My wife and I sent multiple old VCR family recordings and photos to Legacy Box a few months ago. Our intent was to digitalize these items so we could free up some storage space. We were initially very pleased with the results as we viewed our memories from the thumb drive that held all of the data. However, when I went to look at them again and begin to organize for our children the thumb drive would not load onto my laptop. This was the same laptop that was used initially. I contacted them to see what could be done and was told that they only keep data for 30 days and there nothing they could do. Since we disposed of the originals all of those priceless memories are gone forever. My advice? Do not dispose of your memorabilia until you have made copies or uploaded the the thumb drive to the cloud or other back-up device. It would have been helpful for LegacyBox to have made that recommendation when they returned our materials.
As a 76 year old woman, I did not realize that digitizing my VCR-tapes meant that they would be sent to me in an attachment to open. I was unable to open the attachment on my computer. After contacting Legacy Box, they sent me DVD's of my tapes instead at no cost to me. I highly recommend them.
I sent them photos of the 8mm reels. They responded that everything should go well. Paid the money sent in 2 reels. It took them three weeks to acknowledge that they were received. Seven more days to 'verify codes.' Then a message that they could not process the film, four days for items to be returned unprocessed. The process seems like a scam, to me. This company should not be stealing money like this. MAJOR RIP OFF!
How I wish I had read reviews before I sent my tapes. I was just so excited to be getting my home movies made into DVD's. I now see how several people have went through what I have went through. I sent in 9 tapes hoping to get duplicated's on each to give the duplicate away. When they received my tapes, the asked for more money. I ended up paying over 200.00, and what I got back was 2 DVD's with 1 hour footage on one tape. Like many others have stated, they charge you but can't use the tapes. Now I can clearly watch the old vcr tapes at home, but they state they can't convert them. This is what they seem to do to many customers. Trying to get ahold of the company for a refund is a joke. I have sent several several emails, but I don't hear anything back. I wish I would have known, if they don't have a 800 number to contact them, that might just be a red flag. I hope I make one person or several think twice before throwing their money away. This is not a good legit company
While this service may work for some, I found it provided little or no technical service to the media I forwarded. For the most part, all that was done was to transfer my old 8mm films with all its flaws and gaps onto a dvd. Without any indexing or editing. In other words I got back exactly what I sent. Unimpressive!
30 years ago I had a local service take another set of films. Transfer them onto Video tape edit out the gaps, improve the imagery and add music to the tape. The cost was not exhorbatant.

Your digital files are completely editable so you are welcome to edit as you see fit. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding this matter.
I have been saving film, afraid to have it transferred. I am so happy I finally did it. Legacy box is dependable,
Careful with my items, and lets me know where my film is in the process. I will send more.
These guys are really poorly run. I sent my files into them March 29th. It is now July 9th and i've got nothing. They have sent conflicting messages like - "We received your shipment" and "We're processing the shipment" only to see another message a few weeks later saying "Good News we just received your shipment". I can't get any response from them when I inquire other than "we're behind" - and in the meantime - they have the digital assets and my money and I've got nothing. Stay away - very very very poor service... Such a shame
I didn't mind that it took 5 months but what I do mind is that I paid a lot of money and didn't get much in return. The quality is very poor and no it isn't my tapes. Example, I have 3 mins of video and 2 hours of blue screen. Complete and total waste of my money. I sent in almost 20 cassette tapes, most are only mins of actual film and the rest blue screen. If I take the tape and put it in my old video recorder I can watch the video that is missing so it is there. SO UPSET and disappointed!
I had loads of various media types - film, VHS, Mini-DV, etc. - and great intentions to get them digitized. Years passed, and then... LegacyBox! A few weeks, and I've
Got EVERYTHING on flash drives, plus my family can download whatever they want from the "cloud". Cannot recommend LegacyBox too highly.

I bought LegacyBox for my husband as a Christmas present. All of our home videos were on a format that we couldn't use anymore. It has been so much fun watching all of our videos. The turnaround was quick. The shipping process is easy because everything is prepared for you. LegacyBox is expensive - but so worth it.
Thanks Sarah! We are so happy you were able to happily relive these golden memories. It's an honor to provide this service to you and your loved ones!
Having my old VHS tapes converted to digital files saved in Google drive was a piece of cake. I wish they provided services to help edit the videos in terms of removing the blank parts of the tapes, but I was able to do that through the iPhoto app on my Mac computer.
Overall great experience and very responsive customer service.
I ordered one of their packages for my moms Christmas present. We got the box in the mail (they send you a box to put your videos in, then send back to them.) Long story short, it took my mom forever to actually send the videos back to Legacy box to et converted. (If you're doing this as a gift you should probably put the videos in the box and send it yourself) They say it could be 4-6 weeks till you get your order back after you ship it, and that theyd communicate their completion status. Well, they took a bit longer than that. It's kind of a long wait. They DID communicate, but DIDN'T communicate that there would be a longer than expected wait. And this was in the off season. So if you're expecting to get your videos back for an occasion, have things planned out a while in advance. They videos did come back converted. No problems otherwise. They were videos from the 90's so I mean, it was 90's VHS quality. No magic happened or anything. I guess it was as expected.
I had made home copies and thought that using a service like Legacy Box I would see better results, but I was very disappointed in the product. There was substantial footage missing and the video quality was not nearly as good as I got with my home VHS to DVD Converter. There was also one transfer with no sound for a long segment. It was a waste of money.
I am thrilled with the digitization of my old movies and audio. I was not sure of the quality of my originals and was nervous about how they might turn out. But the result was way above my expectation. The VHS tape transfer result was good quality. The audio cassettes were clear and easy to understand. I am thrilled with the result. Most definitely worth the money.
This is a great service, and I will definitely recommend it to my family and friends.
Hi, Janet! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am thrilled that you love the files that we returned to you. Please let us know if you need anything else!

Half of the videos I paid for weren't processed and LegacyBox refuses to respond and tell me where my videos are. This has cost me hundreds of dollars. Apparently legal action is all they will respond to, so that's the next step. Avoid this unethical company at all costs.
This service turned out to be pretty bad. The time of turnaround for all elements of the process took longer than stated in their documents, and the communication during the process, especially after the apology for taking longer than anticipated, was spotty and inconsistent and had months of no communication at all. There were times during the process when I was unsure that my tapes were still being processed. The response to my complaints about these issues was turned back on me as if I had nothing to complain about and the service extension was an unfortunate reality that I would just have to accept. Only after complaining directly to management after two previous customer service contacts did I get 'bumped up in the queue' and my transfers were finally completed about four weeks later than the longest stated estimate time. To top it all off, the video files, once I FINALLY received the thumb drive, were two hours when the tapes were only one so I had to edit out all the dead time myself. Also, the resolution used for the transfers was horrible; these were HD videos, but the transfers were even grainier and more pixelated than the original footage. I wish I would have spent my money elsewhere to get this work done.
It has been 20 and 22 years since my parents passed. I sent in two tapes and one 8mm reel, which I thought were not salvageable but lo and behold, Legacybox was able to compile them and make my family and me a lifetime of memories. Hearing and seeing my parents for the first time in over 20 years, was so emotional. I am thankful, Legacybox was able to give us such a wonderful gift! I would recommend Legacybox services as they made everything so simple from start to finish.
They constantly send you emails on how they are progressing on you times however, they really aren't saying anything. When I questioned the customer service wanting to know what was really happening I was told a lie about when I sent in my items. Then I sent proof of the date they received my times it seems my items were moved to be processed. It seems as though they are trying to getting you to pay the expedite fee if you have not. I do not recommend this company. There is no indication of time per bar coded items and all those emails if just proof they take you money and wait unit the last minute to process the product. They should waste less time on the computer generated emails and more time on overseeing who is working on the service.
I spent over $600 to get approximately 500 slides digitized...which they did -- BUT the quality is SO POOR! Around EVERY SINGLE slide is a black border...that their customer service representative says it is their process! They do NOT say that they will put a border around your images... But even IF it was acceptable, the borders are irregular and uneven. Some images have black borders on 2 sides...some on all 4. I spoke with customer service...and they are UNWILLING to refund me my money! They wanted to give me CREDIT! Ugh! For a terrible, terrible service. I previously took slides to a local vendor and they did a beautiful job...NO BORDERS...and sometimes even improved the image. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. What a waste!
I hope someone from Legacy can remediate my issue -- but as i have tried normal channels...my hope is slim.
Cost effective, quality transmogrification process. Peace of mind with family memories is foremost and Legacybox attends to that: put materials in a box-within-a-box that Legacybox sends. Return to any UPS store. Wait a bit and your materials are returned with the digital conversions.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
