Terrible!
July 10, 2013

Terrible! There is no refund policy with living social, they refer you to the buyer but I had no response from mine after 4 emails. The living social customer service is terrible and ussless. Luckily only lost $25 and not a $$$$ escape deal! Stay away!

Love this site!
July 29, 2013

Love this site! I purchased a photo shoot in NYC. No problems. The photographer was great. I recently needed a refund on a purchase and it was a breeze! They said that my refund would be posted in 5 or so business days. It was in my account after two! Love Living Social.

Very nicely presented deals but ultimately I think they exploit the retailer. But most notably I have just had enough of the terrible customer service. This company isn't for the time pushed mum who tries to book coupons whilst doing other things and is prone to a minor mistake. Unable to remedy something that other companies would not think twice about. I would not use again - I have deactivated email subscriptions, they don't deserve your business, contact the retailer directly and they'll honour the same deal with more flexibility.

As has been mentioned repeatedly, the practices of this site border on (or cross the border) of fraud!

I received an e-mail for a portable bluetooth speaker that was priced at $ 24.95. The subject of the e-mail said "Portable Bluetooth Speaker + Use Promo Code FREEDOM to Take an Additional $10 Off"

When I tried to redeem the deal (almost immediately after receiving the e-mail) it didn't allow the promo code. When I contacted Living Social, they said it was because the promo code only applies if the item is $ 25 or more (despite the clear wording of the e-mail.) I replied to them, and the next reply said that the reason I couldn't get the deal was because it had expired.

Are they too stupid to read their own ads? Or is this deliberate, planned psuedo-ignorance?

I will never, never use them again. And I will be reporting them for false advertising.

Consumer Beware of this site! The other reviewers are right... they are a SCAM! I placed an order and when I put my credit card info in I couldn't get it to go forward no matter what I tried so the order never concluded. I exited and went back in and tried again & this time it accepted it. Little did I realize that they already placed it in my shopping basket until I checked out. As soon as I realized the mistake I e-mailed them (within a few minutes) and when I didn't hear back from them within about an hour I called their customer service line. Very "understanding" on the phone - Austen was his name. Received an e-mail from him saying "we're trying to see what we can do" in a couple of hours, but received a 2nd email a few hours later and said "oh, sorry nothing we can do". I have reported them to my credit card company and will be filing a credit card dispute. Visa tells me they will handle the dispute and go further if necessary. Hurray Visa, Boooooo Living Social! Stay away. Wish I'd read the reviews before I placed the order!

LivingSocial is nothing but a SCAM. They will sell you a voucher for a place (Food Fun Adventure-Austin, TX) that will make a reservation then cancel it for no reason. They will gladly sell you the same reservation for full price. You can't reach the vendor to talk to anyone. LivingSocial is unhelpful when you ask them to help get resolution. Closing my account as soon as I get a refund for the worthless voucher they sold me. JUST SAY NO TO LIVINGSOCIAL. FYI, I have not had an issue with Groupon nor Adealio.

Consumers Beware!
July 3, 2013

Consumers Beware! I have had multiple bad experiences with LivingSocial and will no longer be using their service. I would absolutely not recommend using them. There is a reason many of these deals seem too good to be true.

Recently I purchased a voucher for a hair service. I hadn't heard of the salon, but they had more than 10 positive reviews on Yelp so I figured it was a safe bet. After I purchased the voucher, I tried contacting the merchant more than a dozen times to set up the appointment via phone/email/text with no response. After a few weeks, I finally got a response and she booked me an appointment. When the day of the appointment came around, she cancelled on me via text and hasn't responded to any of my attempts to reschedule over the past two and a half weeks.

It has been more than a month and a half since I first attempted to schedule an appointment and the merchant doesn't even have the common courtesy to respond. I've dealt with vouchers where the merchant has been so overloaded that they can't book an appointment for a month or more, but I've never experienced a business that doesn't even respond to customers who pre-paid for a service and are trying to schedule an appointment.

During this time, I've been in contact with LivingSocial's customer service attempting to get my money refunded. It wasn't one of their cheaper vouchers or I probably would have let it go but the deal cost $129.

To respond to my emails, LivingSocial has sent me cut/paste generic responses that in no way address my situation. The only direct response I've had from them said it wasn't their policy to issue refunds and they're sorry but I was out of luck. When I responded to this, I got a message from a different customer service representative saying they couldn't find my account or any record of the voucher. REALLY?! When I responded with my account/voucher information, I got a generic response about what to do after your voucher expires.

LivingSocial is a nightmare to deal with and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Although we have purchased a few vouchers and have had no problems, all negative on this site about not vetting their vendors and no customer service we have now discovered is absolutely true.
We too were caught in a bait and switch with Automotive Sound and Protection in Conshocken, PA (a sureal experience in itself). When we called Living Social for a refund of our 109.00, we had the same experience as all on this site.
No interest whatsoever. Our interaction actually involved the local police-LS had no interest.
Living Social Customer Service is apparently located in a secret bunker in Tulsa, Arizona. No one can give their name (although do provide fake ID badges) for "safety" reasons. No one will provide an executive Customer Service representative.

In researching Living Social. It does APPEAR they have an agreement with www.adr.org for arbitration. There is a 200 filing fee for the customer, but in LS site, it says LS will cover all costs, filing fees... Adr said they should then cover the filing fee and their fee is 1500. 00 to go to Arbitration.

Living Social lists Corporation Service Company, 2711 Centerville Rd. Suite 400, Wilmington Delaware, ******* as their contact for arbitration. THe number listed is *******900.

We are filing with adr. We have a call in to Corporation Service.

Based on our experience these last 2 weeks, I am assuming this may be more of their scam.

Perhaps if all file, it could be costly.

Also plan to contact our local news ABC Consumer Investigator after seeing this is their standard operating procedure. Anyone in Phila are may want to do the same, maybe the negative exposure could get some refunds.

Definitely will not but any other vouchers from Living Social.

Will NEVER buy anything from Living Social again. Bought a photography session in April and the photographer is still jacking us around. And I asked Living Social in April (after the photographer wouldn't respond to my requests) to refund my money and they said "no". I called today and asked again because I have been trying to get this scheduled and it isn't getting done and Living Social is giving me the run around. Horrible! I will stick with Groupon!

I bought a voucher for a food tour and then had to contact the food tour company (Food Fun and Adventure) for reservations, I called and emailed them for at least 3 weeks and never got a response back, finally I got a hold of them and made my reservation for a month later. Then 3 days before the food tour we get an email saying it was cancelled. I am moving out of the state soon, tired and annoyed of trying to get a hold of these food tour people that are probably just scamming me so I tried getting a hold of living social and they said they cannot refund me. I sent them another email after that and then they just sent me the exact same email from before back. DO NOT SHOP HERE, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! They do not care if the voucher works or not and will not refund you after 7 days end of story.

Terrible
June 29, 2013

Terrible. They promote businesses which are offering cheap products for the reason that they already suck. Once you buy a coupon, it is a nightmare to make the appointment or ask for refund when it doesn't work for you. I have had 3 bad experiences and that's about as much as i can take.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!
June 26, 2013

AWFUL EXPERIENCE! I purchased a living social voucher for a local nail salon. The salon refused to honor it! When I complain to Living Social and ask for a refund, I'm told they don't do that. They were completely unhelpful and washed their hands of me as soon as they took my money. There is no accountablity and these companies can choose to honor the vouchers or not. I was told that it wasn't their problem and feel free to gift it to a friend if I no longer want it. I wouldn't "gift" this horrible, infuriating experience to anyone!

My husband purchased a voucher from S&B Remodeling & Construction. We called the vendor well before it expired. The vendor asked to call back to schedule our appointment for service at a later date because he had over booked himself. He also agreed to an extension of the voucher. We called and texted Sid (owner of S&B Remodeling) to call us back for a month and a half and no answer. We finally asked living social to look at our situation and had proof to back it up with emails, phone calls, and texts. Living social denied our complaint and refused to refund our money. Where is the accountability of the vendor in this situation? Well, there isn't one. We have bought several coupons from this site and it obviously doesn't matter that Sid ripped us off our money with proof at hand. These groupon sites are a waste of time and there is NO such thing as customer service.

I purchased kids' art classes from living social. The merchant did not honor saying they did not get sufficient sales to be able to set up the classes. Living Social refused to refund the money, citing their 7-day refund policy. They don't check their merchants and don't verify to ensure consumers are not being scammed. This makes Living Social a scammer.

I bought a coupon for home-made apple pie. When I went to the restaurant, they don't have apple pie. Other case, I bought a coupon for car experience, last November for my BF's birthday. Last May the car company, Racing box, canceled it, I have waited for 7 months now, we reschedule it for June 24, the car company, Racing box canceled it without notification. I realized it at the circuit place. We were so pissed off. I asked living social to refund my coupon. They refused. They told me that I have to talked to Racing box. I paid Living social, now for refund I need to talk to Racing box directly! WTF. Even worse, Racing box don't answer the phone, they don't even have a voice mail. What a voucher.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have just had the most awful so called "customer services" experience that I think I have ever ever had, and I have been on the planet a good 36 years now. I bought an 'experience' on which it WAS NOT mentioned that it could only be used on limited dates, and when I say limited, I mean, there are no dates as they are waiting for a minimum of 10 people to agree to the same date to agree to plan the experience! How can anyone / would anyone knowingly buy something like that!? Anyway, its been a nightmare trying to contact the merchant compant to find out the date that they will allow us to use our voucher. I called LS and told them I wasn't happy, and was not informed properly when buying as I would never have paid good money for this. That was 2 weeks ago. They said they'd look into it. Last week I emailed them for an update - surprise surprise, no reply. I called today and was upset that this was causing me so much grief and that the customer service rep was just downright rude to me. I asked to speak to a manager to try to sort this out and he told me in a hell of a stroppy voice that 'No, you cannot speak to a manager, just read the email that I am about to send you' (which is of no help whatsoever by the way) and with that he slammed the phone down without even asking if I had finished or if he could help further, or if things were clear. THIS COMPANY IS A TOTAL JOKE! PLEASE DO NOT GET FOOLED BY THEM

Stay away!
July 31, 2013

Stay away! They are simply trying to take your money and scam you.

I bought 2 tickets for a white water rafting event which was canceled at the last minute. They did not tell anyone about the cancellation, and in fact, sent out a confirmation email 12 hours before the event. When I called to ask if it was really going on (it was pouring outside), the representative told me he didn't know what was going on, but that the event already had been cancelled a long time ago.

He then said the only way I would get my money back would be to reschedule my date for the event. I was hesitant because I know they have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but the rep assured me that I would be allowed to cancel at a later date because this was not my fault.

A week later, I call to cancel the rescheduled event (3 weeks before the event), and they refuse to give me my refund, based on the fact that "the waiver you signed stated no refunds after 24 hours". I spend an hour on hold waiting for the manager, and when I finally get him, he is rude (several times telling me "so you're basically just trying to use our weather cancellation to get a refund.") and tells me "we can argue all day, and my answer is still no."

Beware! Do not use this service!

I purchased a "service" from Living Social which was not honoured by the Merchant. I had to find another company at short notice and extra cost to do the work that had been paid for. Living Social refused to refund me saying I should persue the Merchant for a refund. Living Social have zero accountability and integrity. I will NEVER use this site again.

This is an awful company to deal with, particularly if you want a refund. You get impersonal emails not signed by a named person, and robotic answers to questions. They refused me a refund on health grounds (yoga class I couldn't attend) and seem only to care about money, not customers.

Vendors only get 50% of the deal money in any case, so for small businesses Livingsocial is basically a parasite company making money off other people's sweat. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Buyer beware, living social will direct you to a third party for this wonderful 'deal' your getting. When that shoddy company doesn't send or it gets 'returned' back to them, you are stuck without the product or refund. LS customer service reps say it is not there problem and I was even hung up on by one of these reps. Watch out for this scam and im positive LS will get whats coming to them...

From the business

LivingSocial is a leading "daily deal" site that sells discounted experiences and local services--restaurants, spa trips, home services, travel, etc.--via voucher. The consumer must pay for the voucher upfront, and the voucher generally must be used within a specified time period or it cannot be redeemed. To make these deals possible, LivingSocial sells merchants on its ability to help "find and keep more customers". LivingSocial is a private company based in Washington DC and its shareholders include Amazon.com.
