Was accused of hit and run- had to go to court twice to prove my innocence - case was dismissed- Carfax says my car was in a accident so it is devalued- i supplied letters of disposition which show the tickets were dismissed- Carfax says I need a updated police report, Irvington NJ Police will not give me one. They are only giving me the letters of disposition which has the court letterhead- Carfax says no good- the tickets were dismissed, no one was pressing charges against me, just the police and they said I was innocent- but now I have to get a lawyer again to prove my innocence but now it is for a Carfax- incredible they have this power to make the innocent pay $. The customer support was bad as well.

Terrible
June 20, 2020

BEWARE. Don't expect to talk to human or get any response from their "contact us" form you fill out online. I've submitted several requests for assistance both online and via voicemail. I've not heard anything back from them EVER. They of course processed my payment with in seconds. When I tried to sign up/in after submitting my payment info, I could not access a report. It kept telling me my email was associated to another account. I've never used carfax before. Tried the "forgot my password" which then prompted me to enter my email so they could send me my password, did so several times and never received an email. If I was able to obtain information about a car it may have been helpful but I'll never know. Bottom line is they'll take your payment and leave you hanging if something goes wrong. After several emails and voicemails requesting a refund, I finally had to file a dispute claim with my credit card to get my money back. To this day I still haven't heard from them.

I purchased a vehicle from Carvana on January 29,2017 with a clean Carfax report. In December 2019 I decided to trade in the car and purchased a Carfax report. I was shocked to see that Carfax had added a "Damage Report" dated 9/27/2016 or 4 months before I purchased the car from Carvana. In other words Carvana had sold me a damaged car. I contacted Carvana and sent them the copy of the Carfax report with the 9/27/2016 "Damage Report". Their response was to offer me an amount $3000. 00 less than the KBB average trade in value for the car without this late inserted Carfax "Damage Report". More about the Carfax late inserted "Damage Report". It was incomplete, only included a diagram with damage outlined 3/4 of the way around the car and a remark highlighted "NOT ALL DAMAGE IS CAUSED BY AN ACCIDENT. GET THE CAR INSPECTED BEFORE YOU BUY. Now that would have been nice to do but I bought the car 4 months earlier when there was no such "Damage Report" inclusion in the Carfax report. Carfax is a worthless service entity. And if your buying a used car get a signed agreement with the seller that a Carfax report does not provide all damage that the car might have.

My car was slightly damaged in a hit and run accident. The trunk lid was replaced making the car just like new. There was no accident report due to the low dollar amount for the repair. The police department, insurance company, and repair facility strongly denied any interaction with Carfax. Somehow the minor event ended up on the Carfax report and when I tried to sell the car, the offers made by online car buying companies were lowered by $1000 specifically because of the report of a repair having been made, without any specifics. After I repeatedly insisted, Carfax identified a "repair facility" as the source but the facility defended themselves and said that their reputation would have be severely damaged if it were known that they gave out such information. When I contacted Carfax for more proof of the source, they then denied that "repair facility" actually meant "repair facility" so I could not take any further action. This has happened to others. Essentially, anyone who gets a minor scratch on their vehicle could lose thousands of dollars in value to their vehicles without any real value being lost. Carfax acts irresponsibly and I hope that a class action is brought against them in order to stop the harm they are causing to innocent people.

I will be contacting my attorney so if anybody wants to send me their info to *******@gmail.com so we can file a law suite please do so with all info. I have owned my Porsche 911 since 2016. Carfax is reporting a "frame damage". NO ACCIDENTS. I spoke with my insurance who has no knowledge of any damage, i spoke with police in California who has no info on any damage finally i went to Porsche in Newport Beach California to inspect my vehicle. Service and sale manager looked at my car, top and bottom on a lift in service department and they noted NO DAMAGE. Carfax is ignoring my emails since February of 2019. To trade in my vehicle i would be losing roughly $30,000 and i will be seeking damages worth of $30,000. - already filed a complaint in BBB. If anybody has any open case, suggestions or suite against carfax please let me know! This has to END!

Wrong Facts by Carfax
April 17, 2019

I owned a car that was almost totaled in a curbside hit and run. The front driver's side axle and tire were literally folded under the driver's door.
This is not on the Carfax.

Later, the timing belt snapped and I sold it that way.
The sale is on the Carfax report, but not the timing belt replacement.

The Carfax says I took the car to the dealership for regular maintenance. I did not. I went to the fast oil change places and usually way after it was time.

The positive battery cable went bad. Instead of going to the dealer and spending $300 or more for a new cable plus labor, a local mechanic made a custom cable that was still working well when I sold it. I also replaced the camshaft position sensor myself. I ordered the part off Ebay. The Carfax report says this was done by the dealership.

My having new tires put on the car and having it smogged are the only true statements on the Carfax report.

Who reports to Carfax? Can anyone add information to a car's report? When I sold the car, I told the buyer all the above.

Buyer beware, Carfax information may be fabricated.

CARFAX reported that there was structural damage done to my vehicle from an accident. This is completely false information as there was zero damage to the frame or unibody of my vehicle yet they still incorrectly reported this as an issue with my vehicle. I did not know until last week when it was pointed out to me by someone interested in my car. I have been trying to sell this vehicle for over a month unaware that CARFAX had done this and consequently I have lowered the price of my vehicle by $3k because I was getting very little responses which I blame on CARFAX incorrectly listing damages to my vehicle. I will lose $3k from selling my vehicle which is how much below the value Edmonds and Kelly Blue Books suggests the car is worth based on the features and condition of my vehicle. I have sent them several emails, called and tried to get help via chat and they have never responded. They report false information and when the I repeatedly tried to contact them to get that information corrected with documentation including a letter from the repair facility, a complete report of the work done that does not show any frame or unibody damages, photos of the damage to my vehicle and a police report the still will not respond. If you have this happen to you take them to small claims court and you will win if you can provide the proper documentation. It is a fairly simple process to file your complaint with your local county court and very inexpensive as well.

CARFAX IS A SCAM! I recently purchased a truck and ran a Carfax report. Carfax reported ZERO COLLISIONS. Had the truth been reported, this vehicle would have not been a consideration. Upon receiving my title, I contacted the original owner and was told he had hit a deer with the front end and had been rear ended another time. Neither Carfax nor the seller disclosed this information.

When I contacted Carfax, I was told there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the page stating they are not liable for their reporting which means their reports are worthless.

I am currently trying to file a claim with the BBB but am told because of their disclaimer, what they are doing is not against the law.

CARFAX HOLDS NO LIABILITY FOR THE INFORMATION THEY REPORT SO IT IS YOU, THE CONSUMER, WHO PAYS FOR A WORTHLESS REPORT.

Businesses here in our area boast Carfax reports. Now I know the truth and others should know also. This company should be forced out of business.

Disgusted

Well worth paying the money for a report on a car or getting a free report by a dealer as CarFax.com provides all the accident details if any of previous cars history!
