This is insane. I've never used this service and have been charged every month since 2022. I tried to reach out to customer service and get my money refunded but because I must've accidentally clicked on a title, they refused to credit all of my money back. I then provided them screenshots that it's still in the "not started" section and still refuse to process my full refund. I've never once used this service. I could understand if there were all these titles in this, but it's one book that was never even started.
Audible has not allowed me to return books online. I always must call customer service which is a bit of a hassle. I have many credits and downloaded many books over time. Some I listened to & in others I was no longer interested. I returned a number of audible books at once to avoid having to make multiple customer service calls. Today I get a warning saying " This continued rate of returns may cause you to lose access to making returns in the future. "Per our policy, Audible reserves the right to limit the number of returns, and the loss of return privileges if we determine returns to be in abuse of policy." I can not believe this absolutely irrational policy given they have allotted me so many credits. Buyer beware. I will call them to disc this policy.
Not sure why I need a separate app to download an audio book - but I do according to this service and guess what? It doesn't run on my machine. It just constantly tells me to close Google Chrome. When I do, it just exits without any user feedback - bad design. The book samples won't play in Google Chrome on the Amazon website. The audible website just crashes when I click on the book to listen to it - or a pop up window opens and after about 2 minutes of "buffering" says "An error occurred during processing. Please close this window and try again later". Bad engineering, bad programming, bad UI/UX - sucks that Amazon coerced me into trying a free month. Cancelling right now and not recommending this garbage to anyone.
I strongly disagree with a one point whatever rating on audible I give it 5 solid stars! Education wise I'd say it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm and over the road truck driver and for the past 6 years I have been learning everyday all day at least when I'm on the road. It's worth every penny and the compounded interest on that investment is priceless! I will say I buy it on annual membership and I renew it annually as well so I don't know about the month to month billing issues that have been mentioned. If you don't get help at audible... please get help somewhere.;-)
Audible pushes their subscription plans heavily. It seems great but the small print will eat you. The "Great Listen" guarantee is all well and good, unless you are a subscriber, if you have a monthly or annual plan, please don't apply. So much for loyalty!
I was extremely impressed with the refund process that I experienced with this company. I had enrolled in the 30 day free trial, but then noticed when money was being withdrawn from my account per month after about 5 months. I called them to resolve the issue and cancel the membership, and they assisted me without any hassle. I was fully refunded and my membership cancelled. If you read a lot of books or travel often, I recommend signing up with audible.
The gift subscription is a joke. If the recipient has ever been a member, they don't actually receive the full gift. Either credits or the subscription, but not both. It's poor advertising and keeping this detail in small wording below the selections is a shady practice. Thanks, Audible - you have lost my business.
Double charged my account and even after they acknowledged that the money was withdrawn by Audible have not refunded it. Steer clear of them!
See also Alison M. Review as they clearly have done this to other customers.
Within minutes not only do they charge you for the 14.95 they also take $1.00 out of your account. You can request the 14.95 back but this is still there. Said it would be 2-3 working days. I'll NEVER GO THROUGH them again. I want someone up, front and honest.
I've been an audible member for years and 3 months ago I changed my membership plan to "not enrolled" because I don't wish to pay for a monthly credit. Guess what happened? They still keep billing me every month. I've also read other complaints about this scam company Audible and everyone is in the same boat. Someone need to take legal action against Audible.
I searched through the science section, but most books were self-help or books on how to grow your own magic mushrooms. However, by far the worst is the overwhelming number of creationist literature included under science. How can I trust the rest of the books to be of good quality if Audible includes pseudoscience literature of such dubious origin? The history selection is slightly better, but I am already hesitant to trust the selection since Audible has shown that they employ such poor vetting standards. I can't believe that in this day and age, they feature so many books preaching that evolution does not exist and that genetics supports creationist theories. This is laughable. Worst, this discredits Audible as a source of quality literature.
In reviewing my bank account I happened to see this charge and after contacting Audible.com the rep. Agreed to refund back the full 3 months I had been charged for no services! This resulted from some free trial that I was not even aware of signing up for. It was bundled with another online audio purchase. Ugh.
This is such a scummy business practice!
I spent 7 hours trying to work with Audible customer service; they were very unhelpful. They would not authorize my credit card, which works perfectly fine. I tried creating three accounts/re-entered two different credit cards ten times in attempts to download this one book. It was the worst experience of my life.
I have contacted them a 100 times to cancel my services, each time I am told the service has been cancelled and refunded. Nothing. Nada. The moment I attempted to buy a new book for listed price as a consumer - the subscription begins again. Would you believe this goes back to 2016... and here I am just got another charge on May 2019!
I just hung up after a new customer service supervisor Andrey B at their Costa Rica customer service center has agreed to refund me $456.02... going back to 2016. Let's see if that will happen. Plus I have deleted all my credit cards with Audible... hoping no more charges ever come thru again!
I had never signed up for an Audible account nor used or downloaded anything. However I just noticed when looking through my statements that I have been being charged for 12 months to be on their "gold membership program" ridiculous!
Got this as a gift, got some books, I put together a library which vanished without explanation. The help line is useless, lots of jargon which does not match anything on my device, followed by more different rubbish fixes by email, they then require you to phone at goodness knows what cost to offer more fixes. Looks like the old phone help line scam of years back costing hundreds while they keep you talking.
I wish I had read the reviews before accepting this 'gift'. It really is looking a bit of a scam, Amazon really needs to take this in hand and either fix or dump. One month to go, I cannot wait to cancel. Think carefully and read the reviews before any involvement with these people.
I tried their Free Trial through Amazon.com, and found their recorded books were unplayable on my MP3 player, despite the fact that they claim they are compatible, and my MP3 came pre-programmed with Audible software. Tech support was useless - all they wanted to do was remote-access my computer. They can't even resolve a simple play-back issue and I'm supposed to give them access to my entire computer system? Seriously?
And to add insult to injury, they either gave or sold my email address to other companies. I know it was Audible because I have my own domain and I assign different email addresses to each company I deal with. I just got 37 new pieces of spam today alone. If that's not illegal, it should be...
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and bought a new car which, much to my great annoyance, does not have a CD player, nor anyway of adding one without removing the onboard computer thing. So I finally bought 4 books from Audible. I followed everything that it told me to do, I ended up downloading an App and the software 3 times but I simply could not get the damned books onto my iTunes. I started a chat session and my god were they slow, badly trained or just thick? I tried the chat twice, each time it was painfully stupid.
For anyone who drives a lot and wishes to avoid radio drivel, who has poor or fading eyesight, for reading options on aircraft or lying on a beach I enjoy Audible which is now my constant source of entertainment. Indeed I am in danger of becoming well read as the non fiction has some wonderful books which I would not otherwise buy.
I have not had any of the problems complained of in this Blog - though it is too easy to be signed up to two accounts if you do not read the information pages carefully. Keep the titles coming - it is a quite excellent service.
The up side: discount prices, good selection and the chance to exchange a book you don't like for another.
The downside: twice my membership has simply stopped. The first time this happened I got it reinstated after 20 minutes with their customer rep -- and a free book. Can't complain.
And then it happened again the following month.
At this point I won't sign up again. If their website is so flaky it's ejecting paying customers... Well, I can see trouble coming for someone. But it's not going to be me.
