Stay away bought 2 living social adventures I called before I booked and asked if my ten year old could go they said he could the fine print said 60lb-250lbs for the ziplining.
We could go on the mid mountain tour. We get to the bus and they tell me I can't board since my son is under 18 and they are sorry that is their insurance policy. They told me they would issue me a refund. Lies and more Lies they won't credit me and customer service is non existent. Not sure how they stay in business. Never Again stay away

I bought a "deal" for a trip. After they had debited my card, LS says it will take two weeks to get vouchers. So, trip goes by, no vouchers for "deal" and I am out $150. Never again! Do not trust this site! Their "fine print" often renders the "deal" worthless.

I am disappointed with the way they handled my complaints re: MIU BLU 2 ct fake diamond earrings I purchased back in March (it was supposedly to be used for my vacation). They have debited the amount that very day, until now, I still haven't seen the earring. I emailed and called LS, they gave me the merchant email that doesn't work, and a tel. No. That doesn't work. I expect them to be able to have contact with their participating merchants but it seems like they don't. I am no longer interested in the item, I just want my money back. I'd rather stick with Groupon, at least they are honest to deal with.

TWICE now I've been scammed by them. They offer illegitimate deals and then when I tried to contact customer service they were extremely rude and unhelpful and ultimately did nothing and never contacted me again (like they assured me they would). I am extremely disappointed in this site and will never use them again for anything.

Yes, I've lost out on some deals by not using them in time, but that was my own fault. Yes, I've gotten a product WAY late or that wasn't the best quality, but again- I didn't do my job by researching the company I was ordering from. The only time I've ever had to call customer service was when I bought a spa package for a trip and when I called to book appointments found out they were booked for the entire time I'd be in town. I immediately called Living Social and they immediately refunded it. Ever since then I've learned my lesson; I read the fine print, know the dates, and go to the company's site to make sure they have in stock what I want before I buy the voucher. I'd suggest all of you do the same, and don't be so quick to blame Living Social for allowing a business to utilize their name.

While the idea behind the site is a great one, the execution lacks on many levels. It is awesome to get great deals on products and try new services but ultimately the offerings end up being sub-par and ultimately you wouldn't pay money for the like in any other situation.

If you are in need of a service or product and are looking simply to save money, I would recommend using Livingsocial. If you have a service provider or product in mind that you know delivers quality and can afford it, choose that option.

I have done business with LS both on the consumer side and the merchant side. First... on the consumer side. The purchases I made always was not as "glamorous" as they publicize it to be. Because they use stock photos services, you never really know what the establishment looks like. They should put a photo of the establishment instead. Hey... I know what they are doing, I am a marketer. But online stuff you need to see for real. Otherwise it's deceiving.

Ok, now on the merchant side. They were very aggressive in getting my business. And once it was done, never heard back from them.

I now don't really do business with them at all.

SUCKS
April 15, 2013

SUCKS. Most of the stuff on here is crap nobody wants. The one fitness class I bought on here was so over-booked, I had to wait a few months before I could redeem. The endless emails of things I was never gonna buy got annoying. I unsubscribed.

I too would like to strongly advise potential bargain hunters not to deal with this company. I was a loyal customer and had purchased from them in the past but I will never purchase from them again. On the last occasion, I purchased unoriginal razor blades: I bought 2 vouchers for €20 each in the middle of February. To redeem the vouchers, I also had to pay a further €9.54 for P&P.
After several weeks and no sign of my package, I contacted their (so called!) customer service section and was promised a call-back: it never happened and after a number of other calls I was eventually paid back the original €40. However, they wanted nothing to do with the extra P&P I paid and told me that I would have to chase the other company myself. I found them very unhelpful and in some instances very rude. The other company was not contactable by phone and did not respond to any emails they were sent. Their name is Trending Picks and they have a hostile following of customers complaining on their Facebook site.
I personally suspect that a lot of people (over 3,000 bought this product and none of them received it) would not bother chasing the P&P and would be relieved to get a refund. That's a lot of money if (as I suspect) this is a scam! Do the maths!
I note that they lost over $600 million in 2012. This would be a great way to boost their profit margins.
Do not deal with this company: they are not an honest company and in time they will fail.
Sincerely,

Dr. G (Dublin, Ireland)

Most of these "deals" are just scams. Either items are marked up to make the deal look better, the deals are available with or without the website, or they are useless.

Living Social fails to disclose terms of limitation and thus, defrauds customers of refunds or credits or fails to disclose which is misrepresentation, fraud or deceit within the meaning of the law. While the purchase gives you a voucher for a merchant, the "paid value" = the money you spent, has no definition. Living Social fails to define "paid values" or that they are limited to redemption, solely and exclusively at & with the merchant. Even tho the money is paid to Living Social, the limitation excludes the buyer\consumer from a refund or credit by "terms" - problem is there is no term that says that. Plus, the "terms & conditions" is 18 pages long - at count 22, Living Social can make changes without notice. A Federal Court case which states where internet terms of use or purchase can be unilaterally altered by the seller [Zappos case] the contract is non-existent, unenforceable and "illusory" - in legal language translated, the contract is not a contract at all - only looks like one. So the term "paid value" is not defined; failure to disclose is false, deceptive & misleading and even if something in the terms said that "paid value" was solely and exclusively valid only at the merchant, the terms are invalid and the "agreement" is invalid - void from its inception. Living Social doesn't care and believes there are no remedies available to the Consumer other than arbitration - well, that clause is invalid, too. So if you've got a complaint, sue them in small claims court in your state - the arbitration clause is invalid per: In re Zappos.com Inc., Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, 2012 WL ******* (D. Nev. Sept. 27,2012)

Worst customer service. Purchased a atv tour in Hawaii, at a ranch. I'be been trying to reach that ranch for 3 days, and eventually someone answered the call, telling me cannot take me to a atv ride which I paid for because "they don't make money, do I want them to make money" said the owner of Pa'ani Ranch in Big Island, HI. They refused starting their aATV because no other tourists signed up in that week frame I asked to be scheduled, and told me to be reimbursed by livingsocial because they cannot help me. So what is the criteria livingsocial gets the companies they work with? Is this a SCAM? When I contact livingsocial they said they cannot refund me the money but suggest to try back with the ranch, because they agreed to accept my voucher. Let me tell you, I am from NY and the voucher is good in Hawaii- how idiotic you can be to assume I can fly over 5k miles to get turn away. I am done with them, but BBB should keep an eye on this company. It won't last if they continue with this way of taking money from people's accounts without fulfilling their commitment. SHAME living social, SHAME!

After buying a voucher for two shirts, they had no shirts in my size (43 which is not uncommon). Rang well before the end of the expiry and they said they would organise a refund and someone to call me back. Did not get a call back. I rang them back and they said they would only provide credit. I have rung and asked them to manager three times and I never get a call back. Continuing to refuse a refund. Avoid them at all costs!

Stay away! This company is awful disrespectful and utterly POOR SERVICE! The company I got voucher from didn't pick their phone or answer emails and on making a complaint about this to Living Social I got the phone hung up on me, shouted at and then after I asked to speak to complaints department the insults continued. I then asked for a refund and they wont give it to me. There was no apology, no customer service just excuses excuses and sheer rudeness. AVOID and check the companies they put on the site as a lot of them are not established and may not be as qualifies or professional as they make our to be on the site.

They rescheduled the "dinner concert cruise" I had purchased (my very first purchase from Living Social) to a week after my original pick and when I tried to change it to another date that was good for me, they said I cannot because of their 7-day policy (apparently I called 5 days prior), and not only can I not get reschedule I cannot get a refund on my voucher as well... so I'm screwed coz I'm unable to make it to the date they rescheduled me to. The customer service person I spoke to (Edward) was also very unsympathetic. Very bad experience.

My voucher was mistakingly redeemed by the restaurant. Neither the restaurant nor Living Social would to anything to help me in a satisfactory manner.
The restaurant owner said that she would give me" the benefit of doubt "and honor my voucher for the face value but I would have to spend $75 at the restaurant (extra $37 in addition to the $38 voucher) because it has been expired while Living Social was "investigating" the matter. They don't have any system to varify the redeemer when something like this happens. I guess I'm a victim of either a fraud or mishandling of the voucher. One representative from Living Social said that it often happens by mistake made restaurants. They need a better system because I'm sure it's true.

Don't do it
April 6, 2013

Don't do it. They oversell and then the merchant can't deliver within a reasonable period of time. The merchant didn't even call back for 10 days to schedule, dezpite three phone calls, and then it was past LivingSocial's refund policy of seven days so they wouldn't provide a refund. Merchant could not provide service for two months. That's not reasonable nor is it the customer's burden to bear for overselling or inability to provide timely service.

This is the worst site ever... I bought a limo on there for 179, from comfortable transportation. On the day that i was suppose to get my ride the dude never showed he said that the voucher was good for 4 months i bought it in august and it was suppose to last through December however i was having an issue with the guy with the limo company. I called living social and asked could i have a refund and they told me no because the voucher was till valid and the limo business was not closed. The guy refused to take me on my ride and i told living social that, they still refused to give me my money back because they contacted the guy and he said he is willing to give me the ride. Long story short he never gave me ride and living social never returned my money period despite the problem that i was having with the guy... it was the worst experience ever...

From the business

LivingSocial is a leading "daily deal" site that sells discounted experiences and local services--restaurants, spa trips, home services, travel, etc.--via voucher. The consumer must pay for the voucher upfront, and the voucher generally must be used within a specified time period or it cannot be redeemed. To make these deals possible, LivingSocial sells merchants on its ability to help "find and keep more customers". LivingSocial is a private company based in Washington DC and its shareholders include Amazon.com.
