Avvo gives my law firm a rating of 67%. This is not based on feedback from one single client that I have represented. It is based on how much time I am required to spend finishing a profile. I suspect it is also based on whether I want to spend money on one of their marketing schemes. They actually tried to sell me on basically paying to get my rating up!
Avvo is a paid service for attorneys. I posted a truthful review about a terrible attorney that has a great rating on their site. The review had no inappropriate or inaccurate statements I just gave an account of my experience after retaining this attorney. I am displease with this website retaining the truth about their client that advertise on their website.
I have posted several reviews on lawyers and a few not so good reviews. Lately AVVO won't let me post any 1 star reviews on lawyers. AVVO is biased.
All the positive reviews I am seeing seemed to be generated by friends of a lawyer that has multiple negative reviews.
There is no way for AVVO to filter fake positive reviews but they filter valid 1 star reviews! WTH?
The ratings on this website are not accurate. Attorneys are allowed to get rid of all their negative reviews, which is deceiving to the public. For example, attorney Steven B. Chroman from Valencia, CA seems to be a reputable attorney based on avvo's rating. When you read his reviews, you will see mentions of 1 star reviews that he has received. But, you don't actually see the 1 star reviews mentioned because he has gotten them all removed. He only keeps the perfect ratings which is not fair to the public.
They protect useless lawyers! They just say to straighten out friction with the lawyer i review instead of reaching out to the lawyer themselves to justify their incompetence and infringe on our 1 amendment. They only tolerate lying positive reviews!
I picked attorney Margaret Allen from Rockford Michigan for GAL work because she got a very good rating on AVVO. Little did I know that she never returned phone calls. Did not represent my children. Instead she represented my exhusband. And was basically dishonest with her assessment. Will never trust another AVVO rating ever again. My children have paid for this ever since.
If an atty doesn't like your question, avvo let's him attack you verbally. When he doesn't like your comment to his answer, it's removed. 3 times I actually had my question removed. Then he calls his buddy to attack me too. Avvo doesn't care, they just kept removing my question and responses while leaving their lawyers up. Worthless place with worthless lawyers. Oh, and my reviews of those 2 lawyers? Never posted.
Attorneys just get to be rude and arrogant.
But No help. Even if an attorney actually answers, the answes aren't good legal advice. Reviews seem false based on actual dealings with attorneys of this site.
I created a login just to ask one simple question a few months ago. I got 1 worthless answer, but since that time I have been spammed continuously. Immediately the emails started - "Top tips to hiring an attorney"... etc. I have clicked "Unsubscribe" for months, to no avail. It's hilarious... the response: "Sorry, we were unable to process your request. Please contact Avvo Customer Care at *******@avvo.com". When you email them begging them to take you off their list... it bounces back as "undeliverable". So apparently I am spammed for life. There's no way to turn this $#*! off. You'd think a legal website would at least adhere to the law. Nope. For God's sake never use this website, you'll regret it.
AVVO is nothing short of a scam, used to give lawyers who pay them a higher rating by removing legitimate reviews that are less-than-stellar. My bankruptcy case had been assigned to a fresh-out-of-school lawyer - Jonathan Mas out of Milwaukee, who made many excuses as to why he wasn't returning my calls (Including not being able to figure out his voicemail!) He obviously had no clue what he was doing and we did not want this fraud representing us. So we dismissed him from our case and wrote a 1-star review based on my experience with him. The review was removed. Over and over again, no matter how detailed or vague I worded it! It was super-obvious that AVVO is protecting shoddy lawyers who pass them money under the table. Hopefully people get a clue and do not believe any of the ratings!
You can't spell garbage without a G. Gregory T. Osment came highly recommended to me via AVVO and a local paper. After paying the $75 dollar consultation ( which should be free) and explaining the whole situation as his office dogs nearly pissed on me, he, while ignoring me the whole time, turns and says " So what are your questions for me? "
My questions for you?! I'm here to defend charges I didn't commit!. Hired him on the spot stupidly, and later fired him for a misdemeanor malicious destruction charge. He did nothing but sit, despite the prosecutor having zero evidence. In bed with the judges for sure. Second attorney fought, and won in court. $#*! this guy
I was unaware that as a user for this site, NOT a lawyer, you cannot cancel your profile. I posted something I thought was between me and a lawyer and it was a bit of personal identifying info. I want to cancel, but even live chat is live, just email. I have 2 brain diseases and it is my fault for not being able to notice what I was doing at the time, but the site she allow visitors to remove thier questions and cancel thier profile, just like anywhere else in the web. I REALLY don't like this.
All attorneys listed on Avvo have '5-Star' reviews. This is because they will not allow any negative reviews. Believe me, I tried. Avvo will claim that the review 'does not meet community standards', regardless of how well written and factual it is, and they will either not post it, or quickly remove it. If you want better reviews on attorneys, try 'Yelp' or even 'Google reviews'. DO NOT TRUST Avvo!
I signed up to advertise in Florida and they ran my ads in Oregon. Apparently there is no oversight or quality control at AVVO.com to ensure that the ads lawyers pay for are running in the market they are seeking for advertising.
I had a positive experience with a lawyer... wrote a good review. It's gets approved almost immediately. Write a bad review for a lawyer who I felt obligated to warn my fellow citizens about... denied twice... second time for duplicate content? What
I have gone into AVVO several times trying to find a lawyer, but I have a difficult case. Once they find out how difficult and that I don't have much money, because of this fraud by Wells Fargo mortgage fraud... it's too much work and they ask me to email me the details and then I never hear from them again. They just want ones that are an easy buck. Ambulance chasers. I need a lawyer who's ready to help me fight to get my life back with me and see the real injustice of my situation. Not one on here followed through past the website. I can't remove my info at all from the site, I can't cancel anything. It's misguiding and I'm sure is owned and paid for by lawyers just like Angie's list scammed the public.
I was licensed to practice law over 20 years ago but never practiced law and was in good standing yet "retired" from the law as my state calls it. I found a profile on Avvo and they will not delete it even though I have never, nor will I ever practice law. Another similar site called Justia.com did remove my listing the same day I emailed them the request. Avvo is a scam in the highest degree and I suspect any 5 star rating here is from employees of Avvo. It's pathetic that people will resort to this to try and make money. Anyone considering using Avvo, you'd be better off just Googling attorneys.
Avvo won't allow one to leave a negative review even if it is completely truthful.
This brings me to a Pa. Attorney names Carla V. Risoldi. One just needs to do a name search to see who she really is. Even though she changed her picture on Avvo, it is still the same person. She wants to hide from her mug shot from when she was arrested for fraud and arson. This attorney should be stopped from practicing law. Somehow she continues. If Avvo allowed the truth, this attorney would not be on there.
I really don't have to say anything negative about Carla Risoldi. Carla V. Risoldi is her own worst enemy. Carla Risoldi hurts herself by her own actions and behavior. So if you are considering hiring her, just do a simple google search. Search Carla V. Risoldi. Don't let the picture fool you. It is the same person.
BEWARE: Attorney Katherine J. Graber will take your money and work with "good old boys club" in Waukesha county court. She is as crooked as they get. Claims to defend you but works with da's office to help convict you! They have no oath only a license to steal! Scammers!
I posted a question about changing the lease of a property from one landlord to another landlord. I did not indicate that I am having a hard time or that I am very unhappy with the existing lease that I have inherited from one landlord. As a matter of fact I was just asking if I could change the lease to my own.
Many of the lawyers think that I am in a bad or awful situation. Many of them said that's why I should retain an attorney. Someone said now I am stuck (but I am not!), now that I am in a miserable situation.
Some of them are saying I am pinching pennies and condescendingly said being a landlord for 10 years I should already know that I have to have a lawyer.
Being there expecting some good kind advice instead I get all these insults and reprimands. The whole thing had turned into a drama. So I quit.
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has a rating of 1.2 stars from 421 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Avvo most frequently mention law firm, state bar and community guidelines. Avvo ranks 74th among Legal Documents sites.
