The whole experience was smooth, I completely understood what documentation I needed to provide, where to begin the call, what steps were coming up. The interview was very nice, I felt comfortable and listened to. This site should never have required a picture ID and a video selfie upload. This company has all your information on a server that can be stolen by hackers, now they have a picture ID they have a video selfie of you, it's absolutely ridiculous how the government allows Companies to do this. And if they are hacked and your identity is stolen they will never be held accountable for it.
They say they don't want biometrics, but then ask for a video or selfie.
They lack any clarity of how information is protected and how long it is retained.
They lack clarity on any guarantees and consequences about their handling of data.
I found the process the process to be very clear. I had an expired drivers license and wasn't sure if I could use it. The support page was very helpful on how an expired license could be used. The instructions on each step was clear. The agent was easy to understand. I liked how you are notified by email when you are ready go progress to the next step.
Despite issues encountered with getting a selfie accomplished (older person with an older phone!) that would upload, this process was accomplished in less time than the estimate given. The information needed wasn't any more than doing a tax return and the format was straightforward and easy to understand. The live video chat with an agent was pleasant and the final verification was completed in very little time.
My experience was nerve braking but I got passed it as well as I came to realization on what made me so nervous and I now will give myself some time to work on what I think I must work on within myself in order for me not be some nervous of a situation like that one that I just recently had. Per say What I believe that I must work on would be for example, how to use my front camera more correctly while being on a video call, another thing would be to be more prepared by having the correct tools that I need in order for me to not leave the phone call video, and stay focused on not just hearing but as well staying on the camera video face to face with out having to put the phone to the side and to be more fluent with the words that come out of my mouth. The young lady who was on the call with me was patient with me because my laptop camera wasnt on and Im not that good with computers Im still learning but she helped me by going to the phone which was easy for me. I appreciate her for that. Thank you please dont change.
It took me at least 30 mins or more to access my account. Not sure why but it did. Seems like if I already was an active participant I should have been able to access it without trouble. Saved the password on my computer too.
Like a lot of computer processes it is cumbersome and confusing and may not work the first time through. Why would anyone go through the hassle unless it was required? It's good that entities try to verify your identity, but like going to the dentist, id.me may be good for you but it's not especially a fun thing to do.
I already had a login due to My HealthVet so I needed to take a selfie to create the secure login. If you are not disabled like me the selfie will be a snap. In the end you will have a secure easy login.

It stinks and complicated for older Veterans. Every time you go on MY Health Vet they change the code on you instead of giving you a code that you can use all the time. And if you do not have a cell phone you are out of luck!
The company ID.me and the people there are great. My criticism is of government system design. If an individual is dependent on a program it cannot be gated through biometrics. Because biometrics cannot be changed. The coercion is too strong. An alternative not designed as a compliance-by-convenience approach must be available.
All very easy and straightforward -- but I haven't the slightest idea why this site, intended to give users absolutely confidence in the security of their tax information, is run by some private operation called "ID.me" rather than by the IRS. Is ID.me Chinese? North Korean? Run by Musk or some other dubious character? Nothing on the site gives any reason for confidence on any of this.
Because I'm not familiar with the program and don't totally understand it I believe it is confusing to say the least. In defense of the program I think once I get the know how's of it it will be good. But not knowing what it can do without reading a book on the subgect and not having HUMANS to help make it at least for me difficult
Excellent it was confidential I respect a quiet place to do me. It real easy for how ever to steal your identity. And that's why I trust biometrics. It's a thing about in town people are up to any thing for your life, finances.
It will do what it's supposed to as long as the IRS has Current Contact Information on you. In most people's cases they have 10 year old phone #'s on file making the 2 step verification near impossible until you get ahold of the IRS (Never fast nor Simple) and Update them with Current contact info for yourself. Which is an ordeal in itself.
