Scam company
May 6, 2021

For a small company this is the worst decision I made. In 5 months we received ZERO projects from them and spent $800, about $160/month. Can't get out of the contract and NOBODY is answering our emails. Please stay away from them, hung up the phone if they call you. NIGHMARE!

Homestars is a website that allows consumers to post reviews of businesses, unfortunately due to lack of control over the validity of these reviews it allows business to bait unsuspecting innocent customers with the illusion of great reviews that they have posted themselves (anyone can an account with an email address and post a review). For my experience with this website and HDB Interiors (the flooring broker I found and used through this website) go to www.hdbsucks.com.

Stay away from Homestars
November 19, 2019

This is cheating company.
If you want to put your ad in Homestars be carefull. Initially, They charge your money without any agreement. After that if you ask question about agreement they put your
Signature on the agreement without your permission and lie you that you put signature yourself. You even do not know the terms of the contract.
Their contract is for the whole year only and without your right to cancel it.
They will charge money without your permission.
Stay away from this cheaters.
More over, they do not give you any leads. They do not put 5 stars reviews from your clients.

House Addition

Hi my name is Mesmer I got an addition put on my house by Classic View Home Renovation, they did a good job. They were clean and on time. My wife and I, we're very lucky to work with Omri. He is very friendly and they completed the project on time. The work was done on a budget that was agreed on. He never would ask us for extra money. I highly recommend Omri and is team to anyone looking to hire a contractor and the team classic view. Thank you

Home stars- Scam

Beware-Home star contractors are scammers. Have no carpenter lience.no trade School. All arecon artist. Its own family members, Cons write own 5 star reviews. Use fake names. Any 1 star Reviews are deleted. I see home star Contractors hire outsiders to get there own Houses fixed. Homestar scammers are out scamming you, retired And dumb customers. They lost there sale jobs in last recession. Its 1 star reviews that count.

If you are contractor and looking for jobs. Don't make agreement with them. If you broke down. They give you collection for nothing. Be carefull

Contractors Beware!

I wish you could put a negative beside the star! This company does not even deserve a one star. They put the payment through literally 30 seconds after hanging up the phone - before "onboarding" or being "verified". Onboarding was scheduled and the rep didn't show up TWICE on the arranged virtual meeting - no apology. Two weeks into the first month - still no onboarding or verification. During our initial call with the account manager he explained if you aren't "verified" they will refund our money because that is a big selling feature to potential clients. Our verification was denied due to past DUI back in the 90s. They wanted a police check - we explained it would still show up - why incur the extra expense!? We did it anyways just to confirm and get our money back. We sent emails to them that didn't get answered until WE followed up a week later (but again they sure put the payment through fast). Now they are claiming the police check via a 3rd party is not sufficient! Every turn with these people is another excuse as to why they wont refund our money. We are a small business who thought this company was reputable - WRONG! Extremely poor customer service - didn't follow through on their committee to onboard, didn't verify, didn't respond in a timely professional manner - took our money and ran! Which is what we are advising you to do RUN! Read the other reviews. Save your money and frustration dealing with such a scam of a company! I will do whatever it takes to save another person from falling victim to this scam of a company!

We hired AJ Upgrades to sand and stain a portion of our deck. Anthony only did 1/8 of the job, then for various family reasons (his stories not verified) walked away and took our $1425 deposit. Despite his promises, the balance was not returned to us. Now HomeStars refuses to publish our review, because it was negative. If was as follows below. Therefore, are all of their subscribers reliable. I can only say NO THEY'RE NOT.
My wife and I hired the owner of AJ Upgrades in Courtice and gave him a deposit of $1425 to buy the products to sand and stain the upper half of our deck. Altogether he applied a 1st coat of stripper to 400 sq/ft of 600 sq/ft. Then the excuses came, for over a month. Dog got sick, kids got sick, father got sick, all while promising to finish the job. Then he backs out and promises that he'll return $1200 to us. This now left the job in our hands to finish it before the cold weather. Despite many attempts to contact him, no replies or return of our money. Our advice is to stay away from dealing with AJ Upgrades. Ron Daniels. 8 Brand Court, Ajax

Joe V and Jacob S performed well in the removal of the old and installation of a new furnace in my home. After installation clean up was good. However, I was totally displeased, and grossly displeased with them for neglecting to restore the gas supply to both my water heater and fireplace. The hot water issue was resolved with the assistance of an independent technician as Reliance seemed, through their customer service area, not to to give a damn about us being without hot water. The fireplace was not much of an issue as it is not yet that time of year when it becomes a priority.

The one good thing in this whole mess is that when Joe V realized that they had left my home without having restored hot water and the fireplace, he called on Saturday last and advised that he would would return to my home early in the week to re-light the fireplace. He did keep his word and turned up at my home today.

I have had my water heater and furnace replaced by Reliance within a month of each other, and had issues with problems created by their technicians on both occasions.

My air conditioning unit which was purchased from Reliance less than a year ago is now showing signs of loosing its coolant. It is scheduled to be repaired Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30.

While the technicians who work for Reliance appear to be well versed in their respective trades, it appears that they need further training to ensure that their work areas are left in such a state that would negate the need for complaints.

My company signed a one year contract with Homestars (their minimum) and we eventually cancelled it after 7 months, paying out 35% of the remaining contract to do so.

There were leads and we did end up getting one single job from the leads, which didn't cover the cost of the contact. From my experience, the leads are looking for the cheapest contractor they are put in contact with, which isn't us and we weren't going to drop our pricing to get the leads to use our services. If you are a contractor who is cut throat in your pricing, then Homestars is for you!

You have to constantly maintain your page, hassle customers for reviews, etc. If you're busy and don't have time to put into your profile, don't bother!

When we decided to cancel, communication from the Homestars staff was absolutely non-existent, to the point where I had to contact my bank to have a stop payment put on our credit card. The day before our regular billing date, they finally reached out and although they tried to keep us on at a cheaper rate, we wanted nothing more to do with them.

I do not recommend Homestars to any contractors. Find a better place to invest your advertising and promotional dollars.

We are a flooring company in Alberta Canada who had been with homestars for many years since 2014 and their site is actually a really good site for a contractor because it does keep the review system very honest but when we ask to be released from there premium services they continued to bill us for a month that went unpaid because we cancelled our service and what they did is quite legal in Canada is they adjusted our hard earned profile showing that we were no longer a trustworthy company which in Canadian law is called extortion, because now what they were doing is they were extorting money from us in turn to give us a better rating.

We then as a board of directors put a call into homestars and demanded they remove our profile after 5 years of hard customer service work to get our profile where it was they ruined our rating because of one month payment. The service itself is very good up until the customer service for managers who look out for contractors. The business practice over extorting money from contractors who miss a payment is absolutely not a good business practice as. Company may end up missing out on customers or it may permanently damage the reputation so this is not a good business practice and for that reason and not reason Only We are giving homestars a very bad review for it impacted our customers and we ended up missing out on a couple of major jobs because of the way they handled this whole situation.

I started with Homestars in 2018, did 3 or 4 years with them, won best of awards. It was ok for my business back then and they use to care about their contractor. I took a break for a year because the leads and service from them became an absolute joke. Then don't ask me why in early Jan 2023 I decided to re-subscribe. I realized almost instantly that HomeStars had become an ever-bigger joke. The guy on the phone when I resubscribe was lying through his teeth to get me on board. Put a 550/month payment on me saying that I would have ONLY quality leads. I have had a bunch of fake leads empty leads and completely ridiculous leads with no budget like 50$ jobs. Absolutely absurd. I have asked since the first month to lower my cost at the minimum and they are playing def, again not answering back. Oh and don't even show up to the meeting that they set up. Wasted my morning waiting on that Apoorva Balantrapu girl (To be polite). Never showed up. Never answer her phone or email. And yeah they want to charge me 1800$ to cancel my subscription, is that even legal? I think I will. These crooks are making my blood boil.

Baz Aluminun Inc. - Eavestroughs and Downspouts
November 14, 2022

I retained Baz Aluminum ("Baz") to fix a leaking problem in the eavestrough on the side of my semi-detached rental house. In the winter leaking waster forms ice on the ground and huge icycles from the roof which is a danger to several people using daily this path. The solution for the problem was agreed on. The front didn't require any correction as there were no leaking eavestroughs there. When the work was completed on Oct. 13/22 it became clear the not only the existing problem was not fixed but a new potentially even greater one was created by Baz. They created 2 additional leaking spots on the front with water coming on mine and my next-door neighbors' front stairs. This is a huge liability problem for me. As a result, I withheld payment cheque to Baz subject to their executing the original job as agreed and fixing the problems they themselves created. Baz promised to do it. They showed up once in my absence even though I asked to be informed of their arrival. Not clear what was done but all the problems still persist. Baz became quite aggressive with me and requested payment when I mentioned this. After I sent him proof of continuing leaks, he promised to come in the week Nov. 5-11/22. I reminded him of this on Friday Nov. 11 but didn't get his response. They didn't show until today and stopped responding to my correspondence. My opinion is that this is an unreliable and likely incompetent operator and doesn't deserve even the 1 star I gave him. Don't understand his 99 Homestars rating. What are my options now?
