The wait times on hold are ridiculous 20-30 minutes just to get someine on the phone. Then, they again put you on hold. One representative will ask for certain credentials or informtion to get into the account while others ask for additional information. Very frustrating...

I had an awful experience with E*Trade. I trusted them with my investment, but when I needed access to my funds, they suddenly became unavailable. Customer support was a nightmare—they kept giving me the runaround, avoiding my questions, and offering no real solutions. It felt like I had lost everything. My Roth IRA account has been restricted since 2019. This whole year, I have been trying to either get it unrestricted or transfer my money out. It is ridiculous that this issue is still unresolved. It is worth filing a complaint with FINRA, moving my accounts elsewhere, and passing along knowledge of this long-running issue to others so they can be aware.

Absolute Nightmare Customer Service Experience
I've been trapped in a two-month bureaucratic hellscape trying to unlock my brokerage account. Despite repeatedly submitting all required documentation (W9 and Social Security card), E*Trade refuses to unlock my account.
CRITICAL ISSUES:
- Endless phone calls (45-90 minutes each time)
- Constant runaround from customer service
- Perpetually "busy" managers who never resolve anything
- COMPLETELY BLOCKED from trading or selling stocks
- SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL LOSSES due to their incompetence
Their system is fundamentally broken. I've lost THOUSANDS of dollars while they play bureaucratic games. This feels like financial imprisonment. No company should be allowed to prevent a customer from accessing their own investments.
Run, don't walk, away from E*Trade. They are a nightmare for investors.

Ive applied to upgrade my options over a month ago. Every time i call, i'm told i need to revise a form. I revise the form, and while on the phone with your CS, I have them verify that it is correct. I dont hear anything, so I call back, and am told i need to revise the same form I've revised 2-3 times. They will not let me talk to someone with authority so i can figure out the problem. Your CS sucks! Also, I've noticed that your options pricing is higher than other brokerages. Twice this date I've found I've paid more per option than people on other brokerages. Your CS and program need to revised! I can not get any satisfaction from the options upgrade request made over a month ago, I am paying more per option, as well as paying fees for options. The service is terrible!
For stock plan account: no transparency, no document about fees, no statement after charging. I was tricked into paying 75$ for nothing, and they sold my stocks without permission. The transaction is a disaster. I wasted at least 5 hours on bull$#*!. The representatives on the phone knew nothing about what they were talking about and constantly gave me completely fake or wrong information! In the end, they made me pay for their fault and I had to worry for almost a month and do 4 times transfers to finally get a simple task done. There is also no documentation, and no transfer record for what they charge. I wish to have nothing to do with this company again!
The Etrade site broke down 5/13/2024 at aprox. 7:30 a.m. while I was using it and stayed down. I could not trade and lost lots of money on a trade I was just about to enter. I also lost money on trades that I was already in. Inexcusable. I called customer service and they said they are trying to fix it. Trying is not good enough when I'm losing money.
It went from the best online platform to trade to the WORSE since it got bought by Morgan Stanley!
If you need to talk with someone FORGET about it. You get placed in a waiting line for 30 to 50 minutes. You end up hanging up, tired of waiting.
So apparently E*Trade allows their new hire trainees to manage wire transfers now. Either the Trainee messed up, or the Manager messed up, but due to someone's oversight, they did not submit the Wire Transfer in time (we requested at noon today, and they didn't submit until after 4pm when the federal reserve closes).
This has caused us to miss our closing payment on the home, which has delayed closing until payment can be received, which won't be until Monday. We've had movers scheduled, utilities transferred, and other financial costs and losses due to E*Trade's mistake.
We will be leaving E*Trade first thing on Monday.

Horrible interface if you need to reset your password. Super frustrating, can't do it online, requires you call customer service with up to 30-minute wait, and then when you go to give them feedback in their feedback form to improve their system it says "unsafe characters in comments are not allowed", even took out all the hyphens - icing on the cake
Again, my account value changes prior to next day's open from the higher value I recorded AFTER close the prior day. They refuse to do anything saying their records are correct. They manipulate the values of the call options I have in my portfolio to where upon an option expiring "out of the money", the value lost exceeds the total amount I had even invested. How's it possible to lose more than the original call option investment? You can't possibly lose more in options. But they fandangle their records to show "everything looks correct on our end" BS. I have filed complaints with a few agencies, and they go through the motions and nothing ever gets done about it and they keep getting away with it. They won't stop until my account is bled out. There's money to be made in the markets but it really is one huge scam where the large institutions and investors are favored, leaching from the small investors. It's a big brotherhood and all they get is a slap on the hand saying, "don't do that". I see it stop for a while and then it starts all over again.
Took $2200 from me when they executed an auto liquidation on an option call when in the money at 4:45 on Fridays expiration and before it had a chance to exercise. Never gave me the chance to cover or sell on Monday. Instead sold it at market price loosing me an estimated $2200. I filed an SEC complaint. To be continued.

Trying to set up an account with ETrade today. They wanted copy of drivers license. Didn't like that Texas has black and white photo and agent suggested that I CHANGE a government issued document by adding pixels and color to it, just in order to open the account! Sorry, nope, not committing fraud for you guys. Fix your software!
Have been very happy with E*Trade for years. Since Morgan Stanley took over, customer service seems to have evaporated. Going back 2 weeks I've only received 3 of 12 dividend payments across all my accounts. Never had a missed payment in the past. Live chat tells me 1 to 10 days for payment to appear. When asked if I should expect this going forward, the reply I got was "Correct". Moving everything to Fidelity.
I've never been so poorly treated as a customer. Rude customer service, limited trading ability, they will never be helpful towards the retail trader. I switched to TD Ameritrade and made 400% profits with everything you need at your fingertips.
