ipsy has a rating of 1.5 stars from 802 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with ipsy most frequently mention customer service, glam bag and credit card. ipsy ranks 104th among Subscription Shopping sites.
Firstly, they sent me a bag of extremely tiny products. Secondly, one of my items were missing, I didn't make it into the bag. Thirdly, 3/4 of the "glam" bag products were lotions. It is a complete rip off. So, naturally I canceled my subscription, well I thought I did. They hit my account this month and charged me for a bag I NEVER got! Good luck trying to reach an actual person to address any issue you may have for the only offer communication via email! They had the nerve to tell me that I will have to send them back the bag I DO NOT WANT, AND foot the shipping! Do not waste your time with this crap service! If I could give 0 stars I would!
I Absolutely LOVE Ipsy. Their customer service is one of the best i've ever experienced. Each month i'm surprised with my bag and NEVER disappointed. Sometimes it makes it easier to not have to shop for makeup. Best $10/month I ever spent. Thanks Ipsy!
I've had an Ipsy subscription, along with my 2 teenage daughter's well over a year. I finally got tired of the same ole products they were sending me so I cancelled it, but when I went to cancel my children's subscriptions, Ipsy would NOT let me cancel them. I tried several times, I went thru ALL their ridiculous steps, with no success, I tried to find a customer service number, which they DO NOT HAVE! The ONLY WAY of contacting them to cancel the subscriptions was an email and I tried that route, in which I had NO success so I finally called my credit card company and put a block on the payments to Ipsy! So my advice is to steer clear of this company!
I signed up for Ipsy about a month Go in hopes of receiving my products soon. As of today I was charged twice, still with no products! Like seriously, if you are going to take someone's money at least send them a "go to hell" note!
I cancelled my Ipsy bag about a year ago due to receiving a lot of products I wasn't interested in. I received an email today about a free ultra matte lipstick from Colourpop, excited, I decided to resubscribe. I clicked the link and it didn't allow me to select the free gift. Frustrated, I contacted them through email but then saw on Facebook that they respond faster on Twitter. I logged on my Twitter that I do not use. I ended up sending 2 tweets by accident due to me not knowing how to use/navigate twitter. I thought it didn't end up sending the tweet since I couldn't find it, but it was found under a different category on twitter (tweets and replies), again, I do not know how to use it. I thought about how they might want a more private message anyways just in case if they need my email, some sort of confirmation, etc. So I messaged them the situation in one message, and then included my email that was associated to my ipsy in a second message. Later today, I received a nasty and rude email saying that I kept overwhelming them and swamping their messages. Seeming like they were implying that it was all my fault they were busy. There's a way to treat paying customers and word and tone messages. I am a pretty understanding person and don't usually say anything, but the way that lady came off I could not stand to be spoke to like that. On top of the fact their email link didn't even work and was pretty sketchy. I am now cancelling my Ipsy completely and will not return, not even with the "free gifts." Therefore I will be taking my business elsewhere to Birchbox and the actual Colour Pop website.
They make you do so much propaganda for them, and they pay you back by not providing quality products for you to try. If you want to try new products and want a similar subscription try Birchbox, they have an actual store in NYC and the products are all good high quality products and brands. The monthly bag ain't worth it!
I'm not sure why they even make you go through beauty preferences. I had Ipsy delivered 3 times, and all 3 times 4 out of 5 items were those I did not indicate in my preferences. Plus they send me the same type products that I need. 3 red glosses, 3 pink blushes... Non of them were in my preferences, but if you decide to send it anyway, do you really have to send it 3 times in a raw? Now I have a bunch of stuff I can't use. Unsubscribing.
I thought it was a good deal, the only thing I got that I won't use is the Luna highlighter. I will use the eyeliner and the under eye makeup, I also got eye shadow so I can't complain. I didn't have to wait to long to get my first Glam Bag. Looking forward to the next one..
I subscribed to ipsy for 6-7 months, and I purchased two ipsy offers. My bag frequently came after the 15th of the month, as they ship FedEx Smartpost. Their website states:
"Products that are not deemed potentially hazardous for air transportation will be shipped via FedEx expedited Air Service. Average Transit time for FedEx expedited shipping is 2 to 5 business days.
Products that are only approved for ground transportation will be shipped via FedEx Ground average Transit time for FedEx ground shipping is 3 to 8 business days."
The ipsy offer I purchased contained no hazardous materials, and took over 10 days to get to me because they shipped via FedEx Smartpost, which is about 3 -4 days slower than ground. When I e-mailed customer service to question this, I was told:
"I do understand your frustration, and it is always our intention to get your order out to you as quickly as possible. When your package gets handed over to our shipping partners, we trust that they will determine the best and safest way to deliver it to you. Since we're not involved in this part of the process, we don't know exactly how long it may take for your package to reach you. I wish I was able to speed up the transit time for you, but at this time, it is out of my control. Rest assured that we stand by the quality of our service, and we will always offer replacements for undelivered products at no cost to you."
So according it ipsy, they only determine which company they use to ship their products to you, but that company decides if it will ship FedEx Expedited, or FedEx Ground, or FedEx Smartpost. I am pretty sure the ipsy is responsible for telling FedEx if they want to ship it Air, Ground or Smartpost. I did not receive a response after I questioned that, so I have canceled my service.
I think this service comes at a great price and I didn't care at all that I didn't know when it was going to come. I was so excited to open it... but the products I received did not match my preferences AT ALL! I received a solid lipstick when I said I was interested in liquid lipstick (although I think I do like it, but still). I didn't check the box for highlighter because I'm NOT INTERESTED and will never use the one I received. I said I wanted brown eyeliner and I received black which I NEVER wear. I said I wanted the "wash off face mask" and I got the sheet kind (again, I don't care too much, but still). What is the point of filling out the preferences if you don't receive products you will ever use? Not to mention the denim/neon orange bag is so juvenile and doesn't open very well because the zipper is short. So disappointed. What am I supposed to do with all of these products that I did not have any interest in at all. It's a waste :(
Today I received my first ever glam bag. I was so excited to open it. I will admit I was instantly disappointed to see that my glam bag was blue denim with an orange zipper. It's not what I had expected since valentine's day is in February and I thought they would have designed the bag idea around that. Then I look at my goodies... eyeliner, that's pretty decent. A blush brush, ok not horrible. Face highlighter, meh I probably won't use that much. Bronzer, that's pretty cool, I'll definitely use that. And 2 soo AE facial masks. Why 2 facial masks? I mean I'm all for facials and good skin but it just seems like they ran out of ideas and thought, just throw 2 masks in. I'm going to have to look over what I checked off because I'm pretty sure I didn't check off skin care to come in my bag as I have my own stuff I use that works with my skin care needs. I really hope March's glam bag is better. Possibly ipsy can work with marketing to have their glam bags around certain holidays, seasons etc... maybe a few times a year make one up? For instance, May could be "flower power" glam bag? October could be "autumn harvest". Just a few of my ideas to make the glam bags more appealing to the customers. Looking forward to my next bag.
I think Ipsy is a great monthly makeup and beauty bag. Ipsy sends you a bag every month filled with new makeup and beauty samples. The purpose of Ipsy is to try out new makeup every month to discover a different product that you might like. You get a cute bag with 5 different makeup items for just $10 a month. Considering how expensive makeup can be that is a very good and affordable price. If you are someone that loves makeup and enjoys trying out different makeup Ipsy is the perfect fit.
Ipsy contains 5 different types and brands of makeup in every bag each month. The brands that they put in are like the samples that you could find at sephora. The samples are usually about 1/3rd of the size of the actual bottle or packaging. Every time I have received my Ipsy or as they like to call it Glam Bag I have always received very nice brands, with good quality. Ipsy is a great way for you to discover new products that you love and that work well for you. Also to make sure they know your skin tone and what brands you enjoy, there is a survey when you first subscribe, about what makeup you would like best to make sure you get products that will most likely work for you. There are other monthly makeup bags like Ipsy, but I would personally recommend Ipsy over the rest to anyone.
The downsides of Ipsy are that sometimes the bags come late, mine comes late often and my friends that are subscribed often get late ones as well. Also it takes a few months to get your first one after you sign up because there is a waiting list. However, I have received Ipsy for about a year now, and the bag has only come late about 3 or 4 times, and was late by about a week or two. The biggest downside about Ipsy is that there has been many problems with cancelling. Many complain that they have poor customer service, and people are usually unable to cancel or continue to get billed after they have cancelled. If you would like to get Ipsy for just a short amount of time I would look into something else because you may have troubles cancelling. Many people have said Ipsy is just a big scam, if you dont like the idea of getting a bunch of samples then I would recommend you look into something else.
Recently signed up and have been put on a waiting list, which is not that big of a deal. The problem I have is the fact that they tell you if you like them on social media they will curry favor to you and move you up the waitlist. How can you like something you've never received? Spoke with my uncle, who is an attorney, and he states that's illegal. Beware consumer!
I love this subscription. The bags alone are worth it, plus now that I've been doing it over a year (and reviewing what I recieve) the products are all geared perfectly towards me.
The complaints I see here don't make sense to me. So it doesn't arrive on the same day every month... Post isn't clockwork, and I'm not relying on sample products in a way that it needs to be perfectly timed... it's just fun to get!
Day by day, we all go to the Mailbox and what's in it... BILLS :(, then once a month you receive this cute bag with "goodies" (facial creams, and/or brushes and/or make up) and its the "happiest day!" I do pay the $10, but is for me is "a gift from me to me", and at the same time, what is in the package is "Diva Goodies Surprises!" I love it! I have been with them for a year, and it is only gotten better. <3
I sooo wish I had done more research and found this site!
I was sick and had time on my hands and my credit card number memorized. So what's a girl to do? Shop!
I found a list of beauty boxes on Flipboard and decided to give it a whirl.
I ordered ipsy and Birchbox. Birchbox sent me a box asap-and I loved it for $10. With ipsy, I got an email telling me I'm on a "waiting list". Seriously?! Why do you offer your product and then say you don't have it!
I got an email that my second Birchbox was on its way and that's when I decided enough. I went to my account-as prescribed by them if you want to cancel and I couldn't get it done! It would take a book to explain all that went wrong and I could not get it cancelled. So, I contacted ipsy "no customer service"-a complete run around. After sending an email asking them to unsubscribe me-I get an email back saying it might be days. And on and on.
I finally got in touch with American Express and found that they had put the $110 charge through so I not only disputed the charge-I paid $9 to a third party company to get it cancelled. I could have waited for Amex to do it and I'm so fed up I wanted it over NOW! It is finally cancelled.
Lesson learned-reasearch!
Thank you all girls for writing these very useful reviews. I randomly found this website and finish all the questions, and I was about to subscribe. Suddenly I just thought, wait, I have to check the reviews first, and almost all of you said they keep charging credit cards even it's unsubscribe. Thanks god I read these and didn't subscribe. Trust a bigger company or at least a famous one is always the better decision.
Love getting my monthly glam bag from ipsy, highly recommend this site, it only cost $10 a month, you get great products from them
I posted this on Ipsy's Facebook 5 days ago and no response
I posted on your Facebook as I'm still getting no response. I posted this last Thursday.:
Yesterday my whole personal email contact list got over 300 emails each from you saying I was referring them. I had no way to contact anyone- I emailed 3 times with no reply. People were getting these on their work computer as I did too. I don't know what happened but I wonder more why no one will get back to me
Hi Kim,
So sorry to hear that your contact list was unintentionally messaged. This bug was flagged last week, and our engineering team is working on a fix. In the meantime, the "Invite All" button on the referral email page has been disabled. Please accept our sincerest apologies. If you haven't received a response from ipsyCare yet, you will shortly. We answer all emails we receive!
I have had Ipsy for over a year. Its gotten better with every bag. I pretty much like everything I get. At least 95% of the time. I do the reviews every month so I continue to get items I like. Only thing kinda going down hill are the points and selection of the items for redeeming points seem to run out way to fast now but other than that (that's why I have 4 out of 5 stars)... Its not that bad. I don't mind some stiff being small. I do get one or two full sized products each month. You get discounts on brands each month, they offer lots of giveaways each month... I don't plan to cancel any time soon. I have dealt with their customer service and I didn't have any issues. They answered all my questions and replaced my missing glam bag when it got lost in the mail. No questions asked. I'm still pretty happy with Ipsy and will continue to be a customer.

Answer: OK well it depends where you live because here in Canada it is $20ish dollars but if you live in the U.S. A then ya it's worth it. The products are really high quality and I havent had any bad products yet. But for me to live in Canada and pay almost $20 dollars, it's kind of pricey. So it really depends on you, where you live and your preferences. Hope this helped

Answer: Rosi, I have been a subscriber for several months. They send samples of many different brands but not Lime Crime. Here are some of the brands: City Color, trestique, NYX, Luxie brushes, Pacifica, star looks, Bella Pierre, Dermelect, be a bombshell, dls, hey honey, Marc Anthony, Eva nyc, MOR hand creme, Clarks botanicals, Avance, epice, belif creme, REN creme, and peek, and Trust Fund. During the ten months I have been a subscriber, I have only received a handful of high end makeup samples: the Balm, tarte, and smashbox. Some people love ipsy, but my experience has shown me that a lot of times they send me products that I don't like or ones that don't match my "beauty profile". So I will probably cancel soon. The products are not counterfeit, though. If I were you, I would not subscribe to ipsy. Hope that helps! -Heather
