Someone who watched my dog, with all rave reviews, ruined my vacation. First morning I got an email, it wasn't working and someone should come get the dog. Why, he barks. What the real problem was that the person ended up having three dogs there, and despite saying they were allowed on furniture and on the bed, would gate them off in a room on there own. Was shocked when I arrived early as she was taking 2 Rover signs off the front lawn. Have no idea if the signs were legit. I think they're used to hustle some business outside the app. Sooo disappointed but worse of all, my bad review is gone! Looks like they may have changed their name slightly on the app and started over…pic is of the same person.

The Rover platform works as a host to people who work as pet sitters. They are not a hiring company, and the sitters on the platform do not work for Rover.
However, I know of plenty mishaps with sitters, but it should be known that those mishaps are few and far between. Overall, it is up to the user's discretion who they choose, and it's always recommended to meet sitters beforehand to guarantee expectations are met.

Rover.com pet sitter was unreliable.
May 12, 2024

The pet sitter I hired on Rover.com proved to be unreliable, failing to arrive at the agreed time and neglecting to administer medication to my elderly cat at the times instructed. This jeopardized my cats' well-being, prompting me to lodge a complaint with Rover's Trust and Safety department. To my dismay, they decided to retain the sitter on their platform despite my concerns. I have decided to discontinue using their services due to the subpar standard of care they find acceptable. I would urge others not to use their services.

So I will start used this for a cat sitter for two days. All they had to do was have someone come in feed my cat and change litter. The first day went perfect only reason they aren't getting one star. Now here is the issue the sitter that get assigned I don't know the system on their end but some how even after they get assigned they can cancel at any time. So when I wake up the next day checking to see if the sitter came. They never showed up Apparently the cancelled last minute and rover couldn't reassign another sitter leaving my cat hanging until I got back home later in the day thank god. Of course he was so hungry when I got home I felt terrible for entrusting him to this app. Never again, I'll just stick to a local service next time.

Thing could of been way worse if it was a longer trip and this happened in the middle.

Tina S
December 29, 2019

If you ever need to use a pet sitting service and u live in the lower Florida Key's do not, I repeat do not use Tina S. Of Summerland Key. I paid her $10 per visit plus $10 for an total of 1hr per visit and that was for 3 days at 3 visits minus one the first day. Basically I paid her $120 for 6 1 hr visits well I have security camera's located throughout my property and over the matter of those 6 visits she stayed on avg 14 minutes each time.
I would probably guess this happens to everyone or at least a majority of customers. I know it doesnt take 1 hr to feed, and play with a pet 3 times a day but if u pay for it you should expect it to happen that's the bottom line, no debating it like this moron sitter wanted to.
Just beware even if you use a service like Rover dont expect much it's always better finding someone you know or family for that matter than leaving your fur babies in other peoples hands.

I was intentionally delayed by my local police. They lie. You lie. The rover hire did not call me to tell me she would leave immediately. At best the failure to give ezch other phone numbers is bad communication. At worst leaving a house unlocked with pets unwatched because the owner is 45 minutes late is very irresponsible.

Beware. Untrustworthy!
November 9, 2019

I paid a sitter for drop in visits for my dog 2x a day for a week. This dude stayed at the longest 12 mins. One time stayed 4 mins. Just long enough to take some cute pictures. I guess the guy didnt see the cameras all over my property. Got taken for 220 bucks. Good luck with rover. Had i seen these reviews i would have done something else. Live and learn.

Beware
July 1, 2019

I did extensive interviews and did background checks. The girl we hired had 50 5 star reviews (FYI rover hires a third party to remove the bad ones we found out later). She had references that we checked(I think they were friends or relatives now). Well our cameras literally caught her in our house for just 10 minutes. She didn't give our kitten any attention (her cat had surgery a few days before) and I think she just wanted to hurry back to her house. Oh and she sent us pictures and videos (ya right we saw on camera when she left our house). She made it seem like she was still there by texting us later that "she just left" and how much fun they had playing. We did our homework and this was a quick money grab. The sitter seemed sweet and responsible when we interviewed her but she wasn't exactly honest. We cut her loose and used a neighbor. Never use Rover

Unqualified pet sitters
November 24, 2021

Rover is only the platform which storing a database of registered pet sitters who passed Rover background check. The background check is used to be free of charge, was simple and untrustworthy. Regardless that they have enhanced the quality of the background check (blue and yellow badges), it is not 100% guaranteed that your pets will be safe when being with the pet sitters.
A person who has 0 exp can claim that she has 10 exp in pet care on their Rover page. It is time to consider pet sitter as a job position, interview them via call, house visiting during the interview, has a physical offices where people can go asking for help if sonething bad happened during the stay, etc. Without these, Rover is only a platform gathering untrusted people who wants to gain some money from pet sitting services.

We dropped our 2 dogs off at a pet sitter that was apparently vetted by Rover. We got a call 1.5 hours later that our pet was "out and went across the highway."
When I returned to this persons place, this pet sitter told me that one of my 2 dogs was dead. She didn't even call us until our dog was dead and wasn't even calling the dog by the right name. And she apparently let her kids walk the dogs who were 4 and 6 years old - I'm pretty sure they weren't vetted.

DON'T trust your loved dogs with this company. This situation was unintentional but completely avoidable.

I will never see this dog again because of negligence. Any lawyers out there - I would love to hear from you

I've been burned twice by Rover.com with their cancellation policy and would not recommend their service to anyone. Rover claims it's the sitter who controls the cancellation policy but when you cancel the booking and request a refund, you're not likely to get a refund at all or only half of one. The sitter claims it's Rover who controls the cancellations and refunds, so neither the sitter or Rover have a straight answer.

I hired a Rover dog walker to walk my young Husky multiple times a week. He was a nice kid for the first few weeks. My husband was laid up with a broken back so he was here but immobile. Once the walker left the front door wide open and my dog was out running in traffic. Then he just quit showing up, I reached out through Rover and he had found a real job so he quit with no notice, just a no show.

Second attempt was a young woman to walk my dog twice a day and feed him over Thanksgiving, for 6 days. She showed up to the meet and greet with a toddler in diapers. She said she wouldn't bring her child to the walks, just to the meet and greet. We were out of state when my husband's friend called, she was at our house and the walker was trying to walk my dog with a barely walking toddler. I fired her but I still had to pay the 6 days. Very poor service and there is no contact at Rover when there is a problem.

Worse service ever
April 19, 2022

Contact a five star dog sitter it took her 2 weeks to get in contact saying she was sorting out her schedule? So we replied and guess what she did not respond Wow and we're going to I trust our dog with a person that can't even communicate? Wow and she is 5 start rated on Rover, I think this site is to make a $ and they don't care, if they did someone from Rover would have contacted us to see if all was well with the sitter we cummunicated with?! Y'a sure book a sitter and take risk that they can't watch dog at last minute NO Thanks
I would put 0 as rating if I could

Don't do it
January 2, 2022

Hired a sitter, paid and she confirmed night prior. Morning of, no call no show. They couldn't even reach her. They said they would call me back no later then 830. They didn't. I eventually called them back. They have me a 20 dollar credit if I rebooked with someone else same day. It was past time for us to make it family Christmas party. Had to cancel. Won't use again

Awful
December 20, 2023

My sitter let me down once telling me she was going to be four hours late and expected me to find a replacement when I was at work driving a bus. Then she failed to show or message one night and my dog was left alone for 10 hours. She made some terrible excuse and when I told her I was going to find someone else she kicked up a fuss like she had done nothing wrong and she refused to return my key. I had to change all my door locks and Rover didn't give a crap.

NEVER AGAIN
August 8, 2020

Left our daschund in care of Kayla Curtis of Burlington, ky. And left for vacation. Had previously met with sitter 2 times. First night had pool party, alcohol, and dog was left in upstairs bedroom. Day 2 she text and said she had to take family member to hospital and could no longer watch dog. Notified Rover but no response from them for 3 days. My husband ended up flying1000 miles back home on AM of day 3 at our expense. No one had been with dog for over 24 hours. Left $80 tip and she never returned. Guess she had a good time partying on it. Took multiple texts to get our key and garage door opener back. They were finally left in our mailbox but at this point we felt we needed to change locks. Irresponsible. Dog was not let out. Do not hire this person. She is a scam. Do not use Rover. No helpful support.

Kristen *******133; *******801) agreed to house sit my dog for four hours the next evening. I got a TM from Rover at 2am the day of the scheduled visit saying the booking was cancelled. No explanation whatsoever. I TMd Kristen and called her cell at a reasonable hour later that morning. She ignored my TMs and call went immediately to VM.

I joined Rover because I absolutely love animals and I wanted to help out those during the pandemic. I've run into mostly scammers on the site. I also had to deal with people that ghost. I watched a dog last month and the stay was horrendous. I had to travel the next day for an emergency. The dog and my dog did not get along. I then got a booking to help out 3 dogs that were great. I did my best to let the person know when I couldn't come. Didn't end well.

Here's the problem with this service.

If a sitter offers a "30 minute drop in" visit for $20 (as an example) and I have three cats, Rover calculates this as three separate charges equaling $60. Does the sitter 'drop in' for 90 minutes (3 x 30) each visit? Of course not, but they calculate the bill as three 30 minute visits!

Their process is completely idiotic. I deactivated my account and found someone locally who charges per visit with no extras other than weekends and holidays.

Literally, the WORST!
October 3, 2019

Tried Rover for the first time a few months ago. Our first sitter was absolutely horrible. We could not have had more clear care instructions for our 8 week old puppy. Not only did she completely leave the puppy alone all day, she didnt feed him and the puppy got majorly sick all over our house. She lied about it when we confronted her even though we had time stamped security footage. We reported her and Rover did LITERALLY nothing. We tried using Rover again with a different sitter. First experience wasnt bad, but these people run this like a business taking 15-20 dogs at a time. The second time with that sitter, our puppy got sick. We wrote the sitter about our dog potentially eating something weird or maybe another dogs food. She got confrontational with us and accused us of being the problem. Will literally never use this app again. Horrible sitters. I have no idea how they pre-screen these people. $#*!ty human beings with no moral conscious.
