Every buyer I've bought from has beautiful packaging and my favorite items come from Etsy. If you are unsure about a seller, check their individual ratings and reviews. Otherwise, highly recommend. There are many reasons to support small businesses and buy vintage :)
I got ripped off and etsy and the seller can do nothing about it!
Run Run Run Away from this site- there is no buyer protection or ability to leave feedback for the evil sellers if you purchase without an account set up
Hello, I'm extremely disappointed with your services. Firstly, a seller on your site ignored me for approximately two months. After that, I had to repeatedly ask them to refund my money. Secondly, I feel insecure on your site without any support. Thirdly, I have been waiting for my money for over a month now. This has been the worst experience of my life.
Everything I've ordered from here has arrived pretty quickly or at least on schedule. Maybe I've just been lucky. There are a lot of interesting products on the site. I just like looking through them to see what I can find. Love seeing how creative people can be.
Don't even bother. Etsy doesn't enforce their own rules and allows cheap, Chinese made garbage to be sold on their website as "handmade" or "vintage" when it's clearly mass-produced. As an online seller myself, I find this extremely dishonest and disgusting. It hurts every honest online seller by driving the price down making it impossible to compete fairly online. Everything is always about the bottom line and to heck with honesty and integrity! You won't have to worry about me EVER buying anything on Etsy and I'm for sure going to give Etsy the reviews they deserve wherever and whenever I find the opportunity. Word of mouth you know is your best friend or worst enemy. Yes, I did attempt to address this with Etsy about 150 times and they did nothing but send me BS excuses and canned email responses.
Etsy will shadow ban your shop for posts you make to social media about them & for returning negative surveys. I went from making thousands of dollars in sales every month to nothing in the blink of an eye. The only thing that happened in between was I made a truthful post on social media that portrayed the company's less than stellar side, and responded to a survey they emailed me with honest answers from my experiences. Unfortunately, those honest answers were not what etsy wanted to hear. The company was fantastic BEFORE it incorporated. Now, they are deceitful & care nothing about their sellers, only their stock investors.
What's up with Delayed, "Pending" Payments?
I have been buying on Etsy for 10 years without an issue. Last night, I purchased a bracelet from one of my favorite sellers. She got the notice that I bought it and we began discussing sizing. This morning the payment still shows, "Pending". An hour later I get an email from Etsy saying that they cancelled the order and that my account has been suspended! WHY? I've since sent several emails to them. There is no phone number!
Is this how Etsy treats a loyal customer?
I was an Etsy merchant for about five years and worked my butt off to make my shop successful. But year after year, Etsy seemed to create policies that worked against the merchants, not for them. One was allowing all the Chinese junk companies into the fold, which would jam up the search pages with non-handmade items. Etsy's last move was changing the search engines by giving the top rankings to new merchants as a way to lure them in. Why? So that when their rankings began to drop they would advertise for higher placement. All of these merchant sites are now using this trick. What this means to the merchant is measly sales, but when a site like Etsy has millions upon millions of shops under its roof, those measly sales add up. Bad for you, great for them. Once again, women get exploited in the workplace. ( Ironically, Etsy is owned by a guy.) Don't fall for these sites ladies. Find another way to sell your goods.
Etsy does nothing about sellers that scam customers. I bought an item that was blatantly NOT what seller claimed it to be (she even inadvertently admitted so when I asked to return it -- her reply "maybe you can fix it") but Etsy did nothing to hold this seller accountable. I guess the site doesn't care about its reputation. Also the process to deal with these issues is time consuming and confusing. Horrible experience.
Etsy is totally awful. I changed my address for a jewelry delivery I'd ordered, but their system defaulted to an old address I haven't lived at in 7 years. They are refusing to reimburse me the $60 I spent, for a technical issue that was 100% their fault. I have now spoken to two of their customer service representatives who were utterly useless and refused to help. I will never use them again.
Etsy does not vet the people that sell through them very well. I bought 4 bridesmaid dresses and they arrived 2 weeks late and the wrong color. $400.00 dollars gone as I returned them and have never received a refund. The time allowed to open a claim is too short so there was absolutely zero help from Etsy or PayPal.
This website is absolutely ridiculous almost everything on here is not handmade. They have copyright infringement that have no back up, you can literally go on and be like "I don't like this shop so I'll report their items" then Etsy.com does not review it they say oh well not our problem even though there is no proof of copyright. Honestly pathetic for a company claiming to help small businesses.
A family member sent me a lovely wooden plaque for my front door. It is round with a beautiful bow and our last name on it. The gift was made by a friend of hers whose business is "That's What She Made". Check her out - I love it.

The hidden fees, no response for emails. They'll suspend your account and withhold your money and you'll be talking to bots when you try to get in contact with support. Please look up all the reviews that are recent! Don't sell through Etsy! They're terrible! Save yourself the hassle! I'm STILL waiting for my money and it's been 3 months!
I've had few good sales on Etsy (as a seller) until I bumped into a scammer. No matter how hard I tried getting on hold with someone senior from Etsy, I did not have any luck. If you try to phone them up, they will tell you they are not authorised to advice. If you send email to support, they will respond with generic answers. I've lost the case despite pointing out all the facts about buyer's and providing proof on my side. Ah yes, when the buyer complained first, of course I offered immediate return+refund etc. But instead it was an immediate case filed. I was forced to do immediate refund + pat for return shipment. Surprise: this was completely not what has been sent to the buyer. When I tried to contact Etsy again, with even more proof (photos+videos of what I was selling against what I've received), my account was simply banned. Nowhere I've seen such a bad attitude to the sellers and so little protection.
Horrible customer service. Ordered 2 items and seller tracked both items in one tracking number. I only got 1 item. Seller emailed me saying she has no idea what she sent or what I ordered, but etsy still sided with her. You can never get a call back from a person, no one must read those emails of "i don't know". Absolutely ridiculous!.
My order never arrived, the supplier did not communicate and Etsy.com gave no support or have any method for redress. In the end thankfully PayPal was able to arrange a refund, but I would not recommend using the Etsy site as they are simply connecting buyers and sellers but offer no back up or support when things go wrong.
Smooth and easy process to buy. Thank you and will be looking for more deals on your site in the future. Staff is so friendly, they make you feel like home. I've purchased several timepieces from them and I highly recommend them.
I opened an Etsy account earlier this evening, excited to sell the graphic design work I've been doing in college. After uploading a trial listing to get an understanding of the program, I am greeted with an account suspension notice. I'm told to check my email as to why I was suspended, but no emails with any information about my suspension are provided. Furthermore, they have the audacity to continue to push their $0.20 fee for my listings despite my account being completely disabled. Their customer service is difficult to reach, you can only reach them via a ticket submission online - no phone, email, or office. It seems that all they care about is scooping off the top of the sellers they have been dealing with for a while. As the first impression of this service, I am extremely disappointed that they would put forth such little effort into resolving a situation like this. I will never do business with Etsy.
Etsy has 2027 listings for WEED PIPES on their website, when I posted a hand-made ceremonial native pipe - they took my posting down and said it was an infringement on their regulations regarding cannabis?!?!? WTH. LOL - weed pipes are okay, along with papers, blunts, one hitters, tons of paraphernalia etc... but DO NOT list a ceremonial pipe otherwise you are reprimanded and threatened by Etsy to take down your entire store. Absolutely disgraceful. No customer service either - No email or contact phone number in Canada. You can pay for customer service - otherwise there is none. This company is outrageous.
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
