Avvo is a bought and paid for listing. Though it offers free listings to lawyers, the lawyers who do not claim their listing are given a low rating. If you do claim a listing, you can answer questions without allowing for any solicitation of the client. The only way you have visibility is to pay.
Avvo will delete your negative reviews at the request of the lawyer. The site is not a trustworthy service to evaluate an attorney. It happened to my review after it was initially accepted. I was contacted by the lawyer. Do not trust Avvo ratings!
It seems that they have a service that attorneys can pay for that will prevent negative reviews. I know several that I would be suspicious of how they got 10 stars. I would shop around and stay away from the 10 stars - what BS
Ad says pay $39 and talk to a lawyer in minutes. I get a response back that says a lawyer will call you in the time frame chosen (there was no choice for a time frame) within one business day. What a freaking scam.
I posted an anonymous review of my attorney and avvo allowed the attorney to post a review of my listing and it was completely inaccurate plus if one posts anonymously how can an attorney post a review of an anonymous posting since they don't know who the author is? For this and other reasons I recommend you avoid avvo and any reviews on it.
I have attempted several times to rate attorney Ledford White of Fort Worth, Texas? This attorney has over $4,000,000. In judgements on him from clients who have sued him in courts for cheating and stealing their money. I have sent to you the case numbers and the courts where he was found guilty of these frauds and you will not show my reviews on your AVVO web site. I am a former client of his. Why are you protecting him. Thanks, Mike Parks *******@gmail.com
I wrote a review of an attorney that was factual, true, and not at all a personal attack. It was up for a few days, then they told me that it was disputed by the attorney.
A representative of Avvo said that my review was fine and that they would post it. It was up for about 4 days and then they sent an email saying that my review didn't follow their guidelines. I read the rules, and in no way did my review break any of their rules.
I don't know for certain, but it seems that either an attorney complaining about a review is grounds to remove it, or perhaps compensation was proffered to have it removed.
I attached a photo showing my review that I had to jump through hoops just to get it to stay on there for a few days.
Beware of unscrupulous attorneys. "... we will not be submitting payment for services...". The last word I received for a firm that refused to pay my final expert witness fees. The firm "MAINOR WIRTH, LLP; Las Vegas"
A warning to all experts!
I met Travis S. Groves, Attorney at Law when I needed court appointed counsel. I qualified for it but didn't expect to get someone like him. Down right honest and straight to the point. This man will give you 100% and expects the same from you... Representing you is not the issue, representing you correctly is. He will do just that. I felt like he cared about the outcome and that he felt like he wasn't wasting his time. He kept me from being bullied by opposing attorney and his client(my ex-wife)who at the time felt they could just hold me in contempt for any reason. He gave me great understanding of what I was facing and the consequences of what could happen and protected me from foul play. He is a stand up Lawyer and well respected in the community. His office staff is as professional as it gets. Thank you Mr. Travis S. Groves.
Rip off agency. Delete negative reviews about attorney. I hired an attorney due to avvo review which were perfect. Attorney stole my money and did not do anything. I wrote that specific review at Avvo and got an email from Avvo saying they removed my review because it was not approved. Then i investigate in other websites and this particular lawyer has horrendous reviews on other websites. Don't trust Avvo. Don't trust Lawyer Rosemary Dettling.
I tried to find an attorney through Avvo. The lawyer made an early morning appointment with me and then stood me up and never contacted me to apologize. I lost work time to make that appointment. I posted this objective review, never personally characterized the attorney, made it clear this was our initial meeting. The review was approved and posted and later removed for "not following guidelines." My conclusion is that consumer reviews are not an honest reflection of the lawyers' ratings. Just for good measure the attorney that stood me up for an 8:00 am meeting was Peter Lennington of St. Paul, MN.
Protects lawyers. Won't post bad reviews. I gave them state bar grievance and won't post. Screens my calls now. I call from a different number and then they answer
Agree with all below: the reviews of the lawyers are not legit, they delete what is not useful for them. Because of misguidance with false reviews i had paid for consultation with the most unprofessional, rude and least helpful lawyer ever - Lyon Jemison. But my review has never been posted - he still has 5 star rating, although the most recent rating is from 2013! And i know other people who were unhappy with him, but were not allowed to post the review on avvo.com about him. Don't waste your time with these scammers!
1) AVVO provides a forum for your business to be anonymously trashed, and AVVO capitalizes on this by charging you a fee to help you deal with this. AVVO does not verify reviews. Their policy is: "All reviews on Avvo.com are the responsibility of the reviewers, and under 47 USC 230, Avvo, Inc. cannot be held liable for making Avvo.com available to the reviewers." 2) Reviews are titled "Posed by a client" and are not verified. Who's to say that this is an authentic person? 3) Their dispute process is a ruse.
Avvo protects lawyers when they get bad reviews. The facts mean nothing to Avvo staff. It is a company run by lawyers and lawyers pay fees. Lawyers simply call in to get bad reviews deleted. It is a biased company that stomps all over customer's freedom of speech and constitutional rights. A class action complaint needs to be filed to shut this company down.
I will have to agree with the others, AVVO will not let you post a negative review and should not be trusted. After I posted a negative review of the attorney, 5 positive reviews were posted, all the same day within hours of each other. Such a scam...
I hired an attorney but he didn't do what he was supposed to do. I went online only to give him a review on Avvo so that other people would not wasted their money on this bad attorney. However, Avvo removed my review and they only let you post good review for the attorney on their website. I guess the attorneys paid them so that they will only let you post positive review for them. This is not a good platform for you to find an experiences and good attorney. STAY AWAY from this website!
This joke of a website, will only allow positive reviews of attorneys. Anything less than that. Regardless of wheather it's an honest, and true review or not.
They're not interested in being helpful to the public. Only kissing the rear end, of some of these sleazy, unethical lawyers.
Get off the web, you joke of a website.
Do not believe the reviews you read on Avvo. I hired attorney Jeff Jared for a family law case. He was extremely unprofessional and made mistakes and used bad judgement to land me in a worse outcome than if I went pro se.
He overbilled and overcharged me, all he and his legal assistant care about is taking your money. They don't care about your outcome. Avvo shows glowing reviews about Jeff Jared. Just months ago his reviews were 2 stars and honest client reviews about his terrible work. Now I only see 5 star reviews going back years ago, they are obviously fabricated. Avvo reviews are not to be trusted.
I filed a complaint with the Bar Assosiation against him. I hope to encourage others to do the same against fraudulent and dishonest attorneys. It's the only way to bring them down!
Dont trust avvo
Keep looking up attorneys and their avvo reviews as i become familiar with them and their accomplishments. Avvo looks worse with each attorney i "get to know" through legitimate experience. Want names?
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has a rating of 1.2 stars from 421 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Avvo most frequently mention law firm, state bar and community guidelines. Avvo ranks 74th among Legal Documents sites.
