I have been using another rental site and tried bookrenter. My experience was good. Definitely will do business with them in the future. Free shipping is a plus. Books are also sometime cheaper than other site. Recommendable.
I had no problem receiving the book, and it was in nearly perfect condition. However, when I returned it, it got lost in their warehouse. They blamed me for the fact that they couldn't find my book that I mailed them three weeks before it was due, and they sent me lots of emails threatening to charge me for a book I had already returned. Finally, after two and a half months and four phone calls with them, I got an e-mail that they found my book in a warehouse. Much of this stress could have been avoided, would not recommend using again.
This is the worst book renting website i have ever encountered! I have never received my books on time and they are always sent to the wrong address! They also had no recollection that I still had a book for an entire semester and had I not contacted them they never would have received the textbook back. When I emailed them about not having a return slip they said they couldn't find any active books on my account after the second email I sent them. Next when they finally got my info it took them five days to respond to me email. They told me they would send out no late fees as this was my fault however they still charged me and I had to send an angry email to receive the money I was charged back. Overall it took almost 20 days to return the book because the customer service would answer every 4-5 days at a time. I'm highly dissatisfied and will NEVER recommend this book service to anyone I know.
So I went from ordering a 3-months rental to receiving a useless, damaged book, to bookrenter promising to expedite the shipping of a replacement, to not receiving that replacement. I contacted them to find out the problem, they said that book was no longer in stock. So I was like, why didn't you tell me? I mean I could've used that time to find the book elsewhere. I then told them I would just work around the damaged one since there isn't a replacement and they flat out said no. They said that their system will not let them change the out of stock replacement order, so I will have to return the damaged book back within 30 days or I will get charged full price for the book. I was like WTF? So they would rather lose the business? Well that's fine by me, I will never order from them again. (Especially since this was the second time I ordered a rental book that came damaged and useless.)
Not a good experience with book renter, when they ship books to me, it was damage, and in the end I have to pay a huge book damage fee to buy out the book, however, after they charge me a shipping fee for the damage book, the book never show up.
I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN. I thought the process was really great until I received an email informing me they were going to charge me $90 for damage to my rental. WHY WOULD I RETURN THE BOOK IF IT WAS DAMAGED!?!? I would've just kept it if something was wrong and paid the fee to keep it not turn it in and get charged for a damage and be out the book and money. Absolutely ridiculous. If it is damaged and they plan to charge you, they need to provide proof of the said damage.
I was very disappointed with my experience with Bookrenter.com. I feel that they were very dishonest with me when it came to the price of a book I rented. My wife and I rented a book for $86 for her schooling (honestly, not a bad price). The rental was then extended three times, which ended up costing $93 (for the extensions themselves). We then wanted to buy the book. Their policy says that when your rental extensions meet or exceed the buyout price, then you get to keep the book. Because the book is only $180 used on amazon, we thought it wouldn't take much to purchase it since we had paid 170 already. They only gave me the option to buy it out at a price of $260! NEW on Amazon costs 220, and they want to charge me 260 for a USED textbook? Not to mention, that number is higher than what it was when we initially rented the book. A text book should go DOWN in value as time goes on. Definitely not up. The only option we had was to return the book, and lose the $93, or pay another $80 for the buyout, after we've already paid the $170 total. We were taken advantage of, and are never renting from this company again.
I had been using this website for the past couple semesters now, without issue. My most recent order was missing a book, and had a duplicate book in the package. When I called Customer Service, the representative had no idea what to do and had to keep putting me on hold to ask a supervisor. Finally, after an hour and a half on the phone, I was told me missing book was in transit, and I was told to send the duplicate book back. 2 weeks later, and my missing book still hasnt arrived. I called Customer Service again and the representative, Lousie C., was very rude and was not clear when explaining the situation to me. After an hour on the phone with him, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and he told me that a supervisor would not talk to me because he was busy, which I knew was a lie. I asked for my missing book to be sent out and a partial refund, since I wouldn't have my book for my full rental time. He gave me a full refund instead and would not send my missing book out. I AM NEVER BUYING FOR THIS GHETTO WEBSITE AGAIN!
