I knew MapQuest back in the early days of the internet. It was a vital, useful tool for the user.
Today I returned to it for the first time, hoping to find a reasonable alternative to Google Maps or Bing.
It was extremely exasperating. Does anybody at MapQuest have a vision of who the user is, or what she/he wants? Or is everybody just deeply committed to the tinkering/tweaking side of the company? And to whom are you pandering your product?
When I want to browse around in the streets around NYC's Morningside Heights and Columbia University area, I want the app to stay at the zoom level that works for me, not to keep snapping back out to a continent-wide view centered on Kansas, snapping to what some marketing type thinks will create maximum clicks so that you can show your clients how effective you are at catching eyeballs. And I want some recognizable controls, or Settings pages.
The worst for me is the absence of user-friendly navigation aids, thoughtfully-positioned prompts, that sort of thing.
I want to tell your eyeball-counting clients that they should demand a shake-up in your approach to serving the needs of your users, however many users there might be after this large mistake.
If you have a business vision and a business model, and that seems doubtful, you might want to appeal to your remaining users by posting that vision for everyone to see. Then hire some real management who know the web market and have the technical savvy to bring about some re-healing of MapQuest... some people who will dedicate themselves and their teams to making MapQuest a world-class enterprise.
Meanwhile, I'm going back to the other guys' sites.
Mapquest will not remove an incorrect phone number listed for my business unless we agree to make a monthly payment to them. Boycott Mapquest!
There were so many ads on the MapQuest site, I could not use it to get directions. I am deleting this shortcut, and will never use it again!
I am tired of fooling around trying to properly navigate the NEW mapquest.
Horrible, just horrible
I would give it 0 stars
When you book a flight on Mapquest be aware that it is really Priceline.com. There is no mention of Priceline anywhere which is dishonest and cheating. I wanted to reward Mapquest for all the assistance over the years and used their flight link. It was only when I discovered a problem with the flight and phoned to inquire, that I discovered it was Priceline. This is extremely deceptive. The Mapquest flight site at http :// bookings. Mapquest. Com/home/? Refid=5101&refclickid=wnstn-navbar&icid=mqinad_ota&utm_medium=inad&utm_source=winston%7Cnavbar&utm_campaign=new-ribbon&utm_term=Hotels%20Flights%20Rental%20Cars does not state Priceline anywhere. This should be illegal.
Fire the incompetents that tried to fix something that was not broken.
Go back to original Mapquest that people like and were able to use.
PERIOD
I would use mapquest in the past with little problem but I must have had ad block, without an ad block program it's an $#*! sore.
I click on avoid tolls and when it goes to print out it switches to the shortest route even if there are tolls in it.
What happened to Mapquest. I can't even get on it anymore. It used to be so good. Now I will be trying another site.
I drive for a living and I loved the old mapquest. The new mapquest is a joke. I won't use this site any longer.
If you miss mapquest classic, go to yahoo maps. It works like the mapquest classic site, I hate the new mapquest.
Keeps showing map of North America, pushing Holiday Inn, won't give directions within tristate area. Product now utterly useless!
I wish all my doctors were like Dr. Muller. She's a great communicator, educator and just plain nice.
Pastor Scott Wendal and the members at Valley Forge accepted my family in and have made us a part of the family. The most caring church I know
Mapquest new site sucks $#*! and is impossible to use.
I got very clear, printable maps, driving directions, addresses of businesses, and much more
