I signed up for lawn service and a company texted me to set up a time for service. I no longer needed the service so I ignored the text. Several months later I was charged 3 separate times in the middle of the winter for lawn mowing. I called lawn starter, they hung up on me twice after putting me on hold. The 3rd time I got a highly polished representative that gave me a bunch of nonsense and would not give me the contact info of the lawn company that supposedly cut my lawn in the middle of the winter. A complaint was made with the Attorney General of Pennsylvania, Do not use this company.
I reached out to see about scheudleding service for one location. Little did I know that they would outsource to 3rd parties and then add on top of what they're charging. The vendor himself told me they would add anywhere between 15-20% on top of what I would pay the market. The only thing this company does is call up vendors to see if they can service your location. You still need to talk to the vendor directly about what you need. The percentage gets pocketed for them for making phone calls! Spend a few extra minutes yourself and call up vendors directly. Save yourself some money. Their support team is horrible as well. Couldn't get me a "service pro" after 3 different attempts to find someone. First guy I called up said he could do it and was cheaper than all the rest. When I asked to cancel, they refused and gave me some BS answer saying the system wouldn't allow them within 48 hours of the service date and that they couldn't escalate me to a manager to resolve this. Also gave some crap that I need to do 3 lawn cuts with them before I can even cancel. I didn't sign any paperwork. This company is a rip off and only wants to get your money as fast as possible. Don't use their services and go find your own people to do the job.

Review for Lawn Starters:
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Lawn Starters that I feel compelled to share so others can be aware of their poor business practices.
While performing lawn care services at my property, their worker damaged critical electrical infrastructure by knocking down the electrical wires connected to a transformer in my backyard. This reckless mistake not only caused a small electrical fire** but also cut off power to the entire block for 45 minutes. Even more concerning, the worker attempted to leave the scene without notifying anyone. He only stayed because the homeowner returned and caught him in the act. When confronted, the worker admitted he didn't know what to do and was planning to just leave without reporting the damage.
Afterward, dealing with Lawn Starters' customer service was an absolute nightmare. Despite being fully aware of the damages caused by their employee, they refused to take full responsibility. They initially tried to force me to go through the person listed on the account, not the homeowner, wasting valuable time. When they finally agreed to discuss payment, they only offered to cover half of the repair costs. It wasn't until I threatened legal action that they promised to pay the full amount.
But it didn't end there. After I completed the forms they sent to finalize the reimbursement, the company suddenly stopped responding. When I followed up, they claimed they never sent the payment agreement email, even though I have the email as proof. Their pattern of avoidance, delay tactics, and dishonesty is shameful and unethical.
I strongly urge anyone considering Lawn Starters for lawn care to rethink their decision. Accidents can happen, but how a company handles those accidents speaks volumes. Lawn Starters has shown they are not trustworthy, not transparent, and will avoid taking responsibility at all costs. If you value accountability, honesty, and professionalism, do yourself a favor and hire someone else.
Lawn Starters caused extensive property damage, tried to dodge responsibility, lied about their communications, and only took action after threats of legal action. Avoid at all costs.
I’m sorry that you feel you had a less than 5-star experience with our company, Stash. Please contact email me at hello@lawnstarter.com with LSREVIEWS-GMB/Stash as the subject of your email. We would love to talk more about your experience and further investigate it. Looking forward to hearing from you, Stash.
I requested the lawnmowing service. The first visit no problem. The second visit the provider didnt unload his equipment, waived a trimmer about my driveway and then drove away. Since lawnstarter didn't charge me that day or the next i assumed they werent going to charge as they didnt provide the service as contracted. But no they waited 4 days to charge me then told me i was required to dispute it WITHIN 5 days OF THE SERVICE. NOT THE CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE. Since i didnt notice the charge until 6 days they said basically you are screwed! I wouldnt use this "service" for anything!
We are sorry to hear about your recent experience with one of our services, Kenneth. Please know that we are proactively working to improve your experience. We will be reaching out to you soon to make things right.
My acct with LawnStarter was hacked. I can't get anyone on the phone. They do not care about homeowners or helping the service provider. Terrible business practices! Do NOT USE!
Hello Dustin, thank you for your review.
As advised in our previous response through the BBB review you have been informed that your funds will be deposited into the correct account this week. As for last week's funds, we are still awaiting further updates.
Additionally, as mentioned, you are a self-employed contractor, not an employee of our company. We don’t receive notifications when someone on your end updates your information. Any changes would have required access to your login details or device, so the update was processed as though it were you.
I want to clarify that implementing and managing security measures falls outside the scope of our responsibilities. However, I strongly encourage you to take proactive steps to secure your information.
Here are a few recommendations:
> Use strong, unique passwords and update them regularly.
> Enable two-factor authentication where possible.
> Limit access to sensitive data and monitor who can view or modify it.
Thank you for understanding.
Best,
I've been using LawnStarter to service two of my properties, and unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory. Most recently, the lawn care professional failed to show up for a scheduled appointment without any prior notice, leaving me waiting for a service that never happened. To make matters worse, there was no communication about this no-show, which is incredibly frustrating when you expect reliable service.
Communication has been a consistent issue. Five days ago, I asked the professional a question through the LawnStarter app and only received a response this afternoon. Not only was the response delayed, but it also came with an unexpected upcharge for long grass—without any warning or discussion beforehand. I understand that additional fees may apply, but transparency is key, and I should have been informed about any price changes in advance.
I've outlined all of these issues in my communications with LawnStarter, which you can see in the app's inbox for further context. The lack of professionalism, from unreliable scheduling to delayed responses and unexpected charges, is unacceptable.
I also have three other properties that need regular lawn care, but given these ongoing issues, I need much more reliability, communication, and professionalism moving forward if I'm to continue using LawnStarter's services. I hope the company will address these concerns and improve the overall customer experience.
Hi Milton,
Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you and appreciate your feedback. We've reviewed your account and would like to discuss the matter further with you. Please note that you agreed to our Long Grass Fee Policy when you signed up for our services, but we're willing to revisit this with you. We'll be in touch with you soon to discuss the details.
Thank you again for your feedback. Best regards!
Was looking for a one-time mow, their website says they offer a one-time mow. Ask for a quote, they call me and tell me they require a minimum of a three-mow service. I say I'm not interested in that. They text me the next day saying they have an exclusive offer for $19.00 of the first mow, call or click the link. I click the link; it says they offer a one-time mow again. I text them back and they say they require a minimum of three mowing services. I say I'm not interested in deceptive advertising practices; your website says you offer one-time mows. They say thanks, let me know if you change your mind. Ridiculous, honestly.
Thank you for letting us know about your concern, Mitchel. Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly and accurately. Do you mind emailing me at hello@lawnstarter.com with LSREVIEWS-SJ/MM as the subject of your email?
These people are HORRIBLE! Criminals they still your money! They have you sign up for services that they are not sure their contractor are going to do! But they will take your money! Who in the hell wants their yard mowed without getting the grass up when they finish? So they promise you things like this and can't stand on it because they done talk to there contractors! These are supposed to be clipped?
We are sorry to hear about your recent experience with one of our services, Herb. Please know that we are proactively working to improve your experience. We will be reaching out to you soon to make things right.
My yard was supposed to be cut on the 15th. Today is the 17th still no cut or heard from the provider. Now it's saying on App the 17th -19th for cut. I have event today I have had to cancel due to my yard not being cut. Not professional at all. Did poor job when they came on Aug 17th. Damaged my neighbors grass and drove off. Now LawnStarter said I have to track him down. Don't use this company. Not worth the hassle or triggering my PTSD more.

Jeremy did an amazing job working on my lawn. He really pays attention to detail and will do everything he can to leave your property looking nice. I am looking forward to having him continue with his services in the future.
Seeing that you had a 5-star experience is the best thing we could hope for! Your review means a lot to us, Sammy. Thank you for choosing LawnStarter. We look forward to serving your lawn for many years to come!
They only cut the front yard. I tried to text them numerous times with no response. I cancelled service. I went to another loan care app.that had a quicker response time and many more bids. I still had to pay full price for 1/3 of a yard cut, twice.
Aaron, we’re so sorry that your experience did not match your expectations. This is on us. We hope we can make it right. Please let us make it up to you. You can email me at hello@lawnstarter.com with LSREVIEWS-S/AD as the subject of your email, so we can discuss the solution we can offer you.
Jose and team did a great job covering all instructions for my lawn. My backyard is filled with a lot of fruit trees and Small planted plants thru out and once instructed not to cut those Jose did just that. I thank you for your service
Thank you for your kind words, Keith! We're thrilled to hear that Jose and the team did a great job following your instructions and taking care of your backyard. If you were satisfied with the service, we would greatly appreciate it if you could update your review to 4 or 5 stars. Your positive feedback helps us continue to provide excellent service. Thank you again for your support!
I was able to call LawnStarter at around 9:00 at night after receiving notice that my grass was "too high" (I work multiple jobs and rarely have time to mow especially in this heat!) and they answered my questions and walked me through the process to get someone out in the weekend. Then, the person assigned (Pedro Amaya) came a day early and was very helpful, efficient, and did an amazing job! It gave me such peace of mind and now my lawn looks very nice. Thank you so much!
Hello, Gordon! Thank you for leaving a positive rating. We appreciate it!
The LawnStarter business model is not for me. I expect a quote from a pro who looks at my lawn; not an old photo from Google Earth.
The bait-&-switch from Thumbtack.com to LawnStarter is bad; all my required work was ignored.
I should not be robocalled to connect me to a salesman. My phone service screens out robocalls, so those attempts failed. Bad tech.
Thank you for letting us know about your concern, Hunt. Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly and accurately. Do you mind emailing me at hello@lawnstarter.com with LSREVIEWS-Sitejabber/HL as the subject of your email?
Davionne was professional, polite, and helpful. He took care of my lawn quickly and provided me with some inputs for my backyard
Hello, Jose Rafael! We are glad to hear that you are happy with the service you received from Davionne, however, I’m sorry that you feel you had a less than 5-star experience with our company. Could you please email me at hello@lawnstarer.com with LSREVIEWS-ST/JS as the subject of your email as we would like to hear more about your experience and we can turn it to a 5-star experience!
I did a walk-around of my property after Buck mowed and edged, and it looks great! Except for a sizeable chip off my cement back porch that I suspect was from the mower. My house was just inspected on June 3rd and this chip wasn't present. I hope that I can get reimbursed for repairs because I just bought this house and I hate to see it damaged like this.
Hello, Blake. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We already investigated your issue and have an available resolution. We would love to discuss this with you further. We will be reaching out to you soon to make things right. Thank you!
Don't hire these guys. I've been trying to use them for over 3 years and they're NEVER dependable. They will go weeks without showing up, can't keep people and often do a terrible/ uneven mow job. They're going to get you fined if you live in an HOA.
I am very disappointed in the service I received. They did not finish the job, blew wet grass all over my white patio furniture, damaged personal property, and they refused to take accountability. I will never use Lawnstarter again. You can't even reach anyone via phone. I got an email from someone, but she tried to send me on a wild goose hunt to dispute the incident, after already sending in a claim. I never heard back after that email.
They will promise the moon, and deliver nothing. Avoid at all costs, at least if you live in northeastern Ohio… The photo were taken after nearly 4-weeks of no-shows, and a recent obnoxious assertion that the lawn doesn't need to be mowed.

LawnStarter was ok at first, only couple issues, always rescheduled and crew would come later and later in day. Finally ended service when they mowed through our fruit tree, basically cutting it down. They didn't have the common decency to tell us about it, but we found it about 30 minutes after they left. I immediately let LawnStarter know and sent pictures. They basically treated us as liars despite prompt notice and photographic evidence. Then they had us jump through hoops to try and get reimbursed for a new tree. We are still arguing with them about it! Customer service number wasnt helpful in the beginning, didn't do anything to help resolve issue.
Finally after bad reviews I was called, refunded for the service date in question and ensured training would be done to avoid future bad service help.
Answer: This company is a scam, they get your credit card and charge for "extra services you did not request.
Answer: I have spent nearly $200 and my yard still looks like trash. Find someone else to do your yard. These people charge for work they never complete!
Answer: LawnStarter.com does not employ lawn guys. They use contractors that might be in the area and willing to do the work. Neither are responsible for property damages like sprinklers, shattered windows, etc.
