NextDoor is run by Liberals, not Conservatives. There is no moderation at all. Cyber bullies lurk and viciously attack those whose speech they want to silence. If you post anything critical about anything or anyone and don't say "the sun is shining and the birds are singing" in the liberal pc utopia, you will be attacked, and your comments or entire thread will be deleted. Plus you will get a totally canned response from NextDoor. All of their responses always have the same wording. It's like robots send out the responses. I would not recommend this site to anyone. My advice to all is to stay away from NextDoor. It divides neighbors and pits them against each other. The NextDoor support staff is totally immature and irresponsible and incompetent, and they don't care.
Kept getting private messages sent to me by a whacked neighbor who attacked me for cautioning people to drive the speed limit --I "muted" her but she could still PM me, so I'm done. They need to have a Block feature. Also, for some reason, this site seems to attract drama queens and kings with too much time on their hands to bash, complain, and harass. I'm outta there!
Okay, so if you need a plumber might be an option, but if you're interested in talking about anything difficult, like say trash in public places, or aggressive drivers, forget it. Just a feel good place for another software company to sell your data, and for entrepreneurs to look for their next marketing opportunity.
Nextdoor has helped me connect with neighbors, find cheap furniture, and stay informed with what's happening in my neck of the woods. There are crazies, sure, but that's a reflection of our society, not the app. As long as you understand that, you're golden.
Small neighborhood community app or email that can keep us informed as neighbors when something is going on in our neighborhood whether good or bad, things for sale or needed. I think it's great most of the time
While i am grateful to have made real friends, no one seems to be in charge and suspensions occur abruptly and without cited reasons. The Guidelines are randomly enforced - or not at all - so you get nasty, mean-spirited name calling, lies, and false accusations. This social platform sounds inviting, but it's not good for your mental health. There are so many others to choose from. This should not be one of them.
The app if used for its intended purpose would be great. I agree with many other reviews on here that if you have a different view than the majority you will be ripped apart. A neighbor started a post about my family and when I asked the lead politely and respectfully to remove it due to all the stress it was causing, he flat out said no. The next door moderators refused as well. Stay away from this vile nasty app... You'll save yourself a lot of misery from dealing with nasty mean people.
I'm met many of my neighbors and learned about a lot of community events on Nextdoor. Much more aware of petty crime in the Neighborhood, as these types of crimes don't often show up in crime stats. Because you can't rely on facial expressions or tone of voice when online, it is sometimes hard to evaluate where others are coming from. But once I met my neighbors in person, I realized that they just sound more strident online then in person. Site works really well for finding lost pets. If people follow the guidelines, the site is great.
Very surprised by others' negative reviews. Here in Cambridge, MA, Nextdoor is a great site. It helps create a sense of "neighborhood", and helps find useful things and services; e.g. I just found on it someone to dig out my car from the snow.
People who break rules consistently, and nothing happens to their whiny, belligerent, childish posts. Others who make innocuous, or even helpful, posts/comments have their comment removed because some unknown, unfair reason.
So yeah, basically the creators of this "service" knew what they were doing. Bunch of NOSY neighbors trying to create the conditions for MOB RULE mentality.
They tried to disguise it as some "neighborhood focused" social media thing. It's so sad it's almost funny. Until they go and inspire the next lynching or witch hunt. Make no mistake this site is the regurgitated bile of society's worst smelling excrement: the People of the Green Lawns and lily white aprons. So let's see how far this goes before people get hurt beyond repair.
There is a lot of blaming and lying on Nextdoor.com.
Leeds have way too much power... especially if they don't like you. They can smear you and get away with it!
Bogus website!
Enter at your own risk!
The biased handling of content by the "Leads" is of concern, who tend to be a small group of (mostly white) men, who seem to resent women who have opinions on anything other than casserole recipes. My account got suspended after a minor disagreement of opinion with a neighbor, there was no discussion, no example, nor explanation, just a canned message stating "violated terms not being helpful" despite having four years of membership. If it's truly a "neighborhood" forum, one would expect there would be dialogue to clear up any misunderstandings.
Nextdoor is a great resource platform for services, crime & safety updates, lost & found pets, restaurants, and general neighborhood information. You can announce garage sales, items for sale, position openings.
Nextdoor wants to be the neighbor everyone wants to adore. But it really just wants to collect data.
Nextdoor changes perimeters of maps without any real notification so you really don't know how far away someone really resides. There appears to be no one questioning the verification processes. In fact, I am not sure they even use a verification process.
It also blocks a lot of comments for questionable reasons. Leads are power tripping, and back stabbing in some cases.
Not sure it will fit much of anyone's needs other than list lost pets and did you lose your electric.
NextDoor or ND is an ad marketing firm that feasts off of the communities they prey on through their community member-owners. In-turn, some of the resident owners get to carry out political agendas and avenge their disagreements with local neighbors by banning or restricting their comments or even suspending a resident all together. This is done under the guise of limiting offensive or objectionable comments. Worthy statements for sure. But in actuality the "ND Leads" side with their abusive friends to determine whose comments should be penalized. Ultimately, this assures ND's continued demised.
Listings don't show up for agents as promised. When I contacted customer support they said we need a direct feed to Nextdoor which just didn't sound right because most places pull directly from MLS. So I contacted my broker with the contact they gave me. They never contacted them.
Used it in our community to find babysitters, crime watch, neighborhood yard sales, lost pets, many other events in the community. Town meetings etc.
Don't let these reviews from California scare you from trying this site. Not all communities are like that.
It worked great for us and honestly I am surprised to find any negative reviews.
I understand the Invasion of privacy security risk... but on the flip side being able to be in touch with the other closer communities and seeing their issue or they seeing ours is a big plus. We need to watch each others back...
Agree with all the other reviews found. Speak your mind - and get booted off!
Administration is a bunch of losers who don't care what the situation is - they just care that someone complained and now you're outta there!
Can we say 'trump country'?
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
