Wish I had read the reviews! It has been nearly 2 months since I placed my order. I received on email in response to my questions about my order. I was a carefully crafted email about the woes of COVID and how hard they were working in the nursery to fill orders: and grow new stock", and that many of that plant would have to wait til the next season, Spring 2020. Meanwhile they get to hold my $100. You cannot reach anyone by phone.
I assume after reading all these disastrous reviews that I have been scammed. I have just recently sent them a "a communicate with me or else" email and gave them 3 days to respond. I may not wait now I've seen these other reviews. I will call my bank and Better Business Bureau.
I hope at this point they haven't shipped anything from what I have heard about what others have received. I will attempt to cancel immediately.
Took two months to get my order. Four plants were dead, three plants (the most expensive in the order) were missing altogether. Repeated attempts to call Direct Gardening were unsuccessful because they leave their phone off the hook and all one hears is a busy signal. No response to email inquiries. I disputed the charge on my credit card, and it my bank wrote it off as a de minimus loss and issued me a refund. I wish my bank had reversed the charges and denied this company payment. I have never dealt with a more scammy company.
I tried canceling my order within a couple weeks of placing the order. I was unable to connect with anyone on the phone and then the website was down for a long time. Several emails over a period of time went unanswered. Then I received an email just a couple weeks ago that my order could not be cancelled because it was already in the shipping department. What? No telephone number to shipping. I've contacted my bank and they are investigating the company for fraud.
Received this Cascading Wisteria Tree bare root from Direct Gardening in May of 2016. This year (July 2020) was the first year it bloomed. Just wanted others to know how long they take. This year was also this first year we staked it into tree form.
They did not send all of the plants I ordered, and then continued to not believe me, requiring me to send back the label each time via snail mail, even though I photographed the label. This is truly disgusting. I will never ever ever use this site again.
Its now been over 3 months since they took my order and charged my account. I saw they had the wrong order in their system, so I cancelled the order. Three days later they told me they were sending the order anyway! I got half of it but I had to pay to return it. They gave me a credit for what I returned, but what I never got they have yet to refund me! They do not answer telephone calls and only rarely and cryptically respond to Emails. I've sent 4 emails asking for my refund. I had no intention to post this, but I'm out of patience. At this point I believe only a court will get them to respond.
Anyone who has bought from this company please contact the states Governors office. Report this company. Allot of people have already reported this company and we need to get them shut down. They sell dead trees ( these are not doormat trees) these are dead bushes this company bought from nurseries that are shutting down
Cancelled my order and they shipped it anyway! I was told entire order was cancelled and I would receive my refund by June 1st. I received a refund for one plant. I called and was told I could return the order when it arrived at my expense to send it back. All orders must be cancelled by email and even then its didn't happen. Very poor customer service. I spoke to a Barbara, Melody, and a supervisor named Judy. The Division Manager is Grace Avery. She is in charge of the office and shipping departments. Maybe we should all give her a call! How about we all give the Better Business Bureau a call for this business. There's an office in Peoria, *******741. I've read some of the reviews and see I'm not the only one having problems.
I ordered 3 bags of 20 each potatoes. Took 8 weeks to arrive. Opening them up was a risk to my health (experienced an asthma flare up) as they were rotten, moldy, dripping and smelling horrible once the bags were opened. The actual potatoes were cut up pieces of about 1" in diameter with no sprouting in sight. This was not stated at time of sale, so you think you are getting potatoes ready for planting... Nope.
60 tiny potatoes cost $40.
I contact Direct Gardening and their response is to mail it all back if you want a refund rather than a replacement (which after waiting for 8 weeks, we are WAAAYYY beyond planting date, so no, I do want a refund. I checked and yes, they wanted the rotten potatoes back, but they did not provide and address to mail it back. So I am mailing it back to the shipping label address and hoping to get my refund within the next month?. I am out $8.30 plus a lot more in medicine due to the mold exposure.

Nobody ever will answer the phone you say you have customer service I think not. Can not get a update on my order has been over 5 weeks and nothing. Horrible service will never order from here again. I will cancel my order and buy from Wal-Mart
This company is very slow about fulfilling the order. I had to cancel after 6 week. It became too late in our planting season to get the plants, bulbs and seeds in the ground. Very dissappointed in the service. I would rate them less than 1.
This company will take your $ and you will receive rotten products if they ever even actually get sent out. They do not have a working phone # you cannot get them on the phone, I have tried for months. Customer service through email is a runaround, over and over and over. They are criminal in my opinion at this point. I have already jumped through hoops trying to get my $100 refunded with still no luck. I even mailed them back the products along with the original labels etc etc that they ask for. They claim UPS must have lost the package, that they never received it, although UPS gives confirmation of delivery. They are the most corrupt company I have ever had to deal with and I reallllly wish instead of trusting a midwest gardening center, I would have researched and found all of these bad reviews and saved myself from being scammed. I hope this helps prevent others from being scammed as well...
I order flower bulbs from then April 14th. Now its almost a month and still nothing. I can see if they were real plants these are bulbs should not take this long and now it will be to late to plant them if they do come that is. Contact them a week ago said they will be shipped soon but couldn't tell me when.
Do NOT buy anything from them. They will send you some garbage. Your order will arrive dead. You can plant them as they suggest, anyway your plants will remain dead. You can ask replacement and will get one more package of garbage. All of your replacement plant will come dead. Customer service will not help you with anything. Avoid this company. You will never grow anything from their plants (trees, flowers, berries...). Lost money and time.
I bought Hosta from them that was supposed to be an assortment of 6 varieties. They said they could not guarantee which ones would be in the assortment but one variety isnt an assortment. In the meantime I had purchased some more plants which they "immediately charged me" for and the advertisement said shipped within two weeks. I checked with them and they said they would be shipped in Sept and I ordered the first of July. These plants needed to be in the ground in July so they said they would expedite them which never happened. I have paid my credit card but disputed the charge today. Just tired of their crap. Avoid them if you can and order from some one else.
I ordered about 50 dollars worth of plants. Had them take 3 months to ship them to me, and i've spent over a month after that trying to dispute why it's acceptable to ship plants in a plastic bag so that they are smashed when they arrive. They have asked me for my credit card statement which is super scammy, and have told me various untrue things i have to do on my end for a refund, like shipping the shipping label back to them. Which they refused. I have tried everything, am disputing it with my credit card company, and am reporting them to better business bureau. Terrible customer service. I told them i will make one bad review a day until they refund me. They have refused after writing to them for over a month with documentation that the order was smashed upon arrival and have said that since it's over a month they are not giving me a refund. Well that's not right, been dealing with them for a month, since receiving it. Don't buy from them.

You are better off standing on your roof and throwing away dollar bills- At least you will be popular- Stay away from this site; They said wait 6 weeks and then return dead plants. Sure, go to the post office during a pandemic to pay high rates to send back dead plants. I've dealt with other sites like Burpee, Amazon and Home Depot and gotten really good stock
Ordered on April 26th and still do not have any of the order. Tried to call to see what the status is and keep getting line busy and disconnected. Guess that is because everyone else they have scammed are trying to call also. Guess I will wait till next year and order my 13 trees at a more reputable site.
I'm stilll waiting over 2 1/2 months for an order that I should have had in the Spring. They charged my credit card and now will not give me a refund because they say the order is in the shipping dept. now after 2 1/2 months. They need shut down! What a rip-off!
I ordered from this company end of March- they charged me account on 4/5. As of 4/27 I had not received anything (either the order or an email advising when plants would be shipped). I called customer service a few minutes ago and they could not tell me when the item would be shipped. HORRIBLE service and order fulfillment. I would have been satisfied if I was told when it would be shipped but they couldn't. No way to run a business; they should be ashamed of themselves
Answer: Yes it Is absolutely real. They are thieves. I just called my credit card company to do the dispute becoz they are not responsible for the dead plants they sent to me with all the charges including the shipping fee. This company has to be shut down for their dishonest business. I will fight for it and no more people will be mistreated and cheated.
