L.L.Bean, founded in 1912 and headquartered in Freeport, Maine, is a renowned American retailer that specializes in outdoor and recreational gear, clothing, and homeware. Known for its L.L.Bean Boot and commitment to quality, the company serves a loyal customer base globally through e-commerce and strategic retail partnerships.
L.L. Bean has a rating of 2.1 stars from 579 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with L.L. Bean most frequently mention customer service, credit card and return policy. L.L. Bean ranks 74th among Outdoor Clothing sites.
The customer service is good but be forewarned re: the customer product reviews on the company's website - the company does NOT publish negative reviews about products unless you also say something positive about the customer service, etc. While boots, outerwear and gear are still good quality, the overall quality of their clothing has declined since they started importing most of it several years ago - I have 8-9 year old wool sweaters from them that are still going strong, while I only got a season or 2 of wear out other more recently-purchased sweaters from them.
I needed XL dog bed plastic liners for a $250.00 dog bed that they sell and the customer service rep was absolutely useless in helping me find dog bed plastic liners. You would think that if they were an American company that they could actually make you a dog bed plastic liner. I think all L. L. Beans products are made in China and or other countries and then they charge you a very high price for their products. I also had to wait on the phone for 30 minutes, and then customer service rep for L. L. Bean did nothing to help me find plastic dog bed covers for my two dogs. Crappy customer service from L. L. Bean..
LL Bean has a looong history and rep of peddling overpriced junk easily purchased on chinese wholesale sites for pennies on the dollar. Found more than a few of those items on the wholesale sites while LLB makes it look as though their merchandise is US-made. Not so big-time.
This is one of my go-to websites for kids clothes: pj's, comfy pants and shirts for school, swimsuits, etc. The clothes are sturdy and cute. The return process has always gone smoothly- and we've had to return quite a bit since my kids are picky.
We have purchased several items from L. L. Bean due to their reputation of quality. However, when we wanted to return a shirt due to poor fit, it cost $6.50 to return it. I think we will stick with stores that do offer free returns.
I placed an order on January 4th and as of a week later the order is still "In Progress" I contacted Customer Service via their Online chat and they told me it was still "In Progress" with no further information. How is it they can't tell you when it is going to ship. This is unacceptable. I won't order from them again! If I could rate them a "Zero" I could!
Bought clothing and waterhog mats over at least 20 years. Virtually every purchase was perfect. One purchase wasn't (size grossly off despite phone consultation) which they took back without a question.
RE: Repair Dept faux pas - I called to inquire if my husband's LLBEAN leather slippers, the soles could be repaired. Staff stated "YES certainly we can repair just send them to us".
Three weeks post mailing, I received a call from Repair stating, "NO, we cannot repair the soles because the slippers were made in El Salvador... Cheap materials? SERVICE WHAT YOU SELL! Staff Apologized up and down for this impertinent information not shared with me, lotta good that did. My time and money wasted; $12 for postage, driving to/from Post Office, waiting in line... I purchased LLBEAN items for over 50 years and family before me. P A T H E T I C Sayonara!
CANADIANS: Do not order from here. It says you are on LL Bean Canada site but they still charge a large amount of Duty and tax, and then charge you the American $ exchange rate. So annoying, I even asked the customer service rep on the phone. 2 pairs of shoes that were $25 each ended up costing me almost $80! Bad representation of what the site has to offer for shipping, availability to Canada etc.
I buy a lot of shirts for my dad and t shirts for me and I am very happy with the quality and free shipping, however the sizing in the woman pants is totally off and you have to pay return shipping, I do not like that.
I have worn out 2 lined hoodies over the years. I just purchased another. When you can compare an older product to a new one the difference in quality is easy to see. The weight is much lighter, the cotton count is lower. The sleeves are no longer lined. LL Bean has traditionally been known of functional active wear. This hoodie looks good but I can tell it will not be as warm or durable as the older version. Why is it that companies manufacturing this type of clothing pay little attention to their actual purpose? This hoodie is supposed to keep you warm, keep the chill out. It looks good but won't provide any protection against the weather. Poorly done LL Bean!
Llbean is gone. This imposter of llbean is selling lowest quality. Coat was a bit over 1 year doesn't fit anymore. Got a new one same size big difference, they wouldn't exchange it so now they will get their poor quality thing back.no more bean for me
I wrote a review on their fitness skorts. It wouldn't accept my nickname, When I changed it 10 times to crazy things I was still not accepted. I guess that is how they filter out bad review... Not fair practice. The skorts I have purchased year after year ( I have bought over 15 in the past) have now changed. They are made of cheaper fabric and the shorts under will be stretching out of shape. The actual skirt part is also so loose they tend to fall off. I have worn the same size for years as well so they should fit perfectly. Shame on you! If you buy they same product that they sell online. Buyer beware!
Company lies with their return policy: refuses to exchange unwearable jacket, less than 3mos old. It's ruined shirts, seatbelts, and my babies by shedding in a manner that is absolutely unrepairable and the fibers cannot be removed even in great light with tweezers from my shirts. L.L.Bean calls it "normal wear and tear", refusing to honor their exchange policy for a $100 jacket that is unwearable now. All customer service agents said send it in, we'll exchange it! But when I did, the agent I spoke with was so rude, telling me I ruined it, I cried. How did I ruin it? I stay home with my boys, leaving the house one day a week to go to the grocery store? I know how to wash clothes and am carefully diligent... Cannot endorse $100 for less than 3mos.
Today it is freezing rain with a slick layer of ice and rain on top of it... the worst walking conditions possible... unless you own a pair of arctic grip boots. These boots are amazing. They won't slide even if you try to make them slide. We can't drive in this but we can walk in our arctic grip boots. Thsnk you LL BEAN. You truly are the best.
I never bought anything at an elite store like LLBean before, but as a Trump supporter thought that I should after them leftists were gonna boycott the store because that rich lady who owns the company called them names. I'm kinda disappointed now that I looked at their catalog because they didn't have any wife-beaters or confederate flag shirts like the kind I usually buy from my usual haberdashery. I couldn't believe them prices either. Who would pay that much for a pair of jeans or a shirt? If I had that much money, I would use it to go see the race in Bristol this year. I'll still buy something, but now the other store that I buy from will lose money. I think I screwed my self over.
I've been happy with every purchase, every product, and every interaction with LL Bean. They are the only company I purchase some specific basic items from - like the slacks I wear to work and the solid color three quarter sleeve tops I wear for layering. They are my favorite on-line retailer.
I ordered slippers that did not fit even though I ordered my size. I returned them for a refund. I did get my refund minus 6.50 for shipping. They waive that IF you have their credit card. That policy has made it so I will not ever purchase online with them $6.50 loss for me when something does not fit. I was penalized because of sizing?
Contacted Bean on behalf of my wife to request a refund of the $151.30 credit balance in her Bean Mastercard account. The customer service rep said she couldn't do it because I wasn't listed as an authorized person on the account. My wife has late stage cancer and is unlikely to live beyond this month. She spends most of her time asleep, confused, or incoherent. I further pointed out that the check would be made out to her, not me. And... nothing. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want to give your business to a company like this.
Update: LL Bean has refunded my shipping costs after I complained. I'm upping my review to 3 stars as a result.
I got only half of my order and they left me waiting for the other half. I had to ask before they told me that the company they hired couldn't find my address for the second half of my order (the same address that they already delivered to). This Christmas gift will probably be late now.
Then instead of trying to make things right, they refunded my purchase and told me to reorder it again if I still wanted it. This means that I lose my free shipping because my $110 order is now only $55. I am not happy with this level of customer service. I would not recommend shopping here.
The problem seems to be more about the shipping companies they use then the company themselves. STOP USING SPRINTSTAR to deliver your packages. They are obviously not competent and will continue to tarnish your company's name.
Answer: Nope. But I have heard the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's Gorilla album and it's my fav.
Answer: Fairly easy to get a CS rep via chat or phone but they aren't as conscientious as they once were and seem to use a lot of canned responses.
Answer: If you don't get results from one customer service representative, ask to speak to a supervisor. I emailed my question in and had a quick response and exceptional service. Had I not, I certainty would have gone up the chain of command.
