Used CDs
September 10, 2021

I would say a fair percentage of their CDs are damaged, resulting in sound distortion, slips and sticks. They are good for DVDS but terrible for CDs. Don't touch them. They also charge you for returns, it's like dropping money down the drain.

Scammers don't use
November 28, 2022

Sent my mint condition phone kept in a case whole time for trade in Iphone 13 pro. Took a week to get there. Within 15 mins of them saying they received it received another email to say it has failed their tests and the microphone doesn't work dropping my quoted price of £550 to £120 I of course declined the offer. It took another week for me to receive the phone back. I then took it to carphone warehouse/ currys who plugged it into their system and it passed with flying colours watched the man test the microphone with no problems! It's a con they are banking on you believing them it doesn't work and taking the lower amount! Complete waste of my time. I then looked back at other reviews and there are plenty more that have had the same experience as me! Avoid don't waste your time

In December I sent an Ipad Pro 12.9 inch third generation 256 GB to Music Magpie. It was in really good condition and functioned perfectly. I sent it with the original box and wiring. I was offered £510 for the Ipad. However, I received a message with a revised offer of £107 because the item was not as described! Curious because the week before CEX had assessed the same Ipad as working perfectly and in very good condition. I asked for the Ipad to be returned. It arrived covered in finger marks, I had to clean it. I thought extra cleaning precautions were necessary in a pandemic Terrible service and I think the ‘assessment' was a scam so a very low price could be paid. Avoid at all costs!

Selling untried products
February 24, 2022

They sold me a Moto G8 power. I spent ages setting it up on WiFi but when I put a sim in it, it turned out to be a brick. I had to wrap it and send it back but rather than replace or repair they just gave me my money back wasting hours of my time. Not even offered an alternative or discout for being messed about. Shockingly poor customer service

Living proof of the sharp practice at Music Magpie when selling your phone. Reduced offer from £75 to £7 due to phone being severely damaged etc'. Declined the offer. Received phone back today after kicking off. Arrived back as pristine as when I sent it, box intact etc. Nice try! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Company will offer an insulting amount of money for a phone which is in great condition. They will get back to you and advise there is a random technical fault which a normal person does not understand let alone have the ability to check. Phone has been checked by an apple technician upon return and fault mentioned was not present in phone. Scam. Avoid and save wasting your time.

Complete joke
February 28, 2022

I wish I'd read reviews first.
Sent a perfectly good condition phone and luckily I took photos before I returned and they state that everything in good condition but screen cracked even after I provided the photos they say they have qualified technical staff. I have declined the offer and waiting to receive my phone back. Which I'm hoping is in the condition I sent it in. Offer was 145.00 reduced to 40.00.

Sent an excellent condition IPhone XR 128GB, literally has a few tiny scratches on the bottom near the charge port, they quoted me £175, got an Email today saying they've revised the offer to £52 as it passed everything except front microphone not working properly!?
Funny that as it worked perfectly fine when I last used it a few months ago.
The microphone must have stopped working over these last few months, you know while the phones been sitting in a bubble wrapped envelope in my bed site table because I forgot about it.
Shame as iv always had a good experience buying from them.

Selling items
December 14, 2020

I submitted to identical moves which had an offer of £40 each. Both in perfect working order. 1 x £40 was paid straight into my bank account, 1 x offer of £4 for the other device stating it was faulty. Absolutely disgusted as both mobiles were bubble wrapped in original boxes. Still awaiting the return of second device. Beware of their little scam

I sent a 2015 Mac Pro book for sell with a quote of £190. I bought it from Covent Garden Apple Store at the end of 2016 for nearly £1000 and started using it in 2017. The laptop is five years old, fully functional and reset. The only problem is the battery life, which takes time for being fully charged and runs around 2 to 3 hours. Music magpie sent me a new offer of £19 due to the low battery. Of course the laptop won't have a 100%battery life. They actually sent an offer of £19! It is worse than a joke. Please don't bother with this company for recycling your gadgets. They don't have any bottom line for the price they can offer and don't care about the difference between the quote and the actual offer. Save your time from this time waster.

Incredibly slow, and no come back when they decide to "reject" items for arbitrary reasons (and won't provide evidence). The whole process for sending 75 CDs took 5 weeks from them collecting the CDs to finally having the money in my account (less the amount they deducted from the final amount for rejected items). The only other thing with rejected items is that you can't have them back either.

Maybe this is a teenager running it all from his bedroom?

Items sent and offered price was a little low but i sent the items as i thought it would be easy to use. It took a week to review the items then instead offering 189 for a perfectly working iphone 11 they claimed cosmetic damage and offered 63 instead! No mention of my apple watch in the email so i'm now waiting for my goods to be returned when i could have sold them elsewhere. I will not be using them again.

I sent in a perfect Samsung galaxy S2 tablet without a mark on it and I checked it was fully working with no faults. They quoted £79.99, after a few days of not hearing anything I checked my account to check for progress only to find it was classed as faulty and a revised price of £7 would be credited to my account after 7 days of music magpie receiving the tablet as full and final settlement. They did not notify me that my tablet was faulty they were just hoping that 7 days would elapse without me noticing and it would be too late. I quickly informed them to send it back and I would not be accepting their offer. Guess what my tablet arrived in full and perfect working condition. So just watch it with this lot as it's very sharp practice. Unfortunately for music magpie they tried it on with the wrong person and I will be taking legal advise on Monday morning.

These lot are a rip-off; my wife and I have sent three items now (2 phones and an iPad) every time they offer the highest trading price Vs others, and then every time they claim some damage, e.g. water damage which turns out to be a lie. The last time (Oct 2022), they offered 175 for the iPad Vs 135 from apple, BUT surprise, "water damage, so we can only offer 19" I refused and sent it to apple and they confirmed no damage and gave me the whole 135. A total sham; please avoid them.

Fraudulent purchase
September 7, 2023

Someone has used my details to purchase a mobile phone and I am getting a "Notice of Sums in Arrears" letters. I keep complaining to them by email and returning the letters but have not had any reply. I phoned the "Rentals Support" number and complained and they said to call the fraud line which I did and they had me a crime number. Nothing has happened and I am still getting the arrears letters. Needless to say I think that their communications are abysmal!

AVOID
March 5, 2020

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

Purchased a phone, as I needed it urgently for work, paying for the next day delivery.

Phone was described as in 'good' condition, which was not the case - phone is covered in dents, and the whole surface is extremely scratched (description promised it'll be a scratch or two that's easy to cover with the protector).

Phone also arrived broken - home button was stuck in, making phone impossible to use, and once again not meeting description of the product on the website.

When got in touch with Customer Support, I was put through to the lad called 'Sam G.' who refused to help me and then his manager 'Jamie' refused to speak to me without giving me any reason.

So not only, musicmagpie sells evidently broken phones, it also refuses to resolve any customer issues and managers are not bothered either.

Magpie Are Thieves
October 18, 2021

Sold them Cds, Dads, Books via Royal Mail. Got confirmation via email and app that they received them. Heard nothing for a couple of days, emailed them and asked them what's going on. They claim they not received items so I look on there website to see if you can buy the rare ones they would never get everyday I sold them and surprise surprise they are on there, whole list of them. Emailed them about this and not heard anything since. So basically they've stolen £100 worth of items from me.

IPhone 7
March 20, 2022

Beware of musicMagpie! Their practice is to acquire cheap used phones with broken screens & replace them with 3rd party ones. The colour & resolution suffers. Apple confirmed this at a local store. The phone was described as "pristine." March 2019
