At the time of booking it was explicitly stated that the vehicle was picked up and returned not during normal working hours (0200 pick-up and return 0500).
In collecting the car I was required to pay an extra 80 euros for non-ordinary hours, which made renting from the company unprofitable.

Rented a car from the Gatwick Airport location on May 13,2022. Purchased insurance at time of rental online.
Upon arrival at their office I had to wait 20 minutes for service as the employees dealt with an irate customer.
Finally they started to process my rental at which time they informed me I would have to purchase their insurance at a total cost close to my 11 day rental. When I stated that I already had purchased insurance from Lloyds UK at the time of rental and showed my printed policy they stated that they did not accept 3rd party insurance and that I either purchase theirs or would have a 30,000 Pound security deposit charge on my Credit Card.
It was then that the clerk informed me that this was the same issue with the previously irate customer encountered and was the reason for the long delay in service. Knowing I had no credit card with a limit this high I was left with no choice but to purchase their overpriced insurance as they clearly stated to me that if I did not purchase or leave the outrageous security deposit they would not rent a car to me.
One month after returning home to Canada I noticed another small ($115) charge from this company on my credit card. 2 weeks later I received a 30 Pound Penalty Charge Notice from Brighton City Council for being in a bus lane. While not disputing the charge I wanted to find out what the extra Green Motion charge was for and was informed that it was an administration fee for the Penalty Charge Notice I had received. Outrageous, the administration fee was double the infraction fee.
I would recommend all potential customers stay far away from this company as while they initially appear very cheap you will end up paying double the price you initially thought. Stick with a well known reputable company.
Upon further investigation of this company after returning home I am not alone in this feeling as their negative customer experiences recorded online far outweigh the positives.
Glad I undertook a very thorough inspection of the damaged car upon rental with numerous photos and video as I dread to think what they would have charged me for damaged upon return. Very deceitful in their practices!

The deposits are not £30,000. The maximum deposit amount for this location is £2505. We do require a credit card in the name of the main driver for all deposits. I must confirm that third-party insurance does not reduce the deposit requirement as they are reimbursement policies. This means that you would be liable for all damage costs upfront and as such we require a deposit.
Unfortunately, when a Penalty Charge Notice is received, it is sent to the fleet company as they are the registered owner of the vehicle. They then charge Green Motion handling and 'Transfer of Liability' fees, which is why we must charge an admin fee in such circumstances. Rented a car for our 10-day trip to England. We pre-booked and pre-paid through Expedia. We get there to pick up the car and they say our drivers license is not valid, even though it is! So they say the cannot give us a car. That's fine, whatever. The issue I have is they proceeded to mark us down as a no-show and they are refusing to refund the cost of the rental car that we DID NOT USE! What a ridiculous policy! We are now out over $900 for the car and then had to spend hundreds of dollars in other transportation methods the entire time we were on vacation. I'm furious and just want my money back.

Green Motion layers fraudulent fees, refusing to allow customers to decline any services/extras. The Green Motion employee did not speak English, insisted on $350 for a SunPass with added toll fees to credit card (so you pay twice). They demanded $500 for car insurance (despite proof of full coverage). Total car rental fees amounted to $998.
Green Motion is a scam. Save yourself the trouble and rent your car from a reputable car rental. Not sure how these scam artists stay in business.

I paid £139 to book a car online for a few days. When I got there, they took 90 minutes to even serve me and when they did they refused to actually give me a car unless I paid for the full premium reduction - this is despite having all the required information, available credit on my credit card etc. There were a lot of people in front of me having similar issues that I thought were just being unreasonable, but it turns out these guys are just crooks. I declined paying the extra insurance (an extra 300gbp) and they didn't give me the car and refused to refund my booking fee. They straight up stole my money and left me and my pregnant wife abandoned.
I wish this was an exaggeration. Don't be tempted by their cheaper booking fees, this company is a scam.

Rented car from Green Motion for six weeks in April and May this year. They were the the most competitive quote around and offered friendly service. Pick up from airport and taken to their compound just off the airport road. This was efficient and friendly and most paperwork can be done on line before you fly. All in all a very good and price effective service.

Although we arrived in Edinburgh by train we rented at the airport rather than in Edinburgh because it is so much cheaper. We worked out the GreenMotion location before heading there which is worth doing because it is not immediately adjacent to the airport. Rudimentary facilities - which is fine - and no doubt evolving. Not wholly ideal for anyone with a rolling suitcase but distance between check in and car is short. Busy time at check-in but friendly people. Ended up paying more because, stupidly, I only had a debit and not a credit card - which in fairness they do specify if you read the blurb properly - which I did not. Anyway I had to buy a different pacakge - or walk. As it was it was an excellent nearly new little car and ideal for purpose. Full to full as usual. Swift checks on return with a friendly reception. One of us headed on the (frequent) shuttle to the airport to grab a taxi to Edinburgh whilst we were handing the car back. All in all pretty good. Nice people. Great car. Remember your CREDIT card.

Answer: I have used them many times, always cheapest, always very new cars, always charming and helpful staff ( Stansted Airport). Every firm will try to get you to upgrade. Buy a 3rd party policy, and just say you have your own cover. Up to now I have never been scammed. I ALWAYS inspect the vehicle before. I drive off. I take photos and make sure I get it inspected and signed off by staff when I take it back.
Answer: Speeding/parking tickets and police action are slow. They keep the deposit until they are sure there will be no problems with any of those costs. (and yeah, would be speeding fine + massive green motion fee).

I can confirm that security deposits are automatically released by Green Motion on the last day of your rental after it has been established that the rental vehicle has been returned in the same condition as it was provided, and there are no further outstanding charges. Whilst in most cases this is available again within 10 working days, unfortunately, this can take up to 30 days depending on the bank that you use. We suggest that you contact your bank as they may be able to speed this process up for you. Green Motion's policy is to use pre-authorised transactions for our security deposits, which ring-fence the amount within your account, not charge it. This pre-authorised transaction will allow us to make charges if necessary at the end of the rental, but unless this occurs no money will leave your account. Due to the nature of this transaction, the release of these funds may not show on your bank statement as a separate transaction. If you believe that you have been charged your security deposit, please contact your bank and ask them to provide proof of the transaction as a charge on the first day of your rental so that we can look further into this for you. If this amount is still not available in your account after 30 days from the last day of your rental, please contact us at escalation@cs.greenmotion.com. The two customers being served while I was collecting my car had also not read/understood the conditions and were caught by surprise. The representative dealt with them firmly but fairly.
