The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, primarily due to its customer service and booking policies. While some long-term users appreciated the initial value and rewards system, recent changes have led to frustration, particularly regarding the loss of rewards and the ineffectiveness of customer support. Common complaints include poor communication, unresponsive service, and issues with misrepresented hotel listings. Customers frequently reported feeling unsupported during disputes with hotels, leading to a growing sentiment that the company prioritizes profits over customer care, prompting many to seek alternatives for their travel needs.

I have never booked through a third party and this would be my first and last time! Horrible customer service unwilling to accommodate, I even asked to speak to the manager and she was completely unprofessional and unwilling to hear what I had to say! SAVE YOUR MONEY NEVER AGAIN!
I saw a deal for a hotel in Colorado for 130.00 one night, I booked it for that amount they advertised Then the following day they charged my card for 177.00 dollar I called them and they said they could not refund my money because the cancellation time period already passed? By the way hotels.com and Expidia are the same company. For this same trip I made a car reservation thru Expidia for around 200 dollars then later they sent me an email saying " we hate when this happen rates went up and it will be 400 plus dollars". I cancelled of course. How can this companies get away with stuff like this? Isnt any regulations that protects the consumers? I wont be using any of this scamers for sure!
I booked a hotel room July 24,2017. Later that same day, I found a better hotel at a better price so I cancelled. On July 26,2017, the hotel charged me a deposit of one nights stay. However, as of Aug. 2,2017, I had not received my refund. I called Hotels.com which told me they called the hotel, but could not get an answer. The email they were going to send me, never came, so I called again and was told the same thing and I should call my CC company to get this removed. Well I decided to call the hotel directly and they kindly refunded me my money. Hotels.com lied to me 2 times. I have another reservation under Hotels.com and I sure hope all goes well, especially if I have to cancel it again. Call the hotel directly instead of using Hotels.com
An amazing man named Joey has totally turned around my opinion of this company. He spent nearly an hour with me helping me with an issue. Totally changed my mind about HOTELS.COM
I did a cancellation for a hotel 8 days before the hotel's cancellation deadline and booked another hotel. They did not send a cancellation email, a box just popped up that said "Your reservation has been cancelled" and I booked another hotel. Only to come home and check my online statement to see that a 3rd party site that I had never heard(htg) of charged my account for the cancelled hotel. I tried to call the company (including the 3rd party affiliate) to no avail. When I asked for a corporate number I was told by a "supervisor" that they did not have that information (which a quick google gave me), and he was as high as I could go in the company. Definitely beware of this site. I will definitely not use this company ever again. This is not the first bad experience I've had but the final draw. If I could post with no stars I would.
I spent 5 nights at different hotels by booking via Hotels. Com. ( I even logged in my account). My 5 nights staying were NOT added to the rewards nights. Even just a week later of my last staying date, the agent refused to add my points and just told me," sorry, nothing can be fixed since my booking was already completed and my account was not set".? Then, why did I get a confirmation from Hotels.com at each reservation to my email? Very disappointing experience.
I did my reservation after 12 Midnight for the same day. When asked for a credit card to complete the reservation. It states that the card will not be charged till we check in at the hotel.
Cancellation policy did not pop out till the reservation was confirmed to find out that cancellation policy is by 5am the day before the check in date. Means if I have to cancel I should cancel my reservation 19 hours before it was made.
In the afternoon, my family trip route was changed so I called hotels.com to move our reservation to a different hotel because we will not stop at that location. We were told to call he hotel directly which I did to be informed that I need to call hotel.com again which I did again. I tried to reason with the customer service but all were unprofessional. They hanged the phone up as soon as I asked for their names or I asked for a supervisor. I could not get anywhere. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Of course I was charged the amount by the hotel which I am disputing but I now I am going to end-up paying it.
WILL NEVER USE AGAIN IF IT WAS THE LAST WEBSITE OUT THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES..
Basically long story short, we were mislead by the type of room we booked on hotels.com and the actual room we got at the hotel. Thumbs down one star to this awful travel site.
My husband arrived at the hotel and found that the other people he was traveling with had a rate $60 less than his ($159 vs. $99) for two nights. They had booked directly with the hotel. I called and was basically told "too bad". Don't use hotels.com. Their guarantee is totally bogus. They won't honor it no matter what you do. I think we need a class action suit.
They lie, deceive, don't keep to their word, and have horrible customer service. We called the hotel directly and saved almost $30 a night!
I booked a room at Holiday Inn express through Hotels.com for one of our family vacation for four nights. Something came up and we had to check out a day early. I brought it up with Holiday Inn Express as soon as I knew about our early check out and they asked me to call Hotels.com.
I called them and hotels.com said everything is taken care of. After couple of days found that the hotel charged me for the night I didn't stay. When I called the Holiday Inn Express, they asked me to call Hotels.com and they will fix it. Hotels.com directed me back to Holiday Inn Express again.
This has been going on for two weeks now, neither Holiday Inn express nor Hotels.com, refunded my money so far.
This was my first time using Hotels.com, and it has been very unpleasant. Same with Holiday Inn express. I am really disappointed at hoe such big brands can get away with such unpleasant experiences. Lesson learned for me, never stay at Holiday Inn and also never use Hotels.com to book a hotel.
I'm done with these guys. Every hotel you book is non changeable, non-cancellation policy. The free nights you're promised never materialize. I've had 8 nights wiped out from my points and have spent weeks getting anyone to speak to me. These guys need more than a lousy web review they need to be investigated. Disgusted and done with this company.
We had booked our room in advance, almost three weeks in advance, and an hour before we were going to reach our hotel, hotels.com calls us (a family of 2 adults, 2 teens, three kids, and an infant) and tells us that our room was gone because the hotel was overbooked, we were extremely mad and instead of hotels.com bumping us up to a better hotel because of their mistake, they gave us a very bad 2 star hotel(2 stars worse than the one we had paid for and half the cost of what we paid for) we hated the experience and will never book through any of these "hotels.com" or "expidia" and we will make sure everyone we know will book from the actual hotel and never book through hotels.com. NEVER BOOK THROUGH HOTELS.COM! This is how they make money. They would NOT give us a room a little more expensive than the one we got for our size family, and lied saying "all the hotel rooms in san antonio were booked" really? They refused giving us a room as good as the one we bought (ended up getting one half the cost and stars) and even hung up on us multiple times
Reading these reviews have totally out me off of this site. Prices change every day, it seems a lot of people get screwed over. Often I've booked something and can't login because their system is down or the reservation doesn't load which is very worrisome after receiving an email confirmation for the booking. Every time I call it's difficult to get support because of language difficulties. If you find a cheaper deal on their site with a promo they won't change the price for you, you have to cancel and rebook yourself with a promo for a cheaper price. Too risky for me, just cancelled everything altogether and went with another third party site.
I usually use bookings.com and have had great experience. I booked one hotel in Paris on hotels.com for $180/night. When the confirmation came in euros, I got kind of confused about the translation rate. When my charge bill came, the hotel charge was $222/ night. I called and they said the difference was taxes. All I know is that every booking I made on bookings.com came in at the exact rate I booked. I will not use these guys again.
I booked a hotel room from Hotels.com they charged my credit card non refundable gave me a confirmation #. Arrived at hotel after 6 hour drive hotel did not have a reserved room for me looked at confirmation # and said # is not good not from there hotel. Hotels.com is a scam stay away.
Their Free Night 'Program is a WASTE and they have bad customer service. You can pretty much get their same prices elsewhere.
I scheduled a trip... it has a no cancellation policy. I had to change the date. I called Hotels.com and they were so accomodating! They got the date changed. Which is why I was surprised to find out I was charged twice by the hotel. Hotels.com would not refund me the money. I never cancelled my trip, I only modified the date. BUYER BEWARE!
All the infos on hotels.com are fake concerning extra things, i booked in NH barcelona centro, and asked for an extra bed as a special request as on hotels.com they say its available for free, turns out in the hotel its paid but hotels.com wanna make some kind of a marketing strategy so that people book with them.
I booked again in valencia, they say that there is extra beds in the hotel subject to availability of space in the room, turns out that the hotel doesnt wven have extra beds from the first place.
I dont recommend anyone to book with hotels.com anymore if they dont want to be fooled and oay an extra room at the reception if they were luxky enough to find one LOL
Not only that, hotels.com DIDNT EVEN SEND THE REQUEST TO THE HOTEL
I used hotels.com to reserve 2 rooms for my family. When i arrived at the hotel, i found out that the rooms were smoking rooms. I asked the guy from the front desk to give me non-smoking rooms and he said that he cannot do it and i have to contact hotels.com for help. I contacted hotels. Com and talked to 5 different people and no one helped. They refused to switch the smoking rooms for a non-smoking rooms and they did not refund my money either. My family and i including my 4 months old baby had to spent the night in smoking rooms. This was the worst hotel stay for us and i will never use hotels.com again in the future.
Answer: If your arrogant enough then you can apparently lie as much as you want. I have many emails from them with countless lies and different information and on my booking they said they can only offer a refund if the hotel agrees, so the hotel contacted them and said to refund the booking, and Hotels.com responded saying they would not refund as it is not the hotels policy. Arrogant liars, thieves cheats and scammers.
Answer: Just did this with a free cancellation. My plans changed and when I tried to cancel they wouldnt homer the free cancelation. They said they didnt honor ir on the same day as arrival. Just a lie in advertzing. Be ware!
Answer: They lie through their teeth and don't follow through Another scam I would say
Answer: That's a lie. You would have gotten a better price at the hotel itself and then you would be able to see what it actually looks like. Alot of false advertising on hotels.com and their sister sites expedia.com and booking.com do not use those sites
