I too am not happy with the way this sellout has been handled - clearly money means more than the community that have supported the service. I've spent some time looking around for something that would match Streetlife in terms of reach, anonymity and features ans I strongly recommend that you investigate this one
It matches very well what Streetlife offered: offer and request sections, notices section for posting and discussing topics of interest, Streetclub for running common interest groups and a 10 mile radius reach. It's also non-profit-making and committed to no ads as well. I've tried it for a few days and have found little to criticise:
https://www.streetbank.com/?locale=en
Remember to spread the word if you like it as these sites only begin to have real value if the numbers are there to create regular activity
I figured an app that lets you discuss things with neighbors would be a great idea. I joined and deactivated my account after 5 minutes. Take all the worst boomers you can find on Facebook and that's what NextDoor is. It's filled with conspiracy theories, racism, and folks who never finished high school giving their "expert opinion" on COVID19. Maybe have each street elect a representative and not let everyone post whatever is on their minds?
Nextdoor is not a user friendly site, with limitations that appear to be by design after it became a public company.
The newsfeed is overloaded with alarmist posts and comments about crime, almost all of which include misinformation and slander--against those who disagree, public officials, government entities, teenagers--and dog whistles for race-, ethnic-, or location-base groups. There are bullies and fear mongers, many of whom are trolling for likes and comments that reinforce their claims.
The Home page is missing important categories, such as Help and Community Guidelines. Reporting offensive posts is limited by the short list of categories/reasons to choose from and no place for more detailed input from the reporting member, which could offer insights for analysis.
It's become an unfriendly place to be and is losing engagement with many members.
I made a post about warning people that there were traveling gypsies in the area panhandling for money and my post was removed for supposedly "Discrimination" but it was not worded in a negative way but purely they will pull posts down simply because they do not like the content. Also the community review team is compromised of local residents which many of them should not be qualified for any kind of moderation. I live in Florida and I can tell you that I have been harassed by these hardcore MAGA supporters but yet some how they are on the moderation team hurling racial slurs among everything else.
If you don't like negative people in general just stay away from Nextdoor. Mostly it is full of older people either griping or complaining about the slightest things. I recall one guy complaining about a little kind running over his sprinkler heads with a power wheel. Just really sense stuff that it isn't worth fighting over
I highly recommend Space City Plumbing, Inc. They replaced our entire home old galvanized pipes with Pex piping.
1) Professional-hardworking employees, friendly, and courteous, each person on first day knew their role and
worked diligently.
2) Micah, Jr., made sure all was going well and updated me on progress.
3) Augustine and Isiah arrived timely day two, as promised to connect all the Pex pipes. They are like worker
bees, progress reports throughout the day.
4) Even new in 79, we have NEVER had this amazing water pressure throughout our home.
We are pleased we hired Space City to replumb our home. We will definitely call Space City for future kitchen and bath faucet replacements, etc.
I've been a very active member of Nextdoor for 3 years. My work is public service and use the outlet to warn neighbors of impending weather alerts and I watch the COVID-19 updates. Apparently they say I posted something in regards to covid 19 that was verified as incorrect. I never posted anything untrue at the time. The issue i have is how can they Disable opinions about a virus that mutates almost daily. They refuse to reply to my Emails asking them to show where this violation occurred. I will be the biggest thorn in the next door side. I take this ban very personally and i have 18,238 followers that will voids their opinions on the platform if they don't give me an answer or fail to reply ir not reinstate my account by Monday
Nextdoor is an awful site, they should call it either Nextcomplaint or Nextban. All people do is complain about dog poop in their yard, or why are helicopters flying in the air, or did you hear gunshots, or who is this person my ring-doorbell recorded? People will discuss politics usually some leftie blaming something on Trump and if you defend President Trump they start a fight with you and bait you into saying something that nextdoor considers breaking the rules - then you are banned. It totally sucks and I suggest for people not to use it so they won't know how many jerks they have living close to them.
Our local Nextdoor was hijacked by a very well organized group with a political agenda. They bully anyone who disagreed with them and troll every post to add their hate filled messages. They used it as a platform to launch a recall campaign on our City Councilmember who was elected with 71% of the vote just 4 months earlier. The leads not only didn't moderate to stop this, but at least one was a key organizer. This is in complete violation of the Nextdoor code of ethics but complaints to the Nextdoor help line were ineffective. Sadly, I unsubscribed, losing the benefits of getting referrals and learning about community events - which is what I joined for.
Operators of this app silence conservative views. Suspend accounts when your post does not align with left thinking. Fosters bullying. Leads are not vetted, they are random assignments and if you aren't in their click, they constantly report you. Worst site ever. The creator has a felony hit and run on his record. Pretty neighborly behavior, right? Anyone know how this site makes money? If it's advertisers, anyone know who? It's high time we all start emailing them with the truth about what they are supporting. A bunch of bigoted, leftist, snowflakes who have no care in the world for the safety and happiness of neighbors.
It's turned into a place for panhandling, scamming, spreading conspiracy theories, and selling yourself as a professional when people want honest recommendations for real professionals. The two worst issues for me are 1. The "why can't we just get along" remarks where people are too busy monitoring others to monitor their own behavior, and 2. The Gofundme begging because next door has a lot of easy marks and people who don't know you.
This is an alert to be aware of Nextdoor's seemingly totalitarian agenda and to take screenshots of any comments or posts you make there to help document their Big Brother/Operation Mockingbird censorship to others on all your social media.
What are they trying to desperately hide?
To me, arguments must be pretty weak if all Nextdoor can do is delete comments, block posts, and promote "official propaganda". I wouldn't be surprised if Nextdoor is used, if not developed, by covert intelligence sources to keep track of everything people say, do, and think. Their cultivated "snitch culture" reminds me of the Stasi in East Germany.
Beware!
Again, take screenshots and get the word out about what a growing number of people are referring to as "Nextdoor Nazi."
We currently have a recall of an important member of our city council member Laurett Barrentine.
OUR Nextdoor has moderators that are promoting the recall. They have censored two posts I made just today as "not nice" though they are totally truthful.
I called them out on their corruption, but they just deleted it.
That's what goes on ALL through this app! Censorship censorship censorship!
No voices for the opposing side can even have a voice.
First amendment rights! Ha! That's a joke!
AND, those that moderate cause trouble! And get away with it! Others get banned for the same!
But nothing gets done about it.
Think twice before using this app. I am only using it due to the recall. Otherwise too many idiots!
Continue to be re-registered by either the company or site lead. Have unsubscribed and quit the stupid site three different times only find NEW bat-$#*! crazy posts from "neighbors" I don't know. Ironically, it keeps signing me up for neighborhood I don't even live in. There must be some sort of con / grift going on whereby the company is trying to pump up its user numbers.
You would think that San Francisco would have the best Nextdoor website since the company is headquartered here. Given what is moderated, I wonder who is paying Nextdoor ensuring narrow moderation views. This is a scummy website. Read the reviews from all over the country. I smell a rotten fish. It is not even about the company holding a liberal bias because what is moderated here is outside national political polarization.
I cannot believe this app posts your address, for one, even a street name is way too much info. Some neighbors are legitimately insane. After being threatened for telling people to chill about the 9,000th post freaking out about people walking in the street, i've deleted the app. No help from nextdoor, and honestly it's not worth risking my safety. I'm still upset about one of my neighbors threatening to dox me and I'll probably be extremely anxious the next couple of days. Thanks NextDoor! Screw you!
My experience with Nextdoor.com leads has been repeatedly a bad one, in the Ramona, CA area. Upon investigation I have discovered that Leads are not screened adequately. Anyone, including people with personal problems, could become a lead. Bullying, favoring some discussions over others, cutting off important discussions, unfair treatment, and profiting off being a Lead are just a few examples. Basically we are allowed to ask each other for help with finding a local business or with missing animals. Those are the safe topics. Anything off those is game for having one's wrist slapped. It is boring and like a dictatorship as a result.
I appreciate the Nextdoor site because it keeps me informed on little and big things regarding my neighborhood. If there is a topic I do not have interest in, I can easily ignore it. If there is a topic I am very interested in, I can follow it for as long as I like and turn off notifications when I am ready. Thank you for the site - I think it is wonderful!
Nextdoor operates, or supposedly operates their site, yet take ZERO responsibility for what happens there. One of the leads in my community is angry, hostile, hysterical & xenophobic. She rabble rouses & beats everyone into a frenzy. I have written to Nextdoor repeatedly yet they are unwilling to do anything to get people to follow their own stated guidelines. It's namecalling & paranoia.
Maybe it operates more constructively in other neighborhoods, but it is a disaster in mine. SHAME on Nextdoor, who, BTW, you cannot reach by phone.
I read Nextdoor daily Iy is very informative and has great referrals for home projects. There ade many evrnts in the neighborhood, activities, events and items for free. Sometimes employment opportunities.
I just got my account disabled without any kind of warning. The boilerplate explanation is that I supposedly provided disinformation about COVID, but all I've ever said is that people should wear masks and vaccinate. If there's anything inaccurate someone should have reached out and I would have corrected it. Instead, they just disabled my account for four days.
A friend of mine was made a neighborhood lead without being asked. She tells me some people report everything they disagree with and some of the other leads don't even bother to check out their claims to make sure they're valid.
Nextdoor.com is becoming a popularity contest rather than a useful way for neighbors to communicate. Don't bother.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
Nextdoor has a rating of 1.9 stars from 3,047 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nextdoor most frequently mention social media, real name and free speech. Nextdoor ranks 503rd among Social Network sites.
