This site has been a useful tool for me to meet people I wouldn't normally run into. I've gone on about 5 or 6 dates with people from match and they all looked exactly as they posted. They were also genuine in that they're personalities were pretty much as they were described. I never really ended up clicking with any of them, but that's not any different than regular dating. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I'm not sure what people are talking about with "fake winks" or scam artists. It might just be that they have low self esteem and dismiss a wake as being real. I can personally say I've never seen a fake profile on match, and quite frankly they have such a huge number of subscribers that it would be a waste of their time and money to do so. Most of the people that complain about this site would complain about any dating site. Put another way, if you aren't someone people would like to date going on a dating website won't change that.
Match is great for searching for what you really want and being able to preview a person before you make any contact. I also tried eharmony and I didn't really like that site. They would match me with a few people that I really had no interest in. That is where I think match has an advantage in that it allows the user to customize the site to the way they want it to be.
More and more advertisements - all match.com cares about is match.com itself, and the money it receives from its paying members - it clearly doesn't care about the members themselves
I bought six months and got one message, I messaged her back and never got a response. I got another six months free with nothing happening. Waste of money.
Automatic renewals with no warning. No choice of disputing the charge with them. No luck changing from a 6 month to a 1 month subscription. No communication with them whatsoever.
Crappy experience. Signed up on the site, spent half an evening filling in account info, looking for appropriate pics to upload etc, paid for a 3 month subscription plan straight up ($70) - only to find out in the morning that my account had been blocked. I reached out to customer service, who told me that it would be best for the match.com community to eliminate my profile - and they referred me to the terms of use, so I would work out myself what I had done wrong. I reread the stupid rules again, unable to understand why I was charged and blocked. Customer service told me this time that there are plenty of scammers on match.com from my part of the world (eastern europe) and that's why it's in the best interests of the "community" to keep me out. Why the f*** charge me and let me register in the first place? I asked specifically which provision of the terms of use i violated - and was told that i need to hire a legal rep in order to sort this out. I was one very angry and helpless ukrainain girl. So, i was refused a refund - but the money - thank god - was returned to my bank account in a couple of days. Never ever am i doing this internet thing again.
It is a total fraud! Absolutely! They take your money without you noticing. They won't even warn you when you hide your profile. It is indeed a fraud!
Don't understand all the 1star reviews. Match is not a bad dating site. It is clean, easy to use and simple and has a large member base. I was just not really happy and lucky with it...
Hi,
CAUTION! match.com STEALS YOUR MONEY AND ACCESS YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WITHOUT INFORMING YOU
I've joined match.com 7 months ago ( i paid £137 in total to use some of the website services), it was really bad experience and really disappointing for this amount of money, so i gave up visiting the website after a couple of weeks.
After 6 month i've been charged £137 for subscription renewal without informing me
And i wouldn't know if i didn't check my bank statement
When i contacted the website to refund my money, they refused
That's clearly STEALING MONEY
I didn't like the website, i didn't like the services, i didn't visit the website for few months and after all that they stole my money from my bank card under the name of ( AUTOMATIC SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL)
THANKS
I think you can probably make dates on Match.com, and get scammed by other users, but that wasn't my issue. My problems with Match.com have to do with their business model and customer service. I got charged for a second 6th month "subscription" with no warning (ever other business I've ever worked with emails or informs you before a charge is made) and I immediately called to figure it out. No answer, they don't answer calls during "non business hours". I try to email on my phone. If I use certain words, such as "refund", the SEND button grays out and won't let me push it. I can only send a vague email and never received a reply. When I did get in contact with a customer service representative, I was told that they don't refund, when I pressed, she told me she could do an exception and do a partial refund. And then that if I didn't accept it then, the refund would decrease when I called back. Wait, how does that work? You are telling me you are making an exception to the rule, but when I call back the exception would stand? How can they justify charging people for 6th months and not issuing a refund but cancelling the subscription? Or charging without warning? The whole situation is absurd.
Whoever you are with, dating site-wise, please be careful. I just read this on yahoo:
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/match-com-attacker-guilty-raping-five-women-*******.html
This is a scam website, please stay away from match.com
Band rubbers'
--------un faux site----
Ne vous attardez pas la dessus. Faux profile et trop cher
Don't sign up with Match.com. It will cost you hunderds per year for something that other sites honestly do better anyway. They will automatically bill your credit card every 6 months without any notification (because they buried their subscription renewal policy deep inside the terms and agreement when you sign up--even for a free trial). There was no control in the mobile application that I could find to turn off the auto-renewal either. I called to tell them not to automatically renew 6 months ago and yet it's happened again. When I received the credit charge, I called again to request a refund and full cancellation. They sent me a cancelation confirmation email this time but refused the refund because I'd "receieved an email" on the account.
So I've now paid for another 6 months of a service I do not want and will not receive. Even the supervisor refused to issue a refund (although they were happy to offer me a "discount" if I didn't cancel the account). They can't seem to grasp that I cancelled specifically because of their shady billing practices and poor customer service. When I asked the supervisor how he feels about conducting that kind of business practice and model, his answer was "I feel pretty good."
I don't trust them to cancel the subscription. I'll be blocking all future transactions through my bank. Your best bet is to never give them your banking information to begin with.
I took out a few months subscription as felt it offered good privacy (pay to view) and was interested in the whole online dating. I had a few chats (good/bad as expect) but ultimately felt I wanted to take the more natural approach and find someone when I do. There are high number of member with a real variety of people so always a chance of finding a 'match' (sorry). The profile seems to be well laid out and you receive 6 profiles a day which are usually within 50 miles radius or so. I have found that since I decided not to renew my profile I had recieved more views and winks, making me feel my profile is in likelier place of view to maybe tempt me into taking another subscription out? Anyways, if your happy to pay quite steep prices (£30p/m - £70-90 for 6mnth, also few deals.) and feel could gain from it positively then it's an experience and you may find a person on there who is real suited to yourself! Guess my best tip if a straight male, usually it will be you sending the first message, try and be creative and ask a nice question or two as it should increase chance of reply. First review done! :)
COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS CRAP. BEEN PAID SUBSCRIBER BARELY A WEEK AND I HATE IT. HAD LOTS OF ISSUES WITH THE SITE. WHEN I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SUPPORT I TALKED TO RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE. TALKING TO EACH ONE ONLY MADE ME WANT MY MONEY BACK. I ASKED FOR REFUND, AND WAS TOLD THAT WASN'T POSSIBLE. CALLING BETTER BUSISNESS BEAURO (SPELLED WRONG, I KNOW) IN THE MORNING.
I have been on match.com for 2 days (I know not very long) but when I first got on, I had email notifications and winks etc. It would not allow me to look unless I subscribed, so my being the marshmello I am I did. I have gotten over 100 profile views in less than 48 hrs, 6 winks, 8 they are intersted, and 12 photo likes. So I'm thinking pretty good stuff, let's send some personalized emails. I have sent 18 emails, all with personal messages about each person, and I'll be damned. Not a single response. I will admit not all have opened the email yet, but the best looking ones did and didn'r even respond. What gets me, is two of them liked my photo's, and one was interested. I am not Patrick Swazye or Ryan Gosling, but I am a solid 7-8. Tall, athletic build. Why am I not getting any responses, and why are the girls that email me and wink at me totally what I'm not looking for. I am holding out hope, but as of now I think it has been a complete waste of money and time. It also sent me an email stating I had 24 new matches, yet I cant see them in my daily matches...
At first I thought I was accepting a discounted membership for a subscription. I quickly learned my membership which I had every intention of cancelling was extended. ($96 total) I called customer service and was told "Subscription fees are NON refundable!" WHAT? VERY SHADY! I asked to speak to a supervisor... no surprise... non available! It seems Marlene, Eralis and Sharalyn were all on break together? I'm then told to call back within 45 minutes? Play phone tag... or whatever because Match.Com doesn't return calls. Then after waiting on hold... I'm told I'll get a partial refund. So, in other words my elevated BP could probably been avoided? All the rep had to do was provide GOOD customer service. Gee... is that so hard? Now I have to spend more of my valuable time trying to get my hard earned money back... that was so underhandedly stolen from me. Not to mention the time it will take on social media to make other innocent customer aware of the shady tactics MATCH.COM uses. THANKS A LOT MATCH.COM for the trickery and horrible customer service.
If anyone knows what part of this is free, by all means, let me know. It's free to put your name in and that's about it, and then start asking for your credit card information. Right after I signed up, I started looking at my watch. 23 seconds. 16 matches in my zip code. I can't blow my nose that fast! Shortly after that, my email inbox was doing the Jane Fonda workout. 12 messages in less than an hour trying to upgrade me to a paid account and more matches in my zip code. The only problem is that my zip code is a post office box. Suddenly, all these girls are from the same one? When these clowns realized that it wasn't a delivery code, I started getting matches from all surrounding towns and postal codes. Most of the messages had the names of the towns spelled wrong. Who doesn't know how to spell where they live? Half of the pictures had things in the background that aren't local or anywhere in the area. Yosemite Park? Statue of liberty? Not in my neighborhood. It makes no difference because all they want is to shake you upside down for money and have a nice day trying to get rid of them, because they'll empty the excuse book on you as to why they can't unsubscribe you. It's best to steer around these dopes for your own good because the only thing they're trying match is your money with their pockets.
Watch out for ROBERTS JAMES FOSKEY He took no money from me but after research found out he took money from ladies that could not afford it. Destroying lives of women. Im tough and did not feed into the crap. Thick accent some were from Africa. Another one is ERIC WEISER, has a bit of a Irish acent but says he's native American. Scammers.
I think match.com used to be a quality online dating site, but the only difference between match.com and the free sites like POF and smooch, is the fact that they charge a monthly fee. I left the free sites because I was fed up with men approaching me for "hookups" (free sex, basically) and sex chat. After a number of approaches of this kind, I tried to update my profile to clarify that this was something that I was not interested in. However, they kept rejecting my update suggesting that it wasn't "in keeping" with their ethos... but it was OK for me to be harassed. In addition, I've only been on the site for 2 and a bit months I've reported 3 fraudsters of the Nigerian kind. I gave them several examples of why I thought they were bogus sites (some so obvious it was laughable), but I notice that their profile areally still online.
I've tried to make two complaints and all I get is an automated reply, which bares no relation to my original question.
People wink at you or favourite, but don't reply when you initiate conversation... I found out that this was because either they hadn't upgraded their account, or they'd pressed the 'wink/favourite' tab by accident, which is easily done as I've done it.
This site come across as unprofessional. And now just as sleazy as some of the free sites.
" Wanna hear a Joke? First, here's the "Punchline": "Match.com"! Are you laughing has much has I am? Hey, just Kidding you. ( I must be Stoned). No, really. Guess what happened to me on there? You see, I was scrolling down all the "Good" reviews of it here, ( I must have bumped my Head), and I decided, "Hey, why not give this Fantastic dating website a try"?. ( Damn, this is some good Smoke), and I went to open a Profile there. ( Crappers, the Room's darkened and Spinning). But WAIT! There's far more to this then meets the Mortal Eye. I NEVER EVER posted ANY profiles there! ( Damn, Dude. This is getting better all the time). What I did was simply enter my email address, placed a totally Fictional password, then sat quietly back to enjoy the "Fireworks". BAM! BAM! BAM! I had gotten exactly 78 emails saying the Women on there absolutely LOVED my "Profile"! These emails rolled in in just 3 days. Yes. You read that right. 78. In just 3 days. Funny. I NEVER EVER POSTED A PROFILE! Just put in my email address! These emails where actually saying Crap like, "She likes you", and "your a Match". Guess what? They're all Women above thw Age of 65 and 70 yrs Old. I live a much younger lifestyle and I live as though I am still in my early to middle 30's. What a SCAM! Damn, I feel so sorry for those of you who've lost loved "Ones". I mean, lost loved "100's". Read my lips. NO NEW MATCHES...
Answer: I was unable to get a refund but I dispute the transaction and got my money back that way. I said it was because they were not providing the service they claim to offer. If you can dispute with your bank just tell them you didn't authorize the transaction and the company refuses to refund you. Good luck.
Answer: No I would not trust it. There are scammers on there. They will tell you want you want to here. They are from another country. Look for key words such as widoer, contractor, travel, one child only. They will compliment you right off the bat about your smile. Not safe. Try another site.
Answer: Back in the 1980s, strip clubs were pulling all sorts of over charge and fake charge scams and forcing people tp pay. Here in Atlanta a majpr federal case against the GOLD CLUB brought all that to light and alot of changes were made in the industry... I BRING THAT UP BECAUSE... these social sites seem to be attempting the same types of scams and are getting away with it. By U.S. fedeal standars ALL THESE SITES FALL UNDER THE RACKETEERING STATUTE. Unfortunately there is NO enforcement of these laws at this time. Your best option is to dispute the entire charge with your credit card. They may not want to do this because they are seeing so much of it. BE FIRM AND INSIST IT IS A MATTER OF CREDIT FRAUD. Also be sure to indicate that you are filling a consumer notice with the Federal Trade Commision (they have online forms for this to keep a numbers count on how many people are affected by these sorts of things. www.FTC.org). If you have been a good card holder, you shouldnt have any issues except for 1: ALL THESE SITES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR REBILLING/DRAFTING YOUR CREDIT ACCOUNT. You may want to file a COMPROMISED CREDIT CARD CLAIM AT THE TIME OF THE DISPUTE and have your card issuer SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT CARD WITH A NEW CARD NUMBER.
Answer: You will have a hard time getting your money back Terri. The first time I was with them years ago, I forgot the auto renewal and tried to get my money back and they fought me tooth and nail. This time I tried both Ourtime and Match and both experiences were not good though Ourtime was a bit better. I agree with some of the answers here that Match baits you toward the end of your subscription with possible contacts, but since I cannot proof that I have to add that disclaimer. Everything you have run into with your experience I have had with mine.
Answer: You likely signed up for auto-renewal, which Match.com doesn't explicitly tell you out-right that it will auto-renew. You will not likely get a refund back for the month they charged you. However, go to your account's settings and cancel the feature ASAP. You will still have access for the month in question, but at least you will have stopped future withdrawals.
Answer: Give them a call... they always have something to scam people about...
Answer: Cancel the card you used when you joined.
Answer: That is an extra fare item and they charge you each time. Best to do your own searches and replies...
Answer: Too much don't do it!
Answer: I feel the same way Teresa, i have been on the site for 1 year now and cancelled my subscription, but was told it won't officially cancel until May because i waited to late after my initial sign up day, so i got stuck with another year. I am a handsome guy with a lot to offer, but for some reason never really got emails as i expected, i started to think the people profiles were fake or the women i was interested in didn't know a good man if his profiled slapped them in the face, just sayN. 41, recently divorced for little over a year, highly educated, working in my profession, make close to six figures, single, don't cheat, great personality, smart, don't play, and real down to earth... but i guess no one believed it or didn't like my handsome picks... IDK. Confused!
