SCAM
August 30, 2021

I ordered several plants amounting to 69.41 including taxes and shipping on March 3 2021. It took forever for them to deliver so I tried to cancel. They refuse to cancel, They arrived on June but mostly dead. I requested for full refund but as per their policy they can only replacement. I tried to revive the plants but only 1 survived. I tried to communicate with them several times requesting replacement. So far I have received none and I am still waiting.
NEVER AGAIN! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SCAMMERS!
Their cancellation policy is only on their favor. If you buy they take your money and ypou will never get it back.

OUR SHIPPING POLICY

As a general rule, we begin shipping nursery stock at the end of Feb/beginning of March to the southern states and warmest climates first. As weather and climatic conditions permit, we begin shipping to other locations. Due to the nature of some sensitive items, we may not be able to ship certain greenhouse items and houseplants until the beginning of April.

If I could I would give this company minus star.
September 10, 2019

If you have ever had to deal with any horrible company and thought it was the worst, Direct Gardening company is thousand times worse. They sent me dead plants and when I asked to return, they wanted me to send the original package back and to pay for the return shipping cost. What? I cannot believe that there is a company like this exist in America.

This company not only makes money from products they sell but they also make money from overcharge for shipping. At the end, you will lose money one way or another way. I purchased 24 white strawberry roots; it took them a week to ship the order out and took ten days for me to receive it. The worst thing was all the roots died and the package was a plastic bag. I returned the package by USPS and paid only $4 for two days shipping. So, they made at least $7 to $8 for only the shipping. This is why they love to send dead products. They don't care about their customers, they only care about how to steal your money. They are the scam company.

Please, do not ever ask for the refund if they didn't issue the cost of shipping. You should call your credit cards to dispute it. If there are many people call and dispute transactions. For a long term it will hurt the company for it and you will get the full refund.

This is a link you can find it helpful if they overcharge for shipping:

Disgruntled Customer 2.1
August 27, 2018

Here's the updates: I received the letter and the original shipping label back from direct gardening (not capitalized out of disrespect) most probably after the BBB had posted my complaint and contacted them. There appeared some initials on the page by one item (remember I was instructed by the supervisor to include in the letter "no substitutions without prior authorization). The brief information on the page states " Orange Glory Butterfly is being substituted. Do you want to change your order?" My first thought is why is this being conducted via Pony Express Snail Mail? Didn't I include all contact information to them? How about a 'ringie dingie' discussion to quickly resolve this issue? The second thought is the other 13 items listed are NOT substitutions, why am I not being notified that the rest of the replacement order has shipped? Instead NONE were shipped... to date. Here's the part that makes my blood pressure even higher over the whole business... as of 8/24/18 their web site showed all in stock... ALL including the Orange Glory Butterfly. Here's my Care Plan for all of you readers: 1. Check out Direct Gardening's affiliate companies on line as they are international, yeah that big. Just about any mail order gardening company is one of House of Wesley's subsidiaries just as Direct Gardening is, heck, it's the same address! 2. DON'T BUY from any of these companies. From my Internet search it seems that no matter what the name of the company they are practicing under the same dishonest business model. 3. COMPLAIN/REPORT about being ripped off. Although the BBB has no legal jurisdiction, it can strong arm The Co.' a bit and give it a poor grade without BBB sanction (for now on I'm checking any company with the BBB before they get my hard earned money). 4. Sue in your Small Claims Circuit Court in your County. I don't like the fact that House of Wesley and its' subsidiaries are practiced at the art of stealing so I am sharing the information I've found out thus far. If your court requires you know the Registered Agent for' The Co': Ms. Deanne Colledge, President@ house of wesley@ *******943 OR *******466... Give Her A CALL! I'm sure she's dying to hear what you think;-) Why not include a call to Mr. Wm. Mueller, Secretary while you're at it?! Have the Sheriff's Dept in McClean County, IL serve notification, this is currently a $66.00 fee and may not be worth it to some... for me it's become the principle... let's face it, as consumers we have very little protection and help when we are swindled... go get'm... as for me I will be a thorn in their side and do what I can to hopefully get them put in Chapter 11status.

Plants moldy, dying, and not wrapped to protect roots
June 13, 2018

QUICK SUMMARY: I will NEVER do business with them again! The worst customer service I've ever encountered, terrible product. Took one month to arrive. Plants were DYING and MOLDY. Three were not what I ordered. Roots were not wrapped at all, they were bare and open to the air, not even newspaper covered them. I can exchange and have them send me more dying and moldy plants. Or get a **partial** refund if I also pay shipping to send the plants back. THE DETAILS... I placed my order on May 11. It was supposed to arrive within 2-3 weeks. At 3 weeks I attempted to call several times and got a busy signal each time. I emailed and got a "form letter" saying I'll get a notification when the item ships with a tracking number... Oh, it's been 3 weeks already and it didn't even ship yet? At 4 weeks, I called a few times and got a busy signal. So I emailed to cancel the order. A couple of hours later, I got an email saying they couldn't process a cancellation because it already shipped. Hmmm, it magically shipped when I wanted to cancel my order... They also gave me a tracking number that had no information attached to it. On June 12, one month after placing my order, a red plastic BAG arrived at my door with a bunch of loose plants inside. Nothing was wrapped properly to limit damage and drying out. Basically, it looks like they ripped the plants out of the growing medium and put them all into one bag. There were minimal roots left on the plants. No sawdust or newspaper or anything to keep everything moist... 80% of my cost went to the rose tree and the hydrangea trees. The rose tree was not red and yellow, which is what I ordered. One section was already dead, there was mold growing right in the middle on a second section (not even where it could just be pruned off easily), and on a third section had what looks like spider webs all over except it wasn't spider webs. The rose tree was loose in the bag, the roots were exposed, and the roots looked very dried out. (In case you don't know, the roots are typically the most important part of the plant and if they're too damaged or dried out, these sensitive delicate things die quickly and won't be growing back. You'll either have a dead tree in a year or a tree with very stunted growth for the entire life of the tree.) Nothing wrapped around the roots at all, they just shook them out and plopped the whole thing in the red plastic flimsy shipping bag. One of the branches of the tree was broken in half. This is a small tree, too, basically a stick with two branches sticking out of it, it's not like there's a lot of room for recovery from all this damage. So that one plant was 60% of the cost of my order... On to the next item... The hydrangeas were bushes, not trees, which is what I ordered, and they were placed into their own bags with nothing to protect the roots and they, too, were plopped into the red bag. The exposed roots also looked very dry. At least they had their own bag. The 10 eye of tiger iris that I ordered were also moldy and some were soft to the touch, like old garlic. Maybe half looked fine. They were in a clear bag that was stapled shut. Nothing to protect them or keep them moist, just exposed. The 6 stargazer lilies were moldy, and they also were in a clear bag stapled shut with nothing to protect them or keep them from drying out. The 5 lily of the valley pips were all **crammed** into one bag and stapled shut. There's no way those roots weren't damaged in the process of stuffing them all into such a small bag. The three "free" gladiolus were moldy and also in a clear empty bag with no protection. The 3 "free" strawberries were the most pathetic things I've ever seen, and I've purchased strawberry plants in the past from other stores. (They were obviously grown in sand, if that matters to you.) Again, in an empty clear bag with no protection, just stapled shut. The 3 "free" balloon flowers weren't actually balloon flowers but were blue poppy. So the only item out of the 8 plants I ordered that I was somewhat satisfied with was... Ummm... Hmmm... At this point I was quite upset. I didn't even bother calling the company, I knew I would get a busy signal, so I emailed them to request a full refund. Got a form email response telling me what their return policy is. (Basically, if the plant is DEAD, and I'm sure it's DEAD, and it had better be DEAD, I can exchange at their cost for new plants. Or if I want to return, I can pay shipping and they'll refund my money minus the original shipping charges. So a partial refund plus I pay shipping again. I'm sure they end up making money off this if I pay shipping both ways.) Three different fonts in the email, so obviously copied and pasted. So I've contacted the credit card company to dispute the charges. They need 7-10 business days. In the meantime, I'm paying for shipping to get these MOLDY and DYING plants back. Will be contacting BBB for the first time ever.
