I took my daughter's car to PepBoys to repair her a/c on July 9th, now 9 days ago. I feel stupid that I didn't look up their reviews before doing this. We were told that it was the a/c expansion valve for her 2009 Ford Escape. $500 later we're leaving happy and I gave them a great review. The following Wednesday, the a/c was no longer cooling. Took the car back in July 16th and they said it was probably a leak, and that they had put dye in the first time so they should be able to find the leak. But, now they said it was now the condenser and it would be $800 more dollars. How could it have not been the condenser the first time? I'm told the expansion valve rarely goes bad because it is enclosed. When I asked PepBoys, they said "it had gook". But, I'm told that they should have tested the pressure on the system for at least 1/2 hour and that it was the condenser, not the expansion valve. I couldn't afford for PepBoys to again fix the a/c. But when we got the car back home and the grill was than removed, it was easy to see the dye bubbling out of the condenser. Doing my research, the valve could have been cleaned also. But, when I looked up pricing, the part is about $35.00 and I now have to pay $500 to replace the part which I'm told was not the problem. Seriously though, I'm not a mechanic, but how could the condenser not have been the issue in the first place? I got friends to work on the car the 2nd time (but I was trying not to ask my friends to help) and they're telling me I got taken advantage of and the car was misdiagnosed. I'm being told the expansion valve should have never been replaced.
Store location, 6814 Tilton Rd #8, Egg Harbor Township, NJ *******. May 19 2020 I purchased on Pep Boys a pair of rotors and break pads for my vehicle, July 08 2020 I went back to Pep Boys and I told them something wrong with the part they sold me, the guy told to to bring back the parts and because i didnt have the copy of the receipt they can not give me cash back, but they can give me a credit, I said is ok with me, next day July 09/2020 went with the old parts and they treaded me with a nasty attitude and accused me that those auto parts didnt belong to their store, they also said the part look old and rusty, I said to look in their computer because I paid with my debbit card, they pretended to look and they said they can not find it on the system. Base on my personal experience this is worst place to buy your auto parts, costumer service is bad, what they sale is garbage, better stay with AutoZone
They over charge. There managers are horrible. You make an appt and still see your car sitting outside for an hour.
I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Pep Boys, and I must say it was an absolute nightmare. From start to finish, everything about my visit to this auto service center was a disaster. I strongly advise against choosing Pep Boys for any of your automotive needs.
First and foremost, the customer service at Pep Boys was abysmal. The employees seemed disinterested and lacked basic knowledge about the products and services they offered. When I asked for assistance, they were dismissive and seemed more focused on their personal conversations than helping customers. It was clear that providing satisfactory service was not a priority for them.
To make matters worse, the quality of workmanship was appalling. I brought my car in for a routine oil change, and they managed to botch it up completely. Not only did they take an excessively long time to complete the job, but they also failed to tighten the oil filter properly, leading to a leak. This negligence resulted in extensive damage to my engine and required costly repairs. It was a clear display of incompetence and lack of attention to detail.
Moreover, the pricing at Pep Boys was exorbitant. They charged significantly more for their products and services compared to other reputable auto service centers in the area. It felt like they were trying to take advantage of customers by inflating prices without providing any additional value. It was a blatant rip-off and a clear example of their greed.
Lastly, the overall organization and cleanliness of the facility were subpar. The waiting area was dirty and disorganized, with outdated magazines and uncomfortable seating. The lack of cleanliness and order gave the impression that Pep Boys did not prioritize maintaining a professional environment for their customers.
In conclusion, my experience with Pep Boys was nothing short of a nightmare. The combination of terrible customer service, shoddy workmanship, inflated prices, and a disorganized facility makes me strongly advise against ever using their services. Save yourself the headache and choose a reputable auto service center that values its customers and delivers quality work. Pep Boys should be avoided at all costs.
My car was leaking coolant. It was not running hot unless the coolant ran low. I did not let the car overheat. I take it to the shop to get it diagnosed. They kept my car for 2 days to change a waterpump, thermostat, and some hoses. I was told the waterpump was the issue but the other things are just precautionary. I get my car back and I dont even get it down the street before it starts running hot. I have to take it back the next day because they gave it to me mins before they closed. They tell me they want to transfer it to another shop first thing in the morning. I agree...it doesn't get shipped to late in the afternoo. 2 hours before it closes. The new shop says they now have to change my whole cooling system. I still haven't gotten my car back. They've had it snice Sat and its now Friday. This has been a nightmare. They dont call you back when they say they will. When you call, because they haven't called you all day, they have you on hold for no less than 10 mins each time. Things like a quote to fix the problem takes a day. They don't care that you have to get to work or how much money they are costing you. They have taken a week for what could have been done in a day or two at the most. This has really been a nightmare. The customer service sucks and they talk to you like you did something wrong, or you are bothering them. They make you these promises and then forget about you.unless you show up or call them again. I just want my car man. I regret coming to them so much. Im a patient person but this is too much. To get treated this badly and feel like you cant do anything about it. Just suck it up and pay. Smh I hate Pep boys. I never wanna see a Pep boys again
Failed to provide ordered part at agreed time.
I ordered this part from pep boys only because they said they would have it next day.
My son took my car in for an oil change. Twenty minutes after he left the store he called me and said it was running a good bit warmer than normal. When it cooled off enough that we could check it, any water that we put in it ran straight through and out the bottom right at to the oil pan. My son called this morning to tell them about it and they told him that they didn't touch the cooling and that it would be a charge to check it. When I called I tried to explain to the assistant service manager, James, that less then twenty minutes after leaving his care a car that was fine will now no longer hold water. His response was, "I don't understand why your making this such a big deal." The care will not hold water and is leaking less than six inches from the oil pan, where they worked. So one of two things: either they damaged the car and sent it out knowingly or they still knowingly sent out the car with a water leak because of the leaks location. That is a big deal. We are having it towed back now just to see if PepBoys is going to make it right or not. But for the moment, I'm giving one star because I can't go any lower.
Update: I was contacted by customer care after leaving a review and told that I would be contacted by upper management. That never happened. When they reached out again I was told that it would be escalated to regional and I would be contacted with 48 hours. That never happened. I can only determine from this that Pep Boys does not stand behind any issue they create or have any concern for their customers property or well being. Thank God it wasn't brakes! I will never trust them again.
I took my 2016 kia forte to pepboys on Covington highway on the 2and of January to have my oil changed the man that changed my oil is deaf and he put to much oil in my car Never changed the filter or drained the oil so the oil got into my motor and caused my motor to lock the motor has to be replaced and of course pep boys are taking no responsibility for what they did so now I'm out of a car.DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR to Pep boys on Covington highway in decatur georgia EVER the manger named Drew is an asshoe
I have taken my car to Pep Boys on numerous occasions and have always been very satisfied with their service and prices. I would recommend them.
I used this location because it's convenient even though I was told to avoid at all costs! It changes mgmt. Every month and cannot keep employees, I'll tell you why... Jayme the store manager is rude, condescending and had zero customer service skills. He makes you call other centers to get info on your previous visits just to make his job easier, he calls and gives no description of the services he performed without my approval. He charged me a battery disposal fee and $15 tax on a less than 6 month warranty that even he admitted was a bad battery! When I inquired about the battery being bad so quickly he stated "$#*! happens". When I questioned the bill I received for a warranted battery he said and just who do you expect to pay the taxes!? I was leaving the office and he never even thanked me for my business so when I said you're welcome he ignored me! I went to my vehicle only to find grease on my entire interior of my lightly colored, and recently detailed interior. He immediately got defensive, told me to pull it up to a bay so he didn't have to walk into the parking lot, then began to call his tech at home and ask if he'd ruined my interior. Lastly he said he was 100% sure Phoenix towing did it because the tow truck driver didn't know what he was doing! He lastly said they won't do $#*! for me because he used to work in that industry. He also lied that they don't get grease on cars because his people where gloves, long sleeves and he was sure everything in my vehicle was covered! The tech put covers over the deep black grease stains!?! My neighbor works for Pep Boys and told me the manager was lying as he stood in front of me after his $#*! covered in black oil from head to toe! So buyer beware, go somewhere who is honest and appreciates your business. I will never return.
I brought my van in to have a slow leak in a brake line repaired. The service manager went into the shop and asked the mechanic how long it would take for me to get an estimate. While I waited in the store. The manager was verbally attacked by the mechanic. He had is lot to do and I would have to wait in line like everyone else, he screamed and cursed for several minutes. I heard every word that was said about me to the manager. I felt embarrassed and humiliated for the manager. I apologized for asking him to see how long the wait would be. The nice manager said that's ok he's just in a bad mood. I was told I would get a phone call with an estimate in 60-90 min from 9:30 am. So I left. I received no phone calls, it was 2:30 pm. so I reached out to the mgr. He said they just brought the van in. He would call me back in 15 min. 1 hour later I got an estimate of over $1,100.00 I said absolutely not. I'll come get my van. He said OK. I go in the store I was handed my keys. I asked where is the van? The other service guy said one min. We have to push it out. I said "push it out" I drove it 8 miles here. He said it's unsafe to drive. I said ok. Thinking they didn't want to drive it w a slow leak. I walked around the building get in my van, and the brake line is completely blown. I went inside and said what happened to the brake line. He said it broke. I was never told it was worse than when I brought it in. I called pep boys customer service and brought it to their attention. They put me in contact with the area director. I thought Nicole would resolve the matter. She spoke to the service manager several times. And my van is still unfixed sitting in the parking lot of the store. All I want is to have it returned the way I brought it in. I wanted to post my estimate as credible info but I was refused a copy of my first estimate for $1,100 for a repair to a slow leak in my brake line from the service sales man. Nicole said if I pay for the parts they will charge me one hour of labor not two hours. (As per the manager) Still no calls back from anyone about the cost to do the repair I originally wanted. A slow leak fixed in a brake line.
TL; DR If you are young and/or female, avoid Pep Boys on 85th Street in Kirkland, WA. If you don't you will be ripped off by folks who have no qualms and no discernible morals.
I have been a customer of this shop for many years (10?). I have sent friends and family to this shop and repaired my two cars there repeatedly. Two weeks ago however my daughter's power steering pump broke. This is a $120 part on Amazon, the repair is taking roughly 1 hour. I was not home to check the estimate, but based on my previous history with this shop I advised my daughter to trust the work... So imagine my surprise when they charged $1800 for a repair item that would be under 500 anywhere else. They charged 6+ hours of labor and $664.24 for the $120 part. So I go to ask them what's up. Here's how that went (the manager there was Chris):
Me: "Why did you charge 5X the Amazon price for this pump?"
Chris: "We don't source our parts off Amazon".
(So the fact that they source parts from a more expensive place is an excuse? And if they indeed source from a place that is 5X more expensive, isn't that shameful incompetence?)
Me: "Why did you charge for 6+ hours of labor when this repair takes one hour?"
Chris: "We also flushed power steering and replaced the spark plugs".
Me: "That is ridiculous, highway robbery level theft".
Chris: "We checked everything with the customer".
Me: "You mean my 18 year old daughter, right?"
Long story short, no remorse, no shame, no clue about what it means to show loyalty to their customers - nothing that comes with what you would call a honest business. And what infuriated me more is that they don't pull this nonsense with me, an adult, but they prey on the young and likely on the female customer. And worse, the car did not even run for one day after the "repair" - they failed to check that the alternator was not charging and the battery came back completely depleted. $1800 for a $500 repair and the car still does not run. That's what they do to a 10+ year client. Just imagine what they'll do to you.
Took my car in for emergency brake shoe replacement. Nothing more. Estimate was $100 plus parts. Estimate time needed, two hours (book time). 8 hours later, price was $1100. With no answers as to how it jumped. Parts swappers (the pep boys on hwy 6 at 529 has no mechanics) said I needed new rear rotor/drums (existing ones had 15k miles on them). New cables, and that they couldn't let the car back on the street in such condition. I sucked it up and paid the $1100. With the provismo that I would take the old parts to nissan for inspection. All parts passing factory inspection would be reinstalled by pep boys at no charge, and un necessarily installed parts and labor would be refunded by manager- agreed. Nissan inspected the rotor drums and cables replaced by pep boys. All components were well within factory spec. Cables were incorrectly installed by pep boys, emergency brake shoes were incorrectly adjusted, and new cables were not adjusted at all. (Pep boys didn't know how to adjust the emergency brakes). Took car back to pep boys 2 days later. Gave the manager the nissan phone number. Manager refused to call nissan. Refused to comply with agreement. Said it had been over 24 hours, so they couldn't correct any of their errors. Sales person took me aside and showed me how to adjust brake cables that pep boys manager, and parts swapper said was not possible, and didn't exist. Time required... 1 minute to adjust. So I'm out 7 hours plus the nissan visit, and out $900 dollars. Run, don't walk away from this pep boys!
Love this store all around great customer service wether it in the store or on the phone I had a great experience with pep boys
I get everything I need for my car here, they have everything that I could possibly need and the prices ain't so bad.
I went here on Monday morning to get my windshield wipers linkage replaced in Savannah, Georgia. The mechanic at the front desk gave me several quotes. Initially when I arrived, he quoted something like $214 for the repair. Then he took it upon himself to start adding things to the repair to inflate the bill like three windshield wipers. I inquired about how three wipers came into this repair and he tried to explain I needed them; this was a lie because I had just purchased new ones recently. I told him to take those off because I did not request them; always ask customer first before just adding things on the bill. So, now this was about $400 totaled up. I decided not to do the repair at the time because the warranty was not paying for it. I did pay the diagnostic fee of $89. When I was getting ready to leave, I asked him to print me out an itemized quote and this time this bill came to $458 even though I had paid the diagnostic fee. I questioned him on why this bill kept inflating each time, and he was stumped just saying "This is how much it is." I told him this was not so and he was only a thief trying to rip customers off because I had previously gotten a quote total $250 from another shop. I told him he thinks people are stupid and he would be reported. He then told me he did not care. I hope they fire this guy, or he goes to jail because he is helping to bring on lawsuits against this company. He just can't go around charging people "willy nilly" prices and think they are fools. Any and every one reading this, please be careful with this ripoff company and take your vehicle elsewhere for ethical repairs. This place is garbage!
I generally avoid Pepboys because they are expensive and the service is usually pretty mediocre. Better off going to a smaller time local business.
Great stuff to take care of your car. Service is fine for tires, oil changes and basic things like that.
Went to pep boys in Round Lake and was able to recycle old oil and antifreeze. Tony was very helpful with this process. Thanks again!

Answer: They are a legit company, but deceitful and immoral.
Answer: 3rd party. I wouldn't buy anything for your vehicle there. Cheap, outdated parts
