I Have been using them for 9 years. After 2020 my taxes were withheld when I called them to ask what was going on. They got an attitude and refused to answer me. They had no problem taking their fees out of my state refund while my federal was being withheld. Not to mention they don't give any discounts or incentives to long term clients. Being a single self employed mother I find it absolutely ridiculous that their fees jump around so much. Paying 553.00 to have them done in 2020, And last year 520.00. So this year I decided to go with a program of those of low income to see my refund. They make a big deal to advertise maximizing your refund. When in reality they can give you the same amount you can get from free programs. This is not to mention. The people working on your taxes are those who are retired or needing extra money. Needless to say I've gone through so many who have worked there, And most of them don't look like they have the mind to be doing taxes. They constantly ask others for help. Definitely not somebody that I would be paying so much money for with little professionalism. I make sure everything is organized and written all out. All They're doing is putting it in the computer. So my question is why are they charging so much when there's nothing special they're doing.

H&R Block charged me $600 to file my taxes at the office. $600. It only took about an hour or so. I was told the service would cost around $80-120. Absolutely unreal. This place is a scam.

I payed to have my taxes taking care of and it sounded like a good idea don't wait at your mail box it's been 2 months and days on the phone trying to get my refund they gave me a number I don't want a case I just want my refund thanks

Frustrated to deal with. Will not let me view nor print my "free" tax returns. I will never use them again. No wonder the rating they get

H&R Block is a collection of nice tax accountants who have zero competence to write and maintain software. I e-filed my taxes in mid- February with downloaded H&R Block software after it repeatedly indicated there were no errors or problems with the return. From my end, the submission froze in IRS servers and has stayed that way for over three weeks. At the H&R end, the IRS informed them that their software created an error in my filing (a fake report of rental income, when none existed) and told them within five minutes of my submission that it had been rejected. Since that moment, my return has been listed as pending in their software and the software will not allow resubmission.

The worst part of this company is that they only pretend to offer customer support. At least half the time, the staff that answers the phone almost immediately hangs up on a customer (in fairness, the staff seem to have to create a new case number for each call and that step seems to trigger disconnection). The basic staff seems nice, but innocent of any technical expertise or basic support practices (like looking up the case record before having a caller repeat every detail with every call, all while denying this problem could exist when the record clearly indicates that it does). The frontline staff must consult two different systems to respond to customers (one accessed with email, the other accessed by social security number), and some staff members seem unaware the second system exists. And most ridiculously, the technically competent staff can be accessed by the basic staff only by sending short text messages. In my last call, the staff member sent some 9 short messages over the course of an hour, with the technical staff reading only minor details of my case and giving nonsensical responses that frustrated the person trying to help me even more than they did me.

A firm with this structure and these systems is designed to fail. The front line staff answering the phone is unable to do anything other than spew lies fed them by the technical staff. Examples:

• a March 2nd update for federal forms would fix the problem – no it did not.
• my case was escalated to the mysterious technical staff and they would respond directly to me in two days – never received any response at all
• actually, it would take the technical staff five days to respond, not two – again, no response ever received
• the IRS would automatically clear my tax return after three weeks and reject my return so I could fix the H&R Block created error – nothing of the sort occurred.

The one detail where the support staff was consistent and clear is that no refund would be provided for my purchase of the software. H&R Block takes zero responsibility for its product and is nothing but a monstrous waste of time and money. The only worse outcome here would have been for me to wait until early April to file my taxes with their software. As it is, I can purchase TurboTax and start over from scratch.

We've been going to the H&R Block in Somerville, NJ for years to do our taxes but our last experience with them left us angry and disappointed. They guarantee our taxes would be filed accurately, however, when the IRS indicated we filed an item incorrectly and need to pay, H&R Block was unresponsive to the numerous follow ups we made. So unprofessional and do not own up to their mistake. We will never use H&R Block again.

They made a mistake on my taxes and I had to pay back almost $1500.00 from 2021. I was charged interest also. I went to H&R Block to show them their error and I was to have been reimbursed at least for the interest. Well 3 months later and at least 20 calls (no exaggeration) and 4 case numbers - still nothing. Their service is unbearable - total incompetence and the gentleman in the Flatbush Avenue location totally has ignored me and just checked out. Never even responded to emails. This whole thing has been so unprofessional - believe me if you ever need them there is no accountability, no reliability and no caring about the customer. Horribly run business! Use someone else...

There were strange duplications and I racked my brain trying to correct my mortgage interest entry after it was entered in as access mortgage interest and then was being counted twice. Also every time I turned around they were adding costs. Even to transfer my refund into my bank account. The fees started at $35.00 and ended up $177.00 and I did all the work. Never again. After 27 years of using H&R block I will go with any other program next year but this one.

I have used H&R Block for 20 years and love their service. However this year I had to submit a fraud claim. I wake up to several text messages saying there were transactions being made with my emerald card. I call immediately as I was asleep and my card was in my purse next to Mr. I cancel my card and was told by their representative she was sending the info to dispute/fraud department and I should have my money back in 4 days. On the 4th day I call to check the status of my dispute and was told to report fraud I had to speak with a separate department. They transfer me to said department. My fraud claim was denied. I appeal the denial and was denied again. I was told by a rep today it was denied because I get test alerts and didn't report the fraud until several days later. They do not care about your money once it's on your card and they have taken theirs out. I'm so disappointed. I will be finding another tax service.

2020 everything was lost and I had to start all over this time with CD. On 2021 I had to reenter everything. 2022 there is a glitch. Program is stuck I called over 8 times and created a case. Every time I call they say someone will contact you in 3-5 business days. I can't wait any longer I have to get my taxes done. When they call me I'm sure I'm away from my laptop and unable to do what they want me to do. Very bad service.

I've been banned from H and R Block on their Facebook page for 5 yrs now since I wrote a review of my experience at their Lake Geneva WI office. In a nutshell, I was quoted a price of $125 to do my taxes and when it came time to pay I was charged $425. I was treated extremely rudely when I was questioning as to why the price had changed, I paid it so my taxes would be filed on time but felt sick to my stomach about the situation so I did call corporate and was treated badly in that conversation as well. The whole experience was awful and to this day I warn people about this company.

The worst experience I've ever had.
I made four trips to the offices, and still, my returns aren't right. I will never use this company again.

They are just horrible! After being very quick to introduce me to all of the "premium features" that they have including "Peace of mind" and then take my money promptly with a sentence "No refund" in the receipt, I was never able to hear back from the "tax pro" who prepared my case, and when I called to inquire, the "supporters" said that they do not have my records in the system and responded with a "I don't care", hypocritical attitude. The conversation then ended with "your case has been escalated; wait 3-5 business days to hear back either by phone or emails". Anyone who went through similar stuff knows that this could be forever. I just realized what a "peace of mind" waste of money that I just threw out of the window working with them. Such a bad business! Here's a piece of advice: you either do it well or don't do it if you want people's money! Instead of trying to get as many customers as possible just so that you don't have time to take good care of a bunch of them, scale back and treat your customers like humans; not cows from which you milk quick money!

If I could give H & R block zero stars, I would. They are a predatory company who targets poor people. They bait you in with a "no interest loan" against your tax refund, get you to pay exorbitant money for them to prepare and e file a simple return only to tell you that… oops, we messed up and didn't process it as a "rapid refund". So now, you've spent a quarter of your refund for them to prepare and e file your taxes AND you have to pay extra in order to pay them from your refund! So, you could have used another service yourself and paid far less to use the service. I am a social worker. I work with victims of domestic violence. One of my clients is homeless because they are fleeing abuse. This disgusting company is targeting people just like this, people that needed money yesterday, because they are homeless and hungry, only to be taken advantage of. My client was under the impression he was going to receive a 'rapid refund' so he agreed to pay $245.00 for a $890.00 return. When he didn't receive the money, he was told that they 'made a mistake' and they didn't process it correctly for a 'rapid refund'. So, he will have to wait 21 days for his return. He could have gone on a tax prep website and done it himself for far less money and get the return in the same amount of time. It's absolutely disgusting! People should know, this is who H & R Block is targeting. People who are struggling financially, who will pay more money to get money, which, by the way, IT'S YOUR MONEY! You are getting a refund because you overpaid your taxes. They are disgusting predators! Please, think twice about using this POS business!
H & R Block, I want you to know, I am going to leave my review everywhere I can possibly leave a review on the internet, including, the Better Business Bureau. And, I am going to email all my local news stations about this as well. Big company like yours, ripping off DV victims? Disgusting! I bet there are more victims out there.

They gave been doing.my taxes for three years. Started out fine but last year my taxes were dropped way early in the tax season and I did not hear from anyone co.e April 15th. When I called they said my information was sent to a different office. Did not receive my return info until may. Was charged late fees by the state & federal government,& was issued a fefund from federal for over a thousand dollars due to over payment, hence the title incompetent!

Can't manage there appointments and we're supposed to trust them with our money? Waited 45 min past my appointment time they only had one person working in the entire office in the middle of tax season got so pissed off I got up and walked out I'm done with them

I would give NO STARS I've been going to them for years I've never in my life been screwed by the until this year they approved my loan in Nov but denied my advance 1st and foremost when doing my taxes they said I'd pay 285 for filing fee (crazy I only pay them to do i so I can get the advance so I paid them for something I could have done) they said I owed them 401 for the loan now when I call they are saying the are taking more WTF and they have my money and just holding IVE NEVER USED A PREPAID OR REAL BANK JUST HOLD MY MONEY JUST BECAUSE I'm calling around about this asap and this was my last year with them.
Never again they are shady and will screw u over.
