I have not bought items due to ConsumerLab's information. Elderberry is one such vitamin--no significant evidence that is does what some companies say on commercials.
The only thing I have noticed lately is there are not as many products reviewed. One example is multivitamins, previously you reviewed New Chapter and it is not listed currently.
In general I trust and enjoy reading everything you post.
I think consumer lab is great. I love being able to get on the website and check many health issues. But there are times the supplements i take are not listed and it leaves me wondering if what I am taking is the best for me. I realize there are so many companies offering supplements and they cannot list them all. Also there are some issues that makes me wonder about their findings. I am wondering for instance about Vit D-3. My naturopathic Dr says I should have my levels at 60-75 and your recommendations are much lower. Hmmmm. I wonder which is right.
But over all I do like referring to your website for information. Thanks
Glad that you are benefitting from our information, Marilyn. Regarding vitamin D, there are now many studies (noted in our Vitamin D Supplements Review) showing that the level you mention (assuming you are referring to ng/mL) is too high -- you start to lose the benefits of vitamin D when you get too much. Be careful. https://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/vitamin-d-supplements-review/vitamin-d/
Well researched reviews, independent evaluation of supplement contents which reveal contaminants, lack of accurate labeling of contents, problems with delivery. I use personally and professionally as a physician for my recommendations to my family, patients, peers.
Thank you for posting that nice review. We're very glad to know that our information is helpful you and many others!
The research that is collected regarding a topic is comprehensive and informative. The newsletter by email includes current events and supplements you find advertised for the treatment of many conditions. Your questions are answered about various products and the quality of the supplement. Most helpful.
Thanks for your feedback, Yolanda!
I was so pleased and impressed to hear from Dr. Cooperman himself in response to a recent inquiry. He answered my questions. I love the wealth of knowledge available on the website, and that suggestions are appreciated, encouraged, and welcomed.
Glad that was helpful to you, Sandi. We appreciate good questions -- they continue to push us in new directions -- although, of course, we can't answer all the questions we receive. Tod Cooperman, M.D.
CL is my go to for supplement facts and that is important because products can be advertised for all sorts of miracles and may not have any truth about their claims nor ingredients. My recommendation for CL is to not group all B vitamins into a lump and be more specific to each and I would like to see lab results for oils such as jojoba, sweet almond oils, coconut oil, etc.
Thanks for your nice review and suggestions, Priscilla! We do have a review of coconut oils (at https://www.consumerlab.com/coconut-oil/) and many other oils, with more on the way. Our B Vitamin Review does breakout the single B vitamin supplements, but there are also many combinations (B "complexes"), making it hard to separate these due to the extensive overlap -- but we'll certainly keep your comment in mind.

Have been a subscriber to Consumerlab for several years and have found them invaluable for the information they provide on products, prescribed and OTC medicines, and so much more. This is a reliable, fact based source that you can rely on. Have used many times to check on side effects, credability of product claims, supplements, and cost of dosage.
We're glad to hear that ConsumerLab.com is helpful to you, Jerome. Thank you for your review!
I greatly appreciate someone doing the job with supplements, that the FDA should be doing with prescription drugs, but is not. Maybe CL could also start testing some common prescription drugs? I find the research summaries particularly helpful. I have a PhD in research, but not in these areas. So, I am doubly appreciative, first that CL understands the power and the limits or research, and its importance, and second that they also understand the many aspects of health, disease, biochemistry, etc. No one person can be sufficiently knowledgeable in all these fields, all on their own. What a valuable service CL provides. I believe that the mere fact that someone is checking, has done quite a bit to clean up the entire field of supplement mfg and sales. PS: The encyclopedia all by itself would be worth the price of admission. Dave J
We're glad to have you as a member, David! Thanks for your review.
As a member for over 15 years, I find their reviews fully educational as well as their weekly missives. Though I wish that they tested more products or categories, obviously they would need a bigger budget to do so. Though they often respond to my emails, sometimes I have to send second requests for responses
Overall I find them to be a gift to consumers and appreciate all that they do to keep us healthy and aware of deficiencies in products and in testing
Thank you for that nice review, Steven. We're glad that you appreciate our work.
I have been a member of ConsumerLab for several years and find it has saved me hours of research on supplements, health issues and food products. I really appreciate that the pros and cons of the latest research on products is referenced and presented in a way that a non medical person can understand. The non-biased research is educational and has helped me make informed decisions about my health.
We're glad to have you as a member, Patricia! Thanks for your review.
Each time I need to order supplements, I do my primary research on ConsumerLabs before purchasing. In this fast-paced world, it is important to do research every time as often supplement companies change their formulas and/resources. Being a member here gives me the information I need before buying. Thank you!
Thank you, SB. We're glad that you are enjoying CL!
As I grow older, I find that I'm more interested in supplements. ConsumerLab has the most up-to-date information on so many drugs, vitamins, etc.! I consult their website and find the best information out there!
We're glad that you are enjoying your membership to ConsumerLab, Chris. Thanks for letting us know.
I have been a subscriber of Consumer Lab for years and although initially most of the products tested were not ones accessible to me, or those I used (I live in Canada), I found the information informative and useful all around.
Whether the information you provide is related to testing findings; recalls; or with relevant health benefits or to the contrary, I find this website invaluable.
I do wish, though, that some of the products I use would be tested...
Twice in four years I have tried subscribing to Consumer Lab. Twice I got screwed. I get two newsletters, and then I get none. It is NOT up to me to completely change settings on my computer to accommodate them. That is their job. I am big on newsletters. I subscribe to many of them, and this is the ONLY one that constantly stiffs me. They take the $47. Whatever-cents and send me nothing in return. I had given up on their reviews anyway. The same companies over and over pay them to review their products. Rarely any new suppliers. I am so done with them. Now I have to try to get my money back.
I've subscribed to Consumer Lab for many years and rely on them for unbiased information about supplements PLUS all the great content on their site. Loved the masks (Covid) they recommended. I recommend them to my friends an family especially now with all the disinformation online. The lack of ads makes them so much more trustworthy.
Thanks for the great service!
Thank you for that nice feedback!
I have been a member for many years as someone who uses supplements they provide vital information. It is very nice that they provide in depth information on hundrends of supplements and a real bonus to have the independent research. Thank you ConsumerLab.com
Thank you very much for sharing that, Janet. We are very glad that you appreciate the work we are doing. We appreciate your support.
Consumer Lab site is easy to use, providing immediate access for members to get answers to questions.
One particular feature I find so so so useful is this. When the newsletter comes, and I click on the item I am interested in, the website takes me to the heart of the answer that was highlighted in the newsletter. Although I usually go back and skim through the rest of the researched article, I have already had access to the answer I was looking for.
This organization provides an enormous benefit to its members.
Thank you!
Thank you for doing all this very useful research. As a health food and supplement consumer, I rely on your opinion when I shop. I often buy the products that you recommend and have confidence in your research.
We're glad that you enjoy ConsumerLab.com. Thank you for posting your comments.
CL gives detailed information about a product and how it works and what it does. Then it rates a limited number of providers. I would like to see more reviews of products at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.
Thanks Alice. We do frequently test products from Whole Foods (365 brand supplements and some foods) and Trader Joe's (mostly their foods, such as dark chocolates and other health-related foods), but we'll keep your request in mind.
Answer: Hi Denise, We have actually covered this topic on our website https://www.consumerlab.com/answers/does-prevagen-really-improve-memory/prevagen-memory/.
Answer: Hi - We don't charge every month; just a single charge for a 1-year or 2-year subscription as noted on the page where you joined. We show the calculated cost per month for reference, so you can see that the 2-year subscription is less expensive. If you would like to cancel, please email subscription@consumerlab.com with your name and email and we will process your request (typically within 1-2 business days).
Answer: Hi Frank - I believe you are referring to the review of ConsumerLab from 2004 Journal of the Medical Library Association. Our content and website have continued to expanded annually and membership has increased over those 16 years. The current 1-year membership is $47.40, or $78 for 2-years (an 18% savings off the 1-year rate).
Answer: Hi Bob - As a subscriber, you are entitled to print out a copy of the report (or any pages thereof) for your personal use. However, we don't permit copying or distributing our content, which is proprietary.
Answer: Not yet, but we may next year. We have written about PQQ: https://www.consumerlab.com/answers/is-pqq-similar-to-coq10/what_is_PQQ/
Answer: Hi Theresa - As noted on our site, we permit subscribers to print a copy of our reports for their personal use, but we do not permit not copying or downloads. If you were somehow able to download content from our site, it is quite possible that it would only work while your membership was current.
Answer: There is no single best supplement or brand. It's best to focus on the type of supplement you are looking for, e.g., multivitamin, fish oil, probiotic, herbal) and read our Product Review for that specific category and see which product is our Top Pick for that category. Here is a list of our current reports: https://www.consumerlab.com/results/
Answer: Yes, we recently published a new report on turmeric and curcumin supplements as well as turmeric spice (ground root powders) at https://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/turmeric-curcumin-supplements-spice-review/turmeric/
Answer: Hi Barbara - You can give a gift membership to ConsumerLab.com from this page: https://www.consumerlab.com/giftcerts/. We have a link to this at the bottom of every page, but the font is a bit small. Hope that helps.
Thank you Susan for your kind words about ConsumerLab. We appreciate your support as a member. We do test many New Chapter products https://www.consumerlab.com/new-chapter/ but, unfortunately, are not able to test the same brands, along with new ones, each time we repeat the category for review.
