 9PM hadn't heard from them. I tried texting and calling. Nothing. Anything could be wrong - an accident, who knows. But I didn't know if anyone was taking care of my 16 year old dog for the last 14 hours. So I called Rover. They tried to reach the sitter - I think they had trouble but I wasn't sure. I told them all I need to know is if the sitter is there and if my dog is ok. I pleaded with them to go over to my house and check. Rover would have none of it. Instead they sent me an offer for $20 on my next booking and told me they aren't responsible for the sitter. Never have I experienced a company being so inhumane. Mind numbing blind greed, pure stonewalling bastards, who would not do the obvious and responsible thing to make sure a dog and or sitter were OK. I blasted them with profanity, but nothing mattered. Their $20 offer told me they were pure greedy scum. The company has no moral compass and should be trashed with fanfare.

Tried Rover for the FIRST time and SOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed. Will not be using them ever again. I booked with someone who was supposed to meet me. She canceled on me 3x. Two days before I was supposed to leave I messaged her and she ASSURED me she would be here the next day. I told her if she couldn't do it to let me know so that I would still have time to find someone else. 6:30pm, FOURTEEN hours before I have to leave, she cancels on me! When I call Rover, customer service was very unhelpful telling me that their pet sitters are "independent contractors". So basically they allow "pet sitters" to use their name and their platform but they don't care about the completely unprofessional behavior of their pet sitters! I've used other sites in the past that were way more helpful and concerned about the people that were using their website and would never allow behavior like this! Their petsitters are completely unqualified.

Our experience with KristyAnn was so bad that we actually canceled her services in the middle of the reservation! And called Rover to complain ( not that it did any good). She kept having to reschedule coming over to meet me and my pets so I should have known then it was going to be a problem.
She agreed to come to our house 3 times a day for 30 mins each but was only coming for 14-20 mins at a time and was coming at midnight and 2am. My dog is old so this was hard on her. The final straw was when she didn't show up for the morning feeding/medicine dose until 1130 which meant my dog hadn't been out in almost 12 hours. Her coming and goings daily was so sporadic and she was not staying as we agreed and paid for so we felt she was not giving our pets the best care and safety so we termed the contract mid week.
She has hundreds of great reviews but if you read them carefully they are for her watching pets in her home not in yours! There was another complaint against her for the very same issues we had and I wished I seen it before I hired and paid her. I'd never recommend KristyAnn or Rover.com again.

Terrible Sitter
January 7, 2020

Years ago I found a great person on Rover so I tried it again for a 9 day trip. We met twice with the sitter, wrote very detailed instructions to refer to and stressed many times to not let our dogs out of our fenced in 1 acre. The 2nd day of our trip I got a call from a friend, not the sitter, telling me my dogs picture was on Facebook. My good community trying to find his home and owner as he was laying in the middle of the road, hit by a car! My neighbor had CONVINCE the sitter to go with him to the vet's office where my dog was euthanized. The sitter had ONE JOB - keep my dog's alive. He failed miserably and it took me a week to clean my house from all of the dog and cat pee. I must be a terrible judge of character. When I read Rover's policy I decided to not even call them. You have to report this kind of stuff within 48hours and they state that you have to deal with the sitter first to receive any sort of vet bill or cleaning compensation. The sitter's broken down car left oil stains all over my driveway, I'm quite certain the sitter does not have the $2000 I am out thanks to this. I will NEVER, EVER use Rover again.

BEWARE OF ANGELICA FROM VEGAS!
I wish I could give a review with 0 stars! I booked a sitter in the Las Vegas area (Angelica) she has 46 five star reviews which portrays her as a good person to leave your dog with. I'm not from Las Vegas which didn't give me time for a meet and greet. When I messaged her saying I was on my way she responded that she wanted to meet me outside of her apartment. I asked if I could go into her apartment to insure my dogs safety for the night, however she said she doesn't let people in her house. I love my dog and I would never put her in a position where I didn't know she was safe. Due to this I was forced to cancel and her policy was set as moderate which means she still gets half of the money for the booking. Even though she received my money rover still does not let you leave a review on her page because it's in the canceled category. There is no way to bring this to anyone's attention while looking at her page and she probably makes hundreds of dollars off this a year. Customer service at rover tells me there is no way for me to leave a review even though I paid this host. After this experience I can promise you I would never used rover again.

The dog sitter I found through Rover made a good first impression however, once I left, my dogs were treated poorly, my house was a total mess, and treats I put out for them were untouched.

First of all, the site is confusing and challenging to use. Not user-friendly. Secondly I got about a 50% response rate. Sent to seven people heard from four. Two were busy although they hadn't had that on their calendars on the side. Scheduled with one one through the whole rigmarole set up a meet and greet texted her we were on our way. Guess what? She didn't answer the door she didn't answer her text she didn't answer the phone. She called an hour and a half later oops she forgot. Not using her!
Searched and searched again contacted three more one responded much chatting in sued oh yes oh yes the pet sitter was gleeful. Meet and greet tomorrow? Are you flexible on time? Absolutely. The next day dawns. I text her. I text an hour later an hour after that I called twice the voicemail box is full. She's gone- just gone. So, NOT using rover.com I scrambled to find another sitter. Way too much stress.
This morning the second sitter contacted me like nothing had happened-cheery and lets schedule the booking. Clearly she had not bothered to read the texts I sent the day prior, or didint care, or is a nutbar?
Rover.com has no rules for their sitters, no standards or requirements. They take $$ from both parties to be an intermediary. A giant bad business scam. I'm making a complaint to BBB, not that it will help. Rover.com should not be in business.

My experience with Rover was a complete disaster. My dog was injured during a stay with one of Rovers sitters who had all five star reviews. My dog had a gash in his leg that required veterinary care exceeding $1000. It looks like a knife cut to me, but no one has any explanation of what happened. I was called and informed at 2:00 AM while on a family vacation. I had to cancel my vacation and leave early to come home to take care of my dog. And me, the dog owner, not the sitter is responsible for the first $250 of the Vet Bill per Rover's "guarantee". Make sure you read beyond the first page of their "guarantee". In the terms and conditions on a subsequent page you will find that you the owner are responsible for the first $250 of the vet bills for the injury that occurred to your dog. The sitter is 100% reimbursed by Rover. Rover charges you the owner $250 in order to reimburse the sitter. I would not recommend using Rover. First my dog was injured and no one will say how. Then I had to end my family vacation early to come back and take care of my dog. Then to top it all off, I had to pay $250 for Vet bills to Rover. My recommendation, use a kennel, they likely take full responsibility for your dog. They are professionals. Don't trust your beloved pet with a non-professional and an Internet company focused on making a quick buck on someone else providing a service that they don't take complete responsibility for. Also, I question their sitter rating system. Even though I input a one-star review, the sitter still shows five stars. There is no indication anywhere of a one-star rating. It seems they mislead you to believe all the sitters receive nothing but five-star reviews.

Lousy service
December 11, 2023

I've had nothing but problems with them for the last year. I attempted to book someone who I felt was less than ideal for my pup so the booking was never finalized. She showed up at my door anyway and was angry when I turned her away! My last walker tried to tell me walks "increased to $40 around the holidays per Rover's policy". Rover said there's no such policy, if you start out at a certain rate through a walker, it stays at that rate, no matter what. Then I booked her for 2 walks on a day but got home early and I gave her the option of going through the evening walk or postponing it to another day. She declined both stating that she wanted to "save me money." And charged me a cancellation fee. Again she claimed this was per Rover which again they denied stating that the walker put in for the charge. Then one Saturday I worked a long day in which I required 2 walks for my pup and was charged 4 times. She submitted twice for the 2 walks that week. It took a lot of hair pulling to get my money back and I still think I was ripped off. But I talked to a rude as hell customer rep who threatened to hang up on me 3 times when I asked to speak to someone else. These calls are supposedly recorded and I can only hope that he was reprimanded! Then this walker tried to charge me twice for our weekly walk by saying, "I don't see it submitted this week. You'll probably have to go in and accept it again." This was for a Friday walk and she texted me Thursday evening at 5:30. I was charged that Monday for it. When I told her this, she said, "Oh, it just went through, now I see it." Early on in our relationship, she told me, "You don't have to go through the app. You can pay me cash and avoid the service charge. I have my own insurance." I'll text it to you". I never received any insurance information. My advice is to avoid this service at all costs!

Stay Away!
August 28, 2021

Stay away from this company!
I have a one year old Golden Retrevior named Bear, and we signed up for the dog walking service in May 2021. Our dog walker was named Danielle and she provided great service all the way up to this week, when for out of the blue I get this email from Rover. Com saying my services have been cancelled due to non payment for the days of August 16, 18, 20, 23 and 25,2021. Below is the message I received...
"We're writing to let you know that your Rover account has been closed due to a violation of our Terms of Service related to unpaid services. Specifically, the service with Danielle for August 16,18, & 20 (3 days), and 23 & 25 (2 days). Your recurring booking has been cancelled.
While your account is closed at this time, if you would like to continue to use Rover, please respond directly to this message so we can discuss completing payment for services provided. Your account must be paid in full to regain access to your account."
All the best,
--
Rosemarie D.
Rover Support
This had been paid and sent Rosemarie the screen shot of this payment. She does reply back stating thanks and saw it had been paid. She then wants screen shots for all my payments since May 2021, even though their own payment history website under my account shows those payments were paid by my credit card.
All my dog walking services were cancelled that day. Thankfully I was in town and was able to walk Bear and not out of town on business. They just left me high and dry with no dog walks for Bear even though everyone must pay a week in advance. Of course since I paid a week in advance I'm out the money they charged.
I contacted the customer service department several times, but no one responds and they seem to not want the business.
I did check on the internet after this happened and saw many negative reviews out there, so now after reading all of those, I will not be going back to this service for the safety of Bear.

Rover Theft
March 16, 2022

**Update**
I rolled up my carpet to take it to the dry cleaners and noticed my floor was damage. I notified Rover of the property damage and Rover has since denied my claim. "After reviewing the information provided, the claim has been determined to not be eligible for reimbursement." Not sure how damage to my physical property (supposedly covered my Rover) is not eligible for reimbursement. Absolutely the worst experience.

I booked Kaylea Perez in Beaverton, Oregon via Rover because her profile indicated she was a veterinary assistant. It turned out to be the worst experience. Communication started off well, It slowly weaned to where I didn't hear from her toward the last day of my trip. Upon returning from my trip, I immediately noticed my Xbox Series X was missing and a controller. In addition, my apartment smelled like cigars, my dogs water bowl was bone dry and I had a large stain on my carpet. Kaylea was not apologetic or remorseful. I reached out to Rover who's policy does not cover stolen property. Kaylea had two implausible excuses that maybe someone snuck in while she was sleeping and stole my electronics. Only after I contacted the police to file a theft report did she admit to having someone over without my permission or knowledge. In fact she didn't even provide this individuals last name to the police. More concerned if she would be in trouble which would ruin her chances of becoming a veterinarian, Kaylea chose to simply say "I don't have it". Rovers policy and Kaylea not taking responsibility resulted in significant loss. I am concerned how my dog was treated while away based on her actions or lack thereof. I would not recommend this service.

Beware of using this service. Any company that doesn't allow you to make reviews on google and is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau is a red flag. If a sitter cancels on you last minute, there is no recourse to the sitter. We have had 2 sitters cancel on us at the last minute right before our trips that we had planned for months and had already spent a ton of money on. It was just, "sorry," I can't do it. We even had a girl with great reviews who the day before our trip announced that she had to bring her infant into our home. She failed to disclose this to us the two weeks prior, when we booked her, but instead sprang it on us last minute. And if that infant or sitter gets injured in your home, the sitter can actually SUE YOU. This is something Rover doesn't disclose. We filed complaints and flagged the sitters, Rover never even responded to our complaint. NOTHING, not a word. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. They use the bottom of the barrel type of sitters too, people that can't get a job doing anything else. We had a sitter that brought her boyfriend to our home without our permission, and another male sitter who invited his girlfriend into our home without our permission, and we spotted it all on our outdoor cameras after the trip. Again, if either of them are injured on your property, they can sue you. This is no joke. No recourse at all to Rover or the sitters. A total racket. Another sitter who was supposed to stay overnight with our 3 dogs, she snuck out and went home at night leaving our dogs alone! We saw this on our cameras after returning from our trip. And we had no choice other than to pay for a service that we never really got because she didn't even stay overnight with our dogs! Don't use this service, find another option, and beware of your personal liability if a sitter gets injured on your property. These bottom feeder sitters could sue you for everything you've got, meanwhile you won't be able to get anyone from Rover on the phone or get a response from customer service.
