I don't normally give feedback to companies, but this time, I cannot stay quiet. I received the most appalling service from Green Motion and want other people to be aware of this and stay away from this company if they don't want to be scammed of money.
I booked a car from a third party site, checked in online to speed up the process. Bought the full insurance at the time of booking the car, it costed £50. The documents I was advised to bring with me were the drivers license and ID. I also knew I would need a credit card that is in my name, is valid and has enough funds, which is what I had.
On the day of car collection, our plane was delayed by 1 hour. We get there at midnight, tired, we still had about 1 hour drive to the destination.
I provided the requested documents at the check in, and the woman tells me my card is expired, it has to be valid for at least 6 months from the pick up date, so I won't have a car unless I pay €250 for Green Motion full insurance, and €50 deposit. And to do that, I can then use my debit card. I was very surprised by this, because no such requirement was listed on the website where I booked the car from and all the terms and conditions only refer to the name and limit and where there is a mention on "valid", there is no specific term in months. The best thing was, Green Motion T&Cs state that you should refer to the third party T&Cs if you booked through a third party vendor.
Anyway I paid that amount, because I needed the car and at midnight, there was no other place to go to to get a different car.
That Green Motion representative then tells me how good it was that I provided my flight number, as she would have cancelled my booking altogether because I was late and charged me a late pick up fee, as if it was my fault that the plane was delayed.
Finally, I booked a small car, specifically chose a small car, and got a huge one instead. When I asked for a small one, I was laughed at and told they don't do small cars. Probably hoping that I would damage it, so they could collect more money from me.
This happened on the 28th June 2022, I formally complained to them on the 1st July. I only received 2 responses, where they did not try to come to any resolution, the last one was on the 18th June. They have stopped acknowledging my requests for the update of my complaint and I am pretty sure they are going to keep the money they scammed off me.
Furthermore, they are not part of any association, so you won't be able to take your complaint any further.
Everyone who can see this post, please be careful when booking cars online from third party vendors and please stay away from Green Motion as they are not an honest company and will try to scam you as best as they can. When I booked online, I didn't know which company I was booked with until I paid, so if you do get that, cancel immediately. Or best go through another rental company directly.

This company is terrible! Beware! I requested and paid for added insurance and specifically asked if everything was covered, sales person said the only thing I would be responsible for was the $200.00 deductible that was already held on my card. Upon leaving the parking lot TPMS came on, thinking was just adjusting to ambient temperature we just added some air, next day tire was flat.
Then my fault I hit the curb damaging other tire. I was mad because it was my fault and I will likely be losing 200.00. When I turned the car in, the lot attendant goes over the car on his knees looking for any damage he can find and that is not an exaggeration. I mention both the flat tire and other tire damage knowing my $200.00 is gone. Then the salesperson inside tells me the insurance does NOT cover tires and glass damage and I am billed $1200. 00.
Before you rent from here just do a little google search. The third website that comes up

The best company I have used so far, and I have hired vehicles from many different ones. Their staff is amazing, very polite and efficient always. Their cars are always new and perfectly clean. No hidden charges from them, whatever you book and pay, you get. I have used other companies like enterprise or easirent, but Green Motion is the best for me so far. I will keep using only them.

I hired a car from Edinburgh airport. Phoned as instructed when I arrived and waited half an hour for someone to come the 1/2 mile to collect me. When in the office I dealt with a particular unhelpful eastern European lady who was only intent on selling me additional insurance despite the fact I had purchased insurance through Expedia and also bought cover for the excess through IAG. Her comment was "but if you don't take our insurance you will have to wait for your insurance to pay any damage" ie pay twice so we can make more money. I drove the car for about 100 miles - to Perth and back and when I returned it the same lady went to check it. She spent ages in the boot and I asked her what are you looking for I've not had the boot open as I only had 1 small bag with me? Then she found 4 small marks on the side of the car and a mark on the front bumper. She said you will be charged for these then disappeared. I then went in to see where she had gone and the manager came out (another eastern European gentleman). He said the marks on the side they were chargeable despite each being less than the 4cm threshold. When I said they are all small and less than 4 he said yes but they were all done at the same time so they counted as 1. I asked him how he knew they were done the same time and he walked off. I waited and then went in to see where he had gone and asked him what he was doing - "I have to get these hires out" yes and I have to catch a plane I said. What happens now? You either pay £548 and I will give you a receipt to claim back from your insurance (how did he know I had insurance?) and we will take you back to the airport or you leave by yourself and we will charge your card anyway and you will not get a receipt - What wonderful customer service. I was left with no choice - paid the money and went to catch my plane.
I took a number of photos of the damage and noticed something very strange when I expanded the picture - there were a number of blotches that were a slightly different white to the main colour, I suspect they cover up any damage then when it suits them on inspecting the car somehow wipe these blotches off to reveal damage underneath. This is a very shady organisation as you can see from some of the other posts.
They may be a bit cheaper than others but certainly not worth it even just accounting for the additional time wasted getting off site
When I was in the office a lady was hiring a car and had a problem with her new credit card - when she asked the same lady what she could do to help; she said "nothing" and shrugged her shoulders and gave her an additional charge of £200.

Overall good, but could improve. Remove the late night collected fee, it's an airport there will be delayed flights outside anyone's control especially hight of summer,
I doubt the hourly salary of desk staff is €25 in Riga and there were other cars being collected then, after 11, guessing similar levied. With that minor point aired, I found the staff to be very good and pleasant on collection and drop back. The vehicle was super clean and modern. I would recommend and most likely use their service again, but will opt for morning flights going forward.

We had to return the car about 6:30 am and the customer service person told us that that would cost $50 for him to come early. The car rentals is not at the airport. They came within 20 min to pick us up. Car was clean, not one that was promised when booked, but they said it is in the same class range. After vehicle was returned there was no help loading and unloading the luggage.
Never rent again from this place! In US this person wouldn't have a job. I hope this improves fast! Ramiz S.

The experience wasn't to bad although they are well outside the airport. I think like all car hire companies they are over charging the customer by a huge amount. Just because there are less cars available does that mean they have to double, treble or even quadruple the cost of hiring a car! The cost of a new car hasn't doubled?

My online booking depicted and offered a peugeot 208 or similar. When I arrived to pick up my, I was shown a Fiat Picanto. The Picanto has 255 litres luggage space while the Peugeot has 311 litres. Despite both cars being classed as compact, the Peugeot has 55 litre more luggage space. That's another suitcase worth of space which was important for me. A Peugeot 208 was not available, nor was a similar car. The Picanto should not be classed as similar to a Peugeot 208 if its luggage space is so much smaller. The use of the term "similar" may be legally permitted but from a customer's perspective, it is misleading. The Picanto was too small for my purpose. I was offered a larger car, a Kia SUV, the only other choice available. This was offered at an additional 10 pds sterling per day. I took this alternative and it turned out to be ideal in the end, and a joy to drive once I had got over the frustratingly over-specified safety features.
The official paperwork was handled proficiently. The courtesy bus from and back to the airport was great, as the hire place is about 10 minutes drive from the airport.
The offer of >NZ$600 to use the in-car satnav for my three-week period was grossly excessive. Needless to say, I didn't take it.

Answer: I have used them many times, always cheapest, always very new cars, always charming and helpful staff ( Stansted Airport). Every firm will try to get you to upgrade. Buy a 3rd party policy, and just say you have your own cover. Up to now I have never been scammed. I ALWAYS inspect the vehicle before. I drive off. I take photos and make sure I get it inspected and signed off by staff when I take it back.
Answer: Speeding/parking tickets and police action are slow. They keep the deposit until they are sure there will be no problems with any of those costs. (and yeah, would be speeding fine + massive green motion fee).

I can confirm that security deposits are automatically released by Green Motion on the last day of your rental after it has been established that the rental vehicle has been returned in the same condition as it was provided, and there are no further outstanding charges. Whilst in most cases this is available again within 10 working days, unfortunately, this can take up to 30 days depending on the bank that you use. We suggest that you contact your bank as they may be able to speed this process up for you. Green Motion's policy is to use pre-authorised transactions for our security deposits, which ring-fence the amount within your account, not charge it. This pre-authorised transaction will allow us to make charges if necessary at the end of the rental, but unless this occurs no money will leave your account. Due to the nature of this transaction, the release of these funds may not show on your bank statement as a separate transaction. If you believe that you have been charged your security deposit, please contact your bank and ask them to provide proof of the transaction as a charge on the first day of your rental so that we can look further into this for you. Answer: I believe Green Motion are a perfectly fair and respectful company. I suspect you didn't read their Ts&Cs properly. The two customers being served while I was collecting my car had also not read/understood the conditions and were caught by surprise. The representative dealt with them firmly but fairly.
