I've been hearing Legacybox ads for years and finally decided to send an old cassette tape of my Mother telling her life story and have them make a CD of it. The process went so smoothly right from the start and continued to the delivery of my CD along with the old cassette tape. They communicate where in the process they are and I never felt like I was in danger of losing my Mom's tape. I wish every company I deal with is as professional and efficient. Great job Legacy Box!
I have had about 170 of my old VHS home
Videos converted onto flash drives, CD's, and digital drives through Legacy Box. They have done a great job are very through and organized in their process. I have been able to share my precious treasured videos with my family and friends. It's so easy and I'm so glad I now have them preserved forever!
Thank you so much, Penny! We are overjoyed that you are able to share these precious memories with friends and family!
The results were not very good. I realize that some of the tapes were old (Beta tapes from the 80's!), but it looks as though no one even took the care to "track" the tapes. Some are even unwatchable and no refund was offered for those. They kept my entire payment. Also took much longer than they said it would. I will never use them again and will look for someone local.
Legacy Box provided everything I needed to ship my VCR tapes and they kept me informed throughout the process. I would highly recommend their services to anyone who wants to preserve their cherished memories.
Once I was determined to digitize my VHS tapes, regardless of cost, I proceeded to try out Legacy Box. It was a pleasant experience... fast turnaround... over delivered... ease of adding new items where I was charged as they were received with my initial items... all in all very professional and efficient.

My order took 16 weeks to process. Nothing unusual in the order. The first 15 minutes of one mini dvd copy has choppy audio and is not understandable. Customer service was quite limited, suggesting that the choppiness was because the original was choppy but this is not true. Issue is still not resolved 2 weeks later. Never using legacybox again.
We were sent a legacy box kit which included numbered bar codes. My siblings and I spent hours going through many rolls of 8mm film and marked them in order according to the numbered bar codes.
When we received the DVD's, they were completely out of order, not all of the film was transferred, you could see part of it slipping and some of the film was split from the reel.
I called and spoke with a very nice man who understood the problem. We were refunded what we paid thanks to the man that I spoke with. Thankfully all of the reels were returned along with the DVD's. If you treasure your memories, do not send them to legacy box! Although I read good reviews here, I think those people were just lucky! There are other ways to transfer film, etc. Save your money & your memories!

One star was only so I could leave the review. I expected LegacyBox to take longer than IMemories but for $9 a tape I thought I would give them a try. I requested the box in Mid-August and sent it in filled with my family memories on 9/01/23. In Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec all I was told was my items were in a secure location and will be processed as soon as one of their team members can process my items. In the middle of January my items were moving to the processing room. My completed images were loaded digitally on 1/31/24,5 months after I mailed my box. My downloads were good but it appeared the tapes were but on a machine and loaded. Therefore if my tape had 30 minutes on a 4hr tape, i got a 4 hour download. Regardless, I received my downloads. My items were mailed back and were to arrive on 2/07 but never arrived. When I checked they advised due to the rain, it would be delayed. Now a month later they looked into it and found that my box was lost and UPS has closed the search for my family memories. In my experience, use IMemories instead.
Order Legacy Box about a month ago. Finally got the box 2 days ago. Thats only the start. Try calling this company? When they answer they sound like the person answering the phone is speaking with you with a paper bag over their head. This company took 4 weeks to send me the box so I canceled and they told me their is a 20% cancellation fee plus the cost of the box? Really? Stop before you push that order button!
I sent some old reel-to-reel audio tapes to Legacybox to transfer to modern media. When I play these tapes on an old reel-to-reel tape player, I can hear them just fine. After 10 weeks of waiting, I received some audio CDs, a flash drive and a digital download. The audio on all these is almost non-existent, even turned up all the way. I wanted to transfer these tapes so my 93 year old blind dad could enjoy them, since he can't work the old tape player. What a disappointment and a waste of my time and money!
Most of the video was good but saw and awful lot of blue screens and 2 videos were just blue screen for an hour! I wasted my money just for a blue screen when i can find one by deleting system 32 and looking at google.
Easy process to get my items out. The wait time seemed long, but this was stated in the beginning process. Everything was returned with the new items. I would recommend paying the little extra to get a extra copy of everything. I like the items being numbered so I can make a list of and short summary of each item for reference. Will be using Legacybox again.
I had slides that were taken 50 years ago, and I had meant to do something about them for years. It was wonderful to trust that they were well taken care of and now I can put them in my scrapbook finally. I was informed via email that they were being received and then worked on 2-3 times. It took a few months but I am so happy that I did this. I recommend this company entirely!
Legacy Box has such knowledgeable and friendly staff. It has been such a pleasure to deal with this company. We were so impressed with the final product. We couldn't be happier. Thank you to everyone who made this possible for our family.
The entire process was easy and reliable...and worked just as the company says it will. It's not the world's fastest process, but they get it right and your materials get returned safely to you. A bit costly, but again, they're safe and reliable.
I was very resistant to send my parents' 8mm movies away in a box but SO glad I did. My original plan of a movie projector aimed at a pillowcase with my camera pressed on "Record" was an EPIC FAIL as I watched the projector EAT the first movie! Legacybox was definitely money well spent and I am now able to show my 80 year old dad movies of him as a teenager and show my niece movies of her great grandparents. I was able to obsessively track the films the whole time. I called customer service a few times and they were more than helpful. Definitely get the thumb drive upgrade. Thank you for preserving these memories!
You're welcome! We are SO happy that you chose us to bring these memories back to life!
I sent in four video tapes (I paid an additional $14 for one of my VHS's). As soon as I shipped my Legacybox to its location, I started to have problems with my order. It arrived a week and a half to their location. After that, I waited 6 weeks and I still did not receive my Legacybox. Also, hey could not convert one of my VHS because it supposedly had mold. I believe this can be fixed, especially because I paid extra. But either way, I have not received my refund. I was disappointed with their poor service and I am not satisfied with the quality. Honestly, I rather watch my memories with my VCR (FOR FREE) because it has the exact image quality. I do not recommend this service at all! The money spent does not reflects the service that they provide for its customers. Especially if you want these beautiful memories on time. It is not worth it.
Their site is misleading - for the starter kit which is $72, the picture shows dvd's, thumb drive, a nice box, welcome guide, etc. I assumed you are paying for the 3 little DVDs in that price, so I ordered it and paid the extra $9.99 for the thumb drive. In order to get the DVD's you have to pay another $9.99 extra which I did not see. All I got back was the the box, my original tapes with my identifying labels missing, and a tiny little thumb drive. I haven't even checked yet to see if all the tapes were copied correctly onto thumb drive. So far, it does not appear so. Last year I used Legacy Box, and they messed up on that order by not copying 3 of the 25 or so tapes I had sent them, so I had to send them back to be copied. I'm pretty much done using them.
Hi Heidi, we do appreciate the feedback about our pricing. We always try to be transparent regarding this service. That said, the prices for our DVDs are listed on the box's website page and additionally, we do send you two emails about your order. On the confirmation email you received, it confirmed you only had the Thumb Drive selected. Moreover, I do show we sent a 2nd email about your items once the box was checked in confirming your selection of only a Thumb Drive. Beyond the 3 points of contacts regarding pricing, if there's anywhere we could have been more clear let us know. Please feel free to reach out to us at Questions@Legacybox.com you can request to speak with our Supervisor, Jessica.
I spent HOURS organizing and numbering pictures for the digitization process. The pictures seemed to be grouped by "baggy," but not in order within the baggy. I was hoping to see the pictures on the flash drive in the somewhat chronological order in which I arranged them. To say that I'm upset is a gross understatement. For me, this was a complete waste of time and money.
Hi Anita,
Thank you for your feedback. Our goal is to create quality digital photo files for you to enjoy and share. We are happy to provide an overview of our process, outlining some of the reasons why it is not practicable for us to offer chronology as part of our digitizing service.
Difficult-to-scan photos require more attention and may be scanned on a different class of equipment from the rest of your collection. Scanner speed can alter photo order. And a final quality control check can reveal asymmetries that need corrective scans. For these reasons, and because we want to make our processes as efficient as possible, we cannot guarantee that our team will be able to keep your photos in the order you have sent them.
However, with the digitized.jpeg files, you'll be able to reorganize and arrange your memories exactly how you would like them on your computer.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us.
It's a good thing that I did not read any reviews before I ordered or else I would not have chosen them. What did happen was that things went as they said they would in their brochure. The box came on time, it was tracked and they informed me of each step along the way. I received my original tapes and the digitalized copies in short order. I did review them and am very pleased with the results. The tapes that I sent in were from the 60's so I did not expect them to be perfect. You can only do so much unless you want to spend thousands of dollars to have them touched up like you see with old TV movies.
Thank you so much, Michael for choosing us to digitize these precious tapes!
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
