I rented a place in southern France for my family - and it was mis-advertised (it said it was air conditioned, but only one room was). We stayed at the place for 11 days - and it was a good stay - but poor sleeping. I gave a three star review of the place, then the owner came and gave me a one-star review all around, with no text. What I have found out is that Home Away does nothing to help the traveler. They really don't care what the owner/manager represents on the site. I cannot recommend this service at all. I have used AirBNB all over the world - and have been treated fairly with that company.
I have 2 email address'es, and I was having technical problems booking so I called.
She processed the rent, but then, I had no connection to the "owners". I could not go back and forth through my email, everything was auto-generated. The two phone number for the owners, did not work. One was out of order and the other said, "you cannot call this number from your location, good bye." What is that? So, I paid over 2 grand, and my dates are blocked out, but do not know the condo #, or how to get in. When you are on the phone with customer service, they are not giving you their full attention. People are giggling and fooling around, and this is a bunch of money for me. I expect decent service, and this place (also connected to vrbo) does NOT have it. Thinking back, every single vacation rental website, has burned me or made it super stressful to book. Who ties the shoes for some of these reps?
The best apartment we have stayed in Perfect setting for all amenities eg ferries bus train enabling you to go to Capri Pompeii etc. The sea front is just a couple of minutes away. Salerno is a lovely place to go. The apartment itself was spotless clean and comfortable Pasquale & Guisy the owners were very helpful and kind nothing was too much trouble for them to make your stay a real treat. Every day there was plenty of fresh fruit and a variety of breakfast choices and homemade cake! Highly Recommended!
I've been a Homeaway property owner for at least 6 years. Todays date is 5-8-2017 I've been wondering why my reservations have come to a screeching halt. I'm a 6 star reviewed cottage on a lake in Norther Michigan. So I called customer service, never had to before, and they informed me that if I hadn't updated my calendar in the last 30 days, my listing which is current, goes into oblivion and can't be viewed. This has never been the case in the past, I was not made aware of the change and now I have lost income because of there gross negligence. I'm very disappointed, which was evident in my conversation, and not a single olive branch was offered in consolation. I can't believe they are number one.
Homeaway has caused havoc in my 2016 rental season getting between the renter and tenant increasing rental costs by charging tenant 100 dollar fees and squeezing the consumer will not renew subscription and these changes made without feedback this is what ios wrong with corporate america
VRBO used to be one of my favorite means for finding and booking fun vacation homes. I really enjoyed the personal connection with home owners. I recently booked through the site and was charged the mandatory "Service" Fee. I put service in quotes because I didn't feel that I received any special service in return. I assumed incorrectly that it was an option selected by the rental owner. Research has revealed that it's another big business ripoff fee. I will miss using this site.
This site is horrible. I tried booking a place and after charging me 300 dollars the homeowner called us and was very nice. He told us he has cancer and someone was leasing it on the day we needed it and apologized. Fine cool, I understand. I book another place 2 days later and was charged 400 dollars, but the owner didn't approve it in time and it didn't go through. Oh but the 400 dollars went through. A week later neither have been refunded. I talked to some foreign lady that's telling me I have to call my bank to be refunded the money. It's 2015 and it takes over a week to refund money? Jesus, I mean it only took them 10 seconds to charge me the 700 dollars. Their terrible, you'd be better off pitching a tent wherever you want to go on vacation.
Just don't do it. For over a week now I, my cleaning and maintenance staff are unable to access our owner dashboard to manage bookings and see which renters are coming and going. Stayz switched me over to Homeaway and the technical issue has not been fixed at all. Support for owners doesn't pick up at all so you have to call support for guests and a week ago I was told it was escalated and I would get a call back. So far, NOTHING!
As others have said, reserved accommodation with an instant booking only for it to be cancelled and the owner claim the price was wrong and try and charge more than double.
I would trust this site if you need the accommodation to be sorted before you go. I was looking at a ski resort so would have been very expensive to rearrange accommodation close to the time.
Me and my family went through HomeAway to book a cabin in Big Bear. There was 7 of us. They only posted one review after they edited it with their own words. They would not post any of my family reviews. If you have a bad experience at a place you book, it's hard to get it posted.
We staying a property in Florida posted by HomeAway which looked very nice on the website. However, the property was nasty on arrival. I posted a review about the property via link that HA sent to me. However, it was not posted. Obviously, they appear to only post good reviews. I called HA three times and each time they promised to send another link but never did. I will not use HA again!
I paid for the service for multiple rental units. When Homeaway/VRBO changed their booking policies (flagrant overcharge in my opinion) they deleted contact information for guests who had already booked with me through their previous business practice. So, contact information for both renters and owners is gone making it very difficult to for each to contact the other to arrange arrivals, changes etc. Very bad people. I've transferred to AirBnB which is better. Would recommend avoiding Homeaway and all their spinoffs like the plague.
We just left a terrible property and both Homeaway and the property overran are refusing to let us leave a review. The property had code/security violations and the owner misrepresented twice the size of the beds (said they were queens when they were singles). 122 elgin way, bushkill falls in saw creek estates, pa. Property really worn down, had outlets missing electrical cover plates, large holes in wall where rodents could come in, was dark, dirty and the bed covers were so worn, stained, frayed and seemingly dirty that we didn't use them for fear of health concerns.
I rented a Homeaway/VRBO property on April 20, paying $1896. The owner cancelled on July 2 and I received a refund of $1000 which was the damage deposit. The owner has not been able to get VRBO to refund the remaining rental amount of $896. I file this complaint 2 weeks post cancellation. Totally Unacceptable to treat customers this way, denying justified refunds. And I cannot log into my account with them.
Unfortunately 1 star is still too high for this company. I am a property owner and have suffered through having to work with them for almost 10 years now. The tools they provide to owners to set up their property listings are inflexible and extremely difficult to use. They are constantly increasing fees and providing less & less service. The latest insult came this week when they announced an immediate additional 3% fee (on top of the current 3% processing fee and annual subscription fee) to disburse payments to owners. Essentially, they are holding hostage the money paid by renters to owners unless the owners agrees to pay the additional new fee. Otherwise you wait until the renter checks in to get any money. That presents a HUGE cash flow problem to owners who have bills and mortgages to pay. This company is greedy beyond belief but what alternatives do we have?
I have had booking from them and is yet to get paid. To much bull $#*! changing my bank acct info I done did several times in this last month. I am not rich at all and count on my money to pay the bills here. They can't tell me right away that my info was accepted. They wait a whole week to tell me so then I have to re do again for the same freaking repeat? ARE U SERIOUS!
Rented a home which HomeAway site claimed was in one location (on their map), but the property was in a completely different location. HomeAway makes it super hard to figure out where the house is - since they won't reveal the address or let you talk to the owner after its booked. By then its too late! Futhermore - they just don't care about helping renters or customers. Scum bags. A black eye on our city of Austin.
Been a owner for 2 properties for 14 years with vrbo then homeaway has taken all the personal touches we had with our customers now have made it all corporate no more hands on, would have made much more sence to increase the owners yearly fee and leave the renters alone and let homeowners adjust accordingly, now they have both parties furious about this new format, Ridiculous!
I didn't learn until after I booked that you had to go to a place two miles away from where we were staying. It was very difficult to find. When we did find it they wanted payment in cash.
When I finally arrived at the apartment and entered, we were hit by a strong scent of garbage. After we aired the apartment out, it still smelled, but was better.
We walked into the bedrooms and almost were shocked at the mattresses and linens (or should I say lack of!). I'm sure many jails and homeless centers have better bedding!
Homeaway and VRBO already charge homeowners significant processing fees and annual subscriptions. Now they have added a 10% service fee travelers must pay! Airbnb charges service fee but no annual subscription. This owner/customer since 2008 will not be renewing! What a greedy, money grabbing, ripoff!
Answer: Homeaway is charging a fee for paying through them. They said it was to improve marketing and because renters like to pay through them. As some one who is listed through Homeaway I find this practice destructive both to the owners and renters. I encourage all potential renters to contact the owners directly and pay us directly. Owners already pay a fee. If the owners want to be listed in higher tier you have to pay more. To me they are just trying to find ways to make more money at both the owners and renters expense without improved service for either.
Answer: Go elsewhere. Sadly what started as a very good site many years ago has evolved into an unethical monopoly that has a sole interest. Profit. They do not care about owners or travelers. They exist to remove you from your money, and will say one thing and do another. They have lost the faith and trust of both, and it is well-deserved. Anyone coming on board with any of HomeAway's companies as a traveler or host would be foolish considering their underhandedness.
Answer: That's a toss up... Kinda like eBay with sellers and no feedback... In general... I don't trust Home away anymore than I can throw em... cuz they are gonna side with their rentors and not you...
Answer: No, they won't. Worst agency I ever dealt with. Warn all you friends. They should be put out of business.
Answer: HomeEscape.com is relatively new but with the new Expedia Service charges on HomeAway/VRBO, the homeowners are moving over to HomeEscape in droves. Over the next year as the HomeAway subscriptions expire many of the homeowners will not renew with HomeAway if HomeEscape turns into a good alternative. In general we (homeowners) are pretty upset that Expedia is going to make over 4Billion in added income from our customers just in the first year of the fee, if folks continue to book through them. Many of us will feel pressure to lower our rental income but if you only knew our expenses you would know this is not really a big money maker for us - personally, these fees will actually put us well into the red. So, for our guests and ourselves, HomeAway will no longer be a site we do business with once our subscription expires. And, though we used to rent through them at least once a year, we're done with that as of now.
Answer: This was my first and last experience using a similar service. I have been traveling for years, staying at hotels, with no problems. Given my experience with homeaway, I will only use reputable hotels from now on.
Answer: If I were you I would run as far as you can from these people!
Answer: I don't think our guests are aware of the rip-off yet. Look what it took for us to figure out what they are doing.
Answer: Avoid them at all cost! They're criminals!
Answer: Trust me, Homeaway does NOT assist you contrary to what you might think of them as sort of a back-up if there are problems. It's the worst agency I've ever dealt with.
