My daughter was verbally abused on this site by user Ontheand and User Obliterator, one of them threaten her with physical harm and this was reported to the authorites and discog support. Discog support was shocking instead of removing the two users they blocked my daughters account, This site support is shocking and they do not care about their users and allow long time users like the above to troll, harrass and verbally abuse other members. Totally sickening, i wounder if the situation was on the foot, and the abuse was aimed there family, how would they feel.
Most items I've ordered are graded incorrectly. But more recently I've ordered from a couple of Russian sellers who are selling bootleg cds that skip and don't play properly. Discogs don't particularly care, and their solution is for me to seek a refund through my bank!
Check out HTFR and other places. I thought that I was not committed to buying by having items in my basked, I was wrong, genuine mistake... people only leave negative reviews, positive ones people dont bother with so I cant buy vinyl's because of their penalising me for this mistake 10 years ago. Disogs dont resolve these issues and thus is preventing buyers making purchases. Try eBay and you local record shops... Disogs is a disaster
I just heard of group people are taking legal action against discog head of support Fiona Thompson for there staff allowing their long time members to bully new and other users, even though reports were issued on the comments posted on the site for the world to see, no action has been taken yet to removed them the customer service is dreadful 3 years ago I was verbally attacked by two members for adding a release I submitted what's known as SR report but in stead of them assisting me I Staff member called Aaron just ban my account, this is what the site does protects the vermin bullies and lets them destroy a person reputation
Luckly I has friends on their who help me purchase stuff if i cant find it anywhere else.
I hope these people succeed.
I just wished I had stopped by here before involving myself with Discogs as a customer. Would've been spared all the displeasure and trouble come my way. For reasons that baffle, the site favors sellers over buyers, even to the point of allowing the former to verbally abuse and threaten (as I was) the latter with seeming impunity. My complaint about being so poorly treated by a vendor was met with little empathy but much beating-around-the-bush concerning site "policies" that serve little purpose other than as evasive measures. Meanwhile, sellers take your money, take their sweet time about putting purchases in the post, all the while free to mis-represent the condition and the quality of what's on offer. Again, your complaints about these egregious practices will be slow-walked through the site's "policy" mill. Shame on everyone at Discogs for conducting business in such a careless, shabby way!
DONT BUY FROM DISCOGS. THEY WILL BE BANKRUPT SOON> They are rip off artists, total $#*!heads. Below par business. Dont give them a dime
Support service and discogs employees are disrespectful of customers, artists and are systematically sexist. They are unable to engage into any reflection about anything, so they only answer non-sense to any question and will consider you offensive if you develop any philosophical topic. The website as a whole is unable to tackle any systemic issue, offers no telephone line to solve any issue and no possibility of complaint about anything since their support service only answers non-sense. I think that better websites for record sales by people who have a real respect of customers, of artists and individuals, might solve the problem and put an end to this awfully conservative, narrow-minded and strictly materialist website. So, the best thing might be to boycott Discogs in the meantime and develop new platforms. My feeling about their customer service is that their mentality is close to the one showed for death penalty decisions in Irans or to Putin sending people to the Gulag to defend their own irrational interests. I mean, they are an actual threat to democracy, and the fact that they try to convince the world that Americas legal defect should rule the world is a real plague for any music lover with any sincere interest in records.
Discogs is a respectable worldwide portal for purchasing and selling music. The catalog is extensive and accurate. The sellers are professional
Discogs was once great about protecting their buyers. That is no more. I purchased an expensive record from one of their buyers. When I received the record the catalog number didn't match the listing. The guy blamed it on a misunderstanding, but he was clearly trying to pull a fast one. I paid for the return mailing and expected that the mailing fees would be refunded with the purchase price. Nope. Discogs policy leaves that to the seller's discretion. So, to add insult to injury, I had the privilege of paying for the experience of being ripped off on Discogs. Shop somewhere else or, better still, support your local record store.
There are so many SCAMMERS on this SITE who would take your money and nevery send you the merchandise! Site only cares about getting their Commission.
Great access to plethora of music with knowledge, reviews etc from contributors
However, as a site it's badly disposed towards smaller buyers and sellers - admin staff strike people's accounts without plausible explanation, suspending them from activity often mid purchase. As a 100% buyer, with well over 600 purchases my account had been suspended for no reason given.
Forum is awful too - opinions are shut down and often ops are victimised. Deplorable service in some ways. Leaves a bad taste in mouth. Seller/ buyer feedback system is also open to abuse
If stick to just buying and selling - it's very good. But other activities such as submissions are also a minefield and not worth the hassle
Sellers generally good but never go for a few points below 100% and stick to sellers with under / around a 1000 odd sales under their belt.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it" The new compulsory ASP is appalling. They ask us to work out postage for any number of items to anywhere in the world! I for one (amongst many others) am not prepared to do thatI hope when your commission income takes a big hit you'll change your mind. Not that anyone at Discogs will even read this of course.
Enforcement of new shipping policies means the buyer suffers as well as the seller. There are a lot of items that are now unavailable because discogs refuses to allow them to be for sale unless the seller adheres to a new set of policies. They were fine without this. Use Elvinyl, a new up and coming site or check websites of independent record shops for a far more satisfactory experience.
Discogs was the greatest site for music collectors and sellers but now they have introduced the most confusing mandatory shipping policies ever devised, they have nastily turned against all the small time sellers that helped build the site and have ignored repeated requests for a revision of these awful and stupid shipping policies.
I have deleted my account and I know many others have also deleted theirs, what a shame!
Once the greatest music sales site, now a pile of garbage. For small sellers / hobby sellers trying to raise a few $$ ££ to either buy new tunes or just to pay the bills has turned into a nightmare due to the new shipping policy. As an older seller, I am completely clueless on how to update my shipping costs due to the fact that some vinyl / sleeves / packaging envelopes / dividers have slightly different weights. Cannot be bothered to spend countless hours trying to work out shipping costs for all the different continents / countries. Goodbye Discogs.
A great case study on how to disrespect your customers and on how to destroy a perfectly working system with mandatory b%//$hit rules.
I've been a Discogs user for many years. I buy more than I sell. Many of the sellers I've done business with range from private sellers to dealers to small businesses who also operate brick and mortar shops. I find that Discogs does a very poor job regulating shipping practices. Many sellers gouge the cheapest and most economical domestic shipping method, Media Mail. Lots of sellers tack on a few more bucks to make-up for fees they incur. Discogs should set the threshold for fair and honest shipping so that this unfair and unethical practice stops. If sellers really want to get back fees just increase the cost of your item... not shipping. There's also serious issues with sellers of all kinds poorly grading records. You wonder if they even checked the condition before listing. These sellers with countless negatives and neutral feedback marks should just be banned. Why is it ok to let a poor seller like that continue to do bad business? Consumers are honestly too naive or just hope to be the one out the bunch to have an acceptable experience. I find that several sellers I've bought from though are nice, fair, and honest people. I also find it most cumbersome to add releases to Discogs. There should be a way to scan the media so that all of the data gets entered in accurately and efficiently. Discogs needs to do a better job at regulating scalpers. If the media is 2 years old or less they should require it only be sold for the suggested retail value. Any account attempting to sell 3 or more copies after 2 years for 50% more than the original retail price should be suspended. All sellers should be required to provide clear terms. Discogs should really have a standardized template that all sellers must agree to. It's disappointing that Discogs offers a "make offer", but if a seller declines they are unable to counter offer. Sellers should also have option to initiate a bundle discount for customers buying multiple items. It's ridiculous Discogs hits sellers with this high fees when there's so much room for improvement. I'm grateful for the vast knowledge base that is Discogs. I do like how fairly easy it is to find all the different pressings, versions, and more.
Discogs banned me before I even had an account. I tried signing up, and their account verification email never came. After waiting a few weeks I tried a password reset and the password reset email came, but it didn't work. I contacted support, unaware that Discogs is notorious for their adversarial customer support. They told me that the account with that email address never existed (despite the password reset email working).
So I made a new account as support suggested, and had the same issue. After waiting a few weeks and with no working password reset, I contacted support. They told me that their anti-abuse system somehow detected that my account was connected to some other account they had closed. I told them about my previous account, but they said it had nothing to do with it.
They told me I wouldn't get an account unless I told them more about this mystery account I knew nothing about, and they refused to tell me about it. I kept trying to get more details, explaining to them that I live at a university and share an IP address with thousands of people I don't know. They refused to hep, and when I said the word "crap" when I was flustered by their continued harassment of me, they scolded me and deleted my ticket.
Every time I've tried to make an account since hasn't worked. I've tried multiple browsers, IP addresses, etc. Whatever tracking magic they use is pretty effective at enforcing a ban on me for never using their service.
With customer service this adversarial, I sure would not trust Discogs with my money either.
Discogs is a ripoff I lost at least $100.00
Stick with EBAY can't say enough bad things about Discogs
Very often ( I'd say 99.9 %) The item shown IS NOT THE ITEM YOU WILL RECEIVE. Sellers use photographs of rare items to lure collectors but send total RUBBISH. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING AND SHOULD BE BANNED BY DISCOGS. Getting money back becomes a real pain in the butt. Returning items will no doubt lose you the postage cost. AVOUD AT ALL COSTS.
Answer: You don't know until you "Place Order" - which is a "Commitment to Buy"! So you might be committing your self to $100 shipping, and if you don't pay, the seller can give you a bad review. It's a con - they list low to get your attention then pile on the rest via shipping charges.
Answer: If you are a victim of DISCOGS scam, please write to consumer protection of Oregon state. I can`t post the link(due SJ guidelines) but you can search on Google and find the website.
Answer: If you are DG submitter and have many releases, sooner or later DISCOGS will put you on CIP meaning you `ll be banned to post new LPs untill you you `ll gain enough correct VOTES from privilleged users(who have a right to vote if submitters posted correct realeses). It is a scam tactic to force submitters to bribe other users to vote correct and CIP will be removed from them. Beware! DISCOGS is a synonim of WORLD WIDE MUSIC SCAM.As you see the company doesn`t respond at SJ negative reviews.
