My 1st personal add was in a newspaper 23 years ago where I met my wife. I am a widower. I passed on her add twice, she answered my add. I proposed at the end of our 1st date. Never regretted it for 1 single second. They do work.
But you will only get out of it what you put into your profile. The more you put into your profile, the more careful you have to be. The sites have one purpose, separate you from your money. If you get a full subscription with all the frills, your experience will probably be a good one. If you try to use a "bargain" subscription, everything is geared to get you to upgrade. Be aware going in.
I started with Match.com and then switched to Zoosk. They both work basically the same way. Zoosk seems a little more determined to separate you from your money. Match pays a lot less attention to who uses their site. I got many more "ladies of the night" and scammers on Match than I do on Zoosk. Neither on pays much attention to your "preferences" in "matching" you to some one else.
I would like to extend a strong caution to the women. From the stories I hear, the scammers and men cheating on their wives is much worse for you. BE CAREFUL. There are good men out there (like me) but the people working the scams and hookers are extremely sophisticated and, I believe, are doing psychological profiling to target individuals. I put a lot into my profile and it makes me an easy target. I have had 2 hookers admit that they had been coached on how to approach me. But if you are like me, this is the only way of meeting anyone, JUST BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
Worst customer services, ever. Took two emails, a call to texas to get 800 for customer service. Then an arguementitive jerk... What happen to customers being right and making them happy..
This site and its customer service don't deserve ANY stars! My account was set for auto renewal. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a life. I don't remember what my renewal date is. So, when $120 was withdrawn from my account without warning, I got ticked and contacted customer service. Why is it so hard for Match to send an email a few days ahead saying your subscription is about to expire and they will be taking X dollars out of said account? Other sites do it so I know it can be done. Then I complained about how they have this stupid 6 month free guarantee. I'd been on the site for 18 months with no results. So while apparently I was not eligible for the 6 month guarantee, they refunded the entire $120 they charged me. So, what's wrong with that, you must be wondering. Well, they ERASED MY PROFILE! When I try to login I get a message saying 'this profile has been resigned.' Even a non-paying member can have a profile. Why the HELL did they erase mine? I have been a paying member on and off of Match for the better part of 10 years. I've met 2 of my boyfriends on there, but I have seen customer service decend into the bowels of hell over the years. They have cut off their nose to spite their face. I will now NEVER renew my subscription, EVER with this company. I'd rather flush my money down the toilet.
Our site may be experiencing technical difficulties, or we may be working to enhance this feature.----------------- I have had this now for over a week!

I had a one month subscription and wanted to turn off the auto renew because I knew I would not want to sign up again, but when I tried to cancel something came up stating I could get 3 months for the price of one, so I clicked on it to see how much it would be (I'd forgotten how much I paid for the 1 month). Nothing came up to show me how much and I was still on the same screen, so continued my cancellation. Later I got an email stating I'd signed up for 3 months. Which I did not. I emailed countless times to no avail... I got no response. Since they are closed by the time I got off work, I called on one of my days off. I was told by the rep that I would be refunded for the 3 months which was supposed to be from September to November. I'm still on the site and they will not respond to my emails. Yesterday, I got an email that I was charged for another 3 months when this 3 month subscription hasn't even expired yet. More emails with no answers. Match.com is not great as far as matches (they kept giving me Canadian profiles to look at), and their customer service is horrible. Not to mention, this is not the first time this I was charged when I shouldn't have been. I should have learned my lesson the first time.
Thieves. No customer service. There should be a class action suit against them. Attorney General should investigate practices Unfair practices. STAY AWAY.
Yes match.com is the newest business to employ spammers to send their un-wanted spam to fill your mail box... they pay spammers for anyone who clicks or buys. I for one am sick of it!
Please please please never use Match.com they will ask you to sign up for a guaranteed 6mo membership and make you believe you will get an additional 6 months for free! This is what I did - giving up $150 CAD was a hard decision in itself, but then 6 months later, there is another $150 charge! I was horrified - that is $300 total in one year. It is days away from Christmas and now I will have to make sacrifices in purchasing gifts for family. I only met two men and I was disgusted by their demeanor. THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY! They offered to charge me $60 USD for ONE MONTH in exchange for the 6 months. Who in their right mind wants to pay $60/mo to be abused?
For all of the bullying and forum and verbal abuse I have been subjected to on that site, I am in tears to know that it has cost me both financially and mentally.
I cancelled my membership and an email appears out of the blue saying that my account was reinstated. It was an email account that I used only for match so I never looked at it again until I got charged $68.00 for another three months. That's when I looked into the old email account and saw the reinstatement THAT I NEVER DID. No way for a refund and I know I didn't reinstate it and no one else has access to my computer - THIS IS INTERNET CRIME - BUYER BEWARE!
I joined Match.com and Plenty of Fish (POF.com) on the same day. I used the same photos and bio on both sites. I initially used the free version of both sites but had to upgrade on Match.com to see emails (which were free on POF). In the past three months I averaged five responses on POF to every one response on Match. That's right, a 5 to 1 difference! I decided to cancel Match and followed their instructions until the process was completed on their website. However I did not receive an email confirming this but then I wasn't really looking for one not knowing I had to have it. They auto renewed me and when I called regarding this charge the next business day, they refused to refund me my full amount. Instead they said they would give me a "one time courtesy" refund of 30%. This is a total rip-off for a site that charges for what other sites provide for free. Here's something to think about, they pay millions of dollars for all their slick media ads and they are still losing out to other online dating sites. There's a really good reason for this, bad value for the money and extremely poor customer service.
50% of the women on this site either doing a trial and cannot respond to the emails or there membership has expired and they did not remove there profile. Waste of time and expensive
I never met one guy from Chicago several of them went to the left as in spankings calling me mommy GROSS JUST GROSS! I'm older but not old I'm self sufficient but love to be spoiled! I expect to be treated like my dad treated my mom till death did part them a LADY!
Meet several on match everyone was a scammer. What a fool I felt I was liked several very much they are very good at it. Please don't join this site. I am heartbroken after the last episode
The other day I signed up on Match I knew within five minutes that it was I wasted my money I started receiving emails from women half my age from around the country that I totally fake and the women that are there how the same woman that were there a year ago and all the same women that are on Plenty of Fish so do not waste your money the site is a scam I called and asked for refund and they absolutely refused
This webpage is excellent. The website is simple to use and offers a wide range of potential dates. I've been happy with this site for about four months now that I've been using it.
So they recommended a person. I clicked 'match me' they quickly charged me 2$. Thats when I realized they have kept my credit card info. Ok.
So I am matched with this person, turns out account is not active. Poof its gone!
I message them if the match never happened, why I should pay for a service that never happened?
They suggested I choose more active accounts! I explained that they had suggested the account. Poof customer service person disconnects.
So I message them again
I asked for my credit card info to be removed. Turns out they plan to NEVER delete ANY of my information, including credit card, even after I am gone. Is that even legal I asked? Poof disconnected.
Keep in mind this is after I discovered that the membership has tons of hidden fees. They will match you with people and then you realize that person also has to pay to talk to you, that is, if they are real. People appear and disappear. After I came here I realized they were probably not even real.
Beware of these guys. I have deactivated my renewal but know they will try and charge me again. This is what companies like Match.com do. They are too big, 2$ is too small and the occasional, 'accidental' renewal moves the stock ticker. Avoid!
I became a member of Match after seeing their ads about a zillion times on US TV and finally giving in & joining! Ive been single for 6 months or so now and the only other time i tried online dating was when I signed up to WeJustFit.com, which I really liked and met some super people with. Maybe I'm just lucky cos Match has also turned out to be a pretty great choice also, though maybe not quite to the same standard but still a nice option and its always busy no matter where you run your searches from. At the end of the day you cant go wrong with either of these sites, id say don't risk using something you've not heard anything about and stick with these types to be sure to get the most out of the whole online dating thing whether you just dip in every few months like me or you run your membership constant. The expense is nothing for what you're getting access to (single people who are serious about finding someone to settle down with) and there are worst ways to spend your evenings than speaking to interesting people who are just as fed up as you at being a singleton - thats for sure! Haha! Keep an open mind and try to have fun. Good luck!
If I could give this website 0 stars I would.
This website is f*****g awful. I've never dealt with such bad customer service in my life. They automatically renewed me and charged me 100$ for another 3 Month subscription. (They wouldn't give a stupid refund.) ALSO the person I spoke to barely spoke English and was probably in Timbuktu! I paid for my first three months and the experience was TERRIBLE. They have you put in what you're looking for in a significant other but then they allow ANYONE to contact you, see your profile, like your pictures ETC.
Looking for someone aged between 25-30? Well here are a bunch of creepy 40 and 50 year olds. Like WTF? Never mind all the fake accounts as well. Honestly you're better off with Tinder, you'll probably have more luck on that app. STAY AWAY FROM THIS WEBSITE IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY AND YOUR MONEY.
I agree with everyone on here. I signed up for 3 months and gave it a shot. Big scam... no dates... and decided to just let it run out. That part was my fault as I did t come here first to read the reviews. But alas! My subscription didn't run out because they decided I wanted 3 more month and charged my card $68 WITHOUT my permission and renewed it at twice the cost others are paying. Why am I surprised?! Understand this - when a company provides a reputable service they have no need to put unethical business practices in place... like forcing your renewal and stealing your money. I would bet half the profits this company makes is forced renewals combined with their policy that they will NOT EVER refund your money. EVER. They couldn't care less if you had a terrible experience. Or if you wanted to renew it. It's about stealing money and calling yourself a "business" - this company is about as unreputable as they come. POF has a lot of not-so-desirable people on it but at least it can be used for free and it appears all the people are real. Stay away from Match and thank me later!
Actually met more people here than anywhere else but, ALL HAD MORE BAGAGE then normal; people, Yeah whats Normal?(im not one to Judge..., just another broken hearts club web site to maybe make you feel better, You can do alot worse, this ones ok
Answer: I was unable to get a refund but I dispute the transaction and got my money back that way. I said it was because they were not providing the service they claim to offer. If you can dispute with your bank just tell them you didn't authorize the transaction and the company refuses to refund you. Good luck.
Answer: No I would not trust it. There are scammers on there. They will tell you want you want to here. They are from another country. Look for key words such as widoer, contractor, travel, one child only. They will compliment you right off the bat about your smile. Not safe. Try another site.
Answer: Back in the 1980s, strip clubs were pulling all sorts of over charge and fake charge scams and forcing people tp pay. Here in Atlanta a majpr federal case against the GOLD CLUB brought all that to light and alot of changes were made in the industry... I BRING THAT UP BECAUSE... these social sites seem to be attempting the same types of scams and are getting away with it. By U.S. fedeal standars ALL THESE SITES FALL UNDER THE RACKETEERING STATUTE. Unfortunately there is NO enforcement of these laws at this time. Your best option is to dispute the entire charge with your credit card. They may not want to do this because they are seeing so much of it. BE FIRM AND INSIST IT IS A MATTER OF CREDIT FRAUD. Also be sure to indicate that you are filling a consumer notice with the Federal Trade Commision (they have online forms for this to keep a numbers count on how many people are affected by these sorts of things. www.FTC.org). If you have been a good card holder, you shouldnt have any issues except for 1: ALL THESE SITES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR REBILLING/DRAFTING YOUR CREDIT ACCOUNT. You may want to file a COMPROMISED CREDIT CARD CLAIM AT THE TIME OF THE DISPUTE and have your card issuer SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT CARD WITH A NEW CARD NUMBER.
Answer: You will have a hard time getting your money back Terri. The first time I was with them years ago, I forgot the auto renewal and tried to get my money back and they fought me tooth and nail. This time I tried both Ourtime and Match and both experiences were not good though Ourtime was a bit better. I agree with some of the answers here that Match baits you toward the end of your subscription with possible contacts, but since I cannot proof that I have to add that disclaimer. Everything you have run into with your experience I have had with mine.
Answer: You likely signed up for auto-renewal, which Match.com doesn't explicitly tell you out-right that it will auto-renew. You will not likely get a refund back for the month they charged you. However, go to your account's settings and cancel the feature ASAP. You will still have access for the month in question, but at least you will have stopped future withdrawals.
Answer: Give them a call... they always have something to scam people about...
Answer: Cancel the card you used when you joined.
Answer: That is an extra fare item and they charge you each time. Best to do your own searches and replies...
Answer: Too much don't do it!
Answer: I feel the same way Teresa, i have been on the site for 1 year now and cancelled my subscription, but was told it won't officially cancel until May because i waited to late after my initial sign up day, so i got stuck with another year. I am a handsome guy with a lot to offer, but for some reason never really got emails as i expected, i started to think the people profiles were fake or the women i was interested in didn't know a good man if his profiled slapped them in the face, just sayN. 41, recently divorced for little over a year, highly educated, working in my profession, make close to six figures, single, don't cheat, great personality, smart, don't play, and real down to earth... but i guess no one believed it or didn't like my handsome picks... IDK. Confused!
Match.com exhibits a polarized reputation among its users, with significant concerns overshadowing its strengths. Positive feedback highlights the site's potential for connecting users, particularly for younger demographics, and its broad user base. However, a predominant sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with customer service, marked by unresponsive support, unjust account terminations, and perceived deceptive practices regarding subscription fees. Many users report frustrations over a lack of transparency and the prevalence of fake profiles, leading to a sense of mistrust. Overall, while Match.com offers opportunities for connections, its customer service and business practices warrant serious scrutiny.
