Apparently if a CD-Key is bought from a third party and that key happened to be originally bought with a stolen credit card. They'll revoke YOUR game after you bought it legally, despite having no knowledge whatsoever about how it was originally purchased. Without any notification.
I thought GOG was a cut above the rest in terms of ethics. They sell games without DRM and all kinds of other good stuff.
But wow. They bent the knee to China and won't sell Devotion because of a president Xi Winni the Pooh Joke?
Sad to see a good firm bow down to political correctness.
I hope they change their tune.
I bought a game that turned out to be missing few features in comparison with the same game offered directly by its producer. So I applied for a refund, as the description didn't mention the fact it is not a fully-featured version. Meeeh...
I had to wait 10 days for a response, sending them ~10 mails in the meantime. Then the response was something like "Here, take the money. Why did you buy it if you knew you didn't like it? It's all your fault, be happy that we kindly give you a refund".
Garbage - never ever again. I don't want to go through this hell again.
SO I bought a program I like from Steam for $5.77 cents, it did not work, Steam gave me my money back.
I went to GOG which has a Moscow tag on my Credit card, downloaded the program and upgrades for $60 or so, and they work.
In fact I first tried this program from a download from GOG on Pirate Bay many years ago ( I Miss Pirate bay), But I tried to download and PAY for the Program on many sites, GOG delivered. I can play my game even if I shut down Internet Access, it is actually installed on my hard drive.
Yes it scary that they have a Moscow address, but they have delivered exactly what I purchased.
*Disclaimer, I have not used GOG is almost a year, so I am not giving a full 5 star review, I will update my review when I've checked my account again this week.*
I've placed multiple orders with GOG and had no issues with downloads or getting any of the DRM free games to work on my computer. I've been running a windows 8 / windows 10 computer and all of the games I've ordered have downloaded and played without a hitch. I do have some games I have not yet attempted to install that are part of their 'free' games on gog.
One thing I did notice was that some games (Like starwars battlegrounds) do show that they're still multiplayer capable, however the servers for that game were shut down by the origin company. So while that was at one time an online game it no longer has multiplayer support. I think with games like that they should update the site to show the game lost it's multiplayer options so anyone looking to purchase those games won't assume there are servers for them still. So while prices and games have been great so far for me, I know that some things like online games still need a bit of research before purchasing since things that start off 'single or multiplayer' can sometimes change to single player only and gog hasn't kept up.
Another site that does not allow SSO from Google/Facebook and requires the user to create yet another marginal website account on the internet.
I had no issues with any part of obtaining the original Diablo. Works just as intended despite my concerns after reading some reviews. For the amount of money it cost, I had to see for myself, as people tend to want to spread the bad news more than the good.
I am a PC tech, and found everything to work quite well! It is much appreciated to be able to play these older games on our newer devices.
I agree entirely with Chris O. Review of GOG. Cheap, reliable, DRM free and a really great community and customer support to boot. I highly recommend them.
One word of caution, the reviews on the site often tend to rate games much more highly than they deserve, so take that with a grain of salt.
Great site to look for old games fixed up to run on more modern machines, but it also sells newer games as well, sometimes even with discounts. Special promotions are also pretty common. The games I buy always work well, the installer is simple and easy to use and there is no annoying DRM.
One of the greatest website out there basically for any good old game you may have in your arsenal or sort of that entirely and possibly anyway. I have ordered tons of games from here and overall extremely happy with everything out there ;)
I agree with Chris O. Ive bought Ultima 4, 5, 6, 7, Carmageddon, Master of orion 1,2 wing commander 4, privateer, and some others. All works like they should. Had to download glide drivers for carmageddon on different web site for the 3dfx fix. Other than that perfection! They give you a handful of free games for signing up at no cost. (this way you can see for yourself how well it works at no cost.)
GOG Galaxy has gotten progressively worse. Buy a game one day, have it somehow corrupted the next. Can't just reinstall without reinstalling all of the app and deleting regkeys, or it gives install fails. After a little Windows hocus-pocus finally get the game reinstalled in working order. Now game suffers from freezes on load screens that weren't there before.
I'm tossing GOG in the bin and will buy my game elsewhere.
Best place if you're a fan of "classic" games - I used to download them illegaly from torrents and risk getting viruses only because there was no other reliable source for getting those games... with GOG its as simple as few clicks - and there are hardly every any hardware issues (important for games which are 15+ years old)
Worst customer service on the planet. I had an order ready, tried to create an account, but they said there were "forbidden characters" in my email address. They said there wasn't any such problem, so I sent them a screen shot. They ignored me after that and flat out refused to help.
Unfortunately, it's back to Steam for me!
With the very disappointing launch of One Mans Lie (No mans sky) I had pre-ordered through GOG and simply after explaining to customer support that the game sucked they refunded me. It took about 15mins from when I first emailed them before they replied offering me a bank transfer or store credit. I replied and seconds later the confirmed the transfer. Very friendly, no questions asked. Definitely would recommend
I will never again purchase a game from GoG.com.
They don't care about their customers all they want is your money, thats how i feel. I purchased in total of 3 games and one of them had higher specs required. I notice 30 days money back on the game so i decided to test it on low settings, never worked so after 1 hour of trying to make it work, I uninstall the game and contact GOG support for a refund, Yea that didn't happen because i downloaded the game... question how do you install it or test the game? It downloads automatically so their 30 days money back is a lie.
I sent them my computer specs. You dont have to be an IT guy to notice the graphic hardware was the issue, so all I get and forced to accept is a refund in my GoG wallet. Nice
gog.com is great because you can play the games you bought without any drm and no internet connection, something other game platforms don't always have. Its great because there are plenty of options of both old and new games with easy installation and no issues in the future.
Gog.com has delivered countless titles, playable straight "out of the box." This site has made it easy to download and play classic titles immediately on modern versions of Windows. I am impressed with the service and the library of games available.
After an update to their Galaxy software, none of my games worked. They were unable to resolve the issue because they don't have the technical capability.
After repeated emails, i am at a loss as the company won't refund me my monies (even though it accepts the programmes doesn't work on Mac, even though they clearly advertise that it does). Instead they offer a credit on their account. Why should i have to settle for a credit? Can anyone give me advise what i should do?
