At first I was skeptical about purchasing a bike online without seeing it in person. I did my homework by checking reviews and comparing prices. I discovered that the people who have given bikes direct poor reviews are most likely those who are (A) People who haven't actually purchased anything from them because they are "Brand Name" shoppers, or (B) People who have purchased a bike and didn't realize they would have to put a small amount of effort into putting it together, or (C) The kind of individual who you can't satisfy no matter what. Well, after gathering my facts and carefully weighing my decision I decided to buy a "Gravity FSX 1.0."
Now I can give you a complete review based on my personal experience.
I decided to buy the bike although I found many mixed reviews about Bikes Direct. I mostly ride on paved trails and occasionally on dirt trails, so I didn't need a competition spec bike. I wanted a better bike than what could be found at Wal-Mart, Target, etc., but I didn't want to drop $600 either. I found an entry level mountain bike on Bikes Direct that was comparable to a bike I saw at Sports Authority. The bike on Bikes Direct $329, no tax, and included shipping. The bike at Sports Authority was $550, plus 6% sales tax.
The thing that tipped the scales when making my final decision was the reviews I saw here on Site Jabber. Bikes Direct had a higher rating than many popular retail stores. Bikes Direct also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so I figured the only thing I had to lose was the postage if I decided to send it back. I called their credit card hotline and placed my order. The next evening I had my receipt emailed to me along with a UPS tracking number and 4 days later I had my bike. I am thrilled with my purchase and the Bikes Direct website accurately described the bike I ordered including the photos. The only thing I had to do was minor assembly, adjust the brakes, and shifters. Initially I was scared about ordering, anxious once I ordered, and thrilled once I received the bike. The whole process was easy and smooth. I wrote this review for people who are worried like I was about ordering from Bikes Direct. I do not work for them in any way and unfortunately I wasn't paid to write this.
Good bikes at a very reasonably rates i like the way they treat their customers. Good job keep up the good work.
I tried to visit http://bikesdirect.com but their website is down. Maybe their services are good but I m giving 3 star ratings due to inconvenience.
Bought bike from bikesdirect.com frame was defective we agree on a $200 credit on a new more expensive bike. Ordered and paid in full in March. They never shipped the bike. B. D. Made made up stores about why it did not shipped but stated it would ship in April(It was a web page error.) More stories, then May (It is covid-19 fault), then June (it is the shipping company fault.), then July (it is the ports fault), then August ( we have the bike but it is Paypals fault) They show the bike for sale on their website as ships now but they refuse to ship me the bike. Called and called and then called so more, they never answer their phone (any of the numbers!) Email after email, they claim they sent a partial refund. (I am still waiting for it.) I told them I wanted my bike and the CEO stated he was going to have it sent to me after right away. (send a text to my employee right now). Days later, employee, I need to make a new invoice. I never received an new invoice. They claim that it is Paypals fault. (Paypal was supposed to end it and if they didn't there is nothing they can do.) I stated I would be happy to just give them my credit card info again or just order the bike as listed on their website. They refused. So in the end. I paid for two bike. I now have zero bikes to ride. All the other bikes I could have bought month ago are now sold out. I wish I never ordered anything for bikesdirect.com
If you are even thinking of order a bike from them, try calling them first! See how that works out for you.
Also, ask your self this. If you order a bike from them you will see a charge from paypal not bikesdirect.com Why would a bike company like Bikesdirect.com use and pay paypal.
I know it is super hard to find any type of bike right now, but I would not recommend dealing with this company!
The quality of the product is the best. Service is very good. Delivery system is good. I really like this site.
Thanks to your site I ordered a bicycle for my younger brother. He was so happy and that's the main point.
- optimized selection of components to deliver a solid cost effective bike.
- responsive helpful staff helped me before i purchased and afterwards.
Everyone I dealt with was so helpful and friendly, besides knowing their stuff, which made it go smoothly, can't wait til the next time.
Great bike, my younger brother was so happy when he had got his Gravity Nugget 20. I like it as well.
Great support. Easy purchase and quick delivery. I'm still excited after my last order. Thanks, guys. You are doing your job very well.
I purchased a Gravity Monster Fat Bike in June 2019. Finally able to write about it now with 100+ miles rode. LOVE IT!... and Sooooooooo Happy that I didnt have to spend $1500 to get into a quality Fat Bike! I am 6ft. 3 #225lbs and the 20inch fits great!
Did have an OOB problem with a poorly machined Stem that would not tighten down. BUT... this just gave the support team at Bikesdirect the opportunity to SHINE! Larry took great care of me by exceeding my expectations! He swapped me some useable bikewear instead of a new stem as I was gonna be changing the bars and stem anyway... and that is my tip here!... Spend the $500, and plan to customize/upgrade various features to fit YOU!
I wanted a more upright body position so I spent like $50 on new stem, grips and bars with extender. I also took advice of previous posters and spent $15 on upgrade of the pedals that match my green color perfectly! Everything is working and riding great. I wont be doing anything serious on hills, but mainly gravel trails in local forests. I may upgrade to hyd. Brakes in the future, but standard mech brakes work ok for me now.
I DO RECOMMEND that you find a good bike mechanic to do assembly! Yes, a layperson can slap it together, but, a trained mechanic will be able to review all requirements for lube, alignments, fit, etc... and get your new ride to 100%... WORTH the extra $ that you saved!
I am a first time bike owner and was excited to own my first bike but I had such a BAD experience with this company that I wanted to write this to warn everyone about their practices. Model: Dawes Eclipse City, purchased on April 2nd.
Long story ahead: TLDR;
(1) Do not recommend if you are not a professional bike assembler. IT is not safe for you to assemble it yourself.
(2) Poor quality - multiple things broken
(3) Website advertises how easy and cheap it is to get it ready, NOT true. It has costs me probably an additional $100 and (still counting) 10 hours+ to assemble and de-assemble it to return this. Unfortunately they want EVERYTHING in original packing and stored the same way. I need to pay for shipping & who knows how much they'll refund me. At this point, I'm praying I can get my original amount back given all the hassle.
List of Issues:
1. The website stated my bike was for 5'8-5'11. Me being 5'11 I chose this size to be safe, but the post was way too high that I could not see anyone shorter than my height even getting on the bike! I had to go all the way to Home Depot buy a hacksaw to cut it shorter for myself. Given that I already spent 6 hours on the bike, I was tired and just wanted the company to reimburse me for this. It took 4-5 back and forths just to get them to reimburse $10 for me to get the hacksaw.
2. Upon getting on the bike, my chain slipped and it was so dangerous! I almost fell off the bike on the road. I asked a friend about this and they said none of the pre-assembled parts were ready and this is unacceptable from a safety standpoint.
3. The spoke guard broke after 2nd time of riding it. I only noticed since I heard a clacking noise as I was riding it. There is no way it would break unless there was something wrong with the bike given that it is brand new. At this point, I just want to return it and get a refund.
I am DONE dealing with the hassle. I will update this review based on what bikesdirect says. I can only deal with them via email since they have no phone number for customer support.
I purchased a Motobecane Fantom FS 29r XO equipped a year and half ago $2,200.
The KMC chain hollow pin broke repeatedly from the start. The shifter cables, both had to be replaced; They kinked inside and steel stranded cable unraveled inside the actual finger shifters and the tubing, within 6-8 months of ownership. The handlebar was small 550 mm. The bike purchase maybe saved you $400 over a local bike store. The bike isn't entirely XO equipped, just the shifters and derailers. The crank arm is FSA, nothing special. They ignored me when I asked for a free Jersey of Motobecane to wear at races... They need representation but they said it was a liability issue: 0 and they ignored when when I told them their cables were of poor quality and I should get reimbursed. I had to fix this myself multiple times because the cable were just stretching and I didn't know why so the shifting was bad until I replace. A
Just be ready to replace a couple parts and tighten EVERYTHING because most things are pretty loosely put together. The finish is primer grey so they are saving from having fancy paint. I sprayed over the ugly decal with matte black since it's been painted over with a clear coat and I redesigned a decal and put Motobecane back on reversing the colors. Hope this helps. Okay deal, okay bike. Not a steal of a deal, w/ no dealer support.
Purchased Mercier New Galaxy Tour. Not a bad bike for the money, BUT...
-Even though the Web site claims NO SALES TAX COLLECTED 48 STATES throughout their Web site and product page, I was charged 6% sales tax. This wasn't obvious until I completed the purchase on PayPal and I was notified my credit card was being charged $21 more than I expected!
I went bak to BD Web site and in very small print it states NO sales tax collected 48 states* -- if you click on that link you are told sales tax collected fo FL and TX sales. VERY misleading and borderline deceitful since everywhere else they proclaim No Sales Tax Collected!
-Bike arrived on date promised. Spoke bent, rimes scraped, spokes/rims, derailleur and brakes all needed adjustment. Fortunately, a bike friend is pretty versed in this and helped out.
I estimate assembly and what adjustments were needed would cost at least $100 at a bike shop. And I still had a bent spoke!
I wish I had looked at a local bike shop first. I won't make the same mistake again.
Answer: I would recommend that you think about a hybrid bike first, as the tires are larger & the 26 inch wheels are a bit stronger. Also, you will be more comfortable riding on an upright position. If you like it, use it to loose weight while saving for a decent road bike.
Answer: Hi - the bike depends upon the type of riding you want to do and what you want out of riding. Do you want comfort? Durability? Speed? More upright riding position? Definitely want to look at bikes with larger tires as they would be more comfortable. The CycleCross type bikes are fast but have a bit larger tires for more durability and comfort than a skinny tire road bike. Check out the OmniStrada which have knobbier and larger tires than the regular cross bikes. They also have top tech tubeless compatible rims which you can easily convert with sealant and kit to being virtually flat free :) Check them out: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htm
Answer: No. The bike should come ready to ride.
Answer: I ordered after hours on Wednesday night, recived confirmation of payment via PayPal instantly. Email receipt received Friday morning.
