I like how quick we get appointments and they tell us what they need to get done. Warranty companies are able to call and tell us what the customer needs done, which is awesome.
I recently utilized the Repair Pal Online System to get an estimate to have the spark plugs in my 2006 Mustang GT changed. The shop located in Dover, DE, was featured as one of their participants. Repair Pal gave an estimate of $301 to $345 to replace the plugs.
When I arrived at the shop at the time and date confirmed by Repair Pal, I was told that my appointment was not in the system. After we resolved that issue, I was given a written estimate of $798.49 to replace the plugs and one hour labor to remove any broken plug ($150 each). The ucharge cost on the spark plugs is huge. They wanted to charge me $469.84 for 8 double platinum type. That's $58.73 per plug. Advanced Auto Parts, which is located accross the street from the shop offers the double platinum plug for $21.99 each. ($18.69 currently on sale) I respectfully declined the service. Repair Pal and the business need to honor their estimates. The difference between $345 and $798 is more than double. Although the Service advisor at the shop was professional, my day was ruined. I had finally budgeted $400 for service, only to be disappointed by this experience.
They said to replace a Fuel pump on a 2001 ford Escape is $386- $475. The pump is located under the back seat and take 3 minutes to access. It took me 15 minutes to remove and replace with new pump ($125.00). I'm a Chef, not a mechanic but I checked UTube and saw it was easy.
I own an Auto shop and they charge each shop $199 to send send us customers. They do have tough requirements to get you the shop approved but as a shop owner I think all calls are fake so i canceled Repair Pal.
In April, I contacted CarMax about my 2015 Toyota Sienna dying at a stop light. We had bought the vehicle from CarMax in South County, St. Louis, Mo., in June 2019 -- with 19,200 miles on it -- with the extended warranty package covering 150,000 miles or five years with a $50 deductible, free if I have the work done at CarMax. I was told that because of Covid, the CarMax facility itself couldn't check out my vehicle for some time but that a Repair Pal shop near my house could. I had never used Jackson's Car and Truck in Fenton, Mo., before but decided to try it. Jackson's gave me great service and, knock on wood, seems to have fixed the problem (crankshaft sensor). We've used the vehicle on two trips since April of several hundred miles each and have driven around town. The repair cost me nothing. I was quite pleased with the experience and would return to both CarMax and Jackson's again.
Very cool site! I thought it was going to ask for my email or something to have an insurance agency or whatnot to contact me about it, but it gave it out pretty instaniously! Very useful. It's a keeper!
Dellinger's Tire & Auto became part of the Repair Pal network last spring. We have been very impressed with the great customer service, attention to detail and communication we have received from this company. In the short time we have been certified by Repair Pal, we have seen growth in our business. As the Marketing Director, I value the ability to listen to the calls that come in to our store from Repair Pal and also find the detailed monthly reports of our progress very helpful. Keep up the great work! Denyse O'Connor
REDUCING RATING TO 1 star.
The issue involving Repairpal.com and Patriot Auto and Truck Repair began around July 2023, and still has not been resolved. The shop still refuses to honor the estimate, and Repairpal.com is not enforcing their contract with them. The response from Repairpal.com today by Chimene Navarro was as follows:
"...our shops are expected to honor our estimator, yes, but they don't need to do work with a customer if they choose not to for personal reasons."
WOW, I wonder if personal reasons include skin color, color of my shirt, or walking with a limp. Have they heard about a thing called "Discrimination"? I was shocked by her response. I've read their contract and there is no reference to not serving customers based on personal reasons. I would understand if a customer threatened violence or broke the law. However, I did none of that. BUYERS BEWARE!
She also accused me of being aggressive in my emails to her, which was strange because all I asked her to do was read the contract that Repair Pal has with its participating shops. This was after she made some idiotic response to my concerns. I suggested that she get a job as a greeter at Walmart if she couldn't handle complaints from customers. It's apparent that Repair pal doesn't have legally binding contracts with their shops, or deliberately choose to not enforce the contract.
Hi Hubert. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review about your recent interaction with RepairPal. We take consumer reviews very seriously, and have opened an investigation into the series of events that led to your dissatisfaction.
From what we’ve uncovered, you first contacted us in July 2023. At that time, we were able to contact the shop in question and we learned that there was a new employee who wasn’t aware of the RepairPal Fair Price Estimator. We provided training around this, and the shop agreed to abide by the estimates we provide. At that time, we advised you to contact the shop to schedule an appointment.
We next heard from you February 2024, and you said “I have not received any contact from the shop. Can you provide me with an update, as they still are listed as a shop that honors your estimate” The shop agreed to honor the estimate discussed in July 2023, and we again advised you to contact them to schedule a repair.
After multiple interactions between you and the shop and you and us about the shop in which all parties were responsive to you and your inquiries, the shop declined to work with you. They’re an independent business and while any work actually performed must abide by fair pricing guidelines, they are able to decline work for any reason. In this case, they didn’t like the content or the tone of your conversations with them. Our own employees also had this experience with you in terms of tone and content of conversations; we wish to help and we wish our interactions to remain pleasant and professional. We wish you well and thank you for providing us with your thoughts so we can examine how we might improve in offering service in the future. We stand for all consumers receiving a fair deal in the care and repair of their cars and we are committed to being a force for good in the car repair industry.
I did not expect to find an "All in One" Auto Repair Shop, but I did. Using one of your RepairPal Certified Auto Shops - Andy and Terry Automotive Specialists Inc. We called the shop when it opened on 08/24/16, The shop stayed within the price range on your site, got our Expedition back the same day. It confirmed what you said in your ad. You made us believers that Great Service is still out there!
REPAIR SHOP OWNERS BEWARE! RepairPal SUCKS!
Repairpal charges referrals fees for referrals they do not create! We had dozens of referrals that Repairpal was taking credit for that were not generated by their organization. They would charge us 10% referral fees for our own employees and employees family members vehicles. They charged us 10% for my childhood baseball coach that was texting and calling me (shop owner) directly about his vehicles issues. Historically, repairpal would allow us to dispute questionable referral fees that were charged. About a year ago this started to change, and they would charge us for repairs based on limited to no evidence that they were the catalyst for the referral. They customer service team was initially very helpful and thorough, trying to work with us to get to the bottom of the issue and credit us for repair visits that they did not generate. However, they now will charge us for any visit with an account associated with one of their preferred vendors (Agero, USAA, etc). Therefore, repairpal was charging for my close friends and even family to visit my shop.
At any rate, they over charged us to the tune of thousands if not 10's of thousands of dollars over the last few years. We cancelled our account, and they continued to bill us after the closing date and for customers and repair visits that they did not create.
I could go on and on, RP sucks, do not use them!
Hi Jake,
We are fully dedicated to offering high-quality service to both auto repair businesses and consumers. Trust and transparency are at the core of our business, and we are constantly seeking opportunities to improve our service for all parties. If we make a mistake, we would want to get it fixed because that's who we are.
We see that you had been with our programs since May of 2016. We do have partner referral fees and some of the fees go back to the partner - the portion that doesn't goes back into our business to help our shops earn more business referrals. In researching, we do see that we offered goodwill reimbursements even though our invoices were accurately reflecting referrals charged. If the prior partner programs were not a fit for your business, there may be others that you'd like to explore with us.
We'd love to talk with you about partners that would be a good fit for Everett Street Autoworks, message us at Shopsuccess@repairpal.com. Thank you.
My car wouldn't start and so I had it towed to a RepairPal shop. The guy at the shop was great! He replaced the battery and reset the memory of the care (?) quickly. Its great to know the quality of a shop before I give my car away.
Thank you for your review, Chad! We're so happy you shared this pleasant experience with us and we look forward to working with you again in the future. - AH
I'm sorry, but there's waaaay too much deception and price-gouging in auto repair. Everyone I talk to wouldn't trust their mechanic to watch their dog. And that really sucks because there are a lot of great, trustworthy mechanics and shops out there (I know at least one!). RepairPal is helping weed out the stinkers in the bunch and raise the bar for everyone else. And the best part is they'll even have one of their Master Mechanics talk to the repair shop FOR you to make sure the repair being recommended is ACTUALLY what you need. I'm not a mechanic, I have no interest in being a mechanic - I just need my car to work right, and I don't have the skills to know when a mechanic is completely misleading me. I'm grateful RepairPal is there to make sure that doesn't happen.
BEWARE! EXTREMELY HIGH ESTIMATES! The low estimate from repaipal was more than Double the actual cost! This site surely is used to jack up parts & labor for repair shops that subscribe to this customer referral service. The actual cost of. Our repairs were $849. The repairpal estimate range was between $1754 to $2563!
I own a shop and I have been a repairpal member for 5 years. They will not take "any shop" they actually call your customers to verify you're not screwing people over, and that you provide good customer service. Their repair estimator tool is the same tool NAPA uses for their website, and it gives customers a point of reference to ensure fair pricing. Auto repair is complicated, getting an accurate estimate can't be done by calling around, or by clicking a few buttons, that is why the range on the estimator can be large. Using quality parts and having certified technicians is a requirement for Repairpal shops, and if your shop gets complaints, they'll bump you down the list. There was one customer complaining that it was just "paid recommendations" and that the shops were "higher than the dealer" but that is not the case. There are actually certain, very rare, jobs that the dealer will be the cheapest. For the vast majority (99%) of repairs, our independent shop is 10-40% cheaper AND offers a longer warranty! RepairPal is no different than Angie's List, Yelp, or any other review site. ALL of them have "premier" listings that the businesses pay to be in. The difference is A: the consumer doesn't have to pay RepairPal, and B: RepairPal actually checks on the shops themselves, instead of just relying on reviews (some of which are inaccurate or put on by competitors).
As an Auto Repair Shop, I feel the need to give consumers some information they may not know. My shop has been in business since 1995 and we ALWAYS make sure to EDUCATE our customers regarding the particular repair they need. We have been contacted by RP to "join" their "service" as well as Google (which will put you at the top rating for a meager $400-$500 per month). So Consumers should know going into their research that just because RP or Google or any other website recommends a shop does not mean that will be the shop to give you the biggest/honest bang for your buck because they PAY for these companies' "services" to be a "recommended shop" or a shop "at the top of the list". Do not know whether RP is good or bad hence the 1 star... this post is for CONSUMER EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. ALWAYS shop around first... it pays to get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion prior to parting with your hard earned money.
In 47 years I have heard everything from A to Z. How long a repair should take to it is only a 5 minute fix. Repair Pal is an independent service that lets customers know approximately what a repair entails. It doesn't take into consideration that it is totally rusted, bolts break or what it came in for isn't the right thing. It is the job of the Service Writer to explain why it costs more than what somebody else has said over the phone or?
RepairPal has been more than fair with the estimates and the tows that are brought to us. It is only a tool, not your whole business.
When a new customer comes and asks me why they should do business with me. I can truthfully tell them to find a shop they trust and then stick with them. If they are unhappy, please tell the owner or manager. We can't fix something that we don't know about.
We have been truly happy with RepairPal. They aren't a complete fix to your business, but it sure helps when they send us a customer. We hope we take care of all their needs.
My son was away at college and car wont start. I go to Repair Pal and chose one of their 5 star review auto shops, All Auto Repair in Tallahasee Florida. Towed car to shop and was told it needed a new alternator. They supposedly put one in, as well as 2 belts. $610 later my son started the car and left. Next day he goes to Walmart and same problem. Car wont start. He and I both tried calling both oh numbers for this business but neither worked. After 1 1/2 hours of this my son took an Uber to the shop. Garrett tells me the problem is the battery. He tells me TODAY it has a bad cell. He offers a new Autocraft battery with charges for $135. He says the battery checked out when he finished repairs day before. Now I'm thinking I paid $610 for a new alternator I didn't need because of his missed diagnoses. He even charge for the tow back to his shop. To make matters worse he claimed his "card reader" wasn't working and I needed to pay another way. My son had to go to his bank to get the payment. I will never trust Repair Pal or use them again.
Owner, Service Writer, Mechanic, Receptionist all friendly, informative, clean environment, knowledgeable, took time to explain and answer questions. I will be going back.
Hi Steve, glad you found a great Certified shop as part of our Network.
Thanks for your review!
Frustrated with this service, they grossly misrepresent to the public that shops that do not pay them are "uncertified", totally ignoring the fact that we are Licensed, Insured and ASE certified.
They also removed several reviews of our service because we stopped paying $200 a month to be "certified". This practice is misleading and manipulative... akin to extortion...
There is no place to allow me to add my CERTIFICATIONS and License information to show potential customers that I AM CERTIFIED. And BBB rated A+ Mobile Mechanic www.wego2umobilemechanic.com
Robert Grove, ASE CERTIFIED WORLD CLASS TECHNICIAN
Hi Robert,
Thanks for reaching out and informing us of your concerns. Shops that are uncertified are provided with a free listing to show customers all options of where they can take their vehicle. RepairPal Certified shops are provided with a fully optimized listing, which includes reviews, an assessment summary, organic customer calls, among other things to highlight them and their services. Unfortunately, the free version of this profile does not include these additional optimization pieces. If you'd like to take advantage of the fully optimized profile and other opportunities, you can apply at any time to be certified in our network. Per your request, we have removed your shops free listing from the site. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at: community@repairpal.com. - AH
When I got to shop the price amost double. It was simple repair. Valve cover gasket! Labor and parts both were higher. A126.00 quote turned into a 246.00
Hi Leonard, a vehicle always has to be diagnosed prior to any actual repairs, a charge that will always be added to the repair bill. Also, if your vehicle needs any additional repairs, it is the shops responsibility to recommend those to you, as they're looking out for the best interest of you and your vehicle.
We're hoping your car was running smooth and were happy with your repairs in the end.

Answer: Yes, they should honor that repair. If they are RepairPal Certified we cover them if there is a error in our estimate. Check out RepairPal.com for great shops to do quality repair on your car. Keep in mind that our estimates are straightforward. In the case of a water pump it my need other items that are not included in the estimate. These might include hose, thermostats, and possible a timing belt. These additional items, if needed can add additional costs to the repair.
RepairPal has a rating of 2 stars from 70 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. RepairPal ranks 337th among Auto Repair sites.
Hi Abe, we do have a rigorous assessment process to get a shop Certified and yes, our monthly membership fee is $199 per month (no contract). The assessment goes over the shops customer satisfaction, tools and equipment, technician training and certifications and a lot more. If the shop does not meet the requirements, they do not get Certified. We do try to recommend items shops could improve in, to then pass the assessment process.
Calls are organically placed when the shop profile is found online by potential customers. Call average and leads vary depending on where the shop is in the state and country.
Sorry to hear that you cancelled. We usually like to work with our shops to improve overall value and volume. How can we change your perception of RepairPal? Feel free to reach out directly to community@repairpal.com to engage further about your situation.
Thank you!
