The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

These people are thieves in the night that will rob you and your credit or debit card off.
I have cancelled and they still have sent unwanted leads. Look up their reviews and glassdoor.com RIPOFF ARTISTS!
The companies are mostly of no quality. We trusted a company on home adviser to do our basement and they have no clue what they are doing! We're probably going to have to pay even more to fix this mess. 3700 down the drain. Don't trust home advisor
Terrible, complete scam for contractors and professionals. They force your leads on while turned off, constant dead leads, cost per lead is ridiculously overpriced. Not a good company to work with.
I have tried home advisor three times as have my friends the first time was for a dryer repair the person was not very knowledgable and kept raising the price the second and third time was for screen repair the people google the house to see the value and decide if you can afford them my friend who lives in a different neighborhood was quoted a price baised on the price of her house the people on this list seem more interested in the bottom line they can charge than the actual repair needed and do not seem to know how to do what they register the can do
Their leads don't turn into work. They sell the same lead to several contractors profiting 3 times for one possible lead. This has got to be illegal? The idiot reps tell you the same BS about how you are paying to advertise not guarantee any actual paying jobs. I think they should be investigated for fraud.
Before going into my complaint, I see people complaining about being bombarded with contractors immediately after putting in a request. The reason for this is that whether contractors get a bid or not, they get charged the fee. They have to jump on leads or they pay for nothing.
Now for my complaint. Over the past few months I have been attempting to cancel my account with Home Advisor. My business is closing and I do not need their services any longer and haven't needed their services since December really. I got a call from Home Advisor today with a lead, even though my account was supposed to be closed. In called them to get them to close my account. They said that I still had a balance due on my account. When the supposed balance was accrued, my account was supposed to be on standby. I told them that I would not pay, they said that they would not be able to close my account.
If I had a balance due for over 2 months, why would they keep sending me leads?
I would advise contractors to seek alternative methods of lead generation. HA does generate leads, but those leads are pretty expensive and there is no guarantee you will actually get the sale. You don't pay for sales, you pay for the leads themselves.
I own 3 companies and I would be flat out ashamed if anyone of my companies was like this one. All they do is steal the pros money on bull$#*! leads even if you don't get to talk to the customer. I consider this company the worst kind of thief. I guess the difference in great companies and them they just run your card but I guarantee you that the owner wouldn't come or send an employee to my home or office and ask to run my card they have to do it without dealing with the pros face to face. This company is $#*! and not worth the toilet paper I wipe my $#*! with.
TOTAL SCAM STAY AWAY, i had called in to cancel my plan after finding out they are a total scam, will send you wrong/fake leads all the time. I called in to cancel my membership and still got charged for leads a couple of days after it. Total scam.
This is a company that only does steal money, I tried to make a subscription with them, they told me to give them my credit card number, that after doing a background check they would call me to continue with the subscription process, they were not going to load anything to the card, however 5 seconds later they took me out of the account $ 348 as soon as I realized call and cancel the subscription, I could do it within 72 hours, it was the past March 19 and today is April 4, and I still do not return the money, they are thieves, I call and I talk to a lot of people and they do not resolve and they pass it from department to department and I have to keep waiting, they are thieves. I recorded all the calls and give them to my lawyer.
I signed up with Home Advisor Pro thinking it would be a good invest for my company. I recieved leads but they were all from people that either did not own the home or people that gave false information on the site, or from scammers. When I tried to get a credit for these leads Home Advisor made it very difficult to get a credit back and most of the time I was denied. So now I owe over $1000 to Home Advisor for $0 return on my investment. This company preys on small business owners and uses their commercials to keep up a facade that they are a legitimate company. I strongly advise to STAY FAR AWAY!
I filled what job I wanted done on advisor site. I contacted Homeshield and they were sending out their contractor. Changed my mind about homeadvisor, figured since I never recieve feedback it was cancelled. Received phone call next day from a guy saying what time he was coming. He didn't say what company sent him until work was almost completed. I had to pay him. Called company and they said they dint do anything wrong. Never again
This company is a giant lie and scam. Stay far away. Took thousands of dollars and many bogus leads.
Homeadvisor pro it has been the biggest mistake i ever made. First they lied about how there services worked and then they continue to charge you for unwanted leads, and they lied about the prices and how it works the process they lie all time to my face and they don't give a sh... This is a scam so stay far way.
When I 1st started I was speaking to a representative and sold me a dream on I'm gonna get so many jobs but after I became pro and establish in my profile I was getting unqualified leads like crazy to the point i had to pay what i didnt make any money back to the company. To tell you the truth they're making money off of you more than the pro shouldbe making money on the jobs and their lead system is bull$#*!. Now you have to find a way to pay all the leads Back and if not they will send your bill into collections. Stay away from this company Because the leads you would receive the Close out ratio would be 3 out of 20 jobs.
If you're a really hungry contractor that can work cheap, this might work for you. But be careful, understand what they will be charging you for and how much. You can lose track quickly. Don't assume that what the salesman tells you is correct. Be really clear and take notes.
Personally, as an established contractor with a crew of guys, this is an absolute no go. Crummy leads that have not been vetted for reality. A lot of time and $$ wasted.
I had been with Home Advisor for over a year and had terrible experiences with bad leads, terrible customer service, increasing fees, and lack of communication from their terrible service personnel. About 9 out of every 10 leads were bad and often times the phone number and contact info for potential customers was wrong. IF YOU ARE A SERVICE PROVIDER STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR!
This company is nothing but a scam. We have done nothing but poor out money to them and we have not even used or opened any of their leads. My husband got talked into signing up by the sales rep whom after signing up you cannot get in touch with of course now she will not answer the phone. She told us as long as we do not open the leads we will not be charged that is a BIG LIE. We are a small business just trying to make it and this company has not at all helped us in any way. It has been about $$$$$$ the entire time. I have tried cancelling several times then they talk you into putting leads on hold after it was up and us still not using it I cancelled and now they are trying to tell me months later that I owe money and now have sent my business to collections. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY... IT IS THE BIGGEST JOKE. They scam you just to get your money. They do not care about you or your business. I will be letting EVERYONE know about this company and posting it all over the Internet. I am not one to complain or even write reviews. I just don't want anyone else to get involved with them and get SCREWED like we have. Please take it serious because I would have never thought this would happen. We are several thousand out of pocket and have not even used the company. I should have read reviews before signing up.
I have come to realize this is one stop short of a scam. 1/3 of my leads were bogus with no valid phone numnbers or emails. The other 2/3 are worse than tire kickers. My Google Ads generates the same leads (many duplicates).
I had new flooring installed in my kitchen, foyer, and a small bath and closet. A section of the quarter round was not stapled into the wall. I was holding it when I called Empire. I have called twice in a week with no response from Empire. It would seem to be an easy fix but, once the project is done, there is no incentive for them to provide any kind of service to their customers. I would never recommend them to anyone for a flooring project. My other choice for a contractor I did not even consider. I called him at 9:30 AM and I think I woke him up. He did not sound like a viable company so I told him I had a wrong number. I don't believe HomeAdvisor does a good job of vetting its contractors.
I attempted to use HA for my business. They did not have a good category for our services so I ended up getting nothing but bogus, worthless Leads that were unrelated to what we do. Initially, HA would issue credit for bogus leads but after two or three events requesting credits they stopped issuing credit for the bogus leads saying only that "not all Leads result in sales". I suspended receiving any leads but they said they could only suspend leads for 90 days. It must be either a limitation of their computer system, or it's simply so they can start sending leads again without your consent. Of course after 90 days they resumed sending leads and charging me for them. The leads were still worthless and they refused to issue credits. I paid but told them to suspend leads again, explaining to them that they did not have an appropriate category for us and their leads were worthless. Beginning in January 2019 they resumed sending us unwanted leads but we made a point to not use the leads at all. We did not click on the leads or use them in any way, however, they still charged us. At this time they notified us that they have two types of leads, ones that you have to click on to be charged and another that you're charged for regardless of whether or not you use them. For 7 months I tried to get rid of this service but now they've turned our account over to a collection agency and are continuing to add penalties. They have been a nightmare and hopefully enough people will expose their tactics and get rid of HA.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
