50 years ago I placed a box of about 40,8mm films on a shelf in the closet. The Legacy Box ads finally convinced me to try the service. I pulled down the dusty box, doubting that the reels were still viable, and selected 3 to send in.
Days later I put the thumb drive in my computer and was overwhelmed with the result. So many treasured memories were on display. I saw our children as babies, parents and my wife and I when we both had dark hair.
Best of all we saw them move, laugh and react to the camera. A still picture can't do that.
We will be sending more reels in the near future.
I was very resistant to send my parents' 8mm movies away in a box but SO glad I did. My original plan of a movie projector aimed at a pillowcase with my camera pressed on "Record" was an EPIC FAIL as I watched the projector EAT the first movie! Legacybox was definitely money well spent and I am now able to show my 80 year old dad movies of him as a teenager and show my niece movies of her great grandparents. I was able to obsessively track the films the whole time. I called customer service a few times and they were more than helpful. Definitely get the thumb drive upgrade. Thank you for preserving these memories!
You're welcome! We are SO happy that you chose us to bring these memories back to life!
I had some old film converted to digital for my 93 year old grandmother's Christmas gift! She will be able to see her parents, sisters, and husband in motion for the first time in 20 years! LegacyBox was SO EASY! I would highly recommend them to anyone.
That is amazing, Jill! Thank you for choosing us to convert your film!
This was a great experience. My old family flicks... of me when a child..from 8mm movies are so fun to watch and share with my children! I also have sent in all of our old VHS movies of the kids at young ages. So nice to be able to have the chance to re-see all of the fun times! Now they can be enjoyed for the ages! Great efficiency with labelling and quick return!
That is wonderful, Denise! We are really happy that you can re live these precious memories!
I learned about Legacy Box from an online ad. I used them once for 10 old family home films dating back to the 1920s. No one had looked at them in over 50 years. They back as digital copies that I can share with other family members. I liked the service so much I sent 20 more films to be digitized. I have also referred a cousin to the site who has many more family films and VHS tapes. I definitely recommend Legacy Box. - Miller Williams
Thank you so much, Miller! We are glad that we were able to provide you with digital copies of your memories!
Please don't second guess if you want to do this. You will not be disappointed. Incredibly easy process. Fast turn around. We have ooooed and awwed and laughed and cried over and over again. Thanks for the memories Legacybox! We'll be back!
We are SO happy that you are enjoying your digitized memories, Lori! We cannot wait to process another order for you!
It's a good thing that I did not read any reviews before I ordered or else I would not have chosen them. What did happen was that things went as they said they would in their brochure. The box came on time, it was tracked and they informed me of each step along the way. I received my original tapes and the digitalized copies in short order. I did review them and am very pleased with the results. The tapes that I sent in were from the 60's so I did not expect them to be perfect. You can only do so much unless you want to spend thousands of dollars to have them touched up like you see with old TV movies.
Thank you so much, Michael for choosing us to digitize these precious tapes!
My dad passed away 2 years ago and as we were going through belongings we found a vhs tape of my parents anniversary. I heard about Legacy Box and thought why not? Sent off the tape and within a few weeks received a dvd copy along with the original vhs tape. It's like getting a piece of my dad back. Hearing is voice again means more than I could put into words! I highly recommend this service.
Thank you so much, Rhonda. We are so happy we could digitize this tape for you. Being able to hear your Father's voice again is such a wonderful thing!
The final product and presentation is outstanding. They were also able to convert tapes that other companies failed at.
Thank you so much! We are so glad that you chose us for this wonderful service!
We had 41 video cassettes that were 20-25 years old digitized; memories we thought we had lost. Service was great, timely, all questions were answered promptly, politely. Great program.
Thank you SO much! We are really glad that you are able to re live these memories!
Highly recommend you get your own Legacy Box... or two... or three. Such a super convenient way to save important memories. Response is very efficient, our photos come back... as advertised... professionally processed. Updates and e-mail notifications are the best. We will use until we run out of stuff!
That is great to hear! We would love to process more of your precious items!
Apparently Tosha from Legacy Box reads Site Jabber's reviews and reached out to me to resolve the Groupon issue. After I sent her the pictures of my "proof" she honored the original order plus threw in a bonus add on. So at this point I'm pleased with the resolution and will update the review once I see how the final Legacy Box product turns out.
I bought a Groupon for Legacy Box that "Never Expires". $129.99 for a $500 value Closet Box Media Digitizing Kit. A couple years later I went to use it and the code was not accepted online. When I called Customer Service they were supposed to look into it and respond but didn't. When I called again the agent informed me that my Groupon "expired" but I could use the value I paid $129.99 against the $500 list price. So now they wanted another $370.01 for the Groupon deal they should have honored. I sent Groupon all the communication and picture images of the "never expires" deal & Legacy Box refused to respond. I ended up just having the origional $129.99 cost credited by Groupon. Legacy Box ended up being an unethical company with the worst customer service I've experienced.
Beware of Legacy Box. A company that takes our precious old home movies and pictures and converts them to various digital media's. Although they pride themselves on providing state-of-the-art tracking, barcoding, and personalized updates at every step of the way, like any organization, they're only as good as their workers. I did receive an update that my movies had been converted successfully to DVD's as I requested. My family memories came back unfinished, missing DVD's. DVD's that I paid for. When I talked with customer service, they were willing to give me a credit for three DVDs that were missing. Period. Not offer to make it right. #customerservice

I ordered one of their packages for my moms Christmas present. We got the box in the mail (they send you a box to put your videos in, then send back to them.) Long story short, it took my mom forever to actually send the videos back to Legacy box to et converted. (If you're doing this as a gift you should probably put the videos in the box and send it yourself) They say it could be 4-6 weeks till you get your order back after you ship it, and that theyd communicate their completion status. Well, they took a bit longer than that. It's kind of a long wait. They DID communicate, but DIDN'T communicate that there would be a longer than expected wait. And this was in the off season. So if you're expecting to get your videos back for an occasion, have things planned out a while in advance. They videos did come back converted. No problems otherwise. They were videos from the 90's so I mean, it was 90's VHS quality. No magic happened or anything. I guess it was as expected.
My experience started out fairly well with half of the order being processed on time. Although I didn't order downloads, they sent them anyway. The last half of the order never came. After contacting customer service, a long search began trying to track down a home movie and audio tapes. After more time, the audio was finally found and downloaded. The home movie was also sent as a download a little later, but wasn't the home movie, but slides of another person's order. Bottom line, they never could find the digitized home movie. It turns out after looking at what they sent back, the home movie was never even processed as the canister was still taped shut. The slides I sent back were returned out of order in different bags. The VHS tapes I sent in weren't even put back in their clam cases properly and not even closed. Very unprofessional. I was initially promised half of a refund which never came. Then after further screw ups, I was promised a full refund and do date (almost 2 months later) nothing has been sent. Not only dd they not follow through on what they were to have done on the order, they have lied and kept my money. And to those of you looking to have slides digitized, they will come back in raw form. They don't even blow the dust off them let alone clean them up -- so you will have to do that with an editing program. Stay away from LegacyBox/Southtree. You can do much, much better elsewhere. Rush Limbaugh needs to re-evaluate his endorsement of these clowns. The on site communication absolutely stopped halfway through the order and only resumed after the fact when they were called on the carpet about the order. I am thankful nothing got lost in the return, but I didn't even get the promised DVDs. How LegacyBox has stayed in business this long baffles me in looking at so many other terrible reviews. More can be said, but my best advice is to search elsewhere if you want your precious items digitized. Shame on LegacyBox for their poor service and their thievery!
Staff is untrained to blow dust of off negatives before scanning. Customer Support refuses to make it right. Extremely unprofessional. Avoid at all costs!
After receiving our Legacybox, I felt our pictures would be in good hands. The box was new, heavyweight, and placed in another box. Very secure. The company appeared professional.
We sorted and arranged just over 2400 pictures. I dont need to tell you how long that took!
After weeks of not hearing from them, we discovered that since we had sent some additional pictures above what we had originally paid for ($1000), they stopped the process, BUT NEVER CONTACTED US FOR PAYMENT BALANCE!
Once we did, we only waited an additional 5-6 weeks!
The biggest problem arose when we received the box back. You would have NEVER thought it the same company. An old, oversized, previously used, tapped up corrugated box arrived. Inside were multiple sheets of crinkled brown paper, and all our picture envelopes thrown in below w/ no rhyme or reason. Now came the fun part. Where is the thumb drive?! We began to think that possibly it was coming in separate cover. While sorting through again, we discovered a very small gray OPENED envelope... maybe 2 x 4. The thumbdrive must have been inside. Resorting again, and shaking the crinkled paper we heard a clink. The teeny thumbdrive had been somewhere in this crinkled paper. It could have easily been thrown away. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! HOW UNPROFESSIONAL CAN YOU BE?! We had just spent over $1000 w/ a fly by night company! One would think that w/ the size of this box, you would receive the thumbdrive in its own small Legacybox. Easy to find
I just wish we had read these reviews before making this decision, but we were taken in by the radio ad and we were VERY anxious to get rid of 30+ albums of pictures and consolidate them to a thumbdrive.
BUYER BEWARE!
I sent in four video tapes (I paid an additional $14 for one of my VHS's). As soon as I shipped my Legacybox to its location, I started to have problems with my order. It arrived a week and a half to their location. After that, I waited 6 weeks and I still did not receive my Legacybox. Also, hey could not convert one of my VHS because it supposedly had mold. I believe this can be fixed, especially because I paid extra. But either way, I have not received my refund. I was disappointed with their poor service and I am not satisfied with the quality. Honestly, I rather watch my memories with my VCR (FOR FREE) because it has the exact image quality. I do not recommend this service at all! The money spent does not reflects the service that they provide for its customers. Especially if you want these beautiful memories on time. It is not worth it.
I bought a 10-tape box as a gift for my wife on Mother's day. When she went online to activate the gift, we were informed that an additional $40 was due for a USB drive to put the digitized files on. When I complained about the unexpected fee, they basically said, "too bad, pay". Two and a half months later, we finally received our tapes back and the USB drive with the digitized files. Most are of satisfactory quality, but at least one will have to be redone because the image shakes badly and has static. I'm not sending it back to them, I will try Costco. One tape at a time.
I paid over $800 to LegacyBox in January 2018 to convert 2 sets of family cassettes into digital files. Next week is July 2018, still not completed. I was promised 4-6 week completion. Its now 6 Months later and no files yet. The first excuse was that their cloud server went down. I had to resend the whole box of tapes. The second time they said they couldnt get google drive to work. So I sent the tapes a third time. Im still waiting. Ive asked that the President call me to explain whether they are capable of doing the simple job or not. No answer. The CSR staff are all nice enough on the phone. But its clear there must be chaos in the production department. Im a disgusted customer, still waiting for my files to be delivered.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
