I HAVE BOUGHT TWO bikes from Bikes Direct and LOVE THEM BOTH! I will Give LARRY & Bikes Direct 10 stars out of 5. TEN STARS OUT OF FIVE! THE BEST POSSIBLE!
The bicycles arrived in PERFECT condition, due to meticulous care in packing. Minor assemblies needed proved very do-able. If I had a brief question it got answered very professionally and provided enormous HELP by Larry of the B. D. staff.
Larry has added enormous value to both of my BIKES DIRECT PURCHASES with his prompt, courteous answers to any questions and provided highly informative answers that solved any issues ASAP. Outstanding!
Due to Larry's diligence in enhancing the buyer experience, his kindness and knowledge, I not only enjoyed my two BIKESDIRECT BIKES almost every day of the year, but the bikes still look like brand new!
YOUR VERY GRATEFUL B. D. customer

I ordered a Motobecane Gran Turismo from bikesdirect.com and I'm more than pleased with their service and what I got for my money. The headset was over-tightened out of the box, but I adjusted it and it's no worse for the wear. The XT rear derailleur & Dura Ace bar end shifters are superb. The frame seems to be very high quality. I've ridden it over some very rough cobblestones and the frame took the beating, no problem. The wheels are heavy, but strong. They were very true out of the box and held true under the cobblestone pounding. Delivery took six days. The staff responded within a day to each of two queries I e-mailed them. This is my third steel frame bike. Unless I'm careless around thieves again, I don't expect to ever need another bike. You're required to take delivery in person. No drop-offs.
I bought a Motobecane hybrid; as I really could not afford the Trek I had been shown in a bike shop. I paid $399 and with free shipping & no tax.
I was surprised when it arrived by 2 things
1 - it only took me 25 minutes to set it up
2 - it was nicer in everyway than the Trek I had tested 3 times
Counting not paying almost $100 in sales tax; I save over $500
I feel really lucky to have found bikesdirect
I received my Motobecane bike a few weeks ago. I ordered a Titanium Century with electronic shifting. I was concerned about such a significant purchase sight unseen but based on a previous bike purchase from them a few years ago, I knew the company was trustworthy. The bike arrived within a week and was assembled within 30 minutes of unpackaging. Everything was perfect except for a hydraulic brake line. I contacted the company and they took care of the problem (it did take a few emails and pictures but was acceptable). I have been riding the bike without issue for over a month. I will do business with them again.
I bought the Motobecane Fathom HT Comp and it's awesome. I had no problem with the ordering process, and the ship time was very reasonable. The assembly out of the box is not complicated if you have any experience with tools. Even if taken to a bike shop still a great deal. I did see the components on it are models that are 2 years old, but they are new and for the price I'm not going to complain. I'm looking to buy a road bike and I will definitely be getting it from bikes direct.
1.5 years later... I was so happy with the mountain bike, I purchased the Le Champion CF road bike. I have over 3000 miles on it and it has been a truly amazing bike. Full Ultegra groupset which alone was worth the price of the bike. Great wheels(the mavic tires suck, you'll need to replace them right away) and overall a fantastic deal. The bike weighs right around 20 pounds and can hang with the $6000 bikes. I'll definitely be buying my next bike from bikes direct.
OMG... a full carbon frame bike that weights 18 lbs for a little over $1K?!?! Is this for real? All Shimano Ultegra parts? The ritchey wheels alone retail for about $300. This website seems almost too good to be true, but if you actually get the bike they say you do, then it is a killer deal.
I put almost 23,000 miles on my last fixie road bike from Bikesdirect, a 2008 Dawes SST. It came to an end a couple weeks ago when it was hit by a car and totaled. In all those miles I replaced the chain, chainring, cog, bar tape, and the rear wheel once at about 15,000 miles. So I bought a new fixie from Bikesdirect, a 2015 Mercier Kilo.
Ordered a motobecane 350ds had issue with left crank arm the factory threaded the arm wrong. I spoke with Larry and he immediately responded and had a new crank arm shipped out to me. I will order from bikes direct from now on. Great company and great people that have knowledge on bikes and parts
I bought a Fantom 29er at the beginning of last summer. I went for 3 rides, and my derailer hanger broke. I ordered another one, fixed it, and it broke again after 3 more rides. Same thing again. I have never ever had a hanger break, and all of the sudden I broke 3 on one bike in 9 rides. Don't buy one of these unless you want to do a hanger repleacement or hike your bike back mid-ride every third ride.
Hi- sorry for the frustration. We would like to help you. There is more to this issue - If there was a defect, the hanger would have broken on the first ride but you are saying it made it through 3 rides each time so something else is causing it to break. These hangers are engineered to sacrifice themselves to save the frame and virtually all modern MTB have these exact same hangers which are easily replaced in minutes. Many riders regardless of bike brand carry spares in case this happens in the unpredictable and rough riding that all mountain bikes go through on the trails. We have have sold tens of thousands of bikes in over 15 years and never heard of anyone having this much trouble. Sounds like we need more details on how this is happening. Please contact our service department bd4servicecenter@aol.com and they will be happy to help you trouble-shoot this issue. Best regards- Joe
3 weeks ago I bought this bike. All I can say for now that it has been a good bike and have rode many times. I read some of the other reviews stating how difficult it was to put the bike together, don't believe it. I had the bike in rideable condition in 30 minutes or so. The only change that I made to this bike was to add the following parts.
1 Shimano pedals because I ride most of the time with my feet in the cleated to the pedals.
2 Water bottle rack
3 Battery operated lighting system.
I will be adding a rack to the back sometime in the future.
The things that I liked the most about this bike are the Disc brakes and the red wheels. It shift well right out of the box. Also the finish on this bike was very good. I didn't notice any blemishes on the finish.
I have owned many different types of bikes, road, mountain. I can honestly say that this bike may not be in the same quality as a custom made bike but on the whole this bike is very good and a good bargain.
Have a problem with my order, the chainring came damaged in shipping. Their initial response was asking me to file it on my own. Didn't get a response when I asked them to send replacement chainring. I was then asked to do a review here where I left them a 1star review. When they saw the 1 star review they responded and sent a replacement chainring and some tools to help me get the damaged chainring fixed.
Updating the review to five stars since the problem is solved.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any mis-understandings. Please be sure that we will take care of you. Please email customercare@bikesdirect.com with your contact info and order ID / info and we can get you a new chain ring or whatever it takes to get you happy and riding:)
Best regards,
Joe

For the price of a motobecane on BD, you cant do better anywhere else.
You have to put it togethee but it's not near as bad as it sounds. Cant comment on CS since I didnt need them once! Hope i never do!
Hello Larry,
I just wanted to say that I am extremely pleased with the level of outstanding customer service you have provided me!
As you may recall, I had inquired about the possibility of purchasing two new tires for my Gravity Fat Bike. You informed me that Bikesdirect does not routinely keep such large items in stock. However, you had taken the time to check and discovered that your facility did indeed have the two tires that I wanted.
I received the box a few weeks ago, but did not open it until this afternoon. At the bike shop I had gone to in regards to replacing and installing the new tires, they informed me that there were two items of interest inside the box.
I assure you, I sincerely appreciate your extra effort in locating the two replacement tires. I was also pleasantly surprised that you had placed a tool kit and flask inside the box!
I just wanted to say, "thank you for your outstanding customer service!"
Best regards,
Daniel Lee
PS. I have already informed many friends and acquaintances about Bikesdirect products and service
I hesitate at first about buying a bike online, but when I saw the BikesDirect price, I thought it's worth a try and I didn't regret it. My Fuji Transonic arrived in good condition with minimal parts to be install. So far I've put 540 miles on it and used it last Sunday at the 2017 LA River ride. Definitely my next bike purchased will be at BIkesDirect.
I bought a motobecane Fantom team full xtr mountain bike last year. Love it, more than I could of imagined. Had small problem with clear coat on frame and they replaced frame no charge, I paid shipping only. Also, I emailed the service guys a couple bike questions and they answered them the same day. Will buy a Kestrel road bike from bikes direct soon. Bikes direct is a great company to buy a bike from with zero risk.
I have purchased two fatbikes from BikesDirect in the last year, and I cant say enough good things about either the bikes or the company.
The bikes are a great value, and are high quality. The service from the company has been good, I have communicated with their staff on a number of occasions and they are always able to help and in a timely manner.
I would not hesitate to purchase from this company again. I plan to purchase a fatbike for my wife from BikesDirect in the next year.
I bought a Dawes city eclipse from bikes direct about a year ago and it is the best bicycle I ever had. It is a hybrid comfort bike and has all the best components on it worth well over the 250.00 I bought it for.
I have compared bikes in the stores and they don't come close and cost twice as much.
Not only was the bike a great deal but there customer service is top notch and so are the parts.
I delt with Larry in customer sevice and he was very knowledgeable, polite, and got me my parts FAST! The parts I recieved were a terrific value for the money and top quality. I can not say enough good things about the quality and value of bikes direct and Larry at customer service.
This is the only bike I ever owned were when I come out of a store or somewhere occasionally someone will be looking at my bike and ask me were I got it.
I've bought 5 bikes through these people and have had great luck. On the 5th bike, however, there were brake pad parts missing (just a nut and spacers). No big deal but a frustration since I wanted the bike put together for my niece. So I e-mailed Bikes Direct, told them of my sorrows (yeah, I'm a bit dramatic!) and prepared to be ignored. NOT SO! With uncanny speed, a fellow named Larry e-mailed me back and had the parts in the mail WITHIN MINUTES. Here's the thing: anyone can send you a bike for a good price. When that price is coupled with extraordinary customer service? Wow---NOW I KNOW WHY I LOVE BIKES DIRECT!
I've had my Sniper full suspension fat bike for about 2 months & it still continues to amaze! The Rock Shox suspension is plush & balanced, the Guide brakes are fantastic while the X7-X9 shifters/ derrailures tie everything together. A great bike for the price! There is nothing on the market that can compare for anywhere near the price.
I typically do not write reviews, but I have been biking for over 40 years, and wanted to give some kudos to Bikes Direct.
I had purchased a bike from them 15 years back. Was unsure of buying a bike over the internet, but figured I would give it a shot. (Lived in NYC and back in the day, if you got 2 years out of a bike before it was stolen, you did well.)
I found that the bike was as good as any I purchased at a name brand store (back then, trek was my "go to".) The important thing I learned is that the components were typically a year or so from "cutting edge" but that was perfect for me as a grinder/commuter bike to work. (and made the bike actually affordable). I don't road race, I would do the five-borough bike tour, commute to work every day, and some other things, so having the latest components is generally a joke and 99.5 percent of bikers don't need them.
To wrap this up, I had to buy another bike since i moved out to a suburban area and commutes will be much longer. I felt comfortable ordering from bikes direct, but then again, it had been 15 years, lol. Long story short, the bike was a great deal (lots for the money) the bike was delivered quickly and was a snap to put together.
Very happy I have the bike and very happy bike direct is still as good as it was 15 years ago.
Thanks
Answer: I would recommend that you think about a hybrid bike first, as the tires are larger & the 26 inch wheels are a bit stronger. Also, you will be more comfortable riding on an upright position. If you like it, use it to loose weight while saving for a decent road bike.
Answer: Hi - the bike depends upon the type of riding you want to do and what you want out of riding. Do you want comfort? Durability? Speed? More upright riding position? Definitely want to look at bikes with larger tires as they would be more comfortable. The CycleCross type bikes are fast but have a bit larger tires for more durability and comfort than a skinny tire road bike. Check out the OmniStrada which have knobbier and larger tires than the regular cross bikes. They also have top tech tubeless compatible rims which you can easily convert with sealant and kit to being virtually flat free :) Check them out: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htm
Answer: No. The bike should come ready to ride.
Answer: I ordered after hours on Wednesday night, recived confirmation of payment via PayPal instantly. Email receipt received Friday morning.
BikesDirect has a rating of 3.2 stars from 566 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with BikesDirect most frequently mention customer service, perfect condition and next day. BikesDirect ranks 4th among Bicycle sites.
Thanks for your feedback. We hear this very often that our bicycles save customers hundreds of dollars off comparable bikes from Trek, Giant, Specialized and other brands. If you have any questions about your bike please email bd4servicecenter@aol.com they will be happy to assist you:)
Happy Riding,
Joe
