Bought some hockey pants from the site and upon receipt the pants were flawed (front pad was defective... padding and shell were completely separated in one and coming apart in two others). Had to pay for the return (otherwise go through a complex return process)... and when I eventually got the refund, they did not reimburse my initial shipping since they said the products were in good shape. So, I'm out both shipping costs and got nothing.
I feel bad for the people who ended up buying my returned product. Obviously the quality control at HockeyMonkey is not good.
So... I will not buy anything from them again... and I will be telling everyone I know to never buy from them, too. STAY AWAY!
Prices are competitive and shipping is usually free if you spend over a certain amount, but if you need to make a return, you'll wish you had shopped somewhere else. You can't return items to your local Hockey Monkey store. Items must be shipped back to California at the customer's expense. And the store credit you receive for returns must be used online rather than in one of their retail stores. They don't take responsibility for items that are misrepresented on their website, they claim misrepresentations are the manufacturer's fault.
If you ever have to change anything on your order you will regret it. This company is the reason that Amazon is putting other companies out of business. Customer service was not helpful at all. They charged me for my items and then held me hostage not shipping them. I offered several alternatives to get them to ship me the items though they refused to send anything or cancel my order. Look elsewhere.
Do not believe any promises HockeyMonkey makes unless you get them in writing. I bought several items to evaluate in my living room, with the express verbal promise that all would be returnable for refund. It's my fault for not noticing the 15% restocking fee, but they misrepresented some items' returnability. After I received my order, their Customer Service supervisor reversed her service rep's repeated prior assurance that a clearance item they substituted for my most expensive ordered item was returnable expressly because it was a substitution. My detailed notes on the time and content of that assurance phone call failed to persuade the supervisor to honor the rep's promise. I'm through with HockeyMonkey other than filing a charge dispute through VISA. The amount is not worth small claims court even though it ended up effectively tripling the cost of the items I kept. (The fact that Amazon does not use HockeyMonkey as a source should have been a red flag.)
And, of course, the e-mail spam has started within hours.
Bad Monkey. BAD Monkey!
Ordered a red CCM stick arrived on time ish I opened the box and got a black and grey Bauer vapor stick wrong size to.
Terrible customer service. I would not order anything more than tape from them.
Here is the sad truth, more people write bad reviews after the sale than good ones, I wanted to be an exception to the rule. I bought a gift card off Hockey Monkey and didn't bother to create an account. Both me and my nephew couldn't find the transaction so I contacted their on-line support. Within seconds they resend the e-giftcard and made things all better. Yay for them. :)
I've bought from these guys many times now. Well worth it. Much cheaper than anything that we have available in Australia.
Customer service is great - Sommer sorted all of my queries and added in my last minute extras.
The only thing that annoys me about this site is the distribution restrictions on some brands but I'm not sure that it's so much a fault of hockeymonkey's but rather the actual brand owners. I had a custom jersey made (not the authentic one just the replica) and it turned out great. It's obviously got a different feel to it than the authentic ones but it's less than half of the price which is nice.
This is by far the worst e-commerce site ever. I am not sure why they spend money hiring these so-called "customer service representatives" when they are simply unhelpful.
The only sin I committed is buying an item that doesn't fit me. Just because I do not have the original packaging, they are giving me the sage advice of selling the helmet on ebay. I believe the exact words are "Have you heard of Ebay? You can try to sell your item there." Unbelievable.
Ordered a set of goalie gloves. They sent me 2 gloves? Then they tell me they dont have the blocker after my son had the glove for a week. Drew is the worst to deal with. Poor customer service. Would not offer any compensation for their error and non apologetic. This is a small outfit that is very poorly run. Save your troubles.
Hockey Monkey is a joke! My son got a certificate for $20 for being named to a all-star team at a national Tournament and the the credit can't be used towards shipping ($7.99) and to top it off no other promotional discounts can be used! So his $20 award is really a $7 award. If you wanted to buy a $100 Stick and they were offering 25% off for Labor Day you are better off just burning the award certificate and taking the promo. Way to screw kids out of there awards, or should I say there parents out of there hard eared money.
Shame on you Hockey Monkey
Sure the initial price was great... until item didn't fit properly. Trying to return something to hockey monkey is SO FRUSTRATING. It would be easier to take your wrong size or broken item and sell it locally than to return it to hockeymonkey in attempt to get a refund. Will not shop with hockeymonkey again and will tell my friends not to either. If they start putting more effort into customer service in the future, maybe I would be swayed back.
They sent me wrong sticks, much cheaper that I bought. Totally useless!
Fighting to get help from them, but nobody got back for two months!
I was a good customer for a years, but now will move to somebody else...
Ordered a CCM helmet which was too big for me. I sent it back straight away in the original box including all the paperwork and stickers. The box was slightly damaged from shipping, which I told customer service about on the phone. Then I received an email saying they refused my return, without giving any details about what could have been wrong. I called them again and they were saying that the return was refused, because they can't resell a damaged box.
Brian and Johnny were the best! They helped our son pick out a stick and fit him properly for skates. No pressure on either purchase. It was our intention to buy a stick. The Skates were something we were just thinking about. Johnny asked if we needed assistance. So he properly fit him by checking his true skate size and due to wide width our son tried on new skates. We were so happy we ended up buying them. Thank you guys.
The rest of the staff is very friendly to (the ones we spoke with anyhow)
Bought my son a chest protector, the sizing chart was from the manufacturer so I don't blame hockey monkey for that, but it was much to small, even though it is his height. Figured I could just throw it back in the box and attach a return label, and drop it off, because in the year 2017 who doesn't offer that? Then I realize I have to call the company for a return authorization, then follow 100 steps to return the item. Including writing my return authorization number everywhere. Then write out the return address and go wait in line to pay for shipping back to hockey monkey. The entire time hoping my return goes through, because of the warnings that if you don't follow all of the instructions on a return you won't be credited... Come on!
More than likely won't be using hockeymonkey again if this is the way the return policy stays...
My son broke his hockey stick at the beginning of a hockey tournament Friday. I ordered 2 sticks Friday night and paid 50$ for overnight shipping. No stick Saturday, Sunday or Monday. I was hold with customer service for an hour before I hung up. I contacted them with live chat and they said that it shipped out Monday and would arrive Tuesday and there was nothing they could do about shipping costs. They claim because it was midnight central time (who knows what time they are on) that I actually ordered it Saturday. They do not do overnight shipping on the weekends. I requested interaction with a manager and they refused. I tried calling back and they blocked my phone number so I had to use my sons phone. Will never do business with them again. Without the customer, customer service does not have a job.
Sizing Chart is WRONG! Shipping rates with this company are expensive. Correcting an order for Shoulder pads is going to cost me more than the pads are worth. AMAZON are you listening!?!?! Stock more hockey equipment and drive these people out of business!
Buy hockey gear from another website, such as Pure Hockey or others. Hockeymonkey is engaged in fraud and wouldn't accept back a perfectly unused pair of skates because they didn't want to lose money. They told Chase (my credit card company) that I had "already sharpened the skates", but THESE WERE ROLLER HOCKEY SKATES. This place is AWFUL. Their customer service phone number goes to a black hole. Everything about this place is set up to scam customers. DO NOT USE!
Long story, short.
Bought a stick, received wrong one.
Figured I'd return item, get correct one sent, and go along my merry way.
Whoa! Was I ever wrong.
I must've spent cumulatively 10+ hours on hold in their telephone system to be hung up on repeatedly.
When I finally heard a human voice... it was the infamous "DREW". I have a suspicion that this whole 'company' is a one-man operation.
Without getting into specific details, Drew told me several bold faced lies, was evasive in answering questions, and came across very arrogant.
The required hassle, time-wise & monetary cost, to return the item makes it nowhere near worth it. And I guess at the end of the day it is only a $100 lesson learned to NEVER buy from HockeyMonkey.ca ever again.
This whole ordeal was very disappointing as I have bought from their sister site LacrosseMonkey.com many times, and they are AWESOME!
