Working with Dwolla has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences I've ever had with a service provider. After nearly three months of onboarding, jumping through their compliance hoops, and investing over $1,000 directly into Dwolla fees, I also spent more than $10,000 paying my development team to integrate our software with their API. Everything seemed to be going as planned—until, without any warning or explanation, Dwolla completely stopped communicating with us. Emails, follow-ups, support tickets—all ignored. We were left in the dark with a partially built platform, thousands of dollars lost, and zero clarity on why they abruptly ghosted us. Not only was this unprofessional and unethical, but it also created a massive financial and operational setback for my business. There was no transparency, no support, and no respect shown to us as a client. If you're a startup or small business considering Dwolla for payment infrastructure: proceed with extreme caution or better yet, look elsewhere. There are other platforms out there that actually value their customers and won't disappear on you without a word.
Horrible company to deal with. Signed up with them, sent tons of personal and professional information, copies of drivers licenses, bank statements, FEIN info, etc. After running a successful multimillion business with great relations with our merchant account, we wanted to explore this option. To date, weeks later, nothing at all. I get marketing emails, but nothing more. Really, really shady - we have closed two bank accounts because of it and recommend AGAINST using this service. Too new, too soon.
I get an email every time there's a transaction, clogging my inbox, but they won't send me one little report of the transactions they're processing. I even asked just for a total that they've processed, but nope.
Total waste of time. Support is a joke. They request a ton of information and never explain why. If you ask, they suspend your account and refuse to help.
Don't bother. It's too bad because the service would be helpful, but they are not doing it right.
Absolutely horrible experience.
Singed up thru godaddy bookkeeping. I had business accounting thru them.
Couldnt receive payments and the customer would get nothing but an error occurred.
Finally got to talk to them, they said i had to upgrade my account.
Many tries later, cancelled my account.
A horrible experience. Feels like a 14 year old in a basement decided to make a website with the cool new framework.
Steer clear.
We fought with our previous payment integration for about 6 months before we had decided to look for a new provider. We knew we needed to figure out an alternative. We didn't consider building our own integration with a bank because I'm a big believer in sticking with your core competency and partner with people that are much better at the things than I am... for us, that was Dwolla.
This site worked well for me - however one strange thing happened. On the screen which showed the amount I was sending and the name of the person to whom I was sending money, two completely strange names with gmail addresses popped up. I was able to click them off with no problem, but still a bit unsettling. Does this happen often?
I used Dwolla because I have GoDaddy Bookkeeping and it appeared to be a simple way to accept checks from clients. I've only had 3 client use it in the last 4-5 years. The 3rd one accepted and processed the payment. I withdrew it to my bank. Well, it never showed up in my bank. I found 2 emails and sent emails to both of them without a reply. I also found 2 phone numbers where you can leave messages that no one ever replies to.
Beware this is not a legit company!
They made an error -- told me funds were available from my client and then when I tried to withdraw it they told me the client's payment did not go through as authorized, to both my and my client's disbelief-- and then charged ME for trying the withdraw the funds they said were available. And then! They cut me off from customer support and shut down my account so I could not investigate them! They are criminals and utterly unprofessional. They should be shut DOWN. Do NOT fall into this trap!
Been using than them for 4 months and they are a new business with growing pains. They resolved a couple of problems and it is a great service that I could not live without now. The low fees for transferring thousands of dollars without the huge fees that everyone else charges is awesome.
The problem started when i started to fund my account. After wasting my time with requesting driver license, bank statements and lots of time wasting security team suspended my account.
I have not done any transactions with the account yet.
The reason stated is that i tried to fund my account with large fund. I made their job easier and i cancel the transfer of fund since they could not come up with a legally acceptable way for their behavior.
My impression is: it is kids operation, they are not ready for doing real business unless for kids.
Clumsy, small minded, useless and unreliable.
I work as a contractor for a nationwide handyman service. The service pays via dwolla and initiates the payment either the day of or the day after a job is complete. It typically take Dwolla three to four days to process the payment and credit it to my account. Then another day or two to process the request to transfer the funds to my bank account. All told, about a full week to get a payment from my employer to my bank. Square Cash and Paypal are almost always next-day. Avoid Dwolla if time is of the essence.
After six months of development on a project, and in moving my application to their production environment, my application to move to the production API was rejected and my account was suspended without explanation or warning. Support responded to my inquiry by explaining that they reject sole proprietorships, and they proceeded to up-sell their $2k/month plan, when the pay-as-you-go plan was the incentive as a single developer to build the product in the first place.
Why would ANY MERCHANT ever use a credit card processor again after exploring this site? Twenty five CENTS thats right thats the total cost to accept your customers funds. Look out AMX, Master Card & Visa a NEW Kids in town. Yes and as soon as I finish integrating it into my software program then LOOK OUT WORLD lol. Really Customer, Merchant or Developer GET ON OVER HERE.
Respects,
Spider B
I normally do business with a vendor all the time but every once in a while they mess up and lose my order. I submit a claim on the second time I have to email where my order is. Dwolla sends me a nice emails saying "at this time, unfortunately you have filed 2 claims with this vendor and you continue to do business with them so we cant help you"
NO WHERE IN THEIR POLICIES does it say you have a certain amount of claims you can file. I DIDNT EVEN GET A WARNING WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE.
Stay away. They cost me a few $100 on NSF fees charges by my bank & fees Dwolla made because they tried to withdraw money few days before it was due! Stay a few miles away from these thieves!
I suggest anyone ripped-off by this company to file a report here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/go/login?n=filereport.aspx
READ ABOUT CFPB FINE BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE IS NOT SECURE

DO NOT USE DWOLLA
They tell you one thing and then reverse it. Very bad about answering emails, if at all. Don't waste your time with this one.
Dwolla is a great payment processing platform. They do a wonderful job making the unbelievably complex, very clean and simple.
Let me tell you about this company. I wouldnt DO any business with this company. I had submitted my paperwork for my VAPE business 3 months ago. NEVER got an email, nothing. I go to login and its asking for more paperwortk. Submitted it. Then they asked me to SUBMIT my drivers license, which was BS as it has nothing to do with my business. I could have been an employee working on behalf of the company.
Anyways, lets get on with it. They told me they needed the paperwork and didnt say anything about my website. Nothing; well they told me after i uploaded PERSONAL information, IRS paperwork, they said we are going to look over account. The said they didnt want to approve me because I sold CBD products. WHAT? Ok then, what about Hemp iced tea? Do you block that? Or hemp backpacks? Hemp clothing or cotton? So I took it down and emailed them to tell them I removed it. I get an email saying my account status has changed. To my confusion and despair I logged in and im suspended? I email them and they said basically we do not want to do business with you.
Answer: My name is Ryan Simmons and I'm from San Antonio, Texas. I have an idea that will flip this rapid decline in doing business, any and all business! Seniors to millenials, I'm tired of the piss poor attitudes coming from everyone, but I can't blame anyone. These companies come from nowhere where they belong and act like they've earned my respect, don't need my business, and will still take my money at their discretion and then sell my information to the next fly by night group of scumbags in line to keep the momentum. And they are right! 100% they are right! Why? Because we as consumers have allowed the integration of a 3rd party holding our money hostage, and at no benefit to us. We've allowed them access to not only our immediate financial existence, but to our entire future existence, and those dependent on us as well, and for too long because we're told that we are so afraid to stand up and make a difference. Well, I am not and I don't give a shit what they tell me! They don't talk as much when they're getting popped in the mouth which is exactly what I'm prepared to do if its necessary. I am not a violent person, but I will protect what is mine after careful consideration that finds it appropriate. They no longer even need to steal from us after we've let them collect from the holes in our pockets that came from complacent stupidity, plain and simple. I say, NO MORE! As a unified group of intelligent people, it is most definitely possible to provide our own service to people who are also tired of this charade. I just had a $500 sale on ebay that was reduced by eBay of $11.00 which is fine because it was on their site and I'm all about paying my dues. However, they turned it over to PayPal who then charged me $18.00 to do absolutely nothing... They are not providing any service but to themselves and at the plight of our complacency and the absence in our demands for independent commerce. Not lawyers, and corrupt politicians that think they can tell us when we can breathe. I'm not gonna take it anymore so I'm sending this message out to you personally right now. I'm not a scammer, or one of them. I am a pissed off red blooded American that knows how to get things done, especially when I have another or other pissed off Americans that are equally intelligent to brainstorm, conjoin resources, think outside the box, and with nothing to lose other than our hard earned money along with our freedoms if we continue 1 day further on this current path. I don't want or need anyone else's money, and I refuse to believe that the vast majority of people appreciate being screwed by thieves that don't even have the decency to provide an English speaking individual with a decent disposition in customer service when we call to ask questions about the last time they screwed us. To answer your question, I think this is going to be the closest your going to get to an answer, and its as simple as getting 15-20 perfect strangers talking amongst ourselves until we have devised a plan to take over this market by providing an actual service that's actually affordable. The masses will pay happily for a service they can see with their own eyes and count it in their own account. Wouldnt you? Most important, we must stop the bleeding, kill the parasites, and get up off our asses and take the power back! My mom would be pissed at me right now if she saw me being accepting of this right here. This is madness, and I say its starts to stop now! Again, my name is Ryan Simmons. Im 39 years old, I'm from and live in San antonio, Texas. My phone number is 2109000351 and my email is ryan7nine@gmail.com and I don't care who knows. Why? All the wrong people already have my information anyway, and while there is still time and maybe a shred left of what is mine, I'm reclaiming it. Not for its value, but because its mine. If you agree with me, feel free to contact me and to forward my information to whoever you deem as a mutual soldier in this fight. I will never ask you for a dime and that is a promise. If done correctly, we will change the world for the better, and better than we've ever known for ourselves. Lets get this done and make a little money for ourselves in the long run. I'm open to your thoughts and suggestions, and if you're ok with asking the rest of us how we feel about getting screwed over instead of taking some back, that's cool too. I had to start somewhere and it just happened to land on you. Thank you, and have a great day!
