I had come across Jonathan and August Vintage after six months of very frustrated diamond hunting in the Australian market, which is saturated with overpriced stones and unreliable salespeople. Purchasing online was the next choice, but I was reluctant to invest the money in something I couldn't see or feel in real life first. After consulting with Jonathan, all my worries disappeared. He was kind, communicative and endlessly patient with me, despite the time zone difference and my endless questions. The vetting service he offers further put me at ease (and honestly floored me with how thorough and informative it was) and I'm so excited for my stone to be placed in its final home!
I can't recommend Jonathan highly enough - he definitely lives up to his glowing reputation!

Jonathan's AVC cut is an absolute perfection with signature bold facets reflecting pastels and the mesmerizing depth seen from any angle. It brings in so much character when compared to an average round diamond cut. I am also overjoyed to be able to choose this in a moissanite gem without the diamond's steep price tag. Jonathan and Vicki are awesome. I have been a 'wanna be customer' for more years than I care to count. They spent so much time with me even when I was ready to order, then something would come up (this happened more than once). They must have endless patience. They treat their clients exceptionally well, whether you are purchasing a moissanite or diamond. In the end I now have a gorgeous 8 mm 2.00 ct G/H VS August Vintage European Cut in my hot little hands. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the stone and the entire experience.

I cannot say enough positive things about Johnathan and his wife Vicki. Both are unbelievably professional, knowledgeable and kind! Jonathan answered all my calls (hahah which there were many) and questions (which there were also many lol) on replacing my engagement ring. He was always so patient and always a joy to speak with. When it came down to deciding between stones Jonathan took the time to not only send me pictures but also videos of each different stone In my setting so I could get a true visual of what my ring would look like. When I received the ring I was complete in awe with how beautiful it was! It was far beyond anything i ever imagined! Jonathan is amazing what he does! Let me start by saying Jonathan's knowledge of diamonds is undeniably one of the best in the business. I've watched videos and read articles by him, and they really are insightful. The Opulence Oval is absolutely gorgeous!

That being said, my issue is that Jonathan wasn't upfront with the costs. Yes, his website says that you pay for shipping on returns, but when he explicitly says "I could provide you with return shipping label at my cost" then deducts all the shipping costs from the refund, it definitely affected my experience working with him. I understand as he lost some money on shipping and spent a lot of his personal time helping me. However, I was out ~$200 from "shipping and transportation costs" because I did not purchase a diamond from him.

In the end, I would recommend his diamonds and service, but only if you know for sure what to buy. If you are unsure about a diamond, there are many other retailers out there that ship you the loose stone and do returns for free.

Jonathan was so great to work with. He responded in a very timely manner and didn't mind the 50 bajillion times we made small tweaks to get the ring just perfect. He had the right stone and was able to advise, without being pushy, on size, appearance, and flow.

We had originally gone to a big time diamond dealer and they have over 4000 settings to look at. We found a setting we liked, but not loved. We took this base idea to Jonathan and even though we didn't REALLY know what setting we initially wanted- he worked with us to create an absolutely gorgeous ring. AND- we got double the diamond carat weight for the same price as the big time "best price" diamond store, at I'm sure better quality. The ring is a fireball. Thank you Jonathan!

I just received my e-ring and wedding band today, and I could not be more thrilled. I did my research before deciding on Distinctive Gem, and Jonathan and Vicki are as amazing and patient as all the accolades that you see online. I've been stalking moissanites and non-mined diamonds for years for ethical reasons, and I've looked at all the name brands. None are cut as beautifully as DG. Jonathan worked with me to customize a cathedral solitaire setting and matching band with lab-created diamonds, and he did it all within my budget! I also received my rings in exactly 3 weeks from placing the order! Undoubtedly, I will be a customer for life:-)

My fiancé and I had reached out to Jonathan in finding a 3 ct radiant diamond with pretty specific requirements. Boy did he over deliver, he found us the perfect stone at a great price! I catch my fiancé even staring at it because of how beautiful a stone it is. Jonathan was always very responsive in our email communication and has the best customer service, he went above and beyond for us and I am so glad we found him after a nightmare situation with another company.

I am thrilled with my new pendant from Distinctive Gem. It is 7mm and set it the Stuller Fleur-de-Lis setting with a 24 inch white gold rope chain, 1mm.

I purchased this partially for a special treat, and partially to see how I felt about this cut in advance of a big anniversary next summer. I was also wondering if I would have any "mind clean" issues with a lab stone. So far, I feel the opposite - thrilled to have such an extraordinary creation to enjoy! And I LOVE the cut. My wheels are turning for future projects!

Jonathan's team did a lovely job with the setting. I picked a very low cost setting since I may opt to upgrade this stone next year. I'm pleasantly surprised at how very much I like it.

I am a very picky consumer, and have purchased from all the top vendors (Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, Blue Nile, ID Jewelry, etc). Distinctive Gem is the best of the best!

From the start August vintage has exceptional quality diamonds and moissanite gemstones to choose from with the finest optical quality out there. They know their stuff. The process of buying a center stone and building the ring went smoothly. Finally when we received the ring it was exactly what we wanted and we couldn't be happier with it overall. We were just blown away with all the sparkle, beauty, and quality! Its magnificent! We just loved our experience with August vintage and we will return for future purchases. Cant thank them enough for making our anniversary ring purchase a wonderful experience! We are extremely happy! 5 stars, we would do 10 stars but it's not available to choose lol :)

Jonathan and Vicki's service serves up top notch professionalism with a large side of friendly. I was looking for an emerald cut to fit within a platinum setting I already had. Communication was excellent and timely with pictures, videos, and Sarin reports. We even had a nice phone conversation when prong details couldn't be conveyed via email. When my setting and the DG emerald cut was delivered as a completed ring I was one very happy customer! I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.

I've long wanted an AVC, going on a decade. I've been watching Jon's videos for years and I was so beyond happy when he started cutting lab diamonds. I could afford an AVC! Start to finish the experience was excellent, Jon and Vicki were responsive and friendly and the diamond - gorgeous. Just like I knew it would be. Buying with Jon takes a lot of the worry out of buying a diamond online. His proprietary cuts are designed for optimal performance and I knew I would get a well cut stone, and I did.

So far I have only been in contact with Jonathan once for his complimentary diamond concierge service with Bluenile, but I can say it was one of the best decisions I have made so far in this engagement ring process! He was very knowledgeable, informative, easy to talk to, and helped me find a beautiful diamond. He is also working on some custom setting design ideas for me right now and I am eager to see what he puts together! Would highly recommend the diamond concierge service to anyone looking for some expert insight on what diamond to choose.

Buying a ring can be stressful and difficult. You get thrown at you all these numbers and specs and it's overwhelming. Enter Jonathan. We had such an amazing time working with him. We started with him 1/16 and within three weeks, I had the perfect ring. He's an expert in diamonds and he knows exactly what you want. I was iffy on buying a diamond without looking at it but with Jonathan, you don't need to look. He vets the diamonds himself and picks the best one for you.
