I had an extremely satisfying experience using I.D. Me as a source to access my identity for social security disability information. The website in my opinion is very secure and fast, and i would highly recommend this procedure to others to use for identification.
Relatively simple and straight forward with access to many different Federal agencies that offer different services. Logging on and logging off is not difficult and the experience was not terribly time consuming. Compared to the other login service which i finally gave up on because of the difficulty in completing their process, this was straight forward and simple.
Took the time to talk to other users, most whom were not able to get it to work. I previously ordered all med thru MY HEALTHY VET. Never had a problem. Went to VA and saw 18 vets waiting for meds, took 2 hours. Never more then 2 vets waiting. This system will cost the VA. Another bad decision by the Government.
I accidentally created an IP pin on my taxes several years ago. The IRS failed to send me my pin number, and in order to access it, I have to submit to their facial recognition software and upload identity documents through a third party website. Huge invasion of privacy and hassle just to be able to file a standard US tax return, as required by law.
The results are good, but the process took way to long. Many seniors will have problems with verifying their ID to meet the new Social Security requirements, and while ID. Me works people should expect it to take some time.
Getting approved on Id.me for access to MySocialSecurity was a real pain. The process took nearly a month to complete. Their system kept rejecting my documents, and when finally approved, the final step of video chat with an agent was delayed an additional 8-10 days.
Once the video chat ended, the agent said I was approved but when signing back in to Id.me, my account was suspended. It took another 6 days for my complaint to be handled, and this happened only after I gave a bad review on LinkedIn.
There was just a kind of small hiccup with the camera and mic permissions using Edge, but it was possible to switch to the phone, and continue the process.
With Login.gov (as with ID.me) taking still photos of the driver license didn't work. I tried all sorts of stuff, and with both it didn't work.
But with ID.me it was possible to wait a bit of time (it was about 45 minutes for me on a Wednesday night about 10:15 p.m. Eastern to about 11:00 p.m. Eastern), and then the process itself went pretty quickly. Maybe about 3 or 4 minutes perhaps.
I recently filed out similar info for federal sites via login. Gov and then specifically for Social Security. I believe login. Gov is also gateway for Veterans sites. Using ID. Me seems (at best) redundant. Since it is not government-run, also seems risky.
This is one of the worse "identity verification" websites I have dealt with yet. They should do better. Nothing worked, it was excruciatingly difficult to get the the ID photos uploaded and the video interface was awful. I have a brand new iPhone 16, and a new laptop, so that wasn't the issue. The "Chat Room" CSR left me hanging. The entire experience was terribly time-consuming and extremely frustrating. C'mon, man!
Human interface was helpful. Be familiar with your browser video-enabling steps- the video interface is NOT Zoom or FaceTime, but presumably a secure proprietary program.
Uploading scanned documents is the same as in other applications. The staff will guide you in making them legible over video. Log in to whichever service you opened the door to with this process to confirm success. Overall a relatively painless process. Monday AM was a surprisingly good time to access the video call. Preparations (document uploads) can be completed a day or two in advance.
I was using ID. Me to access the IRS Direct File service and appreciated how few steps there were to create the account. There was a bit of a wait if you don't have a smartphone (like me), but the system did its job.
It was a very easy and simple process. Customer Service was very clear in speaking and in her directions through out the process. The customer service representative was very friendly and her energy put my mind at ease during the process. I would refer anyone that I know and or don't know to make an account via this website so that your mind is at peace during the process of filing taxes.
Overall, the tool was easy to use for my purposes. Definitely easier to use than other similar tools I've used for sites like Experian for identity verification. However, it took me multiple tries to get a video selfie accepted, I think it was because of the lighting in my video. But the error message was vague, so I had to retry with limited direction. Eventually it went through, but it was still annoying
Anyone who has a camera with low quality is automatically not going to be able to access their information. Also when doing the video call it seems very personal to show my information through the camera. If you're going to make me show my information through the camera why make me go through the hassle of uploading over and over again if I have to just show it on video anyways.
Very time consuming and difficult to navigate, I mean it took me totally 6 hours on the computer with help from an IT person 2 hours. When one has retired you use the computer for banking purpose or just browse for information in general or shop. I can speak for myself that when you develop these systems you are not aware that people who are not working and retirees are not very computer savvy. Its not a one size fits all so to speak.
Despite me using a desktop computer without a webcam or microphone, the agent communicated one-way with me over my desktop computer and got the video call working over my mobile phone.
I was also happy that, previously, the system correctly rejected my photo of my Social Security card (because it was actually my Medicare card).
Although some waiting was involved, I spent most of my wait time doing productive things, and checking me email only periodically.
I would like to favorably contrast my experience with ID. Me with my experience attempting to directly access ssa. Gov, where part of the process involved snail mailing me an Authentication Code (for which I am still waiting; I think their snail is tired and overworked).
It was very easy to use. I am not tech savvy but did not have any problems. It guides you through the process. You get a code sent to your phone to enter into the site. I was not intimidated at all by the technology.
Rather than take a picture of your id on your smart phone then somehow get it to your computer then attach it to an email then wait... All you do is use your cell to take the pic and send it then go back to your PC and finish the registration. How clever and innovative. These id. Me people are really thinking!
The ID. Me system needs to be made more easily to sign in. I'm 77 years young and it's frustrating to continue trying to sign in when after 3 attempts you are locked out of the system and have to wait x number of hours. Now we have the correct ID information when signing in why are we being punish trying to sign in.
Fast easy log in. Fast easy verification. Fast easy connection to where I wanted to go. Can't give the service more than 3 stars because I don't like having to jump through verification hoops when the entire web and dark web knows everything about me already anyway. A ridiculous fictional farce, but at least it finally works right.
