We sent in 10 units to be copied onto CD's. When they returned the copied CD's Legacybox had only copied 4 of the video units we sent (we viewed all the CD they copied). One of the units was copied twice so we only really received 3 of the 10 units sent. They did send us our original video files back. There was no explanation included in the returned package, nor a refund. When we called, the representative could not give us an explanation and suggested we go to Office Depot as they do a good job converting our video files to CDs. Today in the mail we received a box from Legacybox about the size of two shoe boxes, inside was one CD which was a third copy of a CD we already had two copies. No refund as of this date. I do not recommend Legacybox.
This company provides an important service -- preserving irreplaceable videotapes and pictures. I just wish they paid as much attention to the product as to their image. I sent in 22 videotapes (VHS, 8mm, digital video). Most were copied correctly the first time, but they totally ignored the post-it notes that I had put on a few of the tape cases. Example: one note said the first 30 minutes of the tape were blank but the rest of the tape had recordings. They sent that tape back, uncopied, with a note that the tape was blank. My post-it note was still on the other side. There were major errors on a few other tapes (video and/or sound blackouts). After I complained, they re-did those tapes, but the quality of the redone tapes looked just a bit off. The price is fair, but only if you wait for the 45% or 50% off sales, which seem to come regularly. Once you get on their mailing list, the e-mail ads are relentless.
I had 10 mini DV tapes from my daughter's childhood. I tried to digitize them myself but could get all of the connectors and cables that were needed, so I gave up. I purchased the Legacy Box and mailed in my tapes. I had previewed them all to make sure that they all had content on them. One only had a few minutes of video with the rest static, hide sight I should not have sent this one in. So I'd recommend you a preview before you submit. It took a few weeks until the status should processing, but once it was in processing I received an email in only a few days with my digital download. Thank you for preserving our family's memories.
Hi, Sandra! Thanks so much for providing this feedback for us! We are so happy to help with preserving your family's memories!
I'm beginning my 13 week of waiting for my order. Each week they send another email that the order is safe and In Process. They advertise 10-12 week turnaround. Now saying 10-15 week. They won't tell me where the order is. No confidence. Beware
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. I understand your concerns over being parted with your items for so long, and I am very sorry for the current extended turnaround times. While our average is 10-12 weeks, unfortunately that average can fluctuate depending on the formats and number of orders received, as each order is processed in the order in which it is received. We truly appreciate how patient you have been with us! Our customer service team is available 7 days a week if there is ever anything we can help you with at questions@legacybox.com or by phone at 800-797-8210.
I had video that I was told could not be retrieved. I decided to try again with Legacy Box. I received my video memories back that I never expected to see of my baby boy. ( 30 years)I cried to see all of it again. Happy heart and Mommy. Legacy Box RULES in my opinion.
Thanks for your feedback! We are so happy to hear that you had such a seamless experience with us. We aim to deliver an effortless process to take the worry out of preserving your precious memories! We hope you enjoy sharing those memories with your family for years to come.
I sent in several tapes to be digitalized. The problems I had were 1. Took too long to conversion, 2. They got my order wrong ( though they did correct it), and 3. The copies that I received were of poor quality and parts of the video were missing. I would not recommend to use this company
We found some old 8mm home movies of my husband's family starting around the time he turned one. We sent the tapes to LegacyBox to be converted to DVD and flash drive. When they sent us the finished product, my husband couldn't believe amazing the DVD's turned out. They were able to preserve his memories of his grandparents that have been gone for several years now. We would highly recommend LegacyBox if you want to preserve your family's old movies.
That is wonderful, Kim! We are truly happy that you and your husband can watch these precious 8mm movies!
Legacybox simply forgot to include a number of my discs in their mailing back to me. More frustrating, they are not available by phone, simply cannot even leave a message for callback. Their message is that they are too understaffed, call back later. Later is never any better. Avoid this vendor.
When i did this my husband was dying from cancer and I wanted to start redoing all our family VHS tapes, I have tons, I only sent in 10 to start, I also have a player that i can still play them on but wanted my children to have them on DVD, when I received them back i didn't get to watch them because my concern was my husband, he passed away and the kids were over 2 weeks ago and wanted to see the 10 tapes I had done, what a disappointment! One was completely scrambled! You couldn't watch it and 2 of them were some black & white movies in another language? What the heck! These were tapes of my children and they all work get on my VHS player I spent over 200.00 for a bunch of waste! Never again! Debi
Hi Deborah, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize for any disappointment. We would be happy to take a further look into this for you. Please reach out to us questions@legacybox.com with your order number and we would be happy to assist you.
Had over 20 tapes of my kids growing old, and no player to play it on anymore. Conversion was easy and quick. They run sales and they make the process reasonable to afford. One tape had an issue. They had me send it back and they redid it quickly and correctly. Now I have all of that tape on 2 thumb drives.
Sent in numerous rolls of 8mm film, that had been passed down from various family members. Most I had never seen. Legacy Box had a promotional sale and I took advantage of it and sent it all in. They put them all on a thumb drive and got them back to me in the time estimate they promised. My family and I really appreciated their service.
Thank you, Robert! We are so happy that you are able to share these precious digitized films with your family!
The process was very easy and worth every penny I spent. Was thankful to be able to watch my old videotapes digitally that I hadn't seen in so many years and some very special ones that I had never watched. This is amazing and I highly recommend it!
The majority of reviews here are for videos of some sort, and the videos we had processed were done well. Very few address photos, and the problem with LegacyBox processing photos is 1) in the order processed and 2) not being able to process photos of a certain thickness. The thickness restriction of the machines I understand although it should be mentioned up front. The order of processing is a definite issue. You receive labels to put on your packages, and those labels have a sequential number on them. That sequence should be followed but is not. I understand that photos within a package may have a processing problem and have to be out of sequence, but in general photos should be processed in order since order and chronology matter in viewing.
Hey Grover,
We appreciate your constructive feedback very much! Photo Chronology is a service we are actively looking at. SUPER glad to hear you loved your order regardless! We hope you enjoy these items forever!
Purchased a 10-kit conversion and my girlfriend purchased it for me as well as a Christmas present. Ask for a refund and they charge 70% of the discounted price OR 20% retail for the restocking fee. Which is crazy since it is basically covering the cost of shipping an empty little box. $70 for shipping an empty little box. What a joke - this is not a reputable company. DO not ORDER from them.
Decided to have 8mm tapes transferred to DVD's as Christmas gifts for my kids. Was extremely easy to do, they basically do everything for you. It did take over 3 mos but was worth it and hope my kids enjoy their memories also. Waiting for the next arrival of transferred tapes! Thanks Legacybox.
Hello Delphine! Thank you so much for the kind review. We are so happy that you enjoyed what we created for you and we are thankful that you decided to have us digitized your precious memories.
My LegacyBox was a Christmas gift from a friend and I really enjoyed working with LegacyBox. The process is easy as can be and it gave me an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane as I sifted through some photos I had from 40+ years ago. This is great way to preserve your memories without having to fuss with doing all of the scanning and cataloging yourself.
Hey Brenda! So honored we could make your holiday amazing! I hope you have many wonderfully preserved memories to last you forever!
When my box came with DVDs converted from old tapes I was so thrilled and very emotional. It was beautiful to put in a DVD and relive those precious moments that I thought I wouldn't see again. Legacybox did a great job for a great price. I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much.
We spent around $360 and sent in 20 VHS to be put onto DVDs. They had them for 5 months. They said that they could not transfer them very well, that they were too old. They were about 15-30 years old. They sent us the DVDs that are very poor (blurry and garbled speech). They advertise that they can transfer old VHS to DVDs, but they can not. We are looking at the VHS and they are very good (clear pictures and good sound). I would not recommend them at all. I am very disappointed. It was a waste of $360.
Not only did it take MONTHS to get back my footage, but I was so sad to see that so many of the home videos were ruined. Prior to sending them in, we were able to watch them on a vhs player, so i know that the quality of the film was good. When receiving the digital files of the films, they were completely shaky, more than one video was COMPLETELY ruined. When you ship off your precious family memories to a company like this and then receive ruined footage, it's beyond sad - we paid hundreds of dollars to have all our memories converted and i'm SO sad with the results - i'm going to tell everyone i know NOT to ever use legacy box.
If I could I would give this company a -100. I had submitted three reels to them to have them convert and they lost one of my reels. That is my memory and they lost it. They are lying about it and I know for a fact it was included in that package. They are so unprofessional I do not trust this company at all
Hi Jody,
Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. We regret to hear that you are having trouble locating an item you believe was in our possession, however, our team was able to conclusively determine that the item was not included in your order.
We take issues like yours very seriously, as we understand that the items our customers send us are irreplaceable and priceless. We have thoroughly investigated your case, and based on all the evidence we have, we concluded that there were only 2 film reels included in the box upon opening it up in our facility.
We understand that the conclusion we've come to was not what you'd hoped for, but we are utterly confident that if your item is missing, it did not go missing while here in our facility.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Hi Dale, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Without your order number I am unable to say for certain but it seems like you may have sent in film reels for out team to process for you. I do apologize for any misunderstanding on the conversion process! Film reels are consolidated onto as few discs as possible and will play from one to the next seamlessly in the order in which you labeled them with your provided barcodes. If you can please reach out to customer service via an email to questions@legacybox.com with the attention of a supervisor, We would be happy to further look into why you may not have received some of your items on the discs and get this corrected for you.
